00:00This May 1st, the world celebrates International Workers' Day in commemoration of the world labor movement, as well as the eternal struggle for their costs and rights.
00:21The Citizens' Revolution Movement of Ecuador denounces the obstruction of a new appeal against the results of the elections of April 13th.
00:34The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Areas reported an alarming 80% increase in the number of children being treated for malnutrition throughout the region.
00:52Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Jesus Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:05In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro celebrates International Workers' Day with the Bolivarian people.
01:25President Nicolás Maduro addressed the people in the framework of the celebrations for the International Workers' Days.
01:31During his speech, the head of state condemned the coercive measures imposed by the government of the United States of America against the Bolivarian people.
01:40The president also denounced the kidnapping of the Venezuelan baby Mike Kelly Espinosa, who was forcibly separated from her parents when they were deported from the United States,
01:49and the more than 250 Venezuelans illegally held in the maximum security prison of the terrorism confinement center in El Salvador.
02:01They created a narrative from Venezuela, Leopoldo López, a thief, Juan Guaido, Maria Machado, Julio Borges, Antonio Ledesma, Juan Pablo Guanapa.
02:21They are responsible for imposing a narrative by which the Venezuelan migrants who due to the economic sanctions have migrated to the United States,
02:36were criminals from the Trenda Aragua gang, and we have rescued thousands.
02:41One of them is the mother of our dear Marcalis.
02:52Her husband was sent in a brutal and unjust way to a concentration camp in El Salvador.
02:59He hasn't been able to contact any lawyer or judge.
03:03He hasn't committed any crime there.
03:05The Bolivarian president also condemned the false narrative of the country's far right to criminalize the Venezuelan migrant community and promote their persecution.
03:19From 10 o'clock in the morning until this hour, 5.20 in the afternoon of today, May 1st, 2025,
03:33we have seen this demonstration of love, of national union, of street strength.
03:39This is how the people of Venezuela have to make themselves respected by the criminal empire.
03:54Mobilized, united, in the street.
03:58We have to make ourselves respected.
04:00He who does not make himself respected is worthless.
04:04He who is capable of standing up with his truth, with his dignity, as a free man, as a free woman,
04:16in front of any empire, earns the respect of the world, the blessings of God and has the right to victory in all the struggles he carries out.
04:27During the event, the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodriguez,
04:34highlighted the role of the Venezuelan people in the defeat of the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States government against the Bolivarian nation.
04:44And at this point, we can say that this people with its president defeated the blockade.
04:49And here is a thriving Venezuela that looks towards the future and towards prosperity.
04:55In another part of his speech, Rodriguez accused Honduras, El Salvador's president,
05:00Kelly, of kidnapping 253 Venezuelans in a Salvadoran prison
05:05and sentenced that the Venezuelan people and government will not rest until they are returned to Venezuela.
05:11Those 253 young people in El Salvador are innocent.
05:22They have not committed any crime and they have been kidnapped by the criminal and murderer Nayib Bukele.
05:31And we will not rest, our noble people will not rest, the Bolivarian government will not rest.
05:36President Nicolás Maduro will not rest nor any of the good men and women of this country
05:44until the 253 Venezuelans kidnapped in El Salvador are returned to us.
05:51Thousands of workers protested in the capitals of Peru and Ecuador on Thursday
05:56to demand better working rights on May Day.
05:58In Quito, the main trade union organizations marched with a clear objective,
06:03that of asking the recently re-elected President de Novoa for a labor and pension reform
06:08that would give greater stability to the country's Social Security Institute.
06:12On the other hand, in the Peruvian capital, Lima,
06:14a long column of demonstrators was heavily guarded by the national police.
06:18During the demonstration, the Peruvian trade union leaders denounced the existence of exploitation
06:23and even what they call slavery in the labor field.
06:28We are here to tell the government that has won the elections
06:33that obviously the people are not going to give them a blank check.
06:37We are going to demand that they fulfill their campaign promises
06:40and that labor rights are respected.
06:43In Peru, we mark International Workers' Day where we ask every year for justice to be served.
06:50We say no to exploitation of labor and slavery,
06:54either in the public nor in the private sector,
06:56either in the countryside nor in the city.
