00:04:58And bake and cook for all of you.
00:05:00It was great to hear Kathy's approval of my kitchen because she brought in pictures.
00:05:05She has to make sure I'm a sanitary.
00:05:07So thank you for everything you do around the surrounding communities.
00:05:11You make me, you all make me feel hopeful.
00:05:14Love you.
00:05:15Connie Benkowski.
00:05:17She said, by the way, you're one of the few people to pronounce my name right the last
00:05:21time you read it.
00:05:22I hope you did it.
00:05:23I hope you did it again.
00:05:23I hope you did it again.
00:05:23Yeah.
00:05:24All right.
00:05:25So happy birthday to you.
00:05:26There's your chart.
00:05:27Then there was one.
00:05:28It says, hey, Preston, I was hoping you can send a shout out to my son, Steve.
00:05:33He has a special anniversary.
00:05:35I'm the 19th.
00:05:35Steve's a loyal listener now living in Georgia.
00:05:37A proud father, I couldn't, a prouder father, I couldn't be.
00:05:42Thank you in advance for your consideration.
00:05:45That is from Jeff Bancroft.
00:05:46So here's a shout out to your son.
00:05:48And then this one says, hey, Gadzooks, I've never been one to be on the top of the hip
00:05:56things in life.
00:05:56So I put off watching Cobra Kai and I spent the last couple of years listening to you and
00:06:02the rest of the show go on and on about it.
00:06:04And I finally decided to start watching it.
00:06:05Um, one episode in and I am hooked.
00:06:09Damn you, Preston.
00:06:10And I don't know why I waited so long, nor do I know why I felt compelled to email you
00:06:15about it.
00:06:15But alas, I did.
00:06:16Thank you for having, uh, about this show for, I guess, talking about the show for so
00:06:21long.
00:06:22Uh, your longtime loyal listener, Brent and all my friends call me boats.
00:06:26It is from Mike Hazleton.
00:06:28Uh, he said, I think you deserve a shout out for this.
00:06:30So he must give me a shout out.
00:06:31You got your own shout out.
00:06:32I wanted to mention that real quick.
00:06:33And, breaking news, the YouTube stream is now running.
00:06:38Yeah!
00:06:39We've had issues with the YouTube stream.
00:06:42Uh, Marissa wants to thank the engineers and Newman Media, our official partner of the
00:06:47Preston and Steve YouTube live stream.
00:06:49So that is now up and running.
00:06:51You can tune in and watch to your heart's content, my friend.
00:06:55There was a nice little group of YouTubers out at the parade.
00:06:59Yeah.
00:06:59Right in front of us.
00:07:00And a lot of people watching on YouTube that couldn't make it on Friday, Steve.
00:07:03It was really cool to see how many people tuned in via YouTube on Friday because we were
00:07:08at the parade.
00:07:08Yep.
00:07:09All right.
00:07:09Uh, there are some things on my mind.
00:07:11My mind is a raging torrent.
00:07:14Yeah.
00:07:14Flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
00:07:20The stream of consciousness nerd.
00:07:23Yes.
00:07:24And I'm going to stream right into a YouTube story, which is apropos since we were just
00:07:29talking about our YouTube stream.
00:07:31Um, and if your algorithm feels like it's kind of stuck and you're getting the same
00:07:40stuff over and over again, um, there is a way that you can take control of your algorithm.
00:07:46And I read about this over the weekend and all you have to do is delete everything from
00:07:51your YouTube history.
00:07:52That's it.
00:07:53Okay.
00:07:53Yeah.
00:07:53Um, but there's a few steps you have to take to get there.
00:07:56You'd think it would be easy to do that.
00:07:58Right.
00:07:58Uh, but I saw this article, uh, to get started, you have to head to myactivity.google.com.
00:08:05And from there you can delete everything that you've done on Google products, things that
00:08:10you've searched for websites, you visited in Chrome, the places that you went to on devices
00:08:15with Google maps installed and all of the YouTube videos that you've watched.
00:08:19So let's say you've been looking for undetectable ways to kill someone, right?
00:08:24This is a good way to get rid of that.
00:08:26Yeah.
00:08:26So you can, uh, filter down and see your YouTube videos by clicking YouTube history and then
00:08:31clicking manager history.
00:08:33And from here you can manually delete any videos that you'd rather not have influencing your
00:08:39YouTube algorithm.
00:08:40My, my, um, my YouTube algorithm is pretty good right now.
00:08:44It's, it's, it's giving me a lot of good stuff.
00:08:46I'm watching a lot of drum videos, Preston.
00:08:48Are you?
00:08:48How did that start?
00:08:49Uh, well, I, I downloaded, I, I subscribed to Drumeo to watch the Phil Collins.
00:08:53Oh yeah.
00:08:54And then I, I did the, uh, the Kenny, um, Arnoff.
00:08:56Arnoff, yeah.
00:08:57Uh, he, he broke down, uh, Jack and Diane.
00:09:00Yeah.
00:09:00And I'm like, and so now I'm hooked on that.
00:09:02So I'm being besieged, but it's okay.
00:09:05Uh, anything you delete will stop affecting your YouTube algorithm.
00:09:09There's even a search tool, meaning that you can filter down to only videos that mention
00:09:14particular topics.
00:09:15And this is great.
00:09:16If you want to be surgical about the topics that you don't want to see anymore, uh, you
00:09:20just search for something and delete the videos you're no longer interested in.
00:09:24Now you can also delete absolutely everything thus completely resetting your YouTube algorithm
00:09:30to do this.
00:09:30You click the delete button and then click delete all time.
00:09:34See, you'll be asked to confirm after that, after which all of your YouTube watch history
00:09:39will be deleted, you head back to YouTube and there will be no videos on the homepage.
00:09:45Like nothing will be suggested for you at all.
00:09:47And then you start anew.
00:09:48Yep.
00:09:49And then you have to start-
00:09:49That means I would lose my wingsuit and baby otter videos.
00:09:52You'd have to search those out first and, or your subscriptions will continue to, uh, generate.
00:09:58I really don't.
00:09:59I mean, I, I mean, I do go to YouTube, but it is not a, um, a website that I park myself
00:10:05on where I end up just scrolling.
00:10:07I thought I never would be.
00:10:08And I do, but I, I have a lot of their show.
00:10:11Like I subscribe, I go down YouTube holes and I end up, you know, I might, I'm usually
00:10:16on my television that I'm doing that, you know?
00:10:18Yeah.
00:10:19I, I still go after YouTube case.
00:10:21I can't bring myself the moment that I notice on Instagram.
00:10:25I don't even have, I have Tik TOK, but I never go on it.
00:10:28The moment that I start going, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll.
00:10:32And if I'm doing that for like five minutes, I'm like, what am I doing?
00:10:35And I stop.
00:10:36You don't do that on YouTube.
00:10:38You sit down and you watch the content.
00:10:40Yeah.
00:10:40And so, yeah, I find that I, that's more enjoyable for me.
00:10:43Do you guys have the YouTube app on your TVs at home?
00:10:45Yes.
00:10:46Okay.
00:10:46I use it all the time and I subscribe to so many channels and I watch more and more stuff.
00:10:52I can't even think of like anything that I watch live anymore.
00:10:55Like it's either on a streaming app or on YouTube.
00:10:58The last thing I sat down and made a concerted effort to watch live in real time was the SNL 50th.
00:11:05Yeah.
00:11:05Okay.
00:11:05That's it.
00:11:06That's it for me.
00:11:06And then sports, of course.
00:11:07Yeah.
00:11:08But beyond that, it's, you know, almost exclusively app or, or YouTube.
00:11:11I still, I was saying, Steve and I were talking the other day, I still surf movies because
00:11:15a lot of times I'm like, I want to watch something.
00:11:17What time is it?
00:11:18I'm not committed to two hours to watch a whole thing right now, but if I find something
00:11:24that I know and I've watched it before, I'll jump in and catch it for a little bit while
00:11:29I have a few minutes and then I'll move on to whatever it is I need to do.
00:11:31House of sand and fog.
00:11:32Yeah.
00:11:34That's on cable?
00:11:35Yeah.
00:11:36Okay.
00:11:36Yeah.
00:11:36But when I, when I go on YouTube, I, it's a lot of times to sit down and watch stuff.
00:11:42It's later in the evening when I'm getting ready for bed and then I'll just be like,
00:11:45all right, what's, what's 15 minutes long?
00:11:47Yeah.
00:11:47All right.
00:11:48I'm not going to dive into something big and chunky.
00:11:50You know what I mean?
00:11:50The algorithm does favor that length, you know, 15 to 20 minutes.
