00:00Mr. Castle, be advised, if you get injured following Detective Beckett to research your
00:25next novel, you cannot sue the city.
00:27If you get shot, you cannot sue the city.
00:30If you get killed, my lifeless remains cannot sue the city.
00:33Your heirs, Mr. Castle.
00:35Do I have to wait for him to sign or can I shoot him now?
00:37Mr. Castle, these waivers are serious business.
00:40Perhaps you'd feel more comfortable by referring the matter to your attorney?
00:44What, are you kidding?
00:45You'd never let me sign these.
00:47But fortunately, it's his job to get me out of trouble and not to prevent me from getting into it.
00:52Beckett?
00:54Yeah.
00:55Where?
00:56All right, I'm on my way.
00:57Wait, where are you going?
00:59I have work to do.
01:00What, we have a case?
01:01No, I have a case.
01:02You have paperwork.
01:07So?
01:08Mrs. Rosenberg, 9E here.
01:10Comes down to put her clothes in the dryer.
01:12Finds us occupied.
01:14Comes down a half an hour later and she's had enough.
01:16Decides to take matters into her own hands.
01:18Come on, you're telling me that an old lady killed someone over a busy dryer?
01:22What?
01:22No, she's just tired of waiting around.
01:25So, she opens up the dryer, take the other person's clothes out, finds Miss Fluffenfold here instead.
01:34Well, if that's not a cautionary tale about poking around someone else's laundry, I don't know what is.
01:38Dude, there is an etiquette involved.
01:40If the clothes are dry, Mrs. Rosenberg had every right to put them in the basket.
01:43Now if you're going to tell me she folded them, then it gets a little creepy.
01:46I'm sorry, someone starts rooting around my underwear without an invitation.
01:50I'm taking that as a serious breach of hygiene.
01:52I thought you went commando, Esposito.
01:55Oh.
01:55Seasonal thing.
01:57Alright, let's get her out of there with some dignity.
01:59I'm going to need CSU to come down here and the bleach bottle will have to go down in the lab
02:02and probably print some photographs, although I don't know if it's going to do as much good in the public area.
02:07I'm guessing she lived here?
02:09Worked.
02:1012F.
02:11She's the nanny.
02:12I thought you ditched me back at the precinct, didn't you?
02:20Come on, Danny McDead is found on the spin dryer.
02:22You don't think the captain's going to let me in on that story?
02:26You're right, Castle.
02:27My bad.
02:37Exactly how much longer do I have to expect you to be shadowing me on my cases like this?
02:40Hard to say. When I'm writing a new character, there's no telling when inspiration might strike.
02:44I thought I was your inspiration.
02:45Oh, you are, Detective, and in so many ways.
02:49Yeah, well, your inspiration might strike you sooner than you think.
02:53Nanny's name was Sarah Manning. She worked for the Petersons for about two years.
02:57Doorman is a huge fan of my work.
03:01Mrs. Peterson?
03:02Detective Kate Beckett, NYPD.
03:04I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about Sarah Manning.
03:07Of course.
03:08Please, come in.
03:09Richard Castle, just NY.
03:20Sweetie, Mommy and Daddy need to talk to some people, but we'll be right out here.
03:26We still haven't told them what happened. We just don't know how.
03:30Sarah was very close with him. She just had a gift with kids, you know?
03:35She was such a lovely girl.
03:36I'm very sorry.
03:37The school called me at my office when Sarah didn't come to pick up Justin.
03:41I tried her cell phone, but it went straight to voicemail.
03:44Then I tried here, but the machine picked up, so I hopped in the cab and went to the school.
03:50When we got home, the police were already here.
03:52When was the last time you saw Sarah?
03:54My husband saw her last night when he got home.
03:58We take Justin to school every morning, so we're usually gone by the time she gets here.
04:04And what time is that?
04:05Today it would have been 11.
04:07Sarah straightens up, does Justin's laundry, and then picks him up from school about 2.
04:13One of us is then home for dinner.
04:16Last night it was my husband's turn.
04:17So then you were the last one to see Sarah?
04:21I guess so.
04:22Did she mention any problems she was having?
04:24Maybe a boyfriend?
04:26Sarah's boyfriend?
04:28The doorman said the police told them that it was a break-in, which usually means a stranger to that.
04:33We can't be sure what happened.
04:34Well, maybe not, but statistically speaking, much greater likelihood that it was someone she knew.
04:39Oh, my God.
04:40Again, we can't be certain who was involved.
04:43But she had a boyfriend.
04:45Brent.
04:46But they broke up.
04:47And when was that?
04:48About a month ago, but Sarah never said there was any trouble or anything like that.
04:51Brent, that was his name?
04:53Yes.
04:55Do you know his last name?
04:56Uh, I don't think Sarah ever mentioned it.
04:58Not to me either.
05:01Thank you both so much for your time.
05:03Of course.
