Diana Kruger walks us through her past fashion from the National Treasure premiere to multiple Met Gala showstoppers.
Transcript
00:00Hi Who Would Wear? I'm Diane Kruger and I'm going to take a walk down memory lane of fashion with you.
00:07My fashion. Crazy, good, bad. This is Would You Wear It Now?
00:14Oh wow, this is definitely memory lane.
00:18Okay, so I'm seeing the posters of National Treasure in the back, so I'm assuming that's what it was for.
00:23I gotta be honest, I have no clue what I'm wearing. I want to say it's Long Van, but I might be completely wrong.
00:28But I still like it. I don't own it, but I would wear it again for sure.
00:33I feel like the shoes kind of don't really go with it.
00:36You know, this picture will haunt me, this outfit will haunt me until the day I die.
00:40I don't know what possessed me to put it on. It's the golden globes and I'm wearing a genie outfit.
00:45So this will go down for me as my personal worst.
00:51I don't know what could get worse, the hair with that outfit,
00:54the occasion, the wrong dressing for the occasion, the weird gold bracelets that just emphasize the genie out of a bottle look.
01:02It's just all around bad.
01:05I felt great when I wore it.
01:07I was presenting too, so definitely everybody saw it.
01:11But, you know, it's Marquesa and I love Georgina and Karen.
01:17And this was kind of like the first collection and I really love putting it on.
01:21I just, like, in hindsight, you know, that's definitely, yeah.
01:26I wonder if the bells were ringing too on the top part as I was walking.
01:30That could have been a nice touch, but I don't remember.
01:32Needless to say, this is a definite no other than Halloween.
01:36Well, clearly nobody's styled this.
01:40This is like some paparazzi shot coming out of Charles de Gaulle in France, arriving in France,
01:47which I'm not sure where I'm going, but this is definitely my clothes.
01:52Although I do have very fancy Chanel carry-on, but the rest is pretty much day-to-day Diana.
01:58I mean, I probably would wear it again.
02:00I mean, maybe not those shoes, but, I mean, you know, who doesn't wear a white t-shirt and shorts, right?
02:07So this outfit is the first time I met my friend Jason Wu, I think.
02:14That was his first collection, his second collection.
02:17And it's the CFDA Awards in New York, and we went together.
02:21I don't think I used a stylist at this because I feel like he put it together for me.
02:25And that was his date, so that was that.
02:29And I just remember having a really great evening.
02:34That dress was very, very short, and sitting down was definitely an R-rated experience.
02:41I love that dress, and I kept it for many years, actually.
02:45All right.
02:45Ah, yes.
02:48So this is at the Cannes Film Festival, and it's a gold sequin Calvin Klein number that Francisco Costa at the time custom-made for me.
03:00Yeah, I absolutely love it.
03:01I think at the time I was the face of their perfume called Beauty, and this was a piece of beauty.
03:07And I still, I really love this dress, and I think I got to keep it, if I remember correctly.
03:12And, you know, it felt like liquid gold.
03:14It was pretty awesome.
03:16I know, I would definitely wear that now.
03:17Yes.
03:18It's gorgeous.
03:19All right.
03:20This, yeah, this is a real classic for me.
03:23I love this dress.
03:24It was denim Chanel, and I wore it to a Chanel Haute Couture show.
03:29I have that hat, and I've had the same hat or variations of it for pretty much since I was, like, 16 years old.
03:35I did my own hair that morning because I remember there was a party for Chanel the night before, and I remember being very hungover, and I didn't want to, I didn't have, like, the patience to do my hair properly.
03:49So a hat is always a good way to pretend like it didn't happen.
03:55Yeah, that's pretty much what this picture is all about.
03:57I was very comfortable, and I love the exaggerated hips, and definitely would buy that again.
04:02Yeah.
04:03Oh, all right.
04:04So this is on a book tour, I guess, for the host that I played the villain at.
04:10To be honest, I think it's my personal clothes, but I don't remember the individual designers other than those shoes, which I know are Alaya.
04:20The rest, I truly, I don't remember, but this was, like, you know, at a bookstore somewhere in Los Angeles signing autographs.
04:28It felt appropriate.
04:30I would wear it again.
04:31Yes.
04:32Okay, so this one is the Met Ball, um, I'm not sure what year.
04:37It's Chanel Haute Couture, and I do love this outfit.
04:40I felt so comfortable because usually you're in these huge gowns going to the Met, and people sit on your train, and it's not fun to go to the bathroom and all those things.
04:49So this felt like a dream.
04:50I felt really cool and very, I don't know, very, uh, fun for the occasion to dress differently, and so I really love this outfit, and I would definitely buy that again.
05:01This is promoting a French film that came out, um, a couple years ago, and it's a Valentino, and I really love this outfit.
05:08It's a little out of my comfort zone for me, you know, it's kind of wild, and the patterns, and I personally usually tend to stick to more muted colors and, uh, or shapes.
05:19I don't know, it felt very appropriate at the time, and I really love it, I have to say, I still do, so I would definitely wear that one again.
05:26Again, the Met Ball, I want to say two, three years ago, maybe even more, because I remember I was pregnant, and nobody knew.
05:36I was, like, three months along, and, um, I was very, very morning sick, and my feet were killing me from being pregnant and wearing heels,
05:45and I remember not being able to drink all night, which made the evening even longer, you know, when you're not feeling well,
05:52but that dress was a labor of love, and it's Prabhal Gurung.
05:57We really designed it together.
05:58He came up with the shape, but all the embroideries, the train, uh, it had a detachable train, heavenly bodies.
06:05This was heavenly bodies, and hence the embroidery and the color, and, um, the netting felt very appropriate.
06:14I did my own makeup, too, at this, you can't see much of my face, but I did.
06:18It was very pretty in real life, so, yes.
06:21Uh, well, so this was very recent.
06:23It's my friend Jason Wu, who designed this.
06:25It's very romantic for me, but it was for opening night of the New York City Ballet, which I felt was very appropriate.
06:31And I love the color, because I, you know, it's the first time in two years that we were able to go back and see a live performance in person,
06:40and it felt very optimistic and romantic, which is kind of how I felt, and I was very overwhelmed to see the ballet,
06:47and just being in the company of people again, and all those beautiful things.
06:52So, I really have, uh, not only great memories of that night, but great memories of that dress.
06:57I would definitely wear that again.
07:01Only because I think this is very me, you know, it's probably the look that I find myself, uh, be the most comfortable in,
07:12and how I would like to dress every day, even though it doesn't happen.
07:16Um, but, you know, cool flats, it's practical, it's flirty, and it's feminine, um, you know, and you do catch me in that hat pretty much every day, so.
07:26Mm-hm.
07:26Mm-hm.
07:33Okay.
07:34Okay.
07:38Mm-hm.