00:11:54Yep.
00:11:54Uh, so if you would prefer that your YouTube homepage stay blank, it's possible.
00:12:00You just have to head back to myactivity.com, uh, dot, I'm sorry, myactivity.google.com.
00:12:06And from there you can turn off all YouTube history and, uh, you will stop tracking which
00:12:12videos you've watched going forward and YouTube's homepage will remain blank all the time.
00:12:17Uh, so long as you're logged into your Google account.
00:12:20So that's pretty stark if you want to do that.
00:12:22It sure is.
00:12:23Yeah.
00:12:23Why are you erasing yourself?
00:12:25But it's pretty amazing how quickly you can sway your algorithm on TikTok.
00:12:29For example, you watch one video pertaining to something with any sort of specificity
00:12:34and you're going to be besieged by that topic.
00:12:37Have you ever accidentally gone on to something and you're like, oh no, I didn't mean to do
00:12:42that.
00:12:43And now you're going to get spoon fed that for a while.
00:12:46Yeah.
00:12:47Uh, let me second hand.
00:12:48Let me go to this real quick.
00:12:50I have Barry who has a question.
00:12:51Hi, Barry.
00:12:52You're on the air, buddy.
00:12:53Hi, grandma.
00:12:54Hi, grandma.
00:12:55What's up, man?
00:12:56Hey, I watch a ton of YouTube.
00:12:58It's pretty much all I have at home.
00:13:00You guys notice that when the ads come on, the volume is 30% higher.
00:13:06It blows your speakers out.
00:13:08Yo, ever heard of jerk meat?
00:13:10Yeah.
00:13:10No, they do do that.
00:13:11That's why a couple of years ago, I just went with the premium.
00:13:14I just paid for the commercial free because you're exactly right.
00:13:18And a lot of times if you go, Barry, from video to video, there's not as much of a control
00:13:25over the uniformity of the volume and your ears will get blown out on certain channels.
00:13:29But yeah, it's, I have noticed that.
00:13:32I know a couple of years ago, the FTC came out with something regarding the volume of
00:13:36ads on TV, but it doesn't pertain to YouTube.
00:13:41Yeah.
00:13:42Interesting.
00:13:42All right.
00:13:43Thanks, man.
00:13:43Appreciate it.
00:13:44How much is that subscription, by the way?
00:13:46It's probably about a quarter of a million dollars.
00:13:47It's probably like the other YouTube TV.
00:13:49Yeah.
00:13:49It's been jacked up six times in the last three years.
00:13:54Jeez.
00:13:54And initially it was really affordable.
00:13:57It was actually one of the most affordable, best apps for streaming anything or for being
00:14:01sort of a pseudo cable service.
00:14:03And it's become just as expensive, really, as any other cable streaming service at this
00:14:06point.
00:14:07I'm not subscribed to YouTube TV.
00:14:08I'm just on the premium tier of YouTube.
00:14:11So you pay to not get the ads.
00:14:14Okay.
00:14:15Yeah.
00:14:15And then YouTube TV is another charge.
00:14:18Nick, are you on YouTube?
00:14:19You said you?
00:14:19Okay.
00:14:20No, no, no.
00:14:20Because it's become too expensive.
00:14:22For me, and I was actually having the conversation with my dad over the weekend.
00:14:25He's tired of paying the cable bills, and I get it.
00:14:27Right now, there are so many average to below average options.
00:14:33You got to choose the best of those options.
00:14:35Whatever suits you the best, and they're all relatively expensive.
00:14:39They're all pretty much what cable costs were five, six years ago.
00:14:45And it's what's consistent for you.
00:14:48And really, how you like watching television.
00:14:51I've gotten to the point now where, for the most part, live TV doesn't matter that much
00:14:54to me anymore.
00:14:54So I'm fine with the streaming services and paying for those apps.
00:14:57But whatever suits you best.
00:14:59And if you have, for example, Xfinity or Comcast, you might like the bundle.
00:15:05If you're going to get the cable and the internet service, and maybe even the phone on top of
00:15:09it really just depends on what your needs are.
00:15:11And it's kind of how they pay for a snuff film channel out of Ecuador, and they include
00:15:156ABC.
00:15:16Oh, that's weird.
00:15:17Which is so weird.
00:15:17Okay.
00:15:18So if you want to delete your YouTube history, you can do it and reset your algorithm.
00:15:23But you have to go to myactivity.google.com, and that's where you do that.
00:15:28All right.
00:15:29There's another thing.
00:15:30The Stream of Consciousness Nerds.
00:15:33Nick sent me this.
00:15:35This is quite interesting.
00:15:37Legoland Discovery Center, Philadelphia, that's the one in Plymouth Meeting, is searching
00:15:42for their next master model builder and wants to pay someone to play with Lego bricks.
00:15:49Okay.
00:15:49It's the dream job of a lifetime, and their office will be in the heart of the ultimate
00:15:54indoor Lego playground in Plymouth Meeting.
00:15:57So top applicants will be invited to compete in their Brick Factor 2025, which is a live
00:16:05competition.
00:16:06It's coming up on March 22nd, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside the attraction.
00:16:13And participants will execute timed builds, freestyle builds, assigned builds, and multiple interviews
00:16:22all while interacting and engaging with kids.
00:16:25So I know far more adults that are into Lego and Lego building, and you guys have all said
00:16:34you enjoy it, right?
00:16:35It's fun.
00:16:36So it's a puzzle, but of course the end result could be...
00:16:40I've said that I'm thinking of getting the Titanic one, because it looks like it'd be pretty
00:16:45amazing.
00:16:45Yeah.
00:16:46So that Will Ferrell show, that competition, is that still on?
00:16:50The Lego, Master of Lego or whatever that is?
00:16:52It wasn't Will Ferrell.
00:16:53I mean, Will, um...
00:16:55Arnett.
00:16:56Arnett, yeah.
00:16:57I don't know if it's still on or not.
00:16:58It's like a Zen thing to do.
00:17:00It takes your mind off of everything else that's going on, and you can just disconnect
00:17:03for a little bit and focus on what's in front of you.
00:17:05Yeah.
00:17:05Yep.
00:17:06We do a lot of Legos at our house still.
00:17:08I have adult children, and we still build Legos together.
00:17:12Something to be said for that.
00:17:13I always see them at Costco.
00:17:15They always have these special editions, and I look at them.
00:17:18I'm like, that looks like that could be fun, but no.
00:17:21I've never gotten into Lego, and I'm definitely not a freeform Lego guy.
00:17:25Oh, I'm not a freeform guy.
00:17:27Forget it.
00:17:27I have zero creativity.
00:17:29I can make you a set of stairs.
00:17:31Yeah.
00:17:32You know?
00:17:32Oh, yeah.
00:17:33Pretty good.
00:17:33I'm really good at a colorful wall.
00:17:35I could do like a pseudo-looking front of a castle thing, and that's about it.
00:17:41But the ones, Casey, though, the kits that you get, I mean, they're very detailed directions.
00:17:48I've done those.
00:17:48And it's fun watching it come together.
00:17:50Right.
00:17:50Watching someone else put it together.
00:17:52No.
00:17:53I mean, I like doing it.
00:17:54But so, how do you, from this press release, Nick, I didn't quite see exactly how you get
00:18:02signed up for it.
00:18:03So, you have to reach out to Legoland, Discovery Center, Philadelphia, and Plymouth Meeting.
00:18:07So, the old master passed away or moved on?
00:18:11Yeah.
00:18:11I don't know, Steve.
00:18:12Are they expanding?
00:18:13I'm not really sure.
00:18:14But it's their next master model builder, and it's going to be Saturday, March 22nd, 10 to
00:18:223.
00:18:23We need to know master.
00:18:25In Plymouth Meeting.
00:18:26So, look into that if that's your thing.
00:18:29Yeah, it's called Merlin Careers, like Merlin, like the wizard.
00:18:32So, Google search Merlin, and then Lego, and Discovery Center, Philadelphia.
00:18:36Do you have the ability, will you be our master, always within walking distance of Popeyes?
00:18:48Apparently, there are several steps you have to take to master that.
00:18:52It's on the second floor.
00:18:53All right.
00:18:55Here's another thing.
00:18:57Do I need a new segment called And Another Thing?
00:18:59Yeah, you do.
00:19:00This is the second another thing that you've done.
00:19:02I know.
00:19:02This is a sub-segment of the stream of consciousness there.
00:19:06Well, eventually, we'll come up with a good sound effect and piece of music to do And Another Thing.
00:19:11Yeah, we had something.
00:19:12Yeah.
00:19:13Really?
00:19:13We do.
