AccuWeather Long-Range Expert Joe Lundberg looks ahead to next week, when cooler and wetter days are ahead for the Northeast while the Southeast can expect to remain dry.
Transcript
00:00Let's get you started here for the three things that we have to be get ready for for next week.
00:06Yeah, and those three things really are highlighted by the fact that it's going to be cool and wet,
00:10as you just heard Ari talking about, across the northeast and mid-Atlantic region.
00:14Rain, showers, thunderstorms all on the forecast for several days next week.
00:18There's not going to be much drought relief from the Carolinas and Florida.
00:20I think there can be some rain, but probably not a lot.
00:23Certainly not going to make much of a dent if you get it.
00:25It's going to be very wet early across the southern plains.
00:28But as you go deeper into the week, it should dry out across the southern plains.
00:32Joe, a very interesting weather pattern as we go through next week,
00:38because we've got these upper lows that are going to cause some problems
00:42along each of the coasts this weekend and in the early next week.
00:45Think of it like this, Bernie.
00:47When you have a river that floods, as the water recedes, it leaves behind puddles of water.
00:52That's what we're happening next week in the jet stream.
00:55The main branch of the jet stream just kind of disappears off the map.
00:58And as it does, this is what you see for Sunday evening.
01:01You see these little systems in here, this closed upper level low.
01:04That's over the Ohio Valley.
01:05Here comes another one into the south and west.
01:07These are big features.
01:09They become detached from the main branch of the jet stream,
01:12and therefore they kind of move with impulse power.
01:14This one will have enough forward momentum to get into the southern Rockies
01:17and then the southern plains that we go into the middle of next week.
01:20This one will stick around for a couple of days.
01:21Then it will rotate through the mid-Atlantic and northeast as we get into Wednesday.
01:25And as you move this farther to the end of the week,
01:29you'll see that another feature tries to drop down from the northern plains into the Ohio Valley.
01:33What that does is it leaves the upper levels cooler than average across much of the southern tier of states.
01:40And that means an opportunity for shower and thunderstorm activity,
01:43and it keeps the temperatures down in those areas.
01:45But to the north, it gets warm.
01:46In fact, here's the big picture for next week.
01:48The main branch, there you can see it in here, there'll be a dip in here,
01:52but this is picking up that upper level low out of the Ohio Valley and taking with it.
01:56Ahead of it, you're going to have some wet weather basically from the Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic states and New England.
02:02These areas will be cool for a couple of days, then underneath it, it warms up.
02:05Meanwhile, look at this southern branch in here with the upper level low coming out of the southern Rockies.
02:10Rain, thunderstorms, an opportunity for flooding in some of these places, keeping temperatures down.
02:14To the north, though, warm and dry weather will dominate from the northern plains of the Midwest back to the interior northwest.
