00:00League winners.
00:01Who's going to win the leagues here?
00:02The focus today is on the National League as we rack after one month.
00:06And you say, okay, we had late March.
00:08Well, I guess you could say mid-March if you take it to the Dodgers
00:10and the Cubs series that they played overseas.
00:12But technically, one full month in, it's May the 2nd here.
00:15And not a lot has changed with the odds market because most of the sudden,
00:18you know what?
00:19Talented teams, if they're not playing well, they will get it together.
00:22Talented teams that are playing well, we're not going to move their numbers.
00:24And also talented teams that, if they're a little bit injured,
00:27those teams, like the Atlanta Braves, will get healthier over the summer.
00:30And we expect really good baseball out of them.
00:32So the NL pennant odds here on the FanDuel Sportsbook to win it
00:35would be the Dodgers at a plus 140 price.
00:38The New York Mets at a 5-1 price now.
00:40The Phillies 7-1, the Braves 8-1, followed by the Cubs and the Padres.
00:43So we look at those price points up top, and we always start with the Dodgers.
00:47Value on the Dodgers, you can say yes, you can say no.
00:51What is it, Joe?
00:53No, there's no value on the Dodgers.
00:55I mean, it's just, it's absurd at this point.
00:58The only value with the Dodgers is fading them in certain spots, Donnie.
01:03That's it.
01:04That's where the only value, because everyone they're going to play is going to be a $2
01:07underdog or better.
01:10And if you pick your right spots there, that's how you can make some money betting
01:13the Dodger games moving forward.
01:16But right now, it's very hard to go in a future market with the Dodgers in any way,
01:23shape, or form, just because we're one month into the season, and we all know craziness
01:28was going to, it can happen.
01:29Don't forget, this team's win total last year was, what, 106, Donnie, I think?
01:34And everyone was betting it over like they were going to win 115 games.
01:38And, well, injuries started to mount.
01:40They went through some stretches that weren't great.
01:42And yes, they ended up winning it all.
01:45But yeah, I'm not tying that money up for that kind of price.
01:50I'm going to look for other value in fading the Dodgers throughout the regular season.
01:55It does make sense.
01:56And also, we talked about that hot start for the Dodgers.
01:59Hey, well, they go 162-0 at that point, like the jokes were out there.
02:02Then they go on a little bit of a losing streak.
02:04But then you look at today, again, on May 2nd, they have the best overall record in Major
02:07League Baseball.
02:08And theoretically, they're not even playing their best baseball.
02:10If you look at the National League and the Cubs, 192 total runs scored.
02:14The Dodgers are at 167.
02:16The Mets are at 150.
02:17The Padres at 118.
02:18So there are different ways to play this out.
02:20But if you are looking at the Dodgers as the total favorite, you're probably going to wind
02:24up being correct.
02:24But as Joe pointed out, it's not like, hey, I bet a plus 140 on a Tuesday and just got paid
02:29out Tuesday night for that plus 140.
02:31That's a nice return.
02:32A plus 140 to wait nine months for?
02:34Maybe not the greatest return when you can put your play and your money elsewhere at that
02:37point.
02:37The New York Mets also with 21 victories here on the season, followed just by the Dodgers
02:42as that tie.
02:43You take a look going down to the Padres, the Cubs, the Giants, the Dimebacks, and the
02:46Phillies.
02:46A lot of teams bunched up, and rightfully so, after one month into the Major League Baseball
02:50season.
02:51But if we are looking at that odds market once again, and you're pointing out to the National
02:54League and saying, you know what?
02:56The challenge to the Dodgers, is it going to be the Mets?
02:59I look at the Mets' front line rotation.
03:00I'm like, okay, it's pitching well now, but that's not the pedigree I want to really lean on.
03:03The Phillies do have a pedigree there.
03:05The Atlanta Braves, you're hoping to get that pedigree back, which is basically Spencer
03:08Strider, now from a hamstring injury of an elbow injury that he was building off of,
03:13and then the Chicago Cubs and the Padres.
03:15If you look at the contenders, let's just say these teams, Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Braves,
03:20Cubs, and Padres all make the playoffs.
