00:00Ladies and gentlemen, from the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, this is Showbox,
00:18the new generation.
00:24Ain't nobody gonna give you nothing for nothing.
00:26You gotta work for what you get.
00:30You gotta get them shots off. Left hook, right hand.
00:32Both hands up, both hands up. Let's go!
00:35Go out there, focus on the job that has to be done.
00:39This is what it takes to be champs, this is what it takes, right here, baby.
00:43Opportunity only knocking once, let's go!
01:00Tonight on Showbox, the new generation. We're at a crossroads near the center of the country, west of Missouri, north of Arkansas, and south of Kansas.
01:11This is the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, less than five miles from the boyhood home of Mickey Mantle, and the site of a boxing doubleheader on Showtime.
01:24Hello again, everybody. I'm Nick Charles, and welcome to Showbox, a new location, but a consistent theme, hungry young fighters willing to take a risk to get noticed.
01:39Undefeated Mike Arnautis was scheduled to make his fifth Showbox appearance in our main event tonight, but a training injury forced him to pull out.
01:47Fight fans shouldn't be disappointed, though, because two unbeaten junior welterweights agreed to a showdown for the chance to seize the spotlight.
01:58Let me bring in my broadcast partner and pal, Steve Farhood, to talk about this main event now.
02:04Steve, what an opportunity for both Americo Santos and Isaac Mendoza.
02:10Nick, it seems like every show we're talking about the junior welterweight division, and why not?
02:15If every Showbox main event were a junior welterweight fight, I'd be happy.
02:19In this division on Showbox, we introduced Ricky Hatton.
02:22We've shown Michael Arnautis, Oscar Diaz, Pauli Malinagi.
02:27It's a long and impressive list.
02:29Tonight, two unbeaten but untested junior welterweights want to join that list.
02:34Now, in the case of Americo Santos, this guy is all action.
02:39If excitement were a barometer by itself, he'd already be at the head of that list.
02:44He throws punches, he throws more punches, and when he's tired, Americo Santos throws a few more punches.
02:50Jabs, not in his boxing vocabulary.
02:53Defense, who needs defense when you're always on the offensive?
02:56This kid is dynamic.
02:58He isn't polished, and he hasn't had any real tests.
03:01But he's in tough tonight.
03:02Let's see how he responds.
03:05Now, Santos is in tough with another undefeated fighter, local product Isaac Mendoza, who's
03:10taking a huge step up in class himself.
03:13Mendoza's been eyeing Santos.
03:15He's sure that his more conventional counterpunching approach is the perfect answer to Santos' all-out attack.
03:22The question, Nick, with Mendoza is the same question we're asking about Santos.
03:25He's been perfect so far, but does he have the class to win when he moves up in class?
03:31Mendoza's moving up tonight, way up.
03:34So, another showdown between unbeaten fighters.
03:38Americo Santos and Isaac Mendoza meet in a 10-round junior welterweight main event later in the hour.
03:45The showbox action from Oklahoma starts with a matchup at super middleweight.
03:54Alan Green against Rocky Smith in a bout scheduled also for 10 rounds.
03:58Alan Green lives and trains just 75 miles west of here in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
04:06He had a solid amateur career and was a national Golden Glove champion at 178 pounds before turning pro two and a half years ago.
04:14Green is 25 and says he's been in the gym since he was two.
04:17He calls himself naturally confrontational and a guy who likes combat.
04:21He has attitude also.
04:23He's tall, has fast hands, good quickness and power, and is coming off a third-round TKO win in February.
04:31Alan Green is 15-0 with 11 knockouts.
04:34What's behind the numbers, Steve?
04:36Well, Nick, there's a numbers edge for Alan Green.
04:39He's not only unbeaten, but he engaged in 61 amateur bouts and won a national Golden Gloves title.
04:44He has a big edge in experience over Smith.
04:46Quality of comp. Green's opponents have won a combined 52% of their bouts compared to 68% for Smith's opponents.
04:54But those numbers are deceiving because Green's opponents have averaged 17 fights while Smith's have averaged only 8 fights.
05:01And dropping down, Green, who's a vegetarian, has fought exclusively as a light heavy.
05:06But he insists he's really a super middleweight, if not a middleweight.
05:09He wants to eventually challenge world titlist Jeff Lacey.
05:12Rocky Smith is 24 and from Muskegon, Michigan.
05:18He's also been a pro two and a half years, but had no amateur experience and started boxing in tough man contests.
05:25He still works full-time as a cook and says while his last fight was eight months ago, he's been training seriously since February for this one.
05:33Smith's won eight straight fights now.
05:35He's a crowd-pleasing brawler who says he can box, but knows he's got to make it an inside fight against a taller Green.
05:42Rocky Smith is 11-2 with nine KOs, Steve.
05:46Take us behind those numbers.
05:47Well, Nick, for Rocky Smith, two good ones.
05:50In 2004, Smith stopped Nick Cook, who was 13-0, and Anwar O'Shanna, who was 23-3.
05:56Those wins are more significant than anything Green's done to date.
06:00Sitting it out, Smith's been off for eight months, and the best sparring he can get in Michigan is with Troy Rowland, a middleweight.
06:07Conversely, Green's been active.
06:08He's been sparring with Antonio Tarver, Glenn Johnson, and James Toney.
06:12Advantage Green, and loser of a loss.
06:15While Smith avenged his KO loss to Jackie Beard, how did he lose to the guy in the first place?
06:20Beard has six losses with five having come by knockout.
06:23We're at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, where Alan Green will put his unbeaten record on the line
06:36against Rocky Smith in a super middleweight bout scheduled for 10 rounds.
06:40Let's go now to ring announcer Jake Gutierrez.
06:44Ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Buffalo Run Casino here in Miami, Oklahoma,
06:51for Showbox, the new generation.
