00:00Joe, you're usually right. And being right means you won money. And then you are laughing all the way to the bank. Let's look at the National League MVP race and look at the market watch. And let's have a deep discussion here because right now this is fun. But as a wagerer, I need to be clear. I've got Otani, Carol, Tatis, Kyle Tucker, Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, everything offering me a nice plus money piece. Joe, what would you do here?
00:27Well, the first thing I would do is still remember that Shohei Otani is Shohei Otani. And at some point, he is probably going to pitch if for no other reason, because they're going to need him to pitch. The tricky thing becomes this, Matt. What does that transition look like? Because we've never seen that before.
00:43Normally, when a pitcher is returning, they have to go away and make some rehab starts and all that stuff. So what's he going to do that on his days off from the Dodgers? Are they going to just run like simulated games for him when these rehabs are? How does this work? Because we are completely in uncharted waters with a guy of Otani stature, rehabbing as a pitcher, but being the best hitter in baseball, potentially. So it's a very weird spot. The good news is you're getting three to one on Otani right now.
01:10So if you already bet him and you want to double down, this is a great number to do it. Corbin Carroll plus 400 has been on fire. I still find it hard to believe that he would leapfrog Otani at any point in this process. It's not impossible, but you've already seen the hottest version of Corbin Carroll not be able to do that.
01:28So I would just bear witness to it. The other guy plus 400 is Fernando Tatis Jr., who's also been brilliant. This could be the Fernando year and the narrative becomes if for some reason, the Padres can sustain this level of productivity over the entire season and finish above the Dodgers, who are having some issues, right?
01:48Injury-wise, especially in that rotation. Tatis has a shot because he is a star power kind of player. And it's not a knock on Corbin Carroll. He's a star. He's a stud. He's a fantasy just boon for your lineup.
02:04But Tatis is a little different. And Tatis carries a little bit more cachet. And remember, it's a media award. And the narrative would be the Padres are ahead of the Dodgers winning more games.
02:16So it's Fernando Tatis Jr. that's carrying them over the top. Kyle Tucker also fascinating. I do believe the Cubs are going to fall back and fall back hard because this rotation is not good enough.
02:27And you look at the rotation, and we're going to talk more about that in Prospect Watch. Not only the depth that they have, the reinforcements that are coming in Milwaukee, right?
02:34You're getting Woodruff back soon. You just got Myers back this week. You saw what Logan Henderson's capable of doing. Hopefully, you listened and you picked him up and stashed him.
02:42He was brilliant in his first major league start with eight strikeouts. There's another pitcher coming, not named Jacob Isarowski, that is also really good.
02:49So the Brewers are going to be in this thing. And then you got the Mets, too. So Juan Soto, you haven't even scratched the surface of.
02:54Pete Alonso's had a great April, and Lindor's been tremendous. Lindor at 20-1 is fascinating because Lindor going into last year at the end was getting a lot of MVP buzz, and he is a very well-liked player in a huge market.
03:09So of all these guys, outside of Otani, Tatis and Lindor, I think, are the two most intriguing in terms of wagers, where you can see that 20-1 for Lindor end up being 2 or 3-1 at some point,
03:22and you might be able to cash out of it. But I'd watch that Tatis one, Matt, for sure.
03:26All of a sudden, the National League MVP might not be a foregone conclusion.