03:22Who's the danger to the Dodgers, Joe?
03:24Well, you know, obviously the Padres know them pretty well, and the Padres also have
03:33one of the best bullpens in Major League Baseball.
03:36Again, they've been pretty shut down.
03:39They do have some help coming back, I believe, in the starting pitching as well.
03:44They are not 100%.
03:46Dylan Cease is still working his way back to peak form.
03:49But the Cubs feel like the Yankees in the American League.
03:52It feels like the Cubs, you're going to have to score 12 runs to beat them.
03:56And even though the pitching's a little suspect there, Donnie, well, how good does pitching
04:01got to be if you're scoring 10 runs a game?
04:04And that's kind of what the Cubs lineup right now feels like.
04:08Like, they can absolutely mash, and you better be able to hit the ball if you're going to
04:12go toe-to-toe with the Cubs.
04:13So I do think there are some teams here that, if things start going a little left on the
04:20Dodgers, absolute value there on that page with some of these teams down the stretch.
04:26If we keep it from 20 to 1 or less on that graphic, which, again, ends with the Diamondbacks
04:31and starts with the Dodgers, I don't want to ask you, like, who, again, because I just,
04:34like, who can challenge the Dodgers?
04:36There could be a couple teams in there, right?
04:37But who's the team that you look at and say, it's fool's gold?
04:40Diamondbacks, Padres, Cubs, Braves, Phillies, Mets, and Dodgers.
04:43Give me one team that, like, you know what?
04:44I don't care how much money you give me or a free wager, Donnie.
04:48I'm not going to bet this team to win the pennant in the National League.
04:51Yeah, I, listen, I think the Mets and that bullpen is, and quite honestly, even that starting
04:58rotation, I think the pitching for the Mets at 5-1 is a bit of fool's gold there.
05:04Their rotation is not as good as what the Phillies have.
05:07The Phillies do have some issues in the bullpen, but not, I think the Mets are a team that,
05:12don't forget, started the season, Donnie, I think, remember, where they couldn't score
05:16any runs, but the bullpen was overperforming and nobody else was scoring against them.
05:21I think they overperformed early.
05:23Now they've got some injuries, and now we're starting to see, we're starting to see that
05:28take its toll on this team.
05:30I think the Mets are total fool's gold because I don't think they're better than the Phillies
05:34or the Braves.
05:35When you take a look at the Braves, too, because they're starting a lightning rod team, open
05:38up the season, look terrible, played a tough schedule, we get it, sort of battled back
05:42here, right?
05:4214 and 16 on the season, 7 and 3 in their last 10 games, players back on the way.
05:47Acuna's going to be back sooner than later.
05:49You're hoping that you get Spencer Strider back.
05:51How do you play the Braves with the rest of the season?
05:53Because for me, Joe, I've said it time and time again, I love the front office.
05:57I believe they'll make the right moves when they need to make those moves.
05:59How do we view the Braves here from this part of the season where they're still under 500
06:03to maybe the all-star break or so?
06:06Yeah, well, again, they are a team, Donnie.
06:09I think we can all agree, when healthy and if they have their full complement, and you
06:13mentioned the front office and their willingness not to make the splashy move, but to make the
06:19necessary moves in order to make this team better.
06:21You saw it a couple of years ago when they got Solar, and everyone's like, what are we doing
06:25here?
06:26And it turns out that was absolutely huge for them.
06:30I think the ceiling is higher for Atlanta than it is, meaning we haven't seen the best
06:36Atlanta has yet.
06:38I think the ceiling is much higher for them, and I think now is a perfect, while they're
06:43under 500, a perfect buy-low spot on them moving forward here, especially as they start
06:49getting some of their pieces back in.
06:51Yeah, I'll tell you, a buy-low spot here would be at the bottom of the National League
06:55and the standings particularly.
06:56And by the way, it feels a little disrespectful.
06:58At least the Nationals are 180 to 1, clear.
07:00If you are the Miami Marlins, we know the Rockies are horrendous.
07:04How can you have the same price point as the Rockies if you are the Marlins right now?
07:08And that's tough times.
07:09At 200 to 1 to win the pennant.