06:55Brought to you by Gary Shaw Productions in association with Tony Holden Productions,
07:00the Buffalo Run Casino, and Showtime.
07:03Tonight's bouts are sanctioned by the Oklahoma Professional Boxing Commission.
07:07Chairman is Mr. Danny Hodge.
07:09And now, fans, we head to the action.
07:11Scoring this first bout will be Bill Marshall, Gary Ritter, and David Sutherland,
07:16all from Oklahoma, and your referee in charge is Gerald Ritter.
07:23Introducing first, he'll be fighting out of the blue corner.
07:26He's wearing the black trunks trimmed in red, and he weighed in at 172 pounds.
07:31His professional record, 11 victories with only two defeats, nine big wins by knockout.
07:37Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, he now lives and fights out of Muskegon, Michigan.
07:43Ladies and gentlemen, here is the Hawaiian Nightmare, Rocky Smith.
07:54And his opponent, fighting out of the red corner.
07:58He's wearing the black trunks trimmed in silver, and he weighed in at 167.5 pounds.
08:03His record as a professional is perfect, with 15 victories, no defeats, 11 wins by knockout.
08:11From Tulsa, Oklahoma, here is Sweetness, Alan Green.
08:19Okay, fighters.
08:39Okay, fighters, you're scheduled for 10 rounds.
08:41I want you to obey my commands.
08:42Protect yourself at all times.
08:44Let's have a good, clean fight.
08:45Keep your punches up.
08:47Touch gloves.
08:48Come out fighting at the bell.
08:49You look at the numbers, Green's taller, but not bigger.
08:54Smith had to lose a pound and a half to make weight, and he enters the ring as much as 13 to 14 pounds heavier than Green.
09:01And the Association of Boxing Commission rules apply here.
09:03No three knockdown, no standing eight.
09:05Can't be saved by the bell in any round, and only the referee can stop the fight.
09:09Our referee, Gerald Ritter, we've seen him before on Showbox.
09:13It's been a while since we've been in Oklahoma.
09:14We are back, and Alan Green undefeated, and the black and silver is out first.
09:19Rocky Smith moving backwards, and Green sinks a jab right to the stomach of Smith.
09:26Smith looks a little tight trying to dial in, and it's Green happy to get off first.
09:31With a jab, then follows with a hook as he's picking the spots.
09:35Lead right there, so he's tried every punch in the book in the first 10 seconds, Stephen.
09:38And I'll tell you what, Rocky Smith says, I adapt.
09:40Well, you know what?
09:41He better be careful, because he may be adapting in the dressing room.
09:44It's a good point.
09:45He just really looks tight, doesn't he?
09:46He looks tight, and he's getting hit, and he's getting backed up.
09:48And if Green comes forward, I don't think Rocky Smith has any chance.
09:52Agreed.
09:55One thing, Smith is definitely the bigger guy.
09:59Bigger guy, and no sweat on him.
10:00He's dry.
10:02He put on about, oh, 10, 11 pounds since coming in heavy at the weigh-in.
10:07Green's a vegetarian.
10:08He doesn't put on much weight.
10:09So, Smith is bigger, but if he's on the outside, that size advantage does not come into play.
10:14Green definitely, from looking at film, seeing at him, he's the faster guy.
10:18He can outbox Rocky Smith.
10:20Smith, with no amateur experience, eats a couple of jabs there.
10:23Green content to just tie him up.
10:26So, Green definitely fighting at his pace.
10:29He's just basically a sparring session right now, because Smith has not dialed into this fight at all.
10:46One time.
10:48See, in terms of experience, these guys are very, very close.
10:51Neither guy has really faced that much quality opposition.
10:54So, very, very similar in terms of experience, except Green does have a much bigger amateur background.
11:01National Golden Gloves champion, as a matter of fact.
11:03There we go.
11:03Well, Steve, with a minute to go in round one, Smith really hasn't thrown a meaningful punch.
11:08But it's not the worst thing in the world to give away a round, I suppose, if you're really trying to figure what your other guy has.
11:14Yeah, exactly.
11:15If he does figure.
11:16You know, his strength is body punching, Smith.
11:18I think there's a rule that if your nickname is Rocky, you have to have a strong body punching attack.
11:24But he's not going to land anything from back here.
11:26Right now, it is Alan Green with the silver stripe having things his way.
11:34Probing with the jab to the body.
11:37Seeing that Smith has been open underneath.
11:39And here comes Smith with a charge.
11:42Trying to make up ground, but not coming in punching.
11:44Being short that time with the jab.
11:54Overhand right.
11:55Break.
11:56Back.
11:58Box.
12:05Let him go.
12:05Stop.
12:06Break.
12:07All the way back.
12:13Time.
12:14That's it.
12:15Well, as we already saw in the first round, Green can get it done from outside.
12:20And he says also in.
12:21But Smith, as Steve mentioned, has to get close to do damage.
12:26His body is so small that I don't think he can make it ten rounds with me pounding on that small body of his.
12:33That's exactly, that's my whole strategy.
12:35All I got to do is pound on that body ten rounds.
12:38The first round, you'll see me coming out with a bunch of stiff jabs.
12:43Keep him on the end of my jab.
12:44Kind of getting him discouraged a little bit.
12:46And if he decides he wants to come in and gamble, it'll be over.
12:50Exactly what he did, huh?
12:53Listen to me.
12:53Hey, he's just looking forward around here.
12:56He's too bad for him to slow.
12:57In and out.
12:59Double up on the jab.
13:00In and out off of him.
13:01Let him make mistakes.
13:02Start capitalizing on him.
13:03Let's go to work, baby.
13:10Exactly what Alan Green's doing.
13:12He's made Rocky Smith taste the jab.
13:13And now, I suppose he's going to try to work off it.
13:17The first mistake Smith makes.