06:59Today is a day of reflection but also of march and protest,
07:03so that the government knows and learns to respect the workers of the country.
07:07In the city of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, Workers' Day is being celebrated
07:16with a demonstration promoted by the unions as is tradition, not May 1st.
07:21With special emphasis on the reduction of the work in Day 641,
07:25without salary reduction, activities will be held on the Paulista Avenue
07:29and in Sao Bernardo do Campo.
07:31In addition to income tax exemption, workers are demanding wage equality between men and women
07:36and a dignified retirement, together with public policies
07:39that guarantee greater access to health and job security.
07:50And meanwhile, in Greece, the citizens also mobilized to defend the struggles of the sector.
07:56They marched in several cities of the country to accompany
07:58and join the call of the trade union organizations and worker centers.
08:02The workers continue to demand, among other things,
08:05public policies that guarantee better working conditions in the face of the real estate crisis.
08:16Meanwhile, in France, the police repressed protesters mobilizing for International Workers' Day in Paris.
08:22Thousands were attending the rallies and demonstrations demanding from the Macron government
08:26stronger protections from workers, higher wages and greater equality.
08:30The main workers' unions in France also marched in rejection of the advances of the extreme right
08:36and to criticize Trump's measures.
08:38Labor Day demonstrations happened against a backdrop of political instability in the country,
08:43where a parliamentary vote ousted the previous government in December,
08:47leaving the nation without a functioning government for weeks.
08:49And workers in the United States rallied Thursday against the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump
09:02during the International Workers' Day celebrations.
09:05The demonstrations were reported in key cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York,
09:10where workers raised their voices in defense of their labor and human rights.
09:14Migrants also reportedly joined the rallies to demand the respect of their labor rights
09:19regardless of their immigration status or country of origin.
09:23This year's demonstrations have a particular significance in the context of Washington's tough migration and trade policies.
09:29You cannot mistreat the working class, that this country, this economy, the culture of the country is run by the working class.
09:43And in that working class, it includes immigrant workers as well.
09:46The reason why we're here today amongst the other 90 organizations is really to uplift the plight of our immigrant workers
09:52here in Los Angeles and throughout the country.
09:55I'm an American vet and I swore a note to protect our constitution and our government right now,
10:02our federal government is not doing that.
10:04And so I'm teaching my son our civic duty to peaceful protest.
10:10Now we have our first break coming up.
10:11Remember, you can join us on TikTok at Terezole English,

10:42The Citizens' Revolution Movement of Ecuador denounces the obstruction of a new appeal
10:46against the results of the elections of April 13th.
10:50Attorney Francisco Esterellas denounced that the recourse of challenge was filed at the offices of the National Electoral Council
10:57on the night of this Wednesday, April 30th at 23.06 local time.
11:02However, he pointed out that the officials finished counting the minutes at 2.30 a.m. this Thursday,
11:08and at that time the receipt of the document was filed.
11:11This new claim is added to others already rejected by the plenary of the National Electoral Council,
11:16which declared the winner of the presidential elections to the current president, Daniel Noboa,
11:21of the National Democratic Action Movement.
11:31And on Wednesday, the U.S. Senate rejected a bipartisan bill to repeal President Donald Trump's tariffs.
11:37After a 49-49 deadlock on the resolution, Vice President J.D. Vance intervened,
11:43casting a decisive vote to maintain President Donald Trump's trade policies.
11:48Despite bipartisan support from Senators Rand Paul, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkoffsky,
11:54along with the Democrats, the resolution failed to secure the necessary votes for adoption,
11:59largely due to the absence of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, who was unwell.
12:03All the while, Trump has remained resolute in his status stance,
12:08asserting his readiness to veto any such resolution in defense of his trade policies.
12:19The United States government imposes new sanctions on seven entities for trading in Iranian oil.
12:25In the midst of the negotiations on the nuclear agreement,
12:28Washington announces these illegal and illegitimate measures
12:30against seven entities related to the trade of Iranian oil products.
12:34All this is part of the U.S. strategy to put pressure on Tehran in the middle of the talks.
12:39The State Department has announced that the sanctions target four sellers
12:42and one buyer of Iranian petrochemical products,
12:45as well as a maritime management company,
12:47accused of managing Iran's energy supply.