07:11The question is, we're the one of those teams with 20 games on the season, it feels like.
07:15We'll take a look at the awards market in the National League coming up next right here
07:19on the early line.
07:20MVP!
07:21MVP!
07:22Yeah, that's what we're going to talk about next in Major League Baseball, particularly
07:25from the National League.
07:26Now, yesterday, correct me if I'm wrong, we were taking a look at Aaron Judge, and it's
07:30minus 600 to be the MVP of the American League.
07:33Hey, at least you get a little value in the National League here with Shohei Ohtani at
07:37a plus 260 price one month into the season, followed by Fernando Tatis Jr., Kyle Tucker,
07:43Corbin Carroll, Pete Alonso, and Juan Soto.
07:45So this market, we have some ability to talk about maybe somebody taking down Ohtani, because
07:51apparently, there's not a single good Major League Baseball player in the American League
07:54outside of Aaron Judge.
07:56Talking about Ohtani at that plus 260 price.
07:59Not lighting the world on fire, but still the favorite.
08:03No, and listen, there's a couple of other guys there.
08:06Pete Alonso is having, I mean, he's no Aaron Judge, but those two guys, the numbers that they've
08:13put up through a month and a season, have been absolutely over the top.
08:18I don't think you can sleep on Kyle Tucker with what he has really rejuvenated that lineup
08:23of the Cubs, who can score with anybody.
08:26So, you know, again, it comes down to value here when we're talking about MVPs.
08:31Do we trust Ohtani to be healthy enough and to do enough to tie up money there at plus 260?
08:38Or do we go down the board with a Pete Alonso at 11-1 here or Corbin Carroll at 5-1?
08:47I think the National League is much, much closer than right now.
08:52You can't even make an argument for Bobby Witt Jr. over Aaron Judge.
08:56It's not even remotely close.
08:58You got some monster numbers as you start to get down past Francisco Lindor, too.
09:02Bryce Harper, 50-1.
09:03Austin Raleigh, 50-1.
09:04Ellie De La Cruz, 50-1.
09:06Mookie Betts, 50-1.
09:07You get the point here.
09:07It's just a matter of, like, the dam will break, like, if Ohtani has to miss two to three weeks at that point,
09:13and then you'll really see that market open up.
09:14And quite frankly, the same thing with the American League.
09:16But at least Ohtani is at minus 600 to win this overall market as it goes.
09:21Now, Cy Young's that we talk about, right?
09:23Tarek Skubel yesterday, favorite here for the American League.
09:26And you take a look at the National League, which we didn't have a great performance yesterday out of Paul Skeens.
09:30Now, granted, he's going to have 20-plus more starts the rest of the summer, and we'll be able to figure things out.
09:34He's a plus 240 price right now, followed by Yamamoto of the Dodgers at plus 460.
09:39Hunter Green of the Reds, who's been very good this year at a 7-1 price.
09:43Zach Wheeler, Logan Webb, Michael King.
09:45Skeens.
09:46Are we worried a little bit about Skeens now?
09:47It's a great time to talk about it after that performance yesterday.
09:50Yeah, well, I mean, the indications are that, you know, you've got to be careful with him.
09:57And he pitched a lot more, Donnie, last year.
10:00You and I talked about it.
10:02Like, why are we pitching him in the late August and September?
10:07Like, what are we doing?
10:07What are we chasing here?
10:09You know, this kid had come right from college and the college world.
10:14There was a lot of baseball he had playing, and that's what we were worried about is saying, hey, you know, there's no reason to burn this kid out as fast as you're doing it.
10:24And voila, here we are.
10:27And by the way, the signs were there not just in yesterday's game, but the last couple of starts.
10:32He's given up more runs than he's ever done.
10:34He's given up more barrels than he's done before.
10:37So this wasn't an anomaly.
10:39It's been like that for the last couple of starts now with ball schemes.
10:42And by the way, let's flip it down.
10:44We're going to have some fun here with this.
10:45The National League Rookie of the Year, right?
10:47You see Dylan Cruz up there at a plus 250 price.
10:50Now, in the FanDuel Sportsbook, most of the players have logos next to their name.
10:54Like, I know who Chase Dollinger is, and I've seen him play Eric Wagaman.