13:18And just looking at the way Rocky Smith's moved so far in round one.
13:21He's prone to make some.
13:24And now it's Green looking for openings and revving up the attack.
13:28And Smith's still retreating where he can't do any damage.
13:31Okay, stop holding now.
13:32Back up.
13:33Back up.
13:34Box.
13:34Well, as that first round progressed, Nick, in the second half of the round,
13:37Smith began throwing a few right hands.
13:39That's either going to get him into the fight
13:40or give Green even more opportunities to counterpunch with that left hook.
13:45Steve, you hit on Green being a vegetarian.
13:48Any credence to what Smith said?
13:49This guy's waist is so small.
13:51You know, he wants to fight at a lighter weight, ideally, Green.
13:54Is he vulnerable when you look at him physically?
13:57Well, you know, how he's going to take body punches,
13:59we don't know that until it happens,
14:01and he hasn't taken many in his career because he's been in soft.
14:04But unless you get close, you know,
14:06it's very, very difficult to launch a body attack from the outside in boxing
14:09just because you're leaving yourself so open.
14:15Smith trying to walk forward, looking awkward,
14:18and trying to figure out Alan Green.
14:21Now it's Green moving into his attack,
14:24and Smith ties him up.
14:26Green so much crisper.
14:28And the one thing about Rocky Smith I noticed on tape,
14:31the times we've seen him,
14:32he needs to get inside, but he doesn't get that low.
14:35You know, I like to see a fighter slip a jab by getting low,
14:37then coming up with a left hook.
14:40He doesn't really bend that much.
14:42He sort of jumps in, you know.
14:43He doesn't seem to really move smoothly in a roll under, as you said.
14:46But his trainer's Kenny Lane, right?
14:50The former lightweight contender.
14:52I'm not going to argue with Kenny Lane.
14:53Kenny Lane started fighting about the time you were born,
14:56and then finished fighting when Hearns and Hagler were going in.
14:59In fact, he turned pro in 53 and quit in 85.
15:06But this guy's a work in progress, Steve.
15:09You know, tough man, Rocky Smith, no amateur experience,
15:12and now just 13 professional fights.
15:18Now he comes to Tulsa, Oklahoma, or near Tulsa, Oklahoma,
15:21to take on the local guy with the glossy record.
15:24Oh, nice combination.
15:26Has Smith rattle that right hand
15:29and then pump that left hook to the body.
15:33Smith hasn't put anything meaningful together.
15:35Just walking in very awkwardly,
15:37almost leading with his face there.
15:46Alan Green just punching when he wants to punch
15:48and moving back and resetting
15:50and reloading when he wants to reload.
15:52You can just see.
15:53You don't have to know anything about boxing or either guy.
15:55Just look at the body language.
15:57Smith doesn't have the flexibility
15:59or the quickness to outbox Green.
16:01It's that simple.
16:02Yeah.
16:03You can see that he's tighter, he's bigger,
16:05he's stronger maybe, but tighter.
16:07Punches don't flow like Green.
16:10Exactly.
16:10And now it's Green trying to stream
16:12some combinations together.
16:14And then with a big shot
16:15just before the bell, left hook.
16:21Rocky Smith knowing he's got to get in this fight,
16:23he better know it.
16:26Listen, listen, Rocky.
16:29You're setting back.
16:30He's showing it.
16:31Yeah, but you're going like this.
16:32They don't do that.
16:32Get them hands in front of you.
16:34Get them hands in front of you.
16:35No, you're all right.
16:36You're getting it.
16:37He's got a little nothing.
16:39He's got to get by his speed.
16:40Let me tell you something.
16:42Don't wait.
16:42Don't wait.
16:43See, fade, fade.
16:45Just fade, fade.
16:46Now throw right first and left.
16:48Just throw one, two, three.
16:49Throw that flack out there.
16:50We don't stand here.
16:51Look at him.
16:52Let him pick on you.
16:53Pick on you.
16:54Don't let him pick on you.
16:55Pick on him first.
16:56Just pick, pick, pick, pick.
16:58In round two,
16:59Alan Green began firing a combination,
17:01something he didn't do.
17:01That was a nice jab, right-hand, hook combination.
17:05And he came underneath with his final punch
17:06in that combination,
17:08and he caught Smith.
17:09Smith's shown a little bravado,
17:10but all green so far, Nick.
17:13Man, Rocky Smith clearly admitting
17:14he's too fast for me at this point.
17:16He heard it, yeah.
17:17Kenny Lane saying,
17:17don't wait,
17:18but is it possible for Smith to be first?
17:20It doesn't look like it to me, Steve,
17:22only if Green chooses to let him.
17:24Well, right now,
17:25he can be first,
17:26but he's going to get counted.
17:28He just saw it.
17:28He jabbed.
17:29Right, he took a punch in return.
17:31So Green allowing Smith to commit.
17:34And it looks like
17:35Alan Green has figured out Rocky Smith,
17:38but he is carrying that left.
17:41Green is dangerously low,
17:42but out of range from Smith,
17:44who continues to sort of plod forward.
17:47Not leaning in now, really.
17:49Head back, but trying to cover up.
17:51Green pokes and probes to the body.
18:03Steve, it's almost like
18:04you're waiting for a big punch.
18:06Well, you know,
18:07Green is a smaller guy.
18:09Maybe, just maybe,
18:10he can bang away
18:11and not hurt Smith for 10 rounds.
18:14If that's the case,
18:14it'll be an interesting study
18:16to see if Green can stay focused
18:17because he's never really been
18:19in that situation before
18:20in a 10-round fight.
18:21Stop, break.
18:23Alan Green's 15-0 with 11 KOs,
18:25but very lightly tested,
18:26as Steve indicated.
18:29And not being tested so far
18:31as we hit the third round
18:33here in Miami, Oklahoma.