05:05Castle, let's go.
05:07Well, that's it?
05:07That's it.
05:09Oh, do you know of any way I can reach Sarah's parents?
05:12Oh, God, I hadn't even thought of that.
05:16I'm sorry, we don't have their number.
05:18They live in Atlanta.
05:19She was with them over Christmas.
05:20What about Sarah's things?
05:23There's her bag and her jacket.
05:24Maybe I could take it and check her cell phone?
05:28Why couldn't we stick around?
05:29I had a lot more questions.
05:30Because I actually like to investigate things myself first.
05:33Besides, neither of them is going anywhere.
05:35Oh, there's no cell phone in here.
05:37Maybe it's in the laundry room.
05:38Or in the dryer.
05:39Well, if it is, CSU will find it.
05:43She's still got her Georgia license.
05:45Are you really the one who has to call her parents?
05:48Easier to write about than to live through Hot Castle.
05:50Three men huddled around a computer that better not be porn, and if it is, I want in.
06:00Esposito and Ryan put security tape from the elevator in the rear entrance.
06:03Front door is a 24-hour doorman.
06:04This is the elevator's cam.
06:07Our victim gets on the elevator with a laundry basket, takes it down to the basement to put
06:12the kid's laundry into the washer.
06:14A few minutes later, gets back on, goes all the way back up to the apartment.
06:18Then, about 40 minutes later, rides the elevator back down to the basement again.
06:22We figured probably to take the kid's clothes out of the washer and put them in the dryer.
06:25The camera never picks it up again.
06:26The only other person to ride the elevator down all the way to the basement during the
06:30next hour was the old lady found the body.
06:33So whoever attacked her must have used the stairwell.
06:35Otherwise, the cam would have caught him.
06:37Yeah, three maintenance workers on duty that day will run their names tonight.
06:41Why only run the workers' names?
06:42Why not run all the neighbors' names?
06:44What are you basing that on?
06:46I'm basing that on the neighbor would make a better story.
06:50No, come on.
06:51What do any of us know about our neighbors in this city?
06:54You think the guy living next door to the son of Sam knew he was living next door to
06:57the son of Sam?
06:58He's right.
06:58Neighbors in Berkowitz's building had no idea he was a son of Sam killer.
07:02What about the guy in 8B?
07:03Who?
07:058B.
07:06Quiet guy.
07:07You see him every day, only you never notice him.
07:10Well, he knows Sarah.
07:12He's young.
07:13Beautiful.
07:14Kind of girl the guy like him would never have a chance with.
07:16We have no girls like that, don't we?
07:20Well, first it's just a game.
07:22Figure out her schedule.
07:23When does she do her laundry?
07:25When is she alone?
07:28Until it becomes something more.
07:30Something that he can't control.
07:33Well, he uses the stairs, obviously, to avoid the elevator's cameras.
07:37And then he just waits.
07:39Concealed in the shadows.
07:41When she comes into that laundry room, he bounces.
07:46And he looked into her vacant, lifeless eyes.
07:49He wanted to tell her.
07:51He never meant to kill her.
07:52All he ever wanted was to be noticed.
07:57That's when he felt the heat of that dryer on his skin.
07:59So, he picks up her limp body in his arms.
08:05Gently places it inside.
08:07He almost smiled at his good fortune when he found the quarter in his pocket.
08:13Slipping it into the slot.
08:15Buying the time to do what he does best.
08:18Disappear.
08:21Disappear.
08:22Disappear.
08:28Just saying.
08:28Better story.
08:29Coffee?
08:32Let's see what we can find out about those neighbors.
08:35And someone better tell me who the hell lives in 8B.
08:37Let me guess.
08:43Grand cooked.
08:43Chicken masala.
08:45Where is Hurricane Martha?
08:47In her room.
08:48Taking a dramatic pause.
08:50Leaving the mess for everyone else to clean up as usual.
08:52I don't mind.
08:53Dinner was fun.
08:54Well, it's our room.
08:55Not hers.
08:57Just remember, even despite that hideous bedspers you bought.
09:01If you're hungry, there are lots of leftovers.
09:03Oh, thank you.
09:03I grabbed a slice on the way home.
09:05You really are turning into a cop.
09:07Yeah?
09:08Do you think?
09:10So, who got killed today?
09:12The nanny.
09:14Do they know who did it?
09:15Well, apparently, in an actual homicide, they don't know who did it until after the guy gets caught.
09:19How come we never had a nanny?
09:21Well, your mother and I decided if someone was going to screw you up, we wanted it to be me.
09:26Only, you managed to turn up fine somehow anyway.
09:29Surprisingly.
09:29Is that the prodigal son I hear return from working the night shift?
09:36You catch any perps today, kiddo?
09:38I did an NYPD Blue once, remember?
09:40You were the crazy homeless woman.
09:42And some might say still are.
