00:00Hanging out at Stagecoach with my brothers, Brothers Osborne.
00:02How you fellas doing?
00:03What's up, man?
00:04How you doing?
00:05Hey, I'm happy to be here with you guys.
00:07I kind of set you up.
00:08Well, you set yourselves up with your new song, Finish This Drink.
00:11There's drinks on the table.
00:12I'm just saying.
00:13All right, here we go.
00:13You know, cheers to that.
00:15Cheers to that.
00:15Cheers to the new music.
00:16Cheers.
00:18There we go.
00:19Happy Stagecoach.
00:20Jack and Coke?
00:21Yeah, there you go.
00:22Just for you, friend.
00:23Got to keep it classic at an event like this.
00:25That's good.
00:25That's nice.
00:26That's perfect.
00:27Well, tell me about the new song.
00:28Why that was the offering you guys were ready to put out for the crowd?
00:31We just thought it was fun.
00:32It was like, you know, a random, you know, it was kind of an ode to our original sound.
00:37I felt like we kind of, we started somewhere and of course, over the course of several years,
00:41we explored a lot of things and we kind of felt like, let's go back to our roots.
00:45You know, this whole project was really kind of, that's about to come out, you'll hear,
00:49is really inspired by where we came from and our family and our friends and our hometown,
00:53Deal, Maryland.
00:54And that song could not be more like the motto of anyone there.
00:59You know, and so many times I felt like we'd be out at bars with our dad and they'd be
01:02like, dad, we're ready to go home.
01:03And he'd always say, you know, as soon as I finish this drink, the next thing, the bar
01:07is closing, you're still there.
01:08You go home and our mom's pissed.
01:10We were finishing the drink like an hour ago.
01:12Exactly.
01:12But we're still here.
01:13And then you grow up and you're like, wow, that's really easy to do.
01:16You know?
01:16And so we, and then it just was fun.
01:18And we wanted to get back to this music that wasn't, we weren't overthinking it.
01:21We weren't trying to do something that was like, what's country, what's not country,
01:24what's cool, what's not cool.
01:25Like, this is fun.
01:26And we had a great time playing it, so we put it out.
01:28So this will be the first time we're going to perform it tonight.
01:30Oh, I cannot wait to see you guys on stage.
01:32And do you get nervous when like, I mean, you guys have been doing music for so long,
01:35but when you're putting a brand new song out, people haven't heard it, that you haven't
01:38performed it, does that give you butterflies?
01:41You know, I'll be honest with you.
01:42I don't really ever get nervous playing music, but admittedly, I'm actually a little bit
01:49nervous about today's show.
01:50It's kind of a nice feeling.
01:51I haven't had it for as long as I can remember, but I'm also like a planner.
01:55Like, I know we've played these songs for so long.
01:57We're going to go out there, we're going to do it with our eyes closed.
01:59The song that we're playing today, it's the first time we've ever played it together.
02:02I mean, including Soundcheck, we've only played it two times during Soundcheck.
02:06That's it.
02:06So I'm like, and we haven't really been playing a lot of shows at the moment.
02:11There's a lot of unknown variables, but the nerves feel good again.
02:15I kind of like it.
02:16And that means Stagecoach has shown you guys a lot of love because you went from another
02:19stage to now the main stage.
02:20Yes.
02:20So how does it feel to finally be getting love from them to be on the main stage?
02:23You know, it actually is easier playing the big main stage, the small stage, or if you're
02:29like the first act on in the main stage where people are coming in, that's really tough
02:33because you're playing for not that many people.
02:35Well, they're not quite in the mindset yet, but the closer to the headlining slot on
02:39the main stage, I mean, you can go out there and sing karaoke and people will eat it up.
02:42So we do have that on our side.
02:45That is good.
02:45And you were talking about finishing the drink at the bar.
02:48I have a question that made me think of.
02:49Is there a drink you absolutely can't finish?
02:52Like, what's your, like, I hate that cocktail?
02:54I love a drink of almost anything, but I do not like cinnamon-flavored drinks.
02:59So Fireball, the Goldslogger, I won't even mess with it.