18:35Now, Smith with a chance
18:37as Green lays on the ropes.
18:41Why is beyond me?
18:43There's no reason for it.
18:44Green's a much better mover.
18:45That's what I mean by focus, Nick.
18:49Green can get a little sloppy
18:51because when you're dominating a guy,
18:52sometimes, and you have to do it
18:53for 10 rounds,
18:54you can get in bad habits.
18:56He has to stay off the ropes,
18:57stay away from the inside.
18:58Rocky Smith has not hit Alan Green
19:02cleanly once.
19:06Green just jab,
19:08moved to the left,
19:09reset.
19:11He just picked his spots here.
19:14Under no pressure.
19:15Now we see a little blood
19:20on the right side of the nose,
19:21right side of the face
19:22of Rocky Smith.
19:24Probably from eating
19:25all of those jabs.
19:25That's what I was going to say.
19:27He's got swelling
19:27under the eye, too.
19:28Oh, overhand, right hand,
19:30and Smith says,
19:31bring it on,
19:32and it looks like Green may.
19:35Best punch of the fight so far,
19:36that jab,
19:37that overhand right
19:38behind the jab
19:39by Alan Green.
19:40Watch your hand.
19:41Come on.
19:42You get the impression
19:48Rocky Smith is going to
19:49get into this fight,
19:50but unless he's
19:51attacks with more frequency,
19:54the one or two around
19:56where he backs Green
19:57into the ropes
19:58or rucks him up,
19:59that's not going to win
19:59any rounds for him.
20:00He's got to do it
20:00more consistently,
20:01do it more often.
20:03Otherwise,
20:04he's just eating jabs
20:04in the right hand.
20:05He absolutely is.
20:06His movement,
20:06it seems like his eye
20:07is bothering him,
20:08that right eye.
20:09He's been poked so much
20:09with that jab.
20:12Smith, again,
20:13just not able
20:14to get dialed
20:14into this fight at all
20:15because simply
20:17the unvarnished truth
20:18is Green
20:19looks so clearly superior.
20:23You're getting past that jab
20:25a little better,
20:26get them hands higher,
20:27but see,
20:28when you throw the jab,
20:28watch that left hook.
20:30He throws that left hook
20:30and it will cover you.
20:32Throw that jab,
20:33throw one,
20:34two, three, four.
20:35Step in.
20:36Walk, walk him down.
20:38Some water in his head,
20:38Kenny.
20:39He's got,
20:40he's also done
20:42down a little bit.
20:42He's is slowing down.
20:44Rocky,
20:44when you get him
20:44on the ropes,
20:45you've got to dig
20:46that right hand
20:46to the body.
20:47Okay?
20:47He's trying to grab you,
20:48you've got to let go,
20:49okay?
20:50Action from round three.
20:51Green anticipating
20:52that lead right hand.
20:54Good defense.
20:57Really nice defense.
20:58He gets low.
20:59Something I've been
21:00calling Smith to do.
21:01Left hook,
21:02right hand on the eye.
21:04Rocky Smith,
21:05yeah, he's tough.
21:06I don't think that
21:10Rocky Smith was winking
21:11at the referee Ritter there.
21:13I think he's having a problem
21:14with his right eye
21:15as Nick suggested.
21:17Steve,
21:18you know,
21:18I really don't even know
21:19if he's a pressure fighter
21:20at this point.
21:20I just,
21:21as you said at the beginning,
21:23and as we indicated,
21:24Green could get it done
21:25from outside.
21:25He just cannot get
21:26beyond that jab.
21:28But there's no elusive
21:29penetration.
21:30He can't get around the jab.
21:32And now he's trying
21:33to walk down
21:34as Kenny Lane suggested.
21:35All the way back.
21:36Alan Green.
21:36Yeah, well,
21:37you know what?
21:37I think that Rocky Smith
21:39analyzed this fight
21:40better than you and I can,
21:41Nick,
21:41when after the first round
21:42he said to his trainer,
21:44I'm having trouble
21:45with his speed.
21:46You know,
21:46that said it all.
21:48Really did.
21:51And now,
21:52Smith trying to maul
21:54Green and Green saying,
21:55come on.
21:56Sorry we hit you
21:57maybe behind the head there.
21:59Loose ropes.
22:00You know,
22:00these ropes were very loose
22:01when he first came
22:02to the arena.
22:03They did tighten him,
22:04but I don't think
22:04they tightened him enough.
22:07And a little bit
22:08smallish,
22:09the ring.
22:10Shouldn't even be
22:11an issue though
22:11because Green is moving it
22:13and using it
22:13to his advantage.
22:15The only time
22:15he's ever been
22:16in any kind of
22:17jeopardy at all
22:18was when he
22:18elected to hang
22:20on the ropes.
22:21Now it's Green
22:21backing up.
22:24Stop!
22:24Stop!
22:25Let him go!
22:26All the way back.
22:27Green fighting
22:27almost too much
22:28under control
22:29sometimes it seems,
22:30Steve.
22:30It almost seems
22:31I could get
22:32this guy out of here.
22:33You'd like to see
22:34him open up more.
22:35I would.
22:36Well, he's listening
22:37to you right now.
22:41Actually,
22:42he did say
22:42at the meetings,
22:43remember,
22:43feel him out
22:44for about three,
22:45but I really
22:45would like to
22:46get him out of here.
22:47Well, sure he would.
22:48I mean, you know,
22:48it's a move up for him.
22:50Rocky Smith
22:51has a couple
22:51of nice wins
22:52on national TV.
22:53Fights that he
22:54wasn't supposed
22:54to win necessarily.
22:55Very courageous guy.
22:56Yeah.
22:57Green would love
22:57to get rid of him.
