A teenager has been shot dead during a brawl between a group of men at a popular Newcastle beach area. Police are searching for the offender.

00:00A man believed to be aged just 18 years old was shot and killed here in the car park behind me
00:08at Bar Beach in Newcastle late last night. Emergency services were called here at about
00:1311.40pm to reports of a shooting and on arrival they found the man suffering a gunshot wound
00:19to his upper torso. Paramedics did treat him however he died at the scene. Now police say
00:25they believe a group of people were fighting in the car park when an unrelated man driving a white
00:31SUV actually approached the group, got out of the car armed with a rifle, took a shot before getting
00:36back in the car and fleeing the scene. Now that white SUV was later found at Tingara Heights in
00:42Lake Macquarie, burnt out and they have established a second crime scene there. Police have spoken to
00:48the media today to give us a bit more detail. At about midday today they said no arrests or charges
00:53have yet been made. This is a sentence incident. This is an incident the community won't stand for
00:58and I can assure that the community at Newcastle that there are a large number of resources allocated
01:03to this investigation to both identify and bring the offenders to justice and they'll be working
01:08through the weekend on that job. Police have established Strike Force Bulwara to continue
01:13investigations today including homicide detectives that have come down from Sydney to try and get
01:18more answers and of course an arrest and charge here.