09:44I was just asking Dad how come we never had a nanny when I was little.
09:48I spared her any stories of my own personal experience.
09:51I had a real job as a working actress.
09:53You know, not everybody can sit at home in front of a laptop and claim to be employed.
09:58Really?
09:59You had a nanny?
10:01Yeah.
10:02Only we didn't call them nannies then.
10:03What were they called?
10:04Oh, I don't know.
10:05Um, alcoholics?
10:08Raving lunatics?
10:08No, no, no.
10:09Wait, uh, completely irresponsible middle-aged women who, instead of looking after me while
10:13you were acting like they were supposed to, instead watched daytime television.
10:16Oh, stop your whining.
10:17You didn't turn out half bad.
10:18And don't forget, the good half are my genes.
10:21Well, that's just something we'll have to take your word for, isn't it?
10:23But I'm not asking for an apology, Mother.
10:25Actually, I got the plot of my first novel by watching One Life to Live.
10:29There you go.
10:30Ah.
10:32Detective Beckett, did you miss me already?
10:33Which means I am one quarter responsible for your success as well.
10:37Really?
10:37Do they do those at night?
10:39No, for sure.
10:40I'm just, I'm just touched that you thought of me.
10:43Oh, order to call me.
10:45I see.
10:46Well, either way, I, uh, can leave right away.
10:48Okay.
10:48Gotta go, I would say.
10:51Don't wait up.
10:52She'll be asleep by 11.
10:5310.30.
10:54It's a school night.
10:55Are you sure she's got either one of our genes?
10:57Oh, well.
10:58You will help her with the dishes.
11:00All right.
11:00Be careful, flat foot.
11:05Here, put these on.
11:08Really?
11:08I thought cops just stood around the body eating ham sandwiches, cracking jokes.
11:14You know, hardcore gallows, you know.
11:18The head trauma definitely contributed to the death.
11:22The force of the blows resulted in significant cerebral hemorrhaging.
11:28Mr. Castle, nice to see you again.
11:30Wish I could say the same, but my glasses are all scratchy.
11:33How long did I let you replace these?
11:34Not everybody has your budget, Castle.
11:36So what killed her?
11:37I'd say she was struck in the head with a bleach bottle,
11:40then fell forward, hit her temple on the edge of the table.
11:44That caused temporal bleeding.
11:45Without medical attention, she didn't stand a chance.
11:48But what I thought she might find really interesting
11:50is the fact that she had sex within the hours before her death.
11:55Sex?
11:56I'll explain how that works later.
11:58Might even been within a few minutes of the murder.
12:00The heat from the dryer makes it hard to pinpoint.
12:02So you're saying she was raped?
12:03Hard to determine.
12:04There were no vaginal lacerations or presence of any semen.
12:07So what's the evidence of sex?
12:09Traces of spermicide.
12:11The guy wore a condom.
12:12Boy, it really has been a long time for you, hasn't it?
12:14I mean, it could have been a rape, but my best guess is...
12:19She knew the guy.
12:19Without evidence of trauma, I'm not ready to buy our attacker as a sexual predator.
12:35Especially with him using a condom.
12:38Could be he's trying to hide DNA.
12:40Dude, someone smart enough to hide DNA would have been smart enough not to have sex in the laundry room.
12:44No, you're missing the point.
12:45The laundry room afforded opportunity.
12:48It wasn't an accident she was killed there.
12:49Esposito, where are we on her cell phone?
12:51I pulled her records.
12:53Had a service provider ping it.
12:55Triangulation puts it at or near the building.
12:57Yeah, well, maybe he took it so she couldn't call for help and dumped it somewhere close by.
13:00What about her ex-boyfriend?
13:01We had a first name, Brent.
13:02But if we had her cell phone, he might be in the address book.
13:04What about these calls?
13:05What calls?
13:06Last two months, there's dozens of incoming calls from the same number.
13:09Right, we're still running that down, but the numbers are prepaid.
13:12Besides, those calls stopped coming a couple weeks before she was killed.
13:14Yeah, but the outgoing calls to that number stopped even before that.
13:17Whoever it was, she didn't want to talk to them.
13:22She was letting her go to voicemail.
13:23Find this kid, Brent, and bring him in for questioning.
13:25You're here by invitation only.
13:31Got it?
13:32Got it.
13:33Good.
13:34Brent Johnson?
13:35Yeah.
13:36I'm Detective Kate Beckett.
13:37This is Mr. Castle.
13:39I suppose you know why you're here?
13:41I'm the cops that picked me up at my job, said you had some questions about what happened to Sarah.
13:46I understand that the two of you were dating?
13:48Yeah.
13:49Until about a month ago.
13:50A month ago.
13:51What happened then?
13:52Nothing.
13:54We broke up.
13:55Whose idea was that?
13:56It was a mutual thing, I guess.
13:59A mutual thing.
14:04Hey, Sarah, it's me.
