In Western Australia, Labor retained its dominance with another emphatic federal election result, even better than the last, with a surprise win in the seat of Moore. The Liberal party’s failure to win back the one prized seat of Curtin from Independent Kate Chaney capped off a miserable night.

00:00Team WA Labor riding the high of a sweeping victory.
00:09I'm really so pleased to be here with my Western Australian colleagues and what a great gang it is.
00:15More people are coming and more as part of our team. Thank you, I didn't even mean that.
00:21Snatching the seat of more from the Liberals in a surprise game for the party.
00:26Well, it's been 38 years in the making. I'm an electrician by trade. I grew up in hospitality.
00:31I bring quite a broad range of experience to the seat.
00:34In the seat of Curtin, it was an anxious wait for independent Kate Cheney, but not for her supporters who were enjoying the fun.
00:42They had reason to celebrate Ms Cheney going on to defend her seat against Liberal challenger Tom White.
00:48So I want to pay my respects to Kate Cheney at a formidable appointment.
00:51And increasing her margin.
00:53I'm so proud of the campaign that we've won and so thrilled to be here with so many of our beautiful volunteers.
01:04Curtin was key for the Liberals, but voters had other ideas.
01:08The main turning point is the young generation, especially the housing crisis.
01:13We really sort of need something and someone that's going to support us there.
01:17It's all very well to think about what's impacting us right now and that is important, but if we don't have like a safe place to live in 20, 30, 40, 50 years then...
01:28So this has to be a learning opportunity for the Liberal Party and it has to be an opportunity to find a way to connect with more of the Australian public.
01:37Labor retained its most marginal seat, Tangney, in Perth South with Dolphin Trainer turned MP Sam Lim securing another term.
01:48Thank you to people of Tangney for entrusting me again to do work for them, listen to them.
01:55Labor are relishing in their results here in the West in what they say has been a surprising outcome, performing better than expected.
02:04But they say it isn't down to luck.
02:06It is a lot of hard work and all these people behind me have been working really hard for a long time.
02:11The new seat of Bullwinkle is too close to call. The race was a three-cornered contest but has come down to a neck and neck battle between Labor's Trish Cook and the Liberals Matt Moran after Nationals candidate Mia Davies conceded.
02:25Obviously we're still counting Bullwinkle. I'm a nurse, I'm a midwife, particularly as a midwife I'm used to waiting.
02:33We're not done yet. I talk about resilience and I've done a fair few things in my life and I can tell you this has been the toughest.
02:41Labor's Josh Wilson is facing a tough fight in Fremantle against independent Kate Hewlett.
02:47Miss Hewlett returned to contest the federal seat after narrowly missing out at the state poll.
02:52There's been a monumental shift in politics in Fremantle from the state and federal elections
02:59and people are now paying attention and their eyes are on the government.
03:05While some are left waiting for the count to come in, others are left to breathe a sigh of relief.
03:12So move first.
03:14Stay tuned.
03:16Try and play when you're sitting.
03:18Once you're at that point, make a question of a human being.
03:20Take a look of a beautiful journey to your child.
03:22For the count of my child in the state and your child, make a little person who is at the level of the state.
03:26You can see the test of everyone.
03:28You can see the test of everybody.
03:30You can see the test of everybody.
03:31You can see the test of everybody because they can't get a short line at the police.
03:34After all, you're using the test of everybody who is your child.
03:36You can see them who are at the system.
03:38You can see the test of everybody at the end of the state of its camp.
