During a Senate Republican press briefing on Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) was asked about the military parade taking place on President Trump’s birthday and the idea to rebuild Alcatraz.

00:00You have raised concerns about cuts, spending, too much spending, so it's
00:08appropriate for Trump to be calling for a military parade and also rebuilding Alcatraz,
00:13both of which would be extremely expensive.
00:16Well, I mean, I think that it sounds to me like the military parade is something we may have.
00:20It's the 250th anniversary birthday, if you will, of the Army.
00:25And I think it's something that obviously our country probably will enjoy,
00:30celebrating the heritage and history that we have of our Army
00:35and how we become leaders of our national security.
00:38So I think that's something that sounds like the leader already works.
00:41The other proposal Alcatraz could know about.
00:44We haven't seen any formal proposals in long now.
00:46The President has made suggestions about it.
00:48So we'll look at all of these proposals that come out of the White House as they come out, too.
00:54We'll be able to see them individually.