14:05Look, just call me back, okay?
14:07You can't just not call me back, Sarah.
14:09Don't be a bitch.
14:11Come on, Sarah, I just want to talk to you.
14:12Look, I don't know why you can't just tell me who this other guy is.
14:15You know what?
14:16You're just a little slut.
14:20There's plenty more of those.
14:21Yep, they make Alec Baldwin's messages sound like rainbows and unicorns.
14:25How did you get those?
14:26From your service provider.
14:27A little advice.
14:29When you buy a prepaid phone, don't use your credit card.
14:31Makes you totally traceable.
14:32I wasn't trying to hide anything.
14:34No?
14:36Then why did you just lie to me?
14:39Because no man likes getting dumped.
14:41Am I right?
14:42Our egos can't handle it.
14:43This one time I had this ex-girlfriend, she lost me.
14:45I drank every meal for a week.
14:48I didn't even like her.
14:48If I had loved her, wow.
14:50I don't know what I would have done.
14:54No, no.
14:55No way.
14:56It wasn't like that.
14:57Oh, no.
14:57So then how did you find out about Sarah if you two broke up a month ago?
15:01From a friend.
15:02Chloe.
15:03Chloe Richardson.
15:04All right?
15:05We all went to college together.
15:06Chloe's the one who got Sarah her job.
15:07And how did this friend find out?
15:09Chloe nannies for another family in the building.
15:11The two of them are pretty close.
15:13So then where were you the day that Sarah got killed?
15:16I was where those other cops found me, at my job.
15:18Look, we have video cameras there and a sign-in sheet.
15:23Look, I didn't have anything to do with this.
15:26Am I under arrest or something?
15:29No.
15:31You can go.
15:32But just don't leave town until we speak again.
15:36Do you understand?
15:36Yeah.
15:39Yes, ma'am.
15:47Don't leave town.
15:48Don't you need probable cause for something like that?
15:50Only he doesn't know that, does he?
15:53You can lie like that?
15:55That is so cool.
15:57Castle?
16:02Dorman told Escozito that this is the playground that all the nannies from the building go to.
16:06So hopefully we find Chloe here.
16:08That brings me back a bit.
16:09A bit?
16:10I'm thinking it's a little more than that, Castle.
16:12I'm not talking about when I was a kid.
16:13I'm talking about when I used to take my daughter to the park.
16:15You used to take your daughter to the park?
16:17Spring, summer, fall.
16:18We were here every day.
16:19Alexis' mom was doing community theater.
16:21She was on the road a lot, so I had custody.
16:23What?
16:24I don't think I just never figured you for Mr. Mom.
16:27Some of the best days of my life.
16:29That's actually kind of nice.
16:30Yeah.
16:31Tell me about it.
16:32Do you know how many lonely single mothers there are in a Manhattan playground?
16:35There I was.
16:36Between marriages.
16:37Exactly how many times have you been married, Castle?
16:40Twice.
16:40That's it?
16:41Isn't that enough?
16:43How about you?
16:44Me?
16:44No.
16:45Never been.
16:45Really?
16:46Yep.
16:47You'd be good at it.
16:48You're both controlling and disapproving.
16:50You should really try it.
16:51I'm not an if-at-first-you-don't-succeed kind of a girl, Castle.
16:54When it comes to marriage, I'm more of a one-and-done type.
16:57Hmm.
16:58Any serious candidates?
16:59Becca!
17:00Becca, don't wander away.
17:03Becca!
17:03Dorman said she'd have a red vest on.
17:06That might be our girl.
17:07Okay.
17:08Go, go, go.
17:09Chloe?
17:11I'm Detective Beckett.
17:13I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about Sarah Manning.
17:17Um, right-right now?
17:20Yeah, it won't take long.
17:23Yeah, uh, Maggie, can you watch Becca for a sec?
17:26Sarah's boyfriend told us that you helped her get her job.
17:31Uh, you talked to Bert?
17:32Mm-hmm.
17:33Yeah, when we got out of school, Sarah couldn't find work.
17:36She was camping all over town.
17:38I nannied for a family in the same building and heard that the Petersons were looking for someone.
17:42When was the last time you saw Sarah?
17:44I know what it feels like to lose somebody, Chloe, but we need to ask you these questions.
17:53Um, sometimes we meet up before work, get a coffee in Columbus, and then walk over to work together.
18:01Did you get coffee that day?
18:03Yeah.
18:04Did she say anything to you?
18:06Did she seem upset?
18:09Or?
18:10Upset?
18:10Upset about what?
18:11Brett gave us the impression that Sarah was seeing someone else.
18:15You know who it was, don't you?
18:18Um.
18:22Sometimes Sarah would stay late.
18:25Stay late where? At the Petersons?
18:27Yeah, we got off work around the same time, so we'd take the train home together.
18:30I live with a roommate a couple blocks from Sarah.
