00:09The Problem in Its True Magnitude.
00:12We appreciate the prompt and detailed response of the Director of School Infrastructure of the Ministry of Education,
00:18Engineer Roberto Herrera, to the reports and editorials in Listín Diario
00:23regarding the abandonment of dozens of schools nationwide.
00:27The report submitted confirms the magnitude of the problem inherited from years of institutional neglect
00:33but also demonstrates that it has been addressed with responsibility and determination.
00:39The initial assessment revealed hundreds of stalled projects, expired contracts, schools without designated sites
00:45and an alarming number of centres in disrepair or at structural risk.
00:50Given this situation, we celebrate the implementation of the 24-7 Plan
00:56which promises to deliver more than a thousand classrooms for the next school year
01:00through uninterrupted workdays as well as an ambitious national maintenance programme.
01:05We also value the inter-institutional coordination implemented to unblock the legal, financial and administrative bottlenecks
01:12that prevented progress on many of these projects
01:15as well as the implementation of real-time monitoring, oversight and follow-up systems.
01:20The country needs tangible results, but recognition of this institutional recovery effort is justified.
01:26The commitment expressed by President Abinader and Minister Luis Miguel de Campes to this mission
01:32is a step in the right direction.
01:34At Listín Diario, we will continue to be vigilant so that this rescue promise translates into open, safe and functional classrooms
01:42for the children and young people of our country.
