00:00Moored on the River Thames near Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast is one of the most significant
00:06surviving warships of the 20th century. Launched in 1938, this Royal Navy light cruiser played
00:13a key role during World War II, including escorting Arctic convoys to the Soviet Union
00:20and bombarding German positions during the D-Day landings in 1944.
00:27After the war, she served in the Korean War before being decommissioned in 1963, and then
00:32in 1971, HMS Belfast was saved from scrapping and opened to the public as a museum ship,
00:39now operated by the Imperial War Museums. Today, visitors can explore nine decks filled
00:45with original rooms, interactive exhibits and stories from the 950 men who once lived and
00:51served aboard.