00:19:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:19:14So, this was from Ice Cube.
00:19:16Oh, yeah, And Another Thing.
00:19:19Yeah.
00:19:20I didn't even know we did that.
00:19:22All right.
00:19:22As soon as we come up with some good music for that, then we'll make it an official Another Thing.
00:19:26And we're just calling it Another Thing.
00:19:28You're not the And Another Thing-er.
00:19:29No, no, it's just And Another Thing.
00:19:32So, I thought this would be nice.
00:19:34We're in the middle of this horrible, cold weather.
00:19:39You know, it's not a vortex, but whatever this-
00:19:43It's a sub-text.
00:19:44...thing that's going on across the country.
00:19:47I thought it might be nice to talk about beaches for a moment.
00:19:50Yes.
00:19:51Just to get us in another frame of mind.
00:19:53Trip Advisors, Traveler Choice Awards for the best beaches of 2025 have now come out.
00:19:59So, they are chosen based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings for the beaches
00:20:08from real travelers who have been there.
00:20:11And this year's list includes beaches on six continents and in 50 countries.
00:20:16So, they've broken it down to the top 10 beaches in the world and the top 10 beaches in the U.S.
00:20:22Okay.
00:20:23So, we'll start in the U.S. because I think that-
00:20:25There's a lot more likely to go to.
00:20:26We'll feel a little more connected and there's some that we probably-
00:20:29I know there's one in particular that we have all been to before.
00:20:32But number one on this list, the top beach in the United States is Siesta Beach in Siesta
00:20:38Key, Florida.
00:20:39I keep hearing about this place.
00:20:41Yeah.
00:20:41It's not too far from where we go in Clearwater, is it, Nick?
00:20:45I don't think so, no.
00:20:45No, it's not too far.
00:20:47It's a little bit of a drive.
00:20:48My friend lives there and was like, you have to come vacation.
00:20:52You have, this is where you have to go next time you go.
00:20:54So, is there a surf there or is it a more-
00:20:58It's like, I think there's like almost, I think they call it like the circle or something
00:21:03like that.
00:21:04So, it's like a little town where there's bars and restaurants, you know, obviously a beach
00:21:08and all of that.
00:21:10But yeah, she said it's, they love the going there.
00:21:12So, they, so she doesn't live inside Siesta Key, she lives just outside.
00:21:16Okay.
00:21:16It's south of St. Pete.
00:21:18Yeah.
00:21:18It's right near Sarasota.
00:21:20Yeah.
00:21:20All right.
00:21:20Hang on.
00:21:20Clown, former clown college.
00:21:22You know what?
00:21:22I might, I might have been there.
00:21:24I'm going on a golf trip down that way in the spring.
00:21:29I think we might be right down there by Siesta Key.
00:21:32That would be cool.
00:21:32I think I've been there.
00:21:33Okay.
00:21:33Yeah.
00:21:34This looks very familiar, the video we're looking at.
00:21:36Nice.
00:21:36And it was a lovely beach.
00:21:37It was, it definitely had a, you want to get there around evening time.
00:21:41So, it's sunsetting.
00:21:42Considered the number one beach in America.
00:21:47It's very nice.
00:21:47I'm not seeing anything that ultra blows me away about it.
00:21:51Number two on this list I've been to.
00:21:53It's Poipu Beach in, Beach Park in Hawaii.
00:21:56It's on Kauai.
00:21:57I almost feel like Hawaii beaches should be, have their own category.
00:22:01Probably, man.
00:22:01You picked the best beach in Hawaii.
00:22:03The ones, the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to have all been in Hawaii.
00:22:08This being one of them, we took surf lessons there.
00:22:10It was a lot of fun.
00:22:11Uh, and then, uh, they have kind of a poly beach that's in Maui.
00:22:15I've been there before.
00:22:17And that's, that's cool.
00:22:18It's, it's a lot.
00:22:19There, there are resorts there.
00:22:20Yes.
00:22:21Yeah.
00:22:21So, it's one of those type of beaches.
00:22:23Um, so that's really pretty.
00:22:26Uh, La Jolla Cove in La Jolla, California is number four.
00:22:29Cock-a-pee-pee-poo-poo?
00:22:31Uh, nope.
00:22:32Not that I know of.
00:22:33Uh, Wauke-Kee Beach, Oahu.
00:22:35Been there before.
00:22:36Yes.
00:22:36That's number five on the list.
00:22:38Which I, when I was there, I felt, uh.
00:22:40It's packed.
00:22:41But, but I felt like weird that, that you were, there was this beautiful beach in front of you
00:22:45and then like a city behind you.
00:22:46The city right, right behind you.
00:22:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:22:48But it's a cool city.
00:22:49It's cool.
00:22:50And then you look over, you see Diamond Head.
00:22:51Diamond Head is right, right there.
00:22:53It looks so awesome.
00:22:55And then, listen to this.
00:22:56Number six on the list, Clearwater Beach in Clearwater, Florida.
00:23:01Wow.
00:23:01Well, shut the front door.
00:23:02Is that the same beach that our hotel is on?
00:23:05No, we're on Sand Key.
00:23:07So, we are just south of Clearwater Beach.
00:23:09I mean, it's, it's walking distance.
00:23:11It's basically the same thing.
00:23:12Actually, Clearwater's come around, man.
00:23:15Yeah, I don't like the beach, though.
00:23:16You don't?
00:23:16It's too shelly.
00:23:18It's too shelly?
00:23:19Yeah, it's not sandy enough.
00:23:21It's, there's a lot of like broken.
00:23:23I mean, I don't mind the wide part.
00:23:25It's the broken shells I don't like walking on.
00:23:27They cut your tootsies?
00:23:28They cut your tootsies.
00:23:29I've never walked, when we've been there, I've never walked all the way down to the,
00:23:33to the water.
00:23:34You haven't?
00:23:35I've walked down to Kathy sitting on a lounge chair.
00:23:38No, you get a, you hop on a golf cart.
00:23:40That's as far as I've made it, Kathy.
00:23:42Which was basically just like a step away from the pool on the sand.
00:23:47Looked nice to me.
00:23:48I walked the length of it.
00:23:50I walked all the way, almost to like an Indian Rocks beach, just because of how pretty I
00:23:54find it to be.
00:23:54I really enjoy it.
00:23:55The water's nice.
00:23:57By the way, people who are asking, we are back in Clearwater this year.
00:24:00I know it's like not officially official or whatever, but we're flying on the 12th, the
00:24:03broadcasting from the ballpark on the 13th.
00:24:06And then we'll be at Cocos in Clearwater Beach on March 14th, the Friday.
00:24:09Cocos.
00:24:10Yeah.
00:24:10Man.
00:24:10Less than a month.
00:24:11Oh my God.
00:24:12How about that?
00:24:14I didn't even think, I was thinking about the things that we have coming up after, you
00:24:17know, the parade and all the stuff we had in BirdBot and everything that we've been working
00:24:20on.
00:24:20I haven't done enough.
00:24:21I was like, okay, we've got, we have Cardboard Classic and then we have a nice break for a
00:24:25week.
00:24:25Yeah.
00:24:25A nice couple of weeks.
00:24:26No, we don't.
00:24:27Yeah.
00:24:27We don't.
00:24:28Well, I mean, these are good.
00:24:29That's a nice break.
00:24:29These are good things.
00:24:30Yeah, yeah.
00:24:31But there's a lot of work involved.
00:24:33Clearwater's work, but it's my favorite work of the year.
00:24:35I love that broadcast so much and, um, the, you know, being at the ballpark and just quite
00:24:40honestly getting out of Pennsylvania that time of year is such a relief and such, you
00:24:45know, something to look forward to.
00:24:46Uh, yeah.
00:24:46So Thursday the 13th, we're at the ballpark and then Friday the 14th at the Clearwater Beach.
00:24:50Nick, when you walked from, uh, Sankey down to Indian Rocks, how long did that take?
00:24:55A few hours.
00:24:56Okay.
00:24:56But, um, we're lucky enough to stay in a beautiful place and, uh, yeah, it's just, it's a really
00:25:01nice long walk.
00:25:02I enjoy it a lot.
00:25:02Okay.
00:25:03Uh, the top 10 beaches in the U.S., number seven on this list is Driftwood Beach in Jekyll
00:25:07Island, Georgia.
00:25:09Jekyll Island?
00:25:09Never been there.
00:25:10No.
00:25:11Uh, number eight is, uh, Puna Alu'u Black Sand Beach.
00:25:16Here we go again.
00:25:16And Pahala, uh, Pahala, Hawaii.
00:25:19I'm not sure which, um, island that's on.