10:57I've actually bet him on a couple props for the Marlins.
10:59But as I get lower down there, like, I don't know these guys.
11:02Like, if I ask you who Quinn Matthews is, he's at a 70-to-1 price.
11:06Do you know who he plays for?
11:07I don't know who he plays for.
11:08No.
11:09No.
11:10No idea.
11:11Absolutely not.
11:12And none of them are taking the world by storm.
11:15So, that's the problem.
11:17Craig Yoho?
11:19Yeah.
11:19Craig Yoho?
11:21Well, see, that's what I like.
11:22Joe Frizo's in our ear.
11:23The producer's saying they haven't played yet.
11:24But you can't, like, Brandon Sprott.
11:27You know what I mean?
11:28Come on now.
11:30Well, but then, also, if they haven't played yet, shouldn't they be so good they're on
11:33this list that we should know they're up and coming, right?
11:35Chase Burns, 200-to-1?
11:37He could be putting fake names in here, Joe Ranieri, and tripping me up at this point right
11:41now.
11:42I agree.
11:43How about manager?
11:43And of the ones that we do know, and they're not exactly taking the world by storm here,
11:50I'm just saying.
11:51Although, I will say, the kid that came up and pitched for Kansas City the other day
11:55against Tampa Bay was pretty darn impressive.
11:58So, it'll be interesting to see what happens moving forward with him as well.
12:04Manager of the year.
12:05Always an exciting market, Joe.
12:06To handicap after one month into the season, the Fan Blue Sportsbook list.
12:09Craig Council, the Cubs, had a plus-170 price.
12:13Melvin, Schilt, Francona, Mendoza.
12:15I mean, come on.
12:15Who's the runaway right now?
12:16Dave Roberts getting no respect in 12-to-1 right now.
12:18None.
12:20Well, you and I could win with that, you know, roster that he has been given.
12:25Let's not make it sound like he's managing anything.
12:27He's just showing up and wearing a uniform.
12:30Take care.
12:30Yeah, no.
12:31No, that's, yeah.
12:32He shouldn't be into consideration.
12:34Major League Baseball, it's a Friday.
12:36It's a full slate of action.
12:37Matchup after matchup after matchup.
12:39When we got you covered right here on the Sports Grid Network.
12:41It's on the right side.
12:42It's Joe Ranieri.
12:43And we got a good one here.
12:44Maybe a playoff preview for us.
12:45The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves.
12:48907-908 on the rotation.
12:507-15 tonight from the Big A.
12:52And look at this favorite.
12:53It's big for the Dodgers.
12:54Yamamoto versus Holmes.
12:56A 178 price overnight here as the favorite for the Dodgers.
12:59Now currently sits at 178.
13:02Other outlets as high as 180.
13:03The eight and a halves, they're all gone.
13:05They're nine across the board, which includes the FanDuel Sportsbook.
13:09Yamamoto versus Holmes in Atlanta tonight.
13:11Any early thoughts from you, Joe Ranieri?
13:14Well, I got to tell you, Holmes has actually done a very good job for the Braves holding it down.
13:20I mean, they, he has been extremely competitive and he has limited the damage here, giving this lineup an opportunity to get into games.
13:29The problem is going up against a Yamamoto that has just been absolutely phenomenal here over his last couple of starts.
13:38This is the first game, I believe, what is going to be a 10-game road trip here for the Dodgers.
13:46So if you're not looking to fade the Dodgers in this first one, again, this is a, this could be the, the trip where maybe you start picking your spots here.
13:56They're always going to be a favorite, right?
13:58We know this, but it's these kinds of trips, Donnie, where we're going to look to try to fade the Dodgers in a couple of games.
14:05At the, at the look of it, yes, Yamamoto has the pitching advantage, but don't sleep on Holmes, especially Atlanta at home.
14:13I would look to back Atlanta early in this game.
14:16I don't know that I'd be looking the full game at the minus 180 price here.
14:22I like Atlanta early to have the lead here after the fifth inning.
14:2676 degrees in Atlanta tonight, four minor wins, more from a right foul pole to a left foul pole.