03:03I'm like, you cannot get me to take it.
03:04I just refuse.
03:05But I'll take, you know, vodka, tequila, rum, gin, and pretty much all beers I'll drink.
03:13Okay.
03:13I'm not picky.
03:14Whatever you put in my hand, I'll drink it.
03:16Yeah, I'm kind of the same way.
03:17Like, I don't like anything in my whiskey.
03:19I'll do whiskey and Coke.
03:21I'll make it and mix it in a cocktail.
03:22But when it comes to just the whiskey itself, I don't want you to put any of this other stuff
03:26in it.
03:26You're taking whiskey out of my whiskey.
03:28Put some stuff in I don't want.
03:30I want more whiskey in my whiskey.
03:31More whiskey in my whiskey.
03:32That's the next song.
03:33That's the next song.
03:33All right, then we still went on to something.
03:35Yes, we did it.
03:36Cheers to that, guys.
03:37Can't wait for that song.
03:38It's that easy, ladies and gentlemen.
03:39And I mean...
03:40Nashville co-write.
03:41And speaking of co-writing, I mean, you guys are producing your own work this time, which
03:44is really incredible.
03:45So how's that process been to be in the studio and be like, we're doing this ourselves?
03:49I feel like it's the most freedom that we've ever had.
03:51Not that the producers that we've worked with prior have not given us freedom, but you're
03:55kind of stuck on their schedules because they're working with a lot of different bands.
03:59Whereas now, we take our time.
04:01If it takes us one day or a month to finish a song, that's how we're doing it.
04:05And I bought a studio a couple years ago that I put together, and we're doing it all
04:09in there.
04:10So I'm not worried about a studio schedule or anything, and I'll go in my studio with
04:14him, and we'll do vocals or by myself and just play guitars for a couple hours.
04:18It's just pure freedom, and it's the most fun I think I've had making music in a long
04:22time.
04:23And I mean, what would the issue be that you bump heads on?
04:26Is it lyrics?
04:26Is it music?
04:27Like, where's the contingency in the studio?
04:30It can come up just out of nowhere sometimes.
04:32And usually, it's when I'm very sure I want it this way, and he's very sure he wants it
04:38another way.
04:39But I think the thing is that we've had to really learn is just to let, like, just try
04:43it.
04:43You know, like, I mean, that's really a thing even outside of him.
04:46Someone has an idea.
04:48And having the freedom at his studio, we got a lot more time to get in there, try, you
04:53know, just kind of mess around a little bit.
04:55If it gets messed up, then we'll just go back where we were.
04:58And so sometimes, usually, if someone's not willing to even go there, it can be pretty
05:02frustrating.
05:03But I mean, for the most part, at this point, we've really worked out a lot of our quirks,
05:06and we've butt heads occasionally.
05:09But I think so far, so good.
05:12Amazing.
05:12But we're still recording, so we'll see.
05:14All right, man.
05:14You guys got a lot coming up.
05:16We're going to be hanging out again at the ACMs.
05:18We got to talk about how 11 times.
05:20That is crazy.
05:22Duo of the year.
05:23Was that many?
05:2411 times.
05:26The ACMs love you guys.
05:28Oh, yeah, we love them.
05:28So how is it to show up to that award show again in a couple weeks and get that love?
05:31I mean, that's pretty amazing.
05:33I mean, I remember, God, I mean, the first time we were ever nominated, it's like our
05:36phones were just blowing up.
05:38We're like, oh, my God.
05:39I mean, that's pretty crazy.
05:40Has anybody even texted you now that, like, you did it again?
05:42Not as many.
05:43Not as many.
05:44Not as many.
05:45But, you know, there will be a time where, I mean, John and I, we always were aware
05:48that there will be a time where that's not how to come for us, and that's not
05:51lost on us.
05:52And so even though we've had the privilege of being nominated and winning that
05:55award, you know, it still is one of those things that I want to, every year,
06:00really just appreciate what we have, because there will be a time where it will
06:04go away, and then I'll be really, really like, you know, I don't know.
06:07Maybe I'll be at peace with it, but probably not.
06:10Probably not.
06:10You'll go out and piss off.