00:25:21Is that Maui?
00:25:22I don't know, Steve.
00:25:24Um, yeah.
00:25:26The famous, you know, the, the volcanic ash beach is.
00:25:29Oh, the sand, uh, the black sand is usually on, uh, Kauai.
00:25:33Maybe it's Kauai, yeah.
00:25:34Might be the big island.
00:25:35Might be on Hawaii.
00:25:36Uh, Nick, it's spelled P-U-N-A-L-U.
00:25:42Um.
00:25:43The rest.
00:25:44No.
00:25:45Um.
00:25:45It's on Oahu.
00:25:46Apostrophe U.
00:25:47It's on Oahu?
00:25:47It's on Oahu.
00:25:48Oh, wow.
00:25:49Okay.
00:25:50Uh, then you have, uh, number nine is Bahia Honda State Park in Big Pine Key, Florida.
00:25:56Oh, yeah.
00:25:56That's cool.
00:25:56Uh, you can see manatees there.
00:25:58Okay.
00:25:58Yeah, it's, uh, sort of in between, like, Marathon and Key West.
00:26:02Uh, so if you're driving the length of the Keys, which is a fun drive, um, more than,
00:26:07like, probably about two-thirds of the way from Miami to Key West.
00:26:09Beautiful.
00:26:09And there are a lot of, uh, underwater, uh, there are a lot of, um, super crystal clear,
00:26:14uh, lagoons and things in that area.
00:26:16I love that.
00:26:16Uh, my wife has, uh, has gone swimming with the manatee.
00:26:19You cannot touch the manatee.
00:26:21However, legally, they can have sex with you.
00:26:24Oh.
00:26:25You just, you have to allow them to.
00:26:27But, uh, yeah, you can't touch them.
00:26:29Oh, the huge manatees.
00:26:30Yes.
00:26:30Wait, I, uh, I was mistaken.
00:26:32The, that beach in Hawaii is on the Big Island, and Steve, it is one with the black sand.
00:26:36It's on the Big Island.
00:26:37Okay.
00:26:38And then the last one is, uh, Ho'okipa Beach Park in Maui, Hawaii.
00:26:44So, yeah, it's all Hawaii.
00:26:46It needs to be.
00:26:47Have your own category, and that's fine.
00:26:49You guys win.
00:26:50Yeah.
00:26:50Um, now eat me.
00:26:51Yeah.
00:26:52Uh, the top in the world, and I'll go through these quickly, because I doubt we've been
00:26:55to any of these.
00:26:56Um, uh, Elifanisi Beach in Crete.
00:27:00Crete.
00:27:00Greece.
00:27:01Uh, Banana Beach in, uh, Phuket, Thailand, uh, which is where the White Lotus is being shot
00:27:07in, in, in Thailand, or this is being set, has been set in this last episode.
00:27:12Last.
00:27:13Good Lord.
00:27:14Season.
00:27:15This season.
00:27:15Uh, Eagle Beach in, uh, Aruba.
00:27:17Uh, Siesta Beach, as I mentioned, is number one in the U.S., is number four on the world
00:27:26list, and then number five is in, uh, Portugal.
00:27:30I'll tell you one of the-
00:27:31Aria de Felicia.
00:27:33One of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to, and it's usually in the top ten of
00:27:37beaches around the world, is Elbow Beach in Bermuda, where the, I kid you not, the sand
00:27:41on that beach is like flour that you cook with.
00:27:45It is that, if you're not into the shelliness, this is unshellied.
00:27:49Well, let me go to Danny, because he wanted to point something out like that.
00:27:52Hi, Danny.
00:27:52Good morning.
00:27:53Hey, good morning, It.
00:27:55Good morning to see you.
00:27:56Danny, what's going on, brother?
00:27:57I'm doing all right, sir.
00:27:58Casey.
00:27:59Yes.
00:28:00Specifically, you had some concerns about the shells on the beach.
00:28:04Siesta Key, bud.
00:28:05I tell you, when you walk on that beach, it could be 95 degrees outside.
00:28:09It's like walking on cold talcum powder.
00:28:11Wow.
00:28:13Amazing.
00:28:14I lived in Sarasota for six years growing up as a kid.
00:28:16The best beach you could ever want to go to in your life.
00:28:20Is that sand or just bales of cocaine that have split apart?
00:28:23You know, I always wondered if it kind of washed up from Cuba, but it makes the day perfect.
00:28:28All right.
00:28:29Okay.
00:28:29I'm so happy.
00:28:30So super soft sand.
00:28:33It's like cold talcum powder.
00:28:35It's nothing like burning your feet at the Jersey Shore.
00:28:38That's for dang sure.
00:28:39All right.
00:28:39Cool.
00:28:40Thanks, man.
00:28:40Appreciate it, bud.
00:28:41There was one beach.
00:28:42We were in Florida.
00:28:43It might have been Flagler Beach, where it was so goddamn hot.
00:28:47The sand was unbelievably, I was to the verge of crying.
00:28:51You know what I think of every time I hear the words Flagler Beach?
00:28:54Me seeing my grandmother's knockers, because that's where she lives.
00:28:58Oh.
00:28:59And I relive that every time.
00:29:00Well, I was going to share a story about hot sand, not your grandmother's knockers.
00:29:04We were-
00:29:05I have a picture of you.
00:29:05We were on the North Shore of Oahu, and the beach was just so hot.
00:29:11It was ridiculous.
00:29:11And we had found a spot in the shade amongst the trees, and we had walked all the way down
00:29:18to the water, and the whole way, you're there like, oh, my God.
00:29:20Oh, my God.
00:29:20Oh, God.
00:29:21God, God, God, God.
00:29:21And you're running.
00:29:22And then we get to the- you get to the water, and then there's coral.
00:29:25Yeah, yeah.
00:29:26And it's like, oh, my God, I can't stand on that.
00:29:28It was horrible.
00:29:29So we eventually made our way to the shade, and we saw this couple come walking up.
00:29:34And there was plenty of people on the beach and everything.
00:29:36Saw this couple come walking up.
00:29:38He didn't have sandals on.
00:29:39Oh, man.
00:29:39And I told him, I go, hey, just to let you know, the sand is really, really, really hot,
00:29:46and it's a long walk to the water.
00:29:47Just wanted to give you a heads up.
00:29:48Oh, okay.
00:29:49And they kept going.
00:29:50And I'm like, Shell, let's watch this.
00:29:53Watch this.
00:29:54Let's take this in.
00:29:55And sure enough, dude, by the time they got like 20 yards from the water, they were sprinting.
00:30:02At what point-
00:30:02Sprinting.
00:30:03Did they look like Aunt Beru outside the-
00:30:06Just fried, completely burnt to a crisp.
00:30:09But it's kind of funny when you've given fair warning.
00:30:12I warned you.
00:30:13And watch someone else do it.
00:30:15There's only so much you can do.
00:30:17Hang on a second here.
00:30:18Kirsten wants a comment on Jekyll Beach.
00:30:20That was in Georgia, I believe, right?
00:30:22Yeah.
00:30:22Hi, Kirsten.
00:30:23Good morning.
00:30:24Hi.
00:30:24Good morning.
00:30:25Tornado.
00:30:27Tornado.
00:30:27What's happening, Kirsten?
00:30:29So I actually, well, I'm surprised Jupiter, Florida wasn't on that list of beaches because
00:30:35it's one of the most beautiful.
00:30:37However, on our way to our wedding, we stopped at Jekyll Island.
00:30:40And when I tell you this place is otherworldly, there's nothing I've ever seen like it.
00:30:46So it's miles and miles, as far as you can see, of these dead trees almost that are like
00:30:52growing out of the sand and that come up ashore, but it just looks like you're on another planet.
00:30:58So it looks like another, but would you call it beautiful, the dead trees?
00:31:02Yeah.
00:31:02Really?
00:31:02Like, if you actually Google it, it'll kind of give you an idea, but the sun, we actually went for sunrise.
00:31:08Oh.
00:31:08And it was probably the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen.
00:31:11Yeah, we're looking at a video of this, and it looks like just tons of driftwood that is, I mean, like,
00:31:17large pieces of driftwood.
00:31:19So these trees are actually, like, massive.
00:31:20When I'm saying, like, you can climb up them.
00:31:22Wow.
00:31:22I mean, the pictures are absolutely beautiful.
00:31:24It seems like the perfect place to go get impaled.
00:31:27Yeah.
00:31:27I don't know about swimming, necessarily.
00:31:30I'm sure you could.
00:31:31Yeah, that's really cool.
00:31:32They do have, like, trails, but the island itself is very interesting.
