Creed caught up with Billboard's Tetris Kelly at Stagecoach 2025.
Transcript
00:00Not every day you get to hang with a bunch of legends at Stagecoach.
00:03What's up, Creed? How you guys feeling?
00:05It's happening.
00:06Listen, what's happened is you guys taking the stage at Stagecoach.
00:10And, I mean, everything about the show.
00:12Tori Kelly is awesome.
00:13So how was it to work with her and have her come on the set?
00:16We haven't worked with her yet.
00:17You know, we asked her if she'd like to come out and play with us.
00:20And we're meeting her in about an hour.
00:23Oh, wait.
00:23So you guys don't know this.
00:25I was doing it trying to be like, this is after.
00:27But it's before the performance.
00:29And you guys haven't even rehearsed?
00:31We're going to rehearse at around 9, 9, 9.15 here in the trailer.
00:35That's incredible.
00:36Yeah.
00:36Oh, I mean, that's awesome.
00:37But why did you guys decide, like, Stagecoach was a moment that you guys wanted to experience?
00:42You know, it was something that kind of fell in our mind.
00:46You know, I mean, we got offered to do it and thought it would be something fun to do.
00:51We respect all the artists that are here and just want to be a part of the greater music community.
00:56And we feel like our music kind of connects.
00:59And there's a thread with a lot of these country artists here, especially these younger ones.
01:03You know, when we meet them, you know, guys like Hardy and, you know, Zach Bryan and other guys, they all tell us, we grew up listening to your music.
01:12I love that.
01:12And, you know, so it's cool to be a part of this scene and know that we've influenced some of these artists.
01:18So it's cool.
01:19You're talking about influencing them, but, like, who are some of the artists that you guys look at that are playing Stagecoach, country artists that you enjoy?
01:26Well, Zach, Zach Bryan, I think he's one of my favorites.
01:30Sturgill, you know, Sturgill's amazing.
01:32Sturgill, my wife is here.
01:35She got to see, gosh, everybody today, she said, was great.
01:40I love that you get to bring your family and they're, like, living their best life.
01:43Yeah, they get to come out.
01:44They get to enjoy it while we're preparing for the show, you know, so it's good.
01:48Luke Combs, I'm excited to see Luke Combs.
01:50I mean, what an incredible talent.
01:51What a great voice.
01:52He's amazing.
01:52Yeah.
01:52And, I mean, is there anybody you guys would collaborate with?
01:56Because, you know, honestly, country music has been, like, growing as a genre.
02:00Beyonce opened this door and everybody's ran in.
02:02So is there anybody you guys want to collaborate with?
02:06I'd say the first guy we just mentioned, Zach, would be great, right?
02:08That'd be cool.
02:09You know?
02:10We've been back and forth kind of communicating with Zach for a while now.
02:15And so it seems like an organic thing is happening there.
02:20So stay tuned on that one.
02:21Okay.
02:21Listen, stay tuned.
02:22Billboard exclusive right there we got.
02:24And, I mean, you guys are touring and, like, bringing your music back, seeing your fans.
02:28How has that been?
02:29You guys have added more shows to that.
02:32It's been incredible.
02:35Amazing.
02:35It's an awesome experience for the four of us who have been doing this for a really, really long time
02:41and, you know, gone through phases of being dormant.
02:44But to come back now and see the response that we've gotten,
02:48and not only from fans that were there back in the day,
02:50but from fans that weren't even born yet, you know, back in sort of the heyday of Creed in the late 90s, early 2000s.
02:57And, you know, some of it is parents bringing their kids to the show.
03:02Some of it is just there's been this sort of culture in a lot of colleges lately where Creed is cool.
03:08And we certainly embrace that.
03:11And I've seen a lot of those fans come to the show.
03:13So it's been incredible.
03:15And it's also been awesome for the four of us to, you know, make music together again and get to share the stage.
03:21I obviously see it from the fan perspective, like, you know, singing those songs and looking at you guys.
03:25So how is it for you to perform the songs all these years later and, like, see that reaction from the fans?
03:31Well, I think what's really cool is it's just passed down to another generation.
03:37You know, it's really good parenting.
03:39But, I mean, when you look out and then the first row along the barrier is college kids and even teenagers.
03:47It's like, what is going on right now?
03:49Am I in a time warp?
03:51It's been amazing.
03:52It really has.
03:54Oh, go ahead.
03:55I was going to say, is there a song that means something different to you than when you recorded it or when you, because that was a different time period in your life.
04:03And now you're singing it all these years later.