18:33In the last few months, she'd been staying late.
18:37Mr. and Mrs. Petersons kind of take turns coming home for dinner, you know?
18:41Yeah, Mrs. Petersons told us.
18:45God, I don't want to say something, and then...
18:49I mean, he's married.
18:53Wait a minute, Sarah told you about him?
18:55No, no, not exactly.
18:57It's just...
18:58The nights Mrs. Petersons didn't come home for dinner...
19:03Those were the only nights Sarah stayed late.
19:05I told you we should have asked the husband more questions that day.
19:15And I told you that I like to question my most likely suspects after I know more about them.
19:19That way they're tied to more specific answers.
19:22You suspected him, too.
19:23The husband?
19:24Duh.
19:25You would really clean up at my poker game.
19:27Right, you, James Patterson, and the rest of the Times bestseller list?
19:30No thank you, Castle. A little too rich for my blood.
19:32You could always make a strip poker.
19:33Sorry, but I prefer mystery to horror.
19:35No, yeah, I'm in this space right now, but like I told you guys, I'm going to need at least 20,000 square feet.
19:41I...
19:41Listen, I'm going to give you guys a call back.
19:45I'll let you know if the client is interested, okay?
19:47Hi. Remember us?
19:51When was the last time you saw Sarah, Mr. Petersons?
19:54The night before she was killed. I told you that.
19:55Which was your night to be home for dinner, right?
19:57Right.
19:58Why are you asking?
20:00Well, Mr. Petersons...
20:01We have information that suggests that Sarah Manning was having a relationship.
20:06Right. She had a boyfriend.
20:08Someone else.
20:09Someone else? Who?
20:12Me?
20:13You think I was having an affair with Sarah?
20:15Bingo.
20:16That is...
20:17That's crazy.
20:18Is it?
20:18We know that she stayed late some nights.
20:20Right.
20:21She helped us make dinner.
20:23Us?
20:24Well, what we heard was that she helped on the nights that your wife wasn't home.
20:31First of all, it's not what you think.
20:33When is it ever?
20:36And yes, I was having an affair.
20:39So what happened?
20:40What do you mean, what happened? I cheated.
20:42I strayed. Whatever you want to call it.
20:44I mean, in the laundry room.
20:48What?
20:48You just said that you...
20:49Yes, I was having an affair, but it wasn't with Sarah, for God's sakes.
20:53It was with another woman in my office.
20:55Look, every night that I was supposed to be home having dinner, I wasn't.
20:58You can check the landlines from the apartment.
21:00I called to make sure that Sarah was okay every night.
21:03You can check cell phone records, right?
21:10Don't leave town.
21:11Hey, what happened with the husband?
21:18Oh, he was cheating.
21:19Just not with our victim.
21:20Here, I need you to run it down.
21:22This is her name.
21:23I'm telling you, true commitment's a thing of the past.
21:26I mean, name one happily married couple.
21:28DeGeneres and DeRossi.
21:30Oh, I think he got you there, bro.
21:31What is this, the view?
21:32Where are we on the boyfriend?
21:33The story checks out.
21:34A video and a sign-in sheet.
21:36Great.
21:37So now all we have is a cheating husband with a possible alibi
21:39and no cell phone to run the perp's fingerprints.
21:41I got something better.
21:43Please tell me it's that the mayor wants him out of here.
21:45You ever notice how she gets a little grumpy when she doesn't have a suspect?
21:48We got one now.
21:49Guess who wasn't where they say the word the day Sarah Manning was killed?
21:53Who?
21:54Come on, you gotta guess.
21:55Ryan?
21:56Ryan?
21:57I'm not guessing.
22:00Eric killed you, you know that?
22:02Exactly what I've been telling you.
22:04No way.
22:05Pretty good, huh?
22:07Told you you should have guessed.
22:16You weren't at the office the day Sarah Manning was killed, were you?
22:19You lied to me, Mrs. Peterson.
22:21Detective Ryan checked with your son's school.
22:23The day they called about Sarah not showing up,
22:25your assistant said that you were unreachable.
22:28What are you talking about?
22:30We're talking about Sarah Manning, Mrs. Peterson.
22:31We're talking about why you lied about where you were the day she was killed.
22:35And we know you weren't in your office.
22:37It would have been easy to sneak into the building.
22:39The door man could have been outside handing a cab, taking the delivery.
22:41Oh, wait.
22:44My husband is having an affair.
22:48Did you know that?
22:50Actually, we did.
22:50All these months, I had no idea.
22:54But then you found out.
22:55Yeah, Sarah told me a few weeks ago.
22:58Sarah told you about the affair?
22:59Yes, and she'd been an absolute wreck about keeping it from me.
23:02Yeah, I bet she was.
23:03Did you know he was paying her extra?
23:06No.
23:07He didn't mention that.
23:08I can imagine putting Sarah in the middle of something like that.
