00:00After a visit to Alaska last week, U.S. Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll talked to Business Insider about his top priorities.
00:06The most important is lethality, a subjective measuring stick for evaluating defense programs and activities.
00:13Driscoll said that if it's not about lethality, quote, we're getting rid of it.
00:16That can mean changes to force structure, training, and even legacy systems that would be vulnerable in a future war.
00:23Lethality is a popular buzzword for U.S. military leaders,
00:25and it's currently at the forefront of U.S. President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegset's vision for the U.S. military.
00:33Driscoll also highlighted soldiers from Alaska's 11th Airborne Division training in Arctic warfare and their work out in the field.
00:39Driscoll told BI he wants soldiers out in the world figuring out what the Army needs.
00:44He said the division's troops, quote, were not focused on things like PowerPoint slides
00:47and how they could deliver better work products to the Pentagon,
00:50but rather, quote, they were out there kind of suffering in the cold on behalf of their nation.
00:55BI has previously visited the 11th Airborne Division to observe how soldiers are adopting weapons, gear, equipment, and aircraft
01:02to low temperatures, constant exposure to the environments, and harsh conditions.