14:30So pretty good hitting conditions.
14:32If we are just looking at the analytical numbers, Yamamoto comes in number one on the card today at a 2.21 XFIP number and ERA of 1.06.
14:40You look at Holmes down there, 28 innings pitched for him, a 450 ERA and a 471 XFIP number.
14:46You always take a look at that Dodgers lineup.
14:48It feels like every time you match them up against right-handed pitching, they dominate.
14:51Outside of Michael Conforto, everybody is super high, weighted on-base percentages, but that's why you play the game on the field,
14:57and that's why the Dodgers listed as a heavy favorite on the road.
15:00We'll see if they play well because if you look at their standings in the season, Joe, very dominant at home, average on the road for the Dodgers,
15:06and we'll see what this road trip here certainly kicks off.
15:09Another big-time series here where a team from the West Coast coming to the East Coast here.
15:14That's Arizona, and that's Philadelphia.
15:16Merrill Kelly on the mound against Jesus Lizardo, who's been very good for the Phillies as a left-handed pitcher.
15:209.05, 9.06 on the rotation, 6.45 starts tonight from Philadelphia.
15:25The line opened up at minus 156 as a favorite towards Philadelphia.
15:28That's down slightly to minus 152 at the FanDuel Sportsbook on a live number.
15:33The nines overnight, Joe, still nines across the board.
15:36Diamondbacks, Phillies in Philadelphia.
15:38Well, the only way you can look to back Arizona in this game is early because Arizona's bullpen is a hot mess here.
15:47They're dealing with injuries at the back end of that bullpen all over the place,
15:52and kudos to them for being able to win the last couple of games there at Citi Field against the Mets here.
15:59And, you know, Philly last night, Philly played the late game yesterday with Washington,
16:05one of the later starts when Arizona had just beaten the Mets.
16:10And once again, you know, a 4-2 loss by Philadelphia.
16:13Now they've got to turn around and get this Arizona team that, again, that bullpen issue.
16:19And guys, I mean, how much more can they do?
16:23They're not scoring a ton of runs, but the bullpen has stepped up.
16:27They're going to have to keep stepping up.
16:28I don't think they do it in this first game, though.
16:31I think the Phillies end up getting it done full game, and I think that's a cheap price.
16:35Under $1.50 is a pretty cheap price for Philadelphia,
16:38who's got the advantage in starting pitching in this one, and bullpen for that matter.
16:43Yeah, it's interesting.
16:44You look at Jesus Lozardo, one of those guys that was so talented throughout his Major League Baseball career.
16:48Couldn't get it together.
16:49It was injuries or just bad pitching.
16:50How about this for the Phillies?
16:5136 in the third innings pitch, Joe.
16:53An ERA, 1.73 in the next fifth, very manageable at 3.04.
16:57You line up that Arizona Diamondbacks card today.
17:00Yes, they have good batters in the lineup, but certainly not so good against left-handed pitching.
17:05Anticipated to be back in the lineup today, though.
17:07Kito Marte at the top.
17:09We'll see once those lineup cards come out a little bit later in the day to sort of add some extra pop to that lineup.
17:14Next game, we'll talk about 9-0-9, 9-10 on the rotation.
17:168-10 start from Milwaukee.
17:18That's those Cubbies taking on the Brewers.
17:20Brown versus Priester.
17:22Line opened up minus 1-12 overnight.
17:24Slightly higher right now on the number at a minus-116 price, as high as 120 at other outlets.
17:298-1⁄2, still sitting at 8-1⁄2.
17:31Cubbies and the Brewers getting it on tonight from Milwaukee.
17:36Yeah, you got to like that.
17:37A little rivalry here, right?
17:39A little division rivalry going on between these two teams.
17:43And, again, Cubs, man, it's kind of hard with that lineup to go against them at any moment.
17:52They've got the big innings coming their way.
17:55Listen, neither pitcher is going to excite you here to want to back early.
18:00I think runs are coming in this game.
18:03I think both lineups against this starting pitching are going to have some success.
18:08I'd be looking to go the first five over, Donnie.
18:11I think both of these guys are going to have some issues here against these two lineups.
18:16I think we're going to get some runs here early in this game.