23:10Something like what?
23:11Using Sarah to cover for himself.
23:13I mean, it's disgusting.
23:14I don't understand, Mrs. Peterson.
23:16If you had nothing to do with Sarah's death, then why would you lie?
23:19Because my cheating husband has no idea I'm about to serve him with divorce papers.
23:24I lied because I was at my lawyer's that afternoon.
23:28Howard's not the only one who can keep a secret.
23:30Don't be, you, hello there.
23:47What are you up to?
23:49Nothing.
23:50Oh, you're not webcamming again, I hope.
23:54I burned a DVD from security cameras that the police are looking at, and I've never webcammed.
23:58That's your story, and you're sticking to it, huh?
24:02The police just let you burn a DVD?
24:05You do realize you're going to have to stop stealing evidence, right?
24:08I thought the whole purpose of following this detective around was to help you to write.
24:12That's called research, Mother.
24:13Ah, well, we better hope this last Derek Storm book sells, lover boy, because research don't pay the bills.
24:22Is that the nanny?
24:23Mm-hmm.
24:23Huh. What married woman in her right mind invites a girl that pretty into her own home?
24:30Hey.
24:30Hey.
24:31What are you guys watching?
24:32I'm watching. She's butting in.
24:35The police can't find the nanny's cell phone.
24:37They're hoping to live some fingerprints from it.
24:38I just thought I could see if she had it with her when she went down to the laundry room.
24:42And?
24:43It's in her hand the first time she brings the clothes down to the wash, but then she doesn't have it when she goes down to use the dryer.
24:47So? She probably left it upstairs in the apartment where she worked.
24:52They say they can't find it. Wait a sec.
24:56What?
24:59There's a five-second time difference.
25:01A five-second time difference in what?
25:05She rides the elevator twice to the basement.
25:08The first time to put the clothes in the washer, the second time to put them in the dryer.
25:11Only the second time, the trip takes five seconds longer.
25:14Why would it take her longer to travel the same distance?
25:17It wouldn't.
25:18Not quite sure where you're going with this castle.
25:21Up.
25:23All right, 32 seconds.
25:24It takes 32 seconds to get from the basement to the 12th floor.
25:28Great. I'll alert the media.
25:32Only the second time, it took her 37 seconds.
25:35Why would it take her five extra seconds?
25:37Because the second time she wasn't coming from the 12th floor.
25:40She was coming from the...
25:4215th floor?
25:45This doesn't make any sense.
25:47The Petersons live on 12th.
25:48Yeah, but I bet the guy who wears that condom lives on 15th.
25:51By the way, the whole elevator thing, I just did that because you smell mice.
25:54Castle, you can't just knock on people's doors.
25:56Why not?
25:57Who is it?
25:58Because you're going to freak them out.
26:00Police!
26:00Here's the police?
26:05Uh, she is.
26:07I'm sorry, do you live here alone?
26:09Yeah.
26:10Why do you want to know?
26:11Don't worry about it.
26:12You're not young enough.
26:12Young enough for what?
26:13Do you have sex?
26:15What kind of cops are you saying you are?
26:17He's not a cop.
26:18I'm a cop.
26:19And you're looking for someone to have sex with?
26:23Castle, look.
26:24So sorry to bother you.
26:3077 ain't beyond the realm of possibility, you know?
26:34Pardon me.
26:35Is this little girl Becca?
26:38I'm sorry.
26:39I'm not sure I'm following.
26:40Prior to her murder, we believe that Sarah Manning was coming from this floor.
26:44Well, I don't know anything about that.
26:46I was at work.
26:47Maybe she came up to see Chloe?
26:49Chloe Richards?
26:50She and Sarah were friends, and our kids get together sometimes for playdates.
26:56Hey, babe, what's going on?
26:57I thought you were going out.
26:58It's the police.
27:01Police?
27:01They think Chloe's friend Sarah might have been up here the day she was killed.
27:05Wait, you were home that day, right?
27:07Um, what day was that?
27:09Tuesday.
27:11Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was here.
27:15So did you see Sarah?
27:16I don't think so, no.
27:18You don't think so?
27:19No.
27:22Mind if I use your bathroom?
27:24People never think about that.
27:25Window cops use the bathroom.
27:27It's right there.
27:33So, Tuesday.
27:36Oh, yeah, yeah, let me think a minute.
27:37So, you're saying that you can't say one way or the other?
27:56After Chloe got here to take care of Becca, I went inside to take a nap.
28:00I work most nights.
28:03Condoms.
28:05And what is it that you do, Mr. Harris?
28:07I'm a musician.
28:09Condoms in the bathroom.
28:10So, anyway, it's possible that Sarah was up here.
28:14I just couldn't really say for sure.
28:16You know, maybe you should talk to Chloe about this.
28:19I already have.
28:20And what did she tell you?