00:31:36You actually drive over some bays, and then as you get in, you can rent golf carts to kind of go to and fro,
00:31:43whether it's, like, your own villa or hotel.
00:31:45Kirsten, can I ask, did they let you know how, I mean, because these are sizable, full trees that are on the beach.
00:31:52How, I mean, how do they get there?
00:31:54I mean, because there's, are they growing, do they grow out of the sand that way?
00:31:58Are they?
00:31:58So I have no idea if they're just washing ashore.
00:32:01I think they're growing out of the sand, because there was not really a park ranger or anybody that I could speak to,
00:32:05because you really kind of just explore yourself around the area.
00:32:09Okay.
00:32:10It does seem that they're growing out, I guess, be the salt water petrifies them?
00:32:14Yeah, I guess so.
00:32:16I mean, it's actually, I have no idea.
00:32:19Yeah.
00:32:19It's not like another planet.
00:32:20That's pretty, it does look otherworldly.
00:32:22That's pretty amazing.
00:32:23So it's really neat.
00:32:24But they have like restaurants and bars and shopping kind of within the, within the town area.
00:32:30Okay.
00:32:30And you can kind of, it's a great area for families too.
00:32:33I know they have some regular beaches, patches without the trees.
00:32:37Yeah.
00:32:37Without the dead trees.
00:32:38Yeah.
00:32:39But I think that you really just go for the experience of what it's like.
00:32:43I've never seen anything like it.
00:32:44Wow.
00:32:44Nice.
00:32:45All right.
00:32:45Thank you, Kirsten.
00:32:46We appreciate confirmation.
00:32:47Confirmation.
00:32:48Go birds.
00:32:48Go birds.
00:32:49Yeah.
00:32:50This video looks really interesting.
00:32:52Let me go to another call and we'll move on to something else.
00:32:54I have Sean.
00:32:55Hi, Sean.
00:32:56Morning, bud.
00:32:58Hey, how you doing?
00:32:58Hey, I'm just concerned.
00:32:59I don't think your list is accurate because I'm pretty sure that Sea Isle City Beach is
00:33:03the best one on the planet ever.
00:33:05Sea Isle City is the best one on the planet ever.
00:33:08Your favorite beach.
00:33:09Well, I mean, I've been to Ocean City, Maryland.
00:33:11I've been to Ocean City, New Jersey.
00:33:13And then Sea Isle City, the best.
00:33:15All right.
00:33:16So those are the only three beaches you've been to?
00:33:19As a kid, I went to one down in Florida when we went to Disney, but I don't remember the
00:33:22name of the beach.
00:33:23And that was all Shelly and Sandy and, yeah.
00:33:24Is he too many shells?
00:33:25Yeah.
00:33:25So, I mean, he's had experiences.
00:33:27I think we can trust him.
00:33:29He's been from New Jersey to one part of Florida.
00:33:31It's nice, Sean.
00:33:32It's nice.
00:33:32But there are some that are just unbelievable.
00:33:35What?
00:33:35You going to say Hawaii beaches?
00:33:36I think, Sean.
00:33:37Are better than Sea Isle?
00:33:38Yeah, man.
00:33:39When we, when we, I've been very fortunate and have had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii
00:33:43on a few occasions.
00:33:45And the last time we were there, Rochelle was asking around to locals about good places
00:33:50to go to.
00:33:50And they steered us right.
00:33:52They steered us to empty, beautiful, secluded, stunningly beautiful beaches.
00:33:58Did Sea Isle City come up?
00:33:59Off the beaten path.
00:34:00They mentioned Sea Isle City, but it was too far of a drive for us.
00:34:04Listen, bro.
00:34:05I'm going to tell you.
00:34:06I know you think you're here in paradise.
00:34:07But if you've never been to Sea Isle City, oh, man.
00:34:11Yeah.
00:34:12We just, we couldn't do it.
00:34:13I got to tell you.
00:34:16Couldn't make it happen.
00:34:17And then a Wildwood Crest, man.
00:34:19All right.
00:34:20One more thing from Stream of Consciousness Nerd.
00:34:22That's okay.
00:34:23Yes.
00:34:23All right.
00:34:24One more thing.
00:34:24The Stream of Consciousness Nerd.
00:34:27We're going to continue traveling a little bit.
00:34:28Featuring and another thing.
00:34:30I forgot.
00:34:32That's what we're doing in another thing.
00:34:34All right.
00:34:34So datingadvice.com talked to 3,000 single travelers about their own personal experiences.
00:34:41And they came up with a list of the best airports for finding love in.
00:34:45The best airports for finding love.
00:34:48If that's what your life has come to.
00:34:50But yeah.
00:34:50Lay it on us.
00:34:51What are the best airports?
00:34:52Wasn't there a rom-com based on this?
00:34:54Like within the last year or two?
00:34:55Yes.
00:34:55With Meg Ryan.
00:34:56David Duchovny?
00:34:57Yes.
00:34:58Yeah.
00:34:58Okay.
00:34:58So the question asks, how do you actually meet someone special at the airport?
00:35:03And the survey finds the best chances by getting seated next to them on the plane.
00:35:08But if you're not that lucky, having your flight delayed and bonding over shared frustration.
00:35:14Would you like some of my ribs?
00:35:15Is second best way to meet.
00:35:17I had a friend of mine who met a long-term girlfriend.
00:35:21Really?
00:35:21They were together for years.
00:35:23And they had met on the same thing.
00:35:25They had seated next to each other on a plane and they hit it off.
00:35:28I thought that was kind of cool.
00:35:29That is pretty nice.
00:35:30Yeah.
00:35:30That's how Charlie Day and Rob McElhaney met.
00:35:33You're right.
00:35:33Sitting on a plane next to one another.
00:35:35We wouldn't have It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia if not for a plane.
00:35:37Oh my gosh.
00:35:37Yeah.
00:35:37I had a friend who, and they're not together anymore, but he dated this girl for a long
00:35:42time.
00:35:42We met them in traffic when we were headed up to a fish concert.
00:35:45We got up to, it was in upstate, upstate Maine.
00:35:47And we eventually get to a point where you're just going to be crawling in traffic for about
00:35:5212 hours.
00:35:53And the people that were behind us ended up, you know.
00:35:56You started talking with them.
00:35:57You started talking to them.
00:35:58We should take a flight.
00:35:59Yeah.
00:36:00And then, you know, and then, yeah, the guy that I was with and the girl that was in that
00:36:04group, they ended up like hooking up all weekend and then saw each other.
00:36:08And, you know, I think they dated for like a year or two.
00:36:11That's pretty good.
00:36:11So, by the way, they mentioned that the, uh, the ultimate airport icebreaker is to suggest
00:36:18asking to, is it, the travelers suggest asking to borrow a phone charger from someone.
00:36:23That's how you kind of get the conversation started.
00:36:26May I borrow a tampon?
00:36:28What?
00:36:29What?
00:36:29Huh?
00:36:30I like to make little figures out of them.
00:36:34What?
00:36:35It's a hobby of mine.
00:36:37Yeah.
00:36:37I make soldiers.
00:36:38Oh, I have a hobby too.
00:36:39If you have a Kotex, I use that as a shield.
00:36:42Kathy, when you are traveling and it is not that time of the month for you, do you
00:36:47still bring stuff with you?
00:36:49No.
00:36:50Why would I?
00:36:51All right.
00:36:51So, Steve, this is good.
00:36:52Yeah.
00:36:53This is a good way to find out whether or not said lady.
00:36:55Someone's on the rag.
00:36:55Yeah.
00:36:56Excuse me.
00:36:57Are you on the rag?
00:36:59I know whether to proceed or not.
00:37:01I, uh, I hate to ask this, but are you on the rag?
00:37:05Do you fly often?
00:37:06And are you on the rag?
00:37:07I...
00:37:07How many American Airlines miles do you have?
00:37:12And are you currently bleeding?
00:37:17Those would be, those would be considered by most people to be intrusive questions.
00:37:21By the way, on the rag is, it's one of my, it's, it's a great thing.
00:37:25It's as reductive as you can get.
00:37:27Is it a great thing?
00:37:28Yeah, it is.
00:37:29It is.
00:37:30Are we sure on this?
00:37:31Listen, when Lincoln first mentioned it.
00:37:34I don't think so.
00:37:35I don't think I'm heading back to the White House.
00:37:38The missus is on the rag.
00:37:42Better to stay out here in the Civil War.
00:37:46I'm safer.
00:37:48On the rag.
00:37:50By the way, Bill Belichick met his very young girlfriend on a flight.
00:37:54On a plane.
00:37:55Get out.
00:37:56How did she end up in first class?