22:58But it is
23:00just a difference
23:01in class
23:02and the only way
23:02Smith is going to
23:03erase that difference
23:04in class
23:04is to run Green up.
23:06To do that,
23:07he's got to get inside
23:07and he can't get inside.
23:08So it's a catch-22.
23:10And now Green's
23:11starting to load up
23:11a little more
23:12and that right
23:13comes with even
23:13more force
23:14as he's beginning
23:16to puff up
23:18the face
23:18of Rocky Smith.
23:20Smith just
23:21plodding forward,
23:22plodding.
23:22Now he's cut
23:26the ring off
23:26on Green
23:27but Green just
23:28slips away.
23:32Darrell Ritter
23:33doing a good job,
23:34referee.
23:36Breaking him
23:36and warning him.
23:38Letting fight those.
23:40Now it's Smith
23:41digging to the body.
23:43Trying to rough up.
23:44Watch your hold,
23:45man.
23:46Box.
23:48You think Smith
23:49is under too much
23:50control?
23:50You think he should
23:51be just rough?
23:51I almost thought
23:53both of them
23:53were really.
23:54Green very relaxed
23:55in there
23:56and that's good.
23:56Only through three rounds.
23:57He doesn't have to go in
23:58and try to ice this guy
23:59and as you said,
24:00Steve,
24:00he's not naturally
24:01the bigger guy.
24:02He could still
24:02put on a good
24:03ten rounds.
24:06Smith told us yesterday
24:07that Green really
24:08aggravated him
24:09by making him
24:09lose a pound and a half.
24:10He said he wouldn't
24:11make another fight
24:12to do that.
24:13I don't necessarily
24:13agree with that.
24:14If he's overweight,
24:15he has to lose weight.
24:16Yeah.
24:21Turn on him, man.
24:24Don't let him off.
24:27Good round.
24:28Good ball.
24:28Real good.
24:29You're utilizing
24:29your speed.
24:30Use the jab.
24:31Keep moving.
24:32I don't know
24:32what round we're on.
24:33Four.
24:34Hey, Rev,
24:35can you throw
24:35watch that head?
24:36You're leading
24:37with his head.
24:37Really?
24:38That's why I'm doing that.
24:38I got you.
24:40Keep using your speed.
24:42I can't see
24:43that more on you, man.
24:44He's going to come
24:45rushing in
24:45with his head down
24:46to keep doing that.
24:47Turn him.
24:48Make him go to the ropes.
24:49Don't let him off
24:49the hook
24:50when he gets on the ropes.
24:51Take advantage of it.
24:52Go down and tap
24:53his body, too.
24:54Yeah, but you're
24:55trying to hit
24:55that motherfucker.
24:56That was a beautiful round.
24:57Looking great.
24:58Two, three.
25:01I know he don't.
25:03Yeah.
25:04Give me the mountains.
25:05Walk the mountains.
25:05Give me the mountains.
25:06Yeah.
25:07Yeah.
25:14Look at round five.
25:16We'll have to get underway.
25:16Rocky Smith's got to
25:17get angry, Steve.
25:19Keep punching
25:19and get lucky, maybe.
25:21Good instruction
25:23from Scott Burnett,
25:24Alan Green's trainer.
25:25Trainer of Zahir Rahim also.
25:27He knows something
25:27about how to train
25:28a real good boxer.
25:31Right.
25:31And Kenny Lane,
25:32the other side,
25:32wants Rocky Smith
25:33to go to the body,
25:35which is what he said
25:35he would do.
25:36He wants to break
25:37this guy in two,
25:38really.
25:39Feeling he's
25:39not built that well.
25:42And he could almost
25:43just cut him in two inside.
25:46but we haven't seen
25:47much of anything
25:48from Rocky Smith
25:49now as he eats
25:49another jab.
25:51And it's taken
25:53to the body
25:54by Green.
25:55Green with his left hand
25:56low,
25:57but Smith reluctant
25:57to make a move.
26:02Smith waiting
26:03and waiting
26:03and Green just
26:04probing and
26:05picking his spots
26:07and shots.
26:07solid left hook
26:15from Green.
26:16Yeah,
26:17flush.
26:18Lead hook.
26:18Green mixing his attack
26:19up a little bit.
26:21We've seen good punches
26:22from him, Steve.
26:23We saw that right
26:24behind the jab.
26:25He's, of course,
26:26got that crisp,
26:26as you said,
26:27jab,
26:27really sharper puncher.
26:29Smith waiting,
26:40waiting.
26:52Steve Smith's
26:53really discouraged.
26:54He looks discouraged.
26:57If he attacks,
26:59he gets hit more.
27:00So it becomes
27:01a comfort level
27:01with not attacking.
27:03It's true,
27:03and Green did
27:04indicate that.
27:05Hey,
27:05I want to discourage him.
27:06I could do it
27:06from the outside
27:07if he eats enough jabs.
27:09It'll make him
27:09reluctant to want
27:10to walk into those.
27:12But how can Smith
27:13be more elusive?
27:14Well,
27:15given that he's
27:16slower
27:17and doesn't have
27:18Green's reflexes
27:19or foot speed,
27:20I don't know
27:21how he can.
27:22Really?
27:26He just gets
27:27hit and clips
27:28before he could
27:29react.
27:31And now,
27:31just some wild
27:32swings from
27:32Rocky Smith.
27:35And to Green's
27:36credit, Nick,
27:36he's not cooperating
27:37with the kind of
27:38fight Smith wants
27:38to fight.
27:39On a few occasions
27:40Smith's gotten
27:40close.
27:41Green's either
27:41spun out
27:42or grabbed
27:43and held.
27:44And that's not
27:45always pretty,
27:45but it's smart.
27:47Really is.
27:48And look at the
27:48movement from
27:49Smith.
27:49He'll use the
27:50entire, I should
27:50say, from Green,
27:51using the entire
27:52ring.