12:50Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum informed about the agreement to improve the trade balance
13:05between Mexico and the United States,
13:07confirming a call she had with Donald Trump.
13:09The head of state informed that the secretaries of Finance and Treasury,
13:12as well as of Economy and Trade of both countries,
13:15will continue working on alternatives to improve the trade balance
13:18and advance impending issues for mutual benefit.
13:22In this regard, Sheinbaum described the agreement as a good sign to achieve better trade.
13:27The Mexican government stressed that Trump's goal is to reduce the U.S. trade deficit
13:31with the Latin American country and increase imports from the U.S. economy.

14:37The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian areas
14:43reported an alarming 80% increase in the number of children being treated for malnutrition throughout the region.
14:50This escalating crisis is the result of Israel's continued blockade and closure of border crossings,
14:56which significantly hinders the distribution of essential goods.
15:00OSHA reported that 92% of infants aged 6 months to 2 years,
15:04as well as their mothers, do not meet the basic nutritional needs required,
15:08posing serious dangers to their long-term health.
15:11In addition, the report indicated that 65% of their inhabitants of Gaza lack access to safe drinking water,
15:18which further intensifies the already severe humanitarian crisis.
15:22The UNTT warned that the situation in the Gaza Strip has once again reached a critical point,
15:27where people are running out of means to get by,
15:29and the fragile gains made during the brief ceasefire have faded.
15:42And Qatar denounced before the UN's top core that Israel has created a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
15:47On the fourth day of the ICJ hearings on Israel's obligations to the occupied Palestinian territories,
15:53Qatar's ambassador to the Netherlands, Mutlak al-Qahtani,
15:57stressed that rather than ending its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory,
16:01Israel has continued its genocidal war against the Palestinian people
16:05and increased settlement efforts in the occupied West Bank.
16:08Al-Qahtani pointed to Israel's blockade on aid shipments,
16:12its attack on the UN agency, UNWA, and its cuts to basic services in the enclave
16:17as key elements that violate its obligations under international law.

16:57The howling gales, in the strongest in over a decade,
17:00have damaged roofs and downed trees
17:02while massive waves pounded the city capital's coastline,
17:06dumping debris on roads and making driving dangerous.
17:08New Zealand's fire and emergency agencies said it had deployed units
17:12to 93 minor storm-related events
17:15and referred around the full 66 to other entities.
17:18Authorities are urging residents to stay home
17:20and away from doors and windows.
17:22In another topic, thousands of Serbians commemorated Thursday
17:32the train station canopy crash that killed 16 people six months ago.
17:37Residents in the northern city of Novi Sad
17:39left flowers and lit candles outside the central station
17:42where tons of concrete crashed on the people
17:44standing or sitting underneath last November 1st.
17:47The commemoration was part of the Labour Day's protests
17:50where workers' unions joined university students
17:53in the nation's capital, Belgrade,
17:55to demand also changes in the labour and strike laws.
17:58Many Serbians blamed government corruption,
18:01fueling negligence and disrespect of safety,
18:04their regulations as the cause of the tragedy.
18:07On the other hand, President Alexander Wucic
18:09has organized viral rallies to counter street demonstrations
18:12which is considered the biggest ever
18:13anti-government rallies in the country.
18:21I am here today to support my students
18:23and to say that their requests have not been fulfilled.
18:26We are all waiting for the moment
18:28when the requests will be fill-filed
18:29so we can go back to our classes.
18:34I am here to give support to all citizens of Serbia
18:37in the fight for a better Serbia
18:39in which our children will stay and live here
18:42so that it never crosses their minds
18:44to run away from here
18:45because the people who are in power
18:47are incompetent and have no moral integrity.
18:50The Speaker of the Kenyan Parliament,
18:52Moses Masika Wetangula,
18:54confirmed Wednesday the assassination
18:56of Charles Ngondo,
18:58lawmaker of the lower house in Nairobi capital.
19:01In this context, Wetangula regretted
19:03Ngondo's death loss.
19:05Likewise, the leader assured
19:07that the murdered legislature
19:08had received threats to life,
19:10but he did not provide any further details.
19:13Meanwhile, security forces informed
19:15that the crime occurred at 7.30 p.m. local time