28:21She said that she saw Sarah earlier in the day, but she didn't say anything about Sarah being in your apartment.
28:25What else would she be doing up here?
28:35What is that?
28:36That sounds like somebody's cell phone.
28:51Ian!
28:53Who the hell's phone is this?
28:54Why was her phone in your bedroom?
29:04Maybe she dropped it.
29:05I don't know.
29:06You told me you went into the bedroom to take a nap.
29:08How could she go into the room, drop the phone, and you not see her?
29:11She's right.
29:12Doesn't make sense when you think about it.
29:13We're running a test on the condoms we found in your medicine cabinet.
29:17There's something you never want to hear.
29:20If the spermicide's a match, you're facing a murder charge.
29:23Well, I didn't kill Sarah.
29:25But you were sleeping with her.
29:32Look.
29:33We had sex, okay.
29:35But when Sarah left my place, she was fine.
29:38You followed her down in the basement, didn't you?
29:40You followed her in the basement, and then you killed her.
29:42No, I wouldn't hurt Sarah.
29:44You wouldn't hurt her.
29:44You're a merry man sleeping with her in your own bed.
29:47What time did she leave your apartment?
29:49A little before one.
29:51How can you be sure?
29:52Because Chloe gets back from the park with Becca every day around one o'clock to give her her lunch.
29:57And Sarah left maybe ten minutes before Chloe got back.
30:00Look.
30:01You ask Chloe, she will tell you I was there.
30:03There's no way that I could have killed Sarah.
30:05Detective Beckett.
30:06Frank Garrison.
30:07I've been retained to represent Mr. Harris, and I'm directing him not to answer any more of your questions.
30:13Your client can answer my questions here, or he can answer them in front of a grand jury.
30:16If you've got enough to charge him, do it.
30:18Otherwise, he's coming with me.
30:20Let's go, Mr. Harris.
30:26Guess it's a lot tougher when they actually know the rules, huh?
30:37Lab says condoms are a match.
30:38So we can prove they had sex.
30:40Look, if Chloe got home at one o'clock, then there's no way he had time to get down to the basement, kill Sarah, and make it back upstairs.
30:45Maybe we ought to pick Chloe up, see if she backs the story.
30:48We don't have to.
30:50Why not?
30:53Because the elevator cam had a time stamp.
30:55Our suspect says that Sarah left his apartment at about 12.45, and the camera in the elevator puts her on it, headed towards the basement at 12.48.
31:01We think she was murdered maybe ten minutes later.
31:03So what are we looking for?
31:04The nanny who worked for the guy, and we're just trying to check out a story.
31:07He claims she got home at one and that he never left the apartment again.
31:14There she is.
31:1512.54.
31:16Okay, that's six minutes after Sarah Manning got on the elevator.
31:19So I guess Harris was telling the truth.
31:22Wait.
31:23What?
31:23Wait, where's the kid?
31:24Where's what kid?
31:26Becca.
31:28The little girl that Chloe takes care of.
31:30Maybe she left the kid in the playground with one of the other nannies.
31:33Harris said that she came back with his daughter at the same time every day.
31:36What difference does it make?
31:37The difference is that there are no coincidences, not when murder's involved.
31:40Chloe would have known Sarah's schedule, and Chloe would have known that Sarah was in the basement at that time.
31:44Pick her up.
31:48Can I help you?
31:49Does Chloe Richardson live here?
31:51Yes, but she's not here right now.
31:53Where did she go?
31:54Into the city.
31:55Do you mind if I take a look around?
31:57No.
31:58But I'm telling you, she's not here.
32:01She left about an hour ago.
32:04Detective?
32:04That's the family that Chloe works for.
32:08Not exactly the whole family.
32:10She cut the mom out of the picture.
32:12Where in the city did Chloe go?
32:14To their apartment.
32:15She said that they needed her to babysit tonight.
32:17She must have found out that I took Harrison for questioning.
32:19If she talked to his wife, she'd know he'd been released.
32:22And we both know what she does to people she doesn't like.
32:24She's going after Ian Harris.
32:25We better find her before she finds him.
32:27Woo-hoo!
32:28No answer in the apartment when the doorman called upstairs.
32:38Are you sure Chloe's there?
32:40Says Ian Harris is up there, too.
32:41Came home about an hour ago.
32:42Which means Chloe would have been there waiting for him.
32:44All right, we don't have time to wait for emergency services.
32:46We're going to have to go in on our own.
32:47Well, what about him?
32:48He stays here.
32:49Whoa, no, come on, come on.
32:50I already signed my life away.
32:51What more do you want?
32:53Okay, Castle, but it's a company and observe,
32:55not participate and annoy.
32:56Got it?
32:57Participate and annoy is a lot more fun, but all right.
32:58Stay behind us in the hallway and don't move unless I tell you.
33:01Hope to die.
33:03You know what I mean.
33:04It's...