00:37:59She gave him the Heimlich.
00:38:00I was choking on a piece of steak.
00:38:05She was probably haunting, let's be honest.
00:38:07Oh, I'm sure.
00:38:08She knew.
00:38:09I won't guarantee it, but I wouldn't be serious.
00:38:12She knew Bill Belichick was absolutely.
00:38:15Worked.
00:38:16Well, maybe they met in Palm Beach, Florida,
00:38:20because that is considered the most romantic airport for making connection and finding love.
00:38:25Palm Beach International Airport.
00:38:27What's next?
00:38:27Number two is Orlando.
00:38:30Orlando.
00:38:31Orlando.
00:38:32I love you.
00:38:34Orlando.
00:38:34Orlando.
00:38:35All the top ones are in Florida.
00:38:37Number three is Fort Lauderdale.
00:38:40Number four is Tampa International.
00:38:42Interesting.
00:38:43So why?
00:38:44I'm trying to think, does that rely simply on the good weather?
00:38:49Does it rely on the actual layout of the airport that's conducive to that?
00:38:53Less clothing because it's warmer, probably.
00:38:55I don't know.
00:38:56Helps.
00:38:56Number five is O'Hare in Chicago.
00:38:59Chicago.
00:39:00Completely different.
00:39:01Chicago.
00:39:02Number six is Savannah Hilton Head International.
00:39:05Number seven is Southwest Florida, which is in Fort Myers.
00:39:09I think Dallas-Fort Worth has a lot of areas that would be conducive to,
00:39:14it's a sprawling airport.
00:39:16That's a great airport.
00:39:17You know, the seating is such that you could be in a lot of bars and a lot of little nooks
00:39:24and things like that to make it a fun place to hang out.
00:39:27Number eight is Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta.
00:39:30Number nine, and this was the surprising one on the list to me,
00:39:34Atlantic City International Airport.
00:39:38Why have we been hearing about that?
00:39:39Was it you that brought up the fact about flying out of Atlantic City, Kathy?
00:39:42Yes, I flew out once and it was like-
00:39:44Did you fall in love?
00:39:45Well, no.
00:39:45At the time, it was terrible, but they have since redone it.
00:39:48So maybe that has something to do with it because it's, I think, a fairly new airport.
00:39:52I was looking into some possibilities of flying this summer,
00:39:55just trying to figure out summer vacation plans and whatever.
00:39:58And, Kathy, when I was Googling flights or whatever,
00:40:00every time I would put in Philadelphia, I would also get Harrisburg and Atlantic City.
00:40:04And I'm thinking about it because there are direct flights to places that I'm considering going,
00:40:08and it's a little bit more affordable going out of AC.
00:40:10It is.
00:40:11It's just annoying because you have to be careful when you fly in
00:40:14because then you do have a bit of a drive.
00:40:16And think about it.
00:40:17If you're coming at any time where there's going to be traffic, you're driving right through it.
00:40:21So to me, it's not worth it.
00:40:22And then there's number 10 on this list is Seattle-Tacoma in Seattle-Washington, that airport.
00:40:29Excuse me.
00:40:29Do you have any tampons?
00:40:31What?
00:40:34I make figures with them.
00:40:35Yeah.
00:40:35Action figures.
00:40:36Try that out sometime.
00:40:37See how that works.
00:40:38Get back to us.
00:40:39Give it a shot.
00:40:39Ask to see an airport.
00:40:40Don't blame us.
00:40:41But don't ask if they're on the rack.
00:40:44Yeah.
00:40:45It's offensive.
00:40:46We were kidding about that part of it.
00:40:48The other part, go for it.
00:40:49It's a great icebreaker.
00:40:50What do you do to manage menstrual flow?
00:40:58Oh, I use the cup.
00:40:59The cup?
00:41:00Yes.
00:41:01Does it have a handle on it?
00:41:02I don't know how those things...
00:41:03Is it more like a mug?
00:41:05I use the mug.
00:41:08I'm an old-style gal.
00:41:10I use a stein.
00:41:11I'm from Germany.
00:41:12It's very decorative.
00:41:14All right.
00:41:16I use the goblet.
00:41:18All right.
00:41:18We're wrapping up the stream of consciousness, nerd.
00:41:21Next time, we'll do And Another Thing, if we can come up with the proper music and everything
00:41:25for it.
00:41:26Yeah.
00:41:26And Another Thing.
00:41:27All right.
00:41:28Let's take a break and come back in a moment.
00:41:30The Home and Garden Show is coming to town this weekend.
00:41:33Our buddy, Jeff Devlin, is heavily involved in that.
00:41:35We will talk to him in just a little bit when we return.
00:41:38Stay with us.
00:41:39So, this is a little bit offbeat, but the Tower of London, we visited that when we went
00:41:49to England a couple of years ago.
00:41:51The Tower of London's Queen Raven is missing and feared dead, according to the staff at the
00:41:58Fortress.
00:41:59So, apparently, they keep this flock of ravens there.
00:42:03And I remember being there and saying they're huge.
00:42:05They're these big black birds.
00:42:06I remember seeing them.
00:42:07Yeah, yeah.
00:42:08I just thought they were...
00:42:09That's why they just kind of, you know, flew in and hung out.
00:42:11But apparently, they have a...
00:42:13They cultivate them.
00:42:14Yeah.
00:42:14I was going to say, they grow them there.
00:42:16They grow them there.
00:42:16But they...
00:42:17Do you have any of those crow seeds?
00:42:18The Tower usually has six ravens at any time.
00:42:21And according to legend, if they ever leave, then both the Fortress and the Kingdom will
00:42:26fall.
00:42:27Yes!
00:42:28There are currently seven...
00:42:29One, two, three, four, five, six...
00:42:31There are seven in residence.
00:42:34A spokesman said, Marlena's continued absence indicates to us that she may have sadly passed
00:42:41away.
00:42:41So, that's Marlena.
00:42:42She is the queen.
00:42:43It is the most great duress for us as Marlena has gone.
00:42:47As you know, the legend of the kingdom will fall if you do not have sand crows or presents
00:42:53at all times.
00:42:55So, it is now that I must have formed.
00:42:58That's Marlena's...
00:43:02That's disgusting.
00:43:04We need a different spokesperson.
00:43:07Who hired him?
00:43:08Yeah, time to retire, bro.
00:43:11There's always some guy that big mutton chops.
00:43:14Can we get a young guy?
00:43:15I'm 27.
00:43:20Taking care of these birds will aid you.
00:43:22He added, Marlena was our undisputed ruler of the roost.
00:43:26Queen of the Tower Ravens.
00:43:28She will be greatly missed by her fellow Ravens, the Raven Master, and all of us here in the
00:43:34Tower community.
00:43:34But, if you know Marlena, you know that's so, Raven.
00:43:41I believe the people that work at the Tower, I think they volunteer.
00:43:43I think they, I want to say I remember reading that.
00:43:48It was great.
00:43:49I really enjoyed going there.
00:43:50I'm a complete anglophile when it comes to this stuff.
00:43:51The royal family, the Tower, even though watching The Crown is so much fun.
00:43:54But, listen, some people don't get it.
00:43:58I love it.
00:43:59It's a dated concept, but it's pretty cool.
00:44:02There's nothing wrong with that and embracing that and keeping that going.
00:44:05Yeah.
00:44:05Yeah, there are touristy spots in London that you'd think maybe are a little cheesy or
00:44:09whatever.
00:44:09This was not.
00:44:10I really enjoyed that tour, and I'd go back.
00:44:13The Crown Jewels are there.
00:44:14It was really cool.
00:44:15By the way, if you do want to see The Crown Jewels, my only one-time visit there, my
00:44:19recommendation, we got as soon as it opened, and it was the first place we went, and there
00:44:22was nobody there.
00:44:24And, apparently, the line.
00:44:24Oh, you were putting on The Crown.
00:44:25We looked at, out in front of where The Crown Jewels are, is one of those back-and-forth
00:44:31switchback wait-line things.
00:44:33And, you know, you could just, by walking through that, we're like, okay, this could take forever
00:44:38on a busy day.
00:44:39But, we got right in.
00:44:40It was very impressive.
00:44:41Yeah.
00:44:42So, I thought that was pretty cool.
00:44:44So, the raven master, Christopher Scaife, said that he would be taking some time to
00:44:51mourn Merlina.
00:44:52Tower staff added that they had no immediate plans to replace her, and Charles is believed
00:44:59to have been the first monarch to officially decree that the birds must be kept at the tower
00:45:05at all times.
00:45:07So, one of them's gone.