27:52Smith with the
27:55desperation uppercut
27:56as he gets
27:56close.
27:57Stop!
27:58Stop!
27:59Turn around.
28:00Box.
28:10More flush
28:11shots from
28:12Alan Green.
28:13It's one every
28:13round.
28:14It's one every
28:15minute.
28:15And fight fans,
28:21be sure to be
28:22watching Saturday,
28:23June 4th, when

28:33night is on
28:34Showtime on the
28:35first Saturday
28:36of every month.
28:39On June 4th,
28:41things heat up
28:41in the blockbuster
28:42fight of the
28:43summer.

28:44Kostia Zhu,
28:45makes his 14th
28:46title defense
28:46when he battles
28:47undefeated body
28:48bruiser, Ricky
28:49Hatton.
28:49It's a battle
28:50that could change
28:50the face of the
28:51division.
28:52Sue vs. Hatton
28:52live Saturday,
28:53June 4th at
28:549 p.m.
28:58It's America's
28:59fight night on
28:59America's number
29:00one boxing
29:01network.
29:01half way home here in
29:23Miami, Oklahoma.
29:24It's Alan Green in the
29:25silver stripe and Rocky
29:26Smith trying to find a clue
29:28to get into this fight
29:31to get into this fight
29:31because he is being swept.
29:32Right, Steve?
29:335-0.
29:36It's really intriguing to
29:38think of Green as a
29:39middleweight.
29:40I mean, we've seen him
29:41on television before as a
29:42light heavy.
29:42Now he's a super middle.
29:43He says he can get down to
29:4560.
29:46And if he fights at 60,
29:47it's 6'2.
29:48With that speed.
29:50Boy, agreed.
29:51Interesting.
29:52Look who he sparred with,
29:53Steve, right?
29:54Oh, yeah.
29:54The very best.
29:55And he claims that he
29:57gets the credit for Roy
29:59Jones losing to Glenn
30:00Johnson and Tony Tarver
30:02because he sparred with
30:03Johnson and Tarver
30:03before both those fights.
30:04Yeah, he was in camp
30:05with each of them six weeks.
30:06So he's a bona fide
30:07light heavyweight in a lot
30:08of ways, but says he would
30:10be very comfortable in
30:11middleweight, which Steve
30:12has said would be a
30:13dangerous proposition.
30:14And look at this mixing
30:15in a right uppercut.
30:17He's shown every punch.
30:19What do you make of the
30:19fact that Green's a
30:20vegetarian?
30:21That's not common for a
30:21boxer.
30:22No, it just doesn't seem
30:23to be a factor.
30:24There's a lot of myths,
30:24I guess, about you still
30:25could get your protein.
30:27Obviously, you don't want
30:28your body fat to go down
30:29to nothing.
30:30And he says he's around
30:31the 5% mark, which
30:32would seem to be enough.
30:33You know, I'm not a
30:34nutritionist, but I would
30:35think you could get your
30:36protein sources from a lot
30:38of things other than meat.
30:40So I don't think diet
30:42would be a factor.
30:43And it certainly doesn't
30:44look like it would drain
30:45him.
30:45He's got 11 chaos.
30:49Punch out, guys!
30:53Smith just absorbing
30:54blows here.
30:55Walking straight in
30:57without firing.
30:58It's just like he's
30:59waiting, but not even
31:01really countering.
31:03He doesn't know
31:03whether to make the play.
31:04He doesn't know whether
31:05to counter.
31:05Exactly.
31:06He has no answers.
31:07And, you know, the
31:08psychological aspect of
31:09this fight is interesting
31:09too, Nick, because
31:10Alan Green's a very
31:11self-assured fighter.
31:13And with reason.
31:15Oh, and Smith gets
31:16driven back first by,
31:18rocked by a couple of
31:19right hands that he just
31:20walked flat into, Steve.
31:23Time!
31:24Al!
31:25Al, turn around.
31:28You all right?
31:29Come here.
31:30Come over here.
31:37There you go, Kevin.
31:38There's two reasons
31:39about coming for him.
31:45There you go.
31:46Okay.
31:48Time in!
31:49Box!
31:50Well, that has to be
31:52a cut high on the
31:53hairline of Rocky
31:53Smith, and that means
31:55it almost definitely
31:56came from a buck.
31:57Boy, but he got
31:58clipped flush a couple
32:00of times.
32:01We're talking now.
32:04Oh, it's a bad cut.
32:06Blood streaming into
32:07the right eye of
32:08Rocky Smith.
32:09And mercifully, if it
32:10looked like Green
32:11should put him out
32:12of his misery, he
32:13absolutely hit him.
32:15And the ABC rules,
32:17if this fight were
32:18stopped, and it indeed
32:19was a butt that
32:20opened that cut,
32:21they would go to
32:21the cards.
32:2220 seconds to go
32:23in this round.
32:25We're in the sixth.
32:27In a fight that
32:28Alan Green, I would
32:29think everybody
32:29would agree, has
32:31pitched a shutout in.
32:36Rocky Smith is
32:37even more desperate
32:38now.
32:39He's tasting his
32:40own blood as well.
32:42His vision blurred
32:43with a stream of
32:44reds.
32:45Accidental headbutt.
32:50Accidental headbutt.
32:51Well, you heard it
32:52from Gerald Ritter.
32:53Accidental headbutt.
32:54Give me him up.
32:54Put down.
32:56Put down.
32:59There it is.
32:59They go to the cards
33:00if this fight is
33:02stopped because of the
33:02cards.
33:04You're losing this fight.
33:05I know.
33:05You're losing it.
33:06You're trying to hit
33:07him too damn hard.
33:08Just poke him, poke
33:09him, poke him, poke.
33:09Don't be swinging at him
33:10like an old lady.