04:05Is there something that has changed meaning?
04:07You know, I think the depth of the song resonates more because we live more life.
04:14And so, you know, the songs, you know, were inspired at the time and getting into deep, you know, subjects in human emotion and psychology and life and world observations.
04:26But we've lived more life now.
04:28We've had more ups.
04:29We've had more downs.
04:30And so they sink and hit a little harder because we've matured and lived life.
04:35And so I think we've been blessed with some songs that, you know, everyone's telling us are evergreen.
04:40Yeah.
04:40And so we're seeing that now as it's reconnecting with a new generation.
04:46And I think we're even feeling that ourselves when we're performing them.
04:49So we're blessed, man.
04:52Very blessed.
04:52You talk about changing life.
04:53So I got to ask you guys about this.
04:55What has changed about touring and being together as a band all these years later?
05:00Like, has anybody's habits changed?
05:02And you're like, oh, back then this guy used to party, but now he's in the bed on time.
05:09Go ahead.
05:09I was going to say.
05:10You know, we're all older, whether we like it or not.
05:15Hopefully we're wiser.
05:16But most of our conversations now, before and after the show, revolve around injuries and aches and pains and back aches.
05:28We were talking about knee braces before this interview started, just so you guys know.
05:31You know, a different kind of rehab than, you know, 20-something years ago.
05:35Everybody's in there, you know, sort of getting, yeah, physical therapy and stuff like that.
05:39So, I mean, look, we're young at heart, but, you know, we're certainly in the middle phase of our existence, hopefully.
05:48And we're veterans.
05:52We're veterans.
05:53We've done a lot.
05:54We've seen a lot.
05:55And we've all grown from that to be the people that we are today.
05:59Nice.
06:00And before we get out of here, I want to, I don't know where my phone is.
06:03Oh, it's behind me.
06:04I want to play a game with you guys.
06:05It's not a game.
06:07It's just questions.
06:08But I want to see this or that, basically.
06:12You guys talk about, like, who in the group is most like this.
06:16Hold on.
06:16Let me see.
06:16Let me find it.
06:18All right.
06:19Here we go.
06:21So, who out of you guys is most likely to forget a lyric?
06:26Well, there's only one guy who's going to forget it.
06:30This guy.
06:31Well, you should still know.
06:32You should know the lyrics, guys.
06:34Just because you're playing the music, you should still know.
06:36Yeah, that'd be me.
06:37All right.
06:37Who's most likely to not know the city they're in?
06:41I'd say I'm a top contender for that.
06:44Do you remember a time that, like, you said it and the crowd was, like, angry at you?
06:48No, I don't ever address the crowd.
06:50Scott's the guy that does that.
06:52But I have no idea where the hell I'm at.
06:54Ever.
06:55I mean, understandable.
06:56Who's most likely to trip on stage?
07:01I have been known to take a fall.
07:04Back when we had cables that connected our guitars to our amps, that was a real hazard.
07:12But not so much anymore.
07:14I kind of dance around pretty good.
07:17I'll keep an eye on you.
07:18Yeah, we'll wait and see.
07:19Be safe.
07:20Who's most likely to keep the party going after a show?
07:23This guy right here.
07:25That was unanimous.
07:26You're the party guy.
07:28You're welcome.
07:28Without a doubt.
07:29He's been steady for 30 years, babe.
07:32Who's most likely to hit the craft services table?
07:38Who's most likely to go to the craft services table?
07:40I think you, Mark.
07:42Me?
07:43Yeah, you're the...
07:44What's the craft services?
07:45Just the food?
07:46Yeah.
07:48I thought we were talking about painting or something.
07:50Mark's like, hey, you only live once.
07:53Want some of this chocolate chip cookie?
07:54Here's some cake right here.
07:56There you go.
07:57Life.
07:57But look at him.
07:59It's still looking good.
08:00Still looking good.
08:00Listen, I got to hit your gym regimen, okay?
08:03Yeah, I want to know your secret.
08:04And then lastly, who's most likely to get starstruck?
08:07I mean, after all these years, has that even happened?
08:09Yeah, I mean, I get nervous around famous people.
08:12You know, I like to just kind of stick on my own.
08:15If there's famous people around, I'm like, ah, let me go hide over here.
08:18Well, I got to let you know, man, there's a lot of famous people out there tonight.
08:21So don't get nervous.
08:23I'll stay in my trailer.
08:25All right, well, thank you guys so much for hanging out with me.
08:27I really appreciate the conversation.
08:29Of course.