00:45:08Oh, apparently, when numbers fell to just a single raven guard, Winston Churchill,
00:45:14had ordered that the flock, which is known as an unkindness, that's a flock of ravens.
00:45:20An unkindness.
00:45:21Wow.
00:45:21This was increased to at least six.
00:45:24We want to increase the flock.
00:45:25Yes.
00:45:25In 2018, the tower launched.
00:45:28Get the flock out of here.
00:45:29A raven breeding program.
00:45:30I'm course quoting Little Weapon True.
00:45:33After his story.
00:45:34Of course.
00:45:35Yes.
00:45:35What did the shepherd say to the other shepherd?
00:45:37Winston Churchill was a visionary.
00:45:39Was it?
00:45:39Okay.
00:45:40That was in the first one, Winston.
00:45:41I'm sorry.
00:45:41We'll have to throw that at you.
00:45:43But anyhow, it was becoming increasingly difficult to source the birds.
00:45:46So, all right.
00:45:47And that's all I have time for, I guess, in my thing that I just did.
00:45:51What was it?
00:45:52The junk drawer.
00:45:52There you go.
00:45:53And that wraps up tonight's thing that I just said.
00:45:56I'm Tom Brokaw.
00:45:58Let's call the news.
00:46:00We were talking about checking our mental health earlier.
00:46:03Yes.
00:46:03If you've been feeling stressed out, you may want to scream, and you should, as it could
00:46:09help you feel better.
00:46:10So, we had the discussion about Primal Scream Therapy and the song Shout by Tears for Fears,
00:46:15and the jury's still out as to whether or not that was actually a song about Primal
00:46:19Scream Therapy, but it used to be all the rage for a while.
00:46:22Yes.
00:46:23Avi Klein, a psychotherapist, says, I think every emotion-
00:46:26You should do it!
00:46:27We feel-
00:46:29A little reverb on that, please.
00:46:31You should do it!
00:46:33It's so therapeutic!
00:46:35He says, I think every emotion that we feel has a kind of correlating action that goes
00:46:41along with it.
00:46:42It feels really good or even healthy to discharge that emotion.
00:46:46Discharge?
00:46:46Uh, John Norcross is a professor of psychology at the University of Scranton and says that
00:46:52no matter how you vet your feelings out-
00:46:54Mother, I have a strange discharge.
00:46:57It's a good way to relieve tension.
00:46:59Oh, God.
00:47:02Can you hit that again, please?
00:47:03Mother, I have a strange discharge.
00:47:06Okay.
00:47:06Uh, Klein notes that, uh, simply screaming won't face your issues.
00:47:13We can't play the whole one.
00:47:14Can we-
00:47:15And you'll still-
00:47:15I don't know if times have changed.
00:47:16And you'll still have to face whatever it is that's bothering you and work through
00:47:20it even after taking the edge off.
00:47:22Dad, can I talk to you for a minute?
00:47:23Oh, Jesus.
00:47:23I have a strange discharge.
00:47:25I'm just clipping the-
00:47:31Well, yeah, the rest of it tells where the discharge came from, yeah.
00:47:37And that's when Bill gets a little nervous.
00:47:39It's actually worse this way.
00:47:41Is it?
00:47:41I think, but by his reckoning, it would probably be better.
00:47:44Well, maybe he got let out of the army and it was strange.
00:47:47And he got a strange discharge and he wasn't-
00:47:49Can I talk to you for a minute?
00:47:50I have a strange discharge.
00:47:51I'm sorry, I was trying to read a book here, but yeah, please tell me about your drippy
00:47:58weenie.
00:48:00Yes.
00:48:02Can I finish my steak first?
00:48:05Dad, can I talk to you for a minute?
00:48:07I have a strange discharge.
00:48:08Wait, I almost nailed it.
00:48:09I nailed it so much better.
00:48:10I'll have to edit that down.
00:48:11I want to hear discharge.
00:48:12All right.
00:48:13Dad, can I talk to you for a minute?
00:48:14I have a strange discharge.
00:48:16There we go.
00:48:17Nailed it.
00:48:18Nailed it.
00:48:18Mother, I have a strange discharge.
00:48:25What would a normal one be?
00:48:27What would a non-strange discharge be?
00:48:29You know?
00:48:30Yeah.
00:48:31I have fro you coming out my ass.
00:48:36That's pretty strange, but probably more acceptable.
00:48:39Casey, there was something you wanted to show us?
00:48:40Well, I have a couple of things.
00:48:41I have another audio thing, something I had told you about off the air, and then I got
00:48:44this thing that I learned about yesterday.
00:48:46So, I want everybody to take your iPhones out real quick and pull up an iTunes.
00:48:52Now, take your chops off.
00:48:53Pull up an iTunes?
00:48:54Pull up your iTunes.
00:48:55Pick out any song on your iTunes.
00:48:56I don't care which song it is.
00:48:58I haven't used iTunes in a while.
00:48:59I had to delete my iTunes.
00:49:00Really?
00:49:01Why?
00:49:02Storage concerns on my phone.
00:49:04I moved it on.
00:49:04Well, we don't need to hear about it on here.
00:49:07Gotcha.
00:49:08It's a porn thing.
00:49:10Yeah.
00:49:10Way too much porn on my phone.
00:49:12Pull up anything you're saying?
00:49:13Anything, and also, take your headphones off real quick.
00:49:17Well, just in a second, you're going to have to take your headphones off.
00:49:20Okay.
00:49:21And does it matter what song I choose?
00:49:23No, it does not matter.
00:49:24Whatever song you want to hear.
00:49:26Well, now I've got to go through and find a song I want to hear.
00:49:28I just took the first one, and it came up.
00:49:31All right, I got one.
00:49:31I got one.
00:49:32All right, you got one?
00:49:32All right.
00:49:32So, take your headphones off.
00:49:34Yeah.
00:49:35All right.
00:49:36Yeah.
00:49:37All right.
00:49:37Now, press play on your iTunes, and stick the speaker part of your iPhone in your mouth
00:49:43like this.
00:49:43Okay.
00:49:44And close your lips over it.
00:49:45What the hell is going on?
00:49:47Seriously.
00:49:47And we're all doing this at the same time?
00:49:48All doing it at the same time.
00:49:49Everybody press play.
00:49:51All right.
00:49:52All the way.
00:49:53All right.
00:49:55Now, cover your ears.
00:49:57Both your ears.
00:50:00I refuse to do this.
00:50:01Well, you can't hear it?
00:50:05Yeah, I can hear it.
00:50:06Yeah.
00:50:06Okay.
00:50:07It's like a bone.
00:50:08It's like bone phones, earphones.
00:50:09Kathy, why are you not doing it?
00:50:11It won't fit in my mouth.
00:50:12Yes, it will.
00:50:13Oh, my God.
00:50:13Yes, it will.
00:50:14Say that again.
00:50:16Say that again.
00:50:17Okay.
00:50:17So, I see your hand.
00:50:19You can hear it a little bit more.
00:50:20I can hear it even without putting my hands over my ears.
00:50:23Oh, really?
00:50:24Yeah.
00:50:24So, if you're driving, is there a way to listen to it without having the phone in your mouth?
00:50:30It's like bone induction.
00:50:31Yeah.
00:50:31That's what it's called.
00:50:32Bone induction speakers.
00:50:33We have a couple of the earphones my wife uses when she swims.
00:50:36Yeah.
00:50:36Well, how much did those cost?
00:50:38This is for free, bro.
00:50:40You just shove the bone in your mouth and plug it up your ears.
00:50:47You know what?
00:50:48You know how you have that keyboard function on your oven?
00:50:51Yeah.
00:50:52Try putting the dinner rolls in your ass.
00:50:54Kathy, why did you not do it?
00:50:57As this was all going on, I just hear, because we had to take our headphones off, I just hear
00:51:01Steve go, I refuse to do this.
00:51:03Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:51:04Thanks for playing along, bro.
00:51:05Well, I couldn't get my Asia song to play, which would have been so cool.
00:51:09I did do it, Casey.
00:51:11Isn't that wild?
00:51:12Yeah.
00:51:12Put it in your mouth?
00:51:13Yeah.
00:51:14I didn't see it.
00:51:15I did.
00:51:15I just did it.
00:51:17Try this when you get home, Kathy.
00:51:19Okay.
00:51:21Draw a nice bath.
00:51:23Get in it.
00:51:24Yeah.
00:51:24Take your electric hair dryer.
00:51:27Dip it in the water.
00:51:28You'll be able to hear prints.
00:51:29While it's plugged in.
00:51:31The speakers have gotten much better on these phones.