06:11Probably not.
06:12But, you know, but for now, I think we're just, yeah, I mean, that's amazing.
06:17I didn't even know that.
06:17It's amazing.
06:18I love the nominations.
06:19But we've won some awards.
06:20We had some things, but our focus right now more than anything is the music, and we've
06:24been very fortunate to win some awards, but at this point, we're just like, let's focus
06:29on that, and that's what we're doing.
06:30And I feel like for us, with this new music that we're working on, it really feels like
06:33we're just starting to hit our stride.
06:35And so I'm feeling fired up.
06:37This whole year, we're not doing a lot of touring.
06:39In fact, this is the only, this is like the first real show we've done this year.
06:43Wow.
06:43Big first show.
06:44I know.
06:44So we're, we might mess this all up.
06:46You won't.
06:47You won't mess it up.
06:48I'm like, we're just hitting our stride, and then I go ahead and we bomb and ruin our
06:51career in one night.
06:52But I, but anyhow, you know, I feel like this year has been, we're really trying to invest
06:56in the music and make the music right, give the fans what they've wanted this whole time,
07:00constantly releasing new stuff for them, and just going out there and playing it and
07:04see how it goes.
07:05I mean, at this point, it's just having fun.
07:07Yeah.
07:07Well, before you get out of here, I want to have fun one more time.
07:09We're going to play a little game.
07:10It won't be too hard, guys.
07:12We're just going to do a little bit of a competition between you two to see like which one of you
07:16will do these things, okay?
07:18So.
07:19Wait, would?
07:20Would.
07:20Yes, would, would do these things.
07:21Which one would do them?
07:22So, who's most likely to forget a lyric?
07:27Well, definitely me.
07:28I'm the singer.
07:29Come on.
07:29Come on.
07:30Okay.
07:31Now, who's most likely to forget which city they're in?
07:35Probably both of us.
07:36That would definitely be me.
07:38You just get on stage and you're like, I don't know where I'm at.
07:40We have to have it written on every set list just in case, but I rarely know where I'm at.
07:44Not that each other, but there was one time we were in Portland, Maine, and we've been
07:48on the road for a month and a half at this point.
07:49I was like, what's up, Portland, Oregon?
07:51I got the damn, I was like the complete other end of the country.
07:54Oh, my goodness.
07:55The whole place.
07:55They like booed us off the stage.
07:56So, I was like, all right, we need it on a piece of paper.
07:59Don't do that tonight.
07:59You know where you are.
08:01Stage coach.
08:01All right.
08:02Who's most likely to trip on stage?
08:04Dave.
08:05All right.
08:06I don't move too much.
08:06Who's most likely to keep the party going post-show?
08:09Definitely me.
08:10Definitely me.
08:10Really?
08:11Okay, okay.
08:12It's all you, TJ.
08:13Who's most likely to devour the craft services table?
08:15Definitely me.
08:17What are you looking for?
08:18When you go to the craft services, like, what do you like?
08:20Score!
08:20It just really depends, but like, if there's some sort of, if it's craft services, I like
08:26when craft services cater to the people that are going to be there that eat like an
08:30eight-year-old.
08:31And there's like, you know what I, it's either a granola, like the granola bars, the classic
08:37granola bars with the little chocolate chips in them.
08:39Okay.
08:39Or, this is rare, but when it has, I cannot believe it.
08:43It's the little snap packs with the crackers and the cheese and the little red.
08:47Yes, and the little scooper.
08:49Oh my God, that's old school.
08:50We'll rarely find those at a craft services table, and I'm like, this person gets it.
08:53Wow.
08:54Those are the things we were deprived as children, so yeah.
08:56Now I've got to look for those.
08:57And then lastly, who's the most likely to ask the other one to take a photo of him?
09:01Neither of us.
09:02That's our manager over there.
09:04She gets the photo.
09:05She's always like, guys, you need to post more.
09:06I'm like, what?
09:07I thought we were just playing music.
09:09I love that, man.
09:10Well, thank you guys always for hanging out.
09:12Likewise, thanks for having us.
09:12Have a good show, and I will see you guys again at the ACMs.