18:19I think you might be right, too.
18:20You take a look at 48-degree temperatures and say, well, it doesn't matter.
18:23They're inside a dome, so who cares if it's in Milwaukee or not at this point, right?
18:26So that's going to help out.
18:27But also from a pitching perspective, Quinn Priester, only 19 innings pitched on the season, Joe.
18:32A 3.79 ERA, which isn't bad.
18:34But look at that XFIP number approaching five, which means not a lot of strikeouts, too many fly balls,
18:38too many free passes tend to get yourself in trouble.
18:41And then Ben Brown on the opposite side, he's actually got a better XFIP number than his ERA.
18:4525 and a third innings pitched, a 6 ERA, and a 4.03 XFIP number.
18:51If we line up the batters here, Quinn Priester is a right-handed pitcher, Joe.
18:54Look at the middle of that lineup.
18:55Tucker, high ice and weighted on base percentage.
18:57Suzuki, same thing.
18:58Bush, same thing.
18:59Carson Kelly.
19:00You got some guys in the middle of that lineup can do some damage.
19:03Now, yesterday, I actually got a little lucky.
19:05I really liked the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday for a team total.
19:08They didn't even score a run, but always press this to people.
19:11Make sure you see the final starting lineups, because the best hitter, per se, in the lineup
19:15should have been yesterday in the matchup was Christian Yelich.
19:17He sat that game out.
19:19So, it automatically backed off, and it worked out well.
19:21Now, today, Yelich is expected to be back in the lineup against a right-handed pitching
19:24Brown, and then you take a look at the weighted on base percentages.
19:27Six of them out of the nine, extremely high against right-handed pitching.
19:31That includes Terang.
19:32That includes Yelich and Contreras and Freilich and Hoskins and Bowers.
19:35So, I'm with you at this point.
19:36We don't have pedigree pitchers on both sides, but both of these lineups squaring up fairly
19:41well.
19:41And again, 48 degrees in Milwaukee.
19:43Oh, Donnie, it's cold.
19:44Again, it's played in a dome.
19:45It'll be nice and toasty inside that dome.
19:47Maybe the ball carries.
19:49More Major League Baseball on deck right here for the early line.
19:53Ah, why do we love Fridays?
19:54Well, the weekend is coming up, which we do love that.
19:57We also have good Friday action in Major League Baseball, as well as the NBA, as well as the
20:01NHL, and a huge weekend, which includes the Kentucky Derby.
20:04So, while we continue down that Major League Baseball path, 805 start tonight, 925, 926
20:10on the rotation.
20:11It's Seattle, and it's Texas.
20:13Enter the woo on the mound there for Seattle, going up against Jack Leiter.
20:17The total in this game sits at 8.5 at the opening number.
20:20That has now dropped to 8 at the FanDuel Sportsbook and most outlets.
20:23You also take a look at that minus 134 price as a favorite, really dipping back to almost
20:28a minus 115, minus 118 number.
20:31So, a coin flip here.
20:32Seattle on the road to take on the Rangers.
20:35Give me some thoughts on this game for you, Joe Ranieri.
20:38Two teams heading in opposite directions lately.
20:41The Mariners are crushing the ball here.
20:44Meanwhile, the Rangers can't figure out how to score.
20:48It's not been a good stretch.
20:49They're still dealing with some injuries.
20:51And the Mariners are going to send out their best starter right now with Logan Gilbert on
20:56the I.L.
20:57So, although Leiter has been pretty good here so far, Donnie.
21:02You got the numbers in front of you, and he's been pretty impressive here.
21:06But Seattle has won seven straight series and 15 of the past 20 games they have done.
21:14So, pretty impressive stuff.
21:16Not that they are taking on the best of competition, but this feels like maybe an early under.
21:23I like both starters.
21:25I don't trust the Rangers' bats just yet.
21:28I certainly don't trust them against Wu.
21:30So, I'd be looking at a first five under in this point.
21:34Because once you get to the bullpens, anything is possible with these two teams.
21:37Yeah, take a look at Brian Wool in the season.
21:3932 innings pitched at 3.09 ERA, which is very manageable.
