The Liberal party could lose even more of its blue-ribbon Sydney territory with the independent Nicole Boele leading in the seat of Bradfield. That race has been tightening today, but the Teal candidate is still ahead by 16,000 votes. Labor also had some disappointment in its traditional heartland, failing to dislodge the independent MP Dai Le.

00:00The South West Sydney seat of Fowler was a Labor stronghold until 2022 when Dai Li turned
00:09it independent. Party bosses hoped that was a one-off. They were wrong.
00:14She knew about the Asian, what the Asian like, yeah?
00:17Seeing like an Asian, like a Vietnamese woman, you know, represent us, it's very empowering.
00:23Dai Li's not only one, she looks to have increased her vote. She says it could have been even
00:27higher without Labor's negative messaging.
00:30That definitely actually had an impact.
00:35On the North Shore, another independent was causing some disruption of her own.
00:39Well, it was an exciting night.
00:43On her second attempt at winning the seat of Bradfield from the Liberals, Independent Nicolette
00:47Buller is in front. She's not declaring victory yet, but she's still chalking up a win of sorts.
00:53We have proven that there is no such thing as a safe seat.
00:59If Bradfield does turn teal, the Liberals will have almost no representation in some of Sydney's
01:04most affluent areas. The eastern suburbs, northern beaches and North Shore are no longer the safe
01:10havens they once were.
01:13All of Sydney's so-called teal MPs were returned. The member for Wentworth believes the Liberal
01:18Party could one day win back its old territory. But she says it could only do that from the centre.
01:22If any party sort of goes on the extremes, on either side, I think that's where you lose
01:28a lot of people, particularly in the cities. And I think that's what we've seen out of
01:31this election.
01:32Over the mountains, National turned Independent MP Andrew Gee solidified his position in Calair.
01:38It's Independent stay in Calair!
01:41But it's a better result for the Nationals in the North Coast seat of Cowper, with Pat Conaghan
01:47fending off a challenge from Independent CAS Highs.