33:04Open door.
33:12I've got to begin to out, guys.
33:14Stack them up.
33:17Police!
33:18New York City Police!
33:19We're here!
33:20We're here!
33:21Mrs. Harris!
33:22In here.
33:23I locked her to the bathroom.
33:25Room all clear.
33:26Check him.
33:27Mrs. Harris, are you okay?
33:29Is your daughter with you?
33:30Yes, we're okay.
33:31He's still alive.
33:32Mrs. Harris, is Chloe there?
33:33No, no, it's just me and Becca.
33:35Apartment's all clear.
33:37Chloe's not here.
33:38You can come out now, Mrs. Harris.
33:43Where's Chloe, Mrs. Harris?
33:44I don't know.
33:45She must have used her key.
33:47I was just giving Becca a bath.
33:48I didn't even know she was here.
33:49That's the doorman from downstairs.
33:52Answer it.
33:54Hello?
33:57I'll tell her.
33:58The doorman says a tenant called.
34:00There's a girl in the laundry room and she's got a knife.
34:08Where's the girl?
34:09She's inside.
34:10Just sitting there.
34:11Esposito, get these people out of here.
34:13Let's go.
34:13Everybody up the stairs.
34:14Come on, let's go.
34:15So what's the plan?
34:17To get everyone out of this life.
34:19Good plan.
34:23You don't go in.
34:25Do you understand?
34:26Yes.
34:27Okay.
34:31Chloe?
34:32Chloe, it's Detective Beckett.
34:34Do you remember me?
34:37Please just go away.
34:39I'm sorry, Chloe, but I can't do that.
34:45Look, Chloe, you're hurt.
34:49Why don't you put the knife away and let me help you?
34:51Why don't you just shoot me?
34:54Hey, look at me.
34:55Look.
34:59No one's going to shoot anyone, okay?
35:05Unless it's you if you take another step inside, Castle.
35:09He was sleeping with Sarah.
35:16I know.
35:18Only the whole time, he was sleeping with me.
35:25He was telling me that he loved me.
35:28That he was going to leave his wife for me.
35:34Guys can be like that sometimes, Chloe.
35:36They can lie, and I know when you find out how much it can break your heart.
35:46I'm pregnant.
35:49Well, that's even more reason for us to get you some help.
35:52Right?
35:52I just wanted to talk to her.
36:03That's all.
36:05I just wanted to tell her that Ian and I were in love.
36:09I know what happened to Sarah was an accident, Chloe.
36:11I know that.
36:12I left Becca in the park, and I went up to the apartment just to see if it was true.
36:17I knew, because I'd seen the way he was looking at her.
36:25As soon as I saw Ian's bed, I knew he went to take a shower.
36:29So I came down here just to talk to Sarah.
36:35I know you didn't mean to kill her, Chloe.
36:39Sarah was my friend.
36:40You know, but she just, she didn't, she didn't get it.
36:45She didn't get how we felt about each other.
36:49So when, when she turned around, I just grabbed the bleach, and I hit her with it.
36:55And she fell.
36:57And I was so scared.
36:59I didn't, I didn't know what to do, so I just, I put her in the dryer.
37:04I was so angry, you know, so mad.
37:15Chloe, put the knife down, okay?
37:19Let me help you.
37:28Just put the knife down.
37:31Come on.
37:34I'm so stupid.
37:49It's okay.
37:50It's okay.
38:04So, looks like I managed to make it through the case without getting injured, shot, or killed.
38:15Yeah, well, maybe tomorrow.
38:17By the way, I really liked that whole, uh, sisterhood thing you ran back there.
38:24He wasn't running anything, Castle.
38:26What that guy did had consequences, only he'll get to just walk away.
38:31Well, not scot-free.
38:33I mean, I sense a pretty big divorce settlement in his future.
38:36Whatever it is, it won't be enough.
38:38So, did you guys get him?
39:05On the way up the river as we speak.
39:08Cool.
39:09Was it who you thought?
39:10Actually, it wasn't.
39:13Wow.
39:14It must have been a pretty good story to surprise you.
39:16Mm-hmm.
39:17You know, you better be careful or you'll turn to one of your readers.
39:20Oh, okay.
39:21You just ruined it.
39:24You know, it's okay to be surprised sometimes.
39:27That's the fun.
39:31You surprise me.
39:33All the time.
39:39I'll see you in the morning, Dad.
39:40Night, pumpkin.
39:44Dad?
39:45Mm-hmm?
39:47Thanks for being my nanny.
39:50No sweat, kiddo.
39:51I can see it in your eyes.
39:55It's speaking to me.
40:07Brush your head right here.
40:11To feel free.
40:15Okay.
40:15I'll see you in the morning, Dad.
40:16I'll see you in the morning, Dad.
40:18Oh, come on in.
40:23The door is always open for you.
40:28My friend will always be here.
40:35Come on in.