33:11Hey, let him get some
33:12cold out of his cell.
33:14Got it?
33:15All right, guys.
33:16We're gonna knock him
33:16out.
33:17We're gonna knock him
33:18out.
33:18No, don't try to
33:19swing all hard.
33:20Oh, still.
33:22Oh, still.
33:22Deep breaths.
33:23Deep breaths.
33:24We're gonna knock him
33:24out.
33:24I think it's okay
33:25right now, though.
33:26Action from round six.
33:27You'll see Green
33:27striking.
33:30Oh, he just suckered
33:31Rocky into that right
33:33hand.
33:33Really nice move.
33:34Follows it up.
33:36That's the best
33:36moment of the fight
33:37for Green.
33:37Back at Smith
33:38into the ropes.
33:39And that was the
33:40butt.
33:41You see it.
33:44Boom.
33:45Right there.
33:45Green coming in.
33:46Smith bouncing a
33:47little bit off the
33:48ropes.
33:49A butt, a bad cut
33:50on the hairline of
33:50Smith.
33:51If the fight is
33:52stopped, Green
33:52will win by
33:53technical decision.
33:55Rocky Smith can
33:56only hope the fight
33:57is stopped.
33:57He's getting badly
33:58outflashed here,
33:59and he is getting
34:00mauled.
34:02So Green, once
34:03again, now walking
34:04Smith down.
34:06Smith in retreat
34:07against the ropes,
34:08wanting to do
34:09nothing, and
34:10Gerald Ritter's
34:11got to take a
34:11quick look here
34:12to see if Smith
34:13really wants to
34:13fight on.
34:14Stop punching.
34:14Stop punching.
34:16Box.
34:18I'll tell you
34:18one thing,
34:19Rocky's talking
34:19a lot.
34:21And there's the
34:21blood again.
34:23That cut is deep.
34:24All the way back.
34:26Box.
34:27Oh, look at the
34:27left eye swollen
34:28of Rocky Smith as
34:30well.
34:31So he is taking a
34:32systematic beating
34:33there.
34:33And then look at
34:34Alan Green's face.
34:35Unmarked.
34:38Green just
34:39after having his
34:39way against Rocky
34:40Smith who continues
34:41to plot forward
34:42without a clue.
34:43Trying to chase down
34:44Smith and now
34:45digging to the body,
34:47which is what they
34:47wanted from him
34:48from the opening
34:49belt and what he
34:50promised he would
34:50give us.
34:51Don't cut.
34:52Box.
34:52I know a part.
34:54Oh, it's just a
34:55mess now.
35:02Smith absolutely
35:04looking discouraged
35:06here.
35:07He's not had a
35:08single answer for
35:09Alan Green.
35:14And does his face
35:16reveal that?
35:18Oh, boy.
35:18Yeah, it's getting
35:19out painfully red.
35:20Green under control
35:21though.
35:22Doesn't feel the need
35:23to accelerate at
35:24this point.
35:24Stop.
35:25Time.
35:26Go to neutral
35:27corner.
35:27Yeah, we're
35:27going to look.
35:28Come up here.
35:32I want you to
35:33look at this also.
35:36You can't see,
35:37man.
35:37You can't see.
35:38Can't see on his
35:39left eye.
35:40I'm going to call
35:41a fight over.
35:44And it should be,
35:45Steve.
35:46No question about
35:47that.
35:47We're going to go
35:48to the scorecard.
35:49We're going to go
35:50to the scorecard.
35:52We're going to
35:52the scorecard.
35:56Well, that's
35:57interesting.
35:58They're going to
35:58the cards.
35:58That means the
35:59fight was stopped
35:59because of the
36:00cut and not
36:00because of the
36:01swelling over the
36:02other eye.
36:03But it is
36:04academic, Steve.
36:05And it's great.
36:06Hey, man.
36:06You can't knock me out.
36:09That was a headbutt.
36:11Hey, you guys
36:11won't.
36:12That's what it was.
36:14Hey, what the fuck
36:14you got?
36:15Hold on.
36:15You finally
36:16missed the super
36:16middle.
36:16You all right, bro.
36:18You finally missed the
36:18real way, bitch.
36:19It was on a headbutt.
36:20I know that was a headbutt.
36:21I got a little
36:22ugly here.
36:23That was a headbutt.
36:24Allen Greene going after the corner of Rocky Smith.
36:39We're going to the scorecards.
36:41You haven't lost until they make a determination on the scorecards.
36:46Right, it's not a stoppage.
36:50That was a clean headbutt.
36:54We'll put some stitches in there.
36:58Action from round seven.
37:00Actually, that's the end of round six.
37:02That's the butt that opened the cut on the hairline of Rocky Smith.
37:06And you know what?
37:07We'll see you again here with Greene coming in somewhat recklessly, reaching.
37:10You see his hands are going to be low, and he comes in,
37:13and Rocky's bouncing off the ropes.
37:15Boom.
37:16You know, it's actually a break for Smith
37:18that this fight is being called a technical decision
37:21because it easily could have been stopped because of the swelling over his left eye.
37:25And if that was the case, Greene wins technical knockout.
37:32Steve, I don't know what the problem was with Greene.
37:34It looked like he wanted to more or less apologize or say,
37:38hey, it's probably a good call that they stop this thing.
37:41And Smith had words, I don't want to guess on this.
37:44And then it really escalated into something ugly.
37:47Rocky Smith looking pretty bad.
37:52You ever seen a fighter bring a mirror into the ring before, Nick?
37:56I don't see the point unless he wants to shadowbox himself now.
38:00Let's go to the decision, Jake Gutierrez.
38:04This one stopped on cut, so it goes to the cards.
38:07Ladies and gentlemen, on the advice of the ringside position,
38:10referee Gerald Ritter stops this bout at 1 minute 41 seconds at the seventh round.