21:43Slightly higher XFIP at 3.76.
21:45But Jack Leiter used to be Jack Leiter, your money on fire, if you started him last year.
21:49He has been solid.
21:50But again, 13 and a third innings pitched.
21:52It's still early.
21:53But he does have an ERA of 2.03 and an XFIP of 3.41.
21:57You take a look at that Texas lineup, which is, when Seager's not in there, it's like,
22:00ah, what's going to happen here?
22:02Mark Simeon's not in that.
22:03Or Mark Simeon's in the lineup, but not the old Mark Simeon that we used to,
22:06that used to lead off and absolutely do a lot of damage.
22:08But that Mariners lineup, by the way, is coming back a little bit.
22:11Oh, Rodriguez posts well against right-handed pitching.
22:14Polanco, Raleigh, Rosarania, Tellez.
22:16So they've had some pretty good at-bats here, which is great.
22:18That's the only thing that we used to get upset with, with the Mariners.
22:21You'll get that good young starting pitching, and then they get beat 2-1
22:24because they can't get any base hits.
22:25We'll see if that changes tonight in, down, excuse me, down in Texas.
22:29Let's keep it moving down the list as we go.
22:31Again, an important Friday card here, which includes Tarek Skubal on the mound today,
22:35going up against the Los Angeles Angels.
22:37Rotation, 9-27, 9-28, a 9-38 start tonight.
22:41Skubal the lefty, Soriano the righty.
22:43This line opened up at around minus 165.
22:45It's now up to minus 178 live at the FanDuel Sportsbook.
22:49That's 7.5 total at the opening number.
22:51As you see, that graphic still sits at 7.5 as well.
22:55Cy Young is on the mound today.
22:56Does that mean a big difference here for the Tigers in a victory again over the Angels?
23:00Well, I mean, Skubal has been pretty good.
23:05And again, the only team that I have seen that has given him any issues really has been the Royals.
23:11But, you know, eight runs in the eighth and ninth inning is what saved Detroit last night.
23:17They got a really good outing from Casey Mize, who went seven innings.
23:22So, the bullpen for Detroit certainly will be ready to go here if need be.
23:29But, I mean, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
23:32Why in the world would we go against Soriano here?
23:37Detroit, I mean, why would we go against Skubal?
23:41Soriano and that Detroit lineup should be able to put some runs on the board here.
23:46It's a low total, but I think that has everything to do with Skubal.
23:49And I don't think we're realizing what kind of gas can this Angels team and bullpen is.
23:55So, I'd be looking at an over in this one here for sure.
23:59Yeah, and also take a look.
24:00Maybe that first five innings, you take a run line on Detroit being up one to nothing.
24:04I know, Joe, run lines sort of hurt you sometimes, but certainly can help you if the handicap is right.
24:08You take a look at Jose Soriano on the season.
24:1034 innings pitched, a 450 ERA, and a 3.61 extra number.
24:14So, he hasn't actually been bad.
24:16And then there's Skubal.
24:17Outside of those first two starts that he's had, take a look at him, 34 in two-thirds innings pitched.
24:21He's got that ERA back down to 2.34 and an XFIP of 2.75.
24:25Now, here's where it comes in where you just look at the lineups.
24:28The lineup for the Tigers isn't fantastic against right-handed pitching, but you've got a lot of good lefty bats.
24:33Kerry Carpenter, Zach McKinstry, Riley Green, and, of course, Torkelson is having a very good season against righty and lefties.
24:38But if you look at that Los Angeles lineup, remember all the good vibes for the first three weeks of the season
24:42when they were pounding the baseball and having good times?
24:44Against Skubal, who is a lefty, the presentation is tremendously bad tonight.
24:49A lot of strikeouts.
24:50A lot of low-weighted on-base percentages.
24:52Very few guy with high ISO power numbers.
24:55Skubal should be able to walk through this game, but, again, that's why they play.
24:5870-degree temperatures out there in Los Angeles tonight.
25:00Light wind blowing out the dead center field.
25:02We'll see what happens.
25:03But for me, if I'm betting the Tigers, probably going first five run line with Skubal.
25:071-0.
25:07We walk away a victory.
