00:00It's the 1st of May and we're going to see the first May bank holiday weekend.
00:05But is the sunshine here to stay or are we going to see some typical English bank holiday weather?
00:11Well what I can tell you is that high pressure is sticking around, this time to the west though, rather than the east
00:17which has brought us the warm spell over this week.
00:20But if we follow our winds round in a clockwise direction it does at times drag in some frontal systems across the north
00:26and also pushes up a frontal system across parts of the south.
00:29So a chance here that we could see some showers, potentially some quite heavy showers on Saturday, maybe even some thunderstorms.
00:36And if we continue to track our winds we can see it brings in this colder air mass later on Saturday and through into Sunday.
00:43So things are set to cool down but high pressure still largely dominating so many areas mostly remaining dry.
00:50But at times once again some frontal systems dragging through across the North Sea.
00:54So perhaps a few more showers as we head into Monday.
00:58But the main theme over the next few days is that is going to be feeling much cooler.
01:02Particularly on Friday where we start to see those temperatures decline.
01:05Particularly across central and eastern areas in some locations.
01:09Some areas could see a good 10 degrees difference if you compare the temperatures to 24 hours earlier.
01:15So Thursday afternoon.
01:16So it is going to be feeling cooler.
01:18So let's start off this weekend's weather then with Saturday.
01:22So a chance we could see some mist and fog, particularly across East Anglia.
01:26And there is going to be more cloud across Scotland.
01:28Some showers feeding through across the very north.
01:31And it's across the southwest where we are going to see more clouds.
01:34Some showers starting to push their way up from the south.
01:36Now these could turn quite heavy, particularly through the course of the day.
01:39And a chance they could turn thundery.
01:41But it should remain to the very far south.
01:44Perhaps even not quite moving inland either.
01:46There is a chance those showers could remain through across the English Channel.
01:49And that's where the thunderstorms could stick around too.
01:51But a chance across the far south we could see some thundery outbreaks.
01:55But any showers across Scotland largely dying away.
01:58And we can see that many areas are still going to see a dry start to the weekend.
02:02Still lots of sunshine around.
02:03And still feeling warm in the sunshine too for many of us.
02:06Across the south, highs still reaching around 20 to 21 degrees.
02:10So still a rather pleasant day ahead.
02:12But notice the temperatures across the northeast of Scotland.
02:15Any north sea coasts widely in the mid to low double digits.
02:19So starting to feel cooler here as we head through Saturday.
02:23Now on Sunday, any frontal systems, particularly this one in the south,
02:28will eventually skirt its way back south, fizzling away.
02:31And still high pressure dominating, still located to the northwest of the country.
02:36So on Sunday, once again, still lots of dry weather around.
02:39But a chance we could see a bit more cloud, particularly in the east.
02:42And a few showers feeding through across the north sea.
02:45So any north sea exposed coasts, a chance we could see the odd shower.
02:49East Anglia as well, in particular, could see more cloud and a few more showers here.
02:53But in the west, still plenty of sunshine.
02:56And the large majority of us will still see a largely dry day.
03:00But take a look at those temperatures.
03:02Markedly different if you compare it to this week.
03:05Still some warm weather.
03:06Highs of 15, 16 degrees across the southwest.
03:09But many areas in the low double digits.
03:11So feeling much cooler, particularly in any exposed spots in the breeze.
03:15So a very different feel for many of us as we head through into Sunday.
03:19Then we have bank holiday weekend.
03:22Still, once again, that high pressure remaining to the northwest.
03:25Still, at times, just dragging in, sweeping in the frontal system across the east.
03:29But it's a largely weakening feature as it moves its way southward.
03:33So once again, just some cloud to start.
03:36Perhaps the odd shower around east Anglia.
03:38Sussex and Kent might pick up a few showers.
03:40And overall, there's just going to be a bit more cloud around.
03:43But many still seeing a dry day ahead.
03:46Still plenty of sunshine across Scotland, parts of northern England.
03:50But still, once again, those slightly cooler temperatures.
03:53Highs only this time reaching around 14 degrees in the south.
03:56A little bit cooler across the north.
03:57Highs of 12 to 13 degrees.
04:00But still lots of dry weather over the weekend.
04:03It's just not going to be feeling quite as warm.
04:05But still many opportunities to get the barbecue out for this bank holiday weekend.