38:15We go to the scorecards for our decision.
38:20Judge Gary Ritter scores about 70-62.
38:23Judge David Sutherland scores it 70-63.
38:27And Judge Bill Marshall scored this bout 69-64.
38:33All for the winner by unanimous decision,
38:36Sweetness Alley Green!
38:44Steve, the only exception I would have is how could you give a single point?
38:47I don't want to disparage Rocky Smith.
38:49I thought again that the only thing I was clearly disappointed.
38:54He had talked such a big game.
38:55He was so full of confidence.
38:57He talked about how he had finally gotten confidence in himself
39:00and how he was going to bring it to this guy.
39:02And we just never saw any of it.
39:04Well, one of the judges, Gary Marshall, gave Smith one round.
39:07That was generous.
39:08I had a shutout 70-63.
39:10They did score the seventh round.
39:13And it didn't really matter.
39:14If they stopped the fight because of the swelling over Rocky Smith's one eye,
39:18he loses by technical knockout.
39:20This way he loses by technical decision.
39:22Very impressive, Alan Green.
39:24In control the whole way.
39:25Did what he had to do.
39:26Didn't get dragged into a street fight,
39:29which was really Rocky Smith's only chance.
39:32And good for all that this one finished inside the 10-round distance
39:36because Green, as you said, outclassed Smith in every way to move to 16-0.
39:41And coming up next, Ameriko Santos knows one way to fight.
39:47Fast and furious.
39:53Isaac Mendoza is ready to outbox or blast his way to victory.
39:57It's two undefeated junior welterweights.
40:00Ten rounds or less in our main event.
40:04And speaking of explosiveness, look what's happening the first Saturday in June
40:11on Showtime Championship Boxing.
40:13Kostya Zhu brings his awesome punching ability and title belt to the UK
40:18to take on unbeaten power hitter Ricky Hatton.
40:22Al Bernstein has more on this clash of big punchers.
40:25On June 4th, we're looking forward to one of the biggest fights in the 140-pound division in years
40:33as super lightweight King Kostya Zhu travels to Manchester, England,
40:37to face young phenom Ricky Hatton.
40:39I do believe he hasn't got really big experience to fight in the top, top, top level.
40:45Zhu, long considered one of boxing's pound-for-pound best,
40:48recently solidified that reputation with the systematic destruction
40:52of talented former champ Charmbe Mitchell.
40:55Now, this future Hall of Fame boxer will, yet again,
40:59attempt a demolition of one of the division's finest fighters.
41:03Hatton is a ferocious boxer with a relentless body attack.
41:08He'll bring an unblemished record, supreme confidence,
41:11and a legion of raucous fans into this career-defining fight.
41:15I'm going to go and tackle them belts. Believe me, the very first day I turned professional,
41:20I said I was going to be a real world champion, a good world champion.
41:23Have the faith in the Hitman.
41:25So be sure and join us ringside June 4th at 9pm on Showtime Championship Boxing.
41:32Young Lion, Ageless Warrior.
41:36Zhu and Hatton collide in the middle of the night in Manchester,
41:39so we can bring you the action live here in the United States on Showtime.
41:45Boy, I've been waiting.
41:47Zhu and Hatton, Steve, two pressure fighters who can punch,
41:52but they have different ways of attacking in that Zhu wants to measure his guy,
41:56be a little, take his time, and Hatton is fast and furious again.
42:00So, basically, this could come down to who controls the pace, wins the fight.
42:04Well, we know how Ricky Hatton wants to fight. He can only fight one way.
42:07He wants a sizzling pace. He has to get inside to take Zhu out of his rhythm.
42:12The key to the fight, and the reason so many people are picking Zhu,
42:16is because Ricky Hatton presumably will pay a price for coming inside.
42:20Zhu will land that big right hand.
42:22So, I feel that Hatton can make it very difficult and at least uncomfortable for Zhu
42:27by getting inside and staying inside.
42:29How much of a price he pays, we'll see.
42:31Well, we really want to see.
42:32We're going to be in Manchester the night before for a special edition of Showbox
42:36with a title belt on the line, Steve.
42:38Well, WBO featherweight champ Scott Harrison against Michael Brody.
42:42That's a Scott against an Englishman, so it's a civil war.
42:44It's two of the top six or seven featherweights in the world.
42:47They're both aggressive fighters.
42:49It's a can't-miss fight and an interesting and important fight
42:52because Juan Manuel Marquez is pretty much acknowledged as the leader of the featherweight division.
42:56If Harrison can win this, or Brody for that matter,
42:58they'll be right in line for a unification fight.
43:00Well, what a weekend it's going to be in Manchester starting June 3rd
43:04when Showbox doubleheader features WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison
43:08defending his title belt against British rival Michael Brody.
43:11And then Saturday night, June 4th, Kostya Zhu and Ricky Hatton collide
43:16in a heavy artillery battle on Showtime championship boxing.
43:20You won't want to miss a moment when Showtime travels to England in June.
43:25And coming up on pay-per-view next Saturday night, legendary Julio Cesar Chavez.
43:33Along with his undefeated teenage son headline, a four-fight card from Los Angeles.
43:38Then two weeks later, June 11th, Mike Tyson faces Kevin McBride
43:42in a ten-round heavyweight bout from our nation's capital.
43:45Also on the card, Layla Ali and Shambay Mitchell.
43:48And on July 30th, female superstars Christy Martin and Lucia Riker finally meet.
43:54With the winner leaving Las Vegas with a cool million dollars.
43:58Their bout tops the five-fight card from Mandalay Bay.
44:03Meanwhile, Showbox, the new generation, comes to you tonight from the Buffalo Run Casino.
44:11The new generation, comes to you tonight from the Buffalo Run Casino.