00:51:34My son was listening to, I was watching a YouTube video or something like that, and
00:51:38he was in the other room, and I was almost like, turn that, turn that damn music down.
00:51:42I'm trying to listen to my story on my Stephen King story.
00:51:48But it's gotten, you remember the old phones, like, if you for some reason didn't have a
00:51:53Bluetooth speaker or something to hook it into, and you tried valiantly, exactly, to
00:51:58listen to something, it's gotten much better.
00:52:01They're definitely a lot louder.
00:52:03I'm listening to Pearl Jam.
00:52:04Listen.
00:52:07It won't fit my mouth.
00:52:10Yes, it will.
00:52:11Oh, my God.
00:52:11Yes, it will.
00:52:12It won't fit my mouth.
00:52:15Oh.
00:52:16Presley Gerber, the son of Supermodel Cindy Crawford, took to Instagram Live in order to
00:52:22clear up his reasons for getting a tattoo on his cheek.
00:52:26All right.
00:52:26Hey, guys.
00:52:28I want to let, you know, I wrote it a word on my face.
00:52:32Which he has received backlash for, and I've not seen it.
00:52:36I've just read this story.
00:52:37That's it.
00:52:38And the only thing I have is a quote from him that says, if I thought it was going to ruin
00:52:42my face, I wouldn't have done it.
00:52:44Really?
00:52:44Well, that's how stupid he is.
00:52:45He, he, um, he, what is the word that he, it's one word and it's, um.
00:52:50What, the word on his face?
00:52:51Yeah.
00:52:52Misunderstood.
00:52:52Misunderstood, right.
00:52:53So it's under his eye on, high up on his cheek.
00:52:57It's a thin line, but it's still stupid.
00:52:59He's a male model, as is his sister, Kaya Gerber.
00:53:03And I don't know why you would do that.
00:53:05A male?
00:53:05You're a model.
00:53:07Yeah.
00:53:07And you've just ruined your career.
00:53:10You've just ruined exactly your product.
00:53:12Oh my God.
00:53:13Now he has tattoos.
00:53:14He's got a lot of tattoos.
00:53:15He has no tattoos on his face.
00:53:18He's got some on his neck.
00:53:19Yeah.
00:53:20All over his hands.
00:53:21I mean, I don't know.
00:53:23Okay.
00:53:23Did you see Amber Rose?
00:53:24Amber Rose has a tattoo along the top part of her, highest part of her forehead.
00:53:30Her hairline?
00:53:30Yeah.
00:53:31Okay.
00:53:31So she's, her head's always shaved and it's sort of calligraphy.
00:53:33It looks lovely, but what are you going to do with that?
00:53:36I couldn't even read what it said, but it's big.
00:53:38Okay.
00:53:39I'm, I'm, I'm sort of coming around on face tattoos.
00:53:42You going to get one?
00:53:43I wouldn't want any of my children to.
00:53:45Listen, if you're, I met these guys at the tattoo convention, right?
00:53:49Uh, they were the coolest guys.
00:53:51They were smoking cigarettes.
00:53:52They were smoking cigarettes.
00:53:54And they were wearing leather.
00:53:55I was like, wow, man, can you blow smoke rings?
00:53:57Um, one, one guy, and they listen to the show.
00:54:00Uh, their guy's name is Dave.
00:54:02Yeah.
00:54:02He's got a, um, he's got a D that's kind of like tattooed into his beard line.
00:54:08For Dave?
00:54:09For Dave.
00:54:11And.
00:54:12I can see why you're coming around.
00:54:13Uh, listen, he, he and his buddy, they both lay concrete.
00:54:17They're both just big.
00:54:20They both.
00:54:21They, they, they are like concrete.
00:54:22It's not that they actually like concrete.
00:54:24Oh, I said lay.
00:54:25They both like concrete.
00:54:27I was wondering, big, big fans of concrete.
00:54:38They're big fans just love it.
00:54:40No, yeah, yeah, no.
00:54:40Metamorphic and sedimentary.
00:54:43Yeah, it's okay.
00:54:44What does that have to do with it anyway?
00:54:45Because, listen, they lay concrete for a living.
00:54:48What the hell does it matter if they, you know, like face tattoos or whatever?
00:54:52They're not your lawyer, you know?
00:54:53They're not a judge on the bench or where, you know, somebody that you would not want to have face tattoos.
00:54:58If someone wants to do it, that's absolutely fine.
00:55:01Yeah.
00:55:01In this case, we're questioning a male model whose livelihood depends on his looks, getting a word tattooed on his face that will always have to be attended to whenever he does something.
00:55:10Sure, but he already has tattoos on his neck as well.
00:55:13I mean, so clearly it's not that big of a deal.
00:55:15Here's an argument for you for why it's a bad idea, okay?
00:55:19So in human interaction and when you start to meet someone for the first time, whatever the scenario may be, you engage in eye contact, in facial reading of emotions and things like that.
00:55:33If you have stuff written or placed on your face, it's a distraction from that.
00:55:37And I think it's a lack of being able to communicate effectively.
00:55:41But what about like a giant mole on somebody's face?
00:55:43Are you going to tell them to get that removed because it's distracting?
00:55:45Yes, if possible, yes.
00:55:46Yes.
00:55:47Very distracting when we talk to you.
00:55:49Yes.
00:55:49Can you get that removed?
00:55:50I have a Facebook page.
00:55:51And take your friend with a Facebook page.
00:55:52Thanks, Cass Steve.
00:55:53Before we welcome our guest, you wanted to mention something.
00:55:55Yes, coming up this Saturday, it is the 14th Annual Love Potions Happy Hour.
00:55:59It is from 5.30 to 9.30 at one of your Old Hawns Preston Broken Goblet Brewing in Ben Salem.
00:56:06Broken Goblet.
00:56:06Yes, what Ben would do with Saint played there.
00:56:09I am your emcee.
00:56:11Over 75 raffle baskets, 50-50 drink specials, free photo booth, a ton of stuff.
00:56:16And it all benefits Phil Adoptables.
00:56:18And they do great work for animals all throughout the tri-state area.
00:56:22You know how fantastic they are.
00:56:23They also have that Hunks and Hounds calendar.
00:56:26And I will be there serving as a contrast to the Hunks to make you appreciate them more.
00:56:30But a lot of the Hunks will be there.
00:56:31And of course, women want to see the Hunks.
00:56:33It's a wonderful event.
00:56:34And again, it's the one event that Phil Adoptables really kind of puts their hand out and says,
00:56:39could you help us out?
00:56:39Because they do such great work.
00:56:41Again, that's this Saturday at Broken Goblet Brewing in Ben Salem, 5.30 to 9.30.
00:56:45$10 gets you in the door.
00:56:47Great beer, great food, a great time.
00:56:49And those raffles are world class.
00:56:52So we'd love to see you there this Saturday evening.
00:56:54Nice.
00:56:54By the way, this weekend, something going on not only Saturday, but Friday through Sunday.
00:56:58So Friday, Saturday, Sunday at the Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks.
00:57:03You will find the Philadelphia Home and Garden Show.
00:57:06And our next guest, who is back in our studio once again, ladies and gentlemen, our friend,
00:57:11Mr. Jeff Devlin is here with us.
00:57:15Oh, my God.
00:57:15Say my name again.
00:57:16That sounds so good.
00:57:18Jeff Devlin.
00:57:18Kathy, can you say my name?
00:57:20Jeff Devlin.
00:57:20Yes.
00:57:21Oh, my God.
00:57:22You guys have no idea.
00:57:23I've listened to him forever, but for me, to hear your voice on the radio station that
00:57:29you've listened to forever is just the coolest thing ever.
00:57:32I even brought my daughter to make sure it was real today.
00:57:35You are a mega listener.
00:57:37We were talking over to my house recently, helping us.
00:57:39We're redoing our kitchen.
00:57:40In fact, you did the kitchen in the Manny on cows.
00:57:42Yeah.
00:57:42But, yes, you know all the ins and outs of the show.
00:57:45We appreciate it.
00:57:46Hell, you even let us almost make you an amputee at one point during the camp.
00:57:50You can see the fingers.
00:57:51Is it still there?
00:57:51It's still like the, as I'm, first of all, I felt like such an idiot, but the fact that
00:57:57my nail will never grow back, it always has that crease.
00:58:01And I, yeah, I will, every time I hear the word camp out, I'm like, yeah, it's the day
00:58:05I almost lost my fingers.
00:58:06That was good.
00:58:07Well, you're doing it for a good cause.
00:58:09You built a table for someone.
00:58:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:58:10That was fun.
00:58:11Yeah, it was very cool.
00:58:12Jeff, I wanted to ask you about this weekend.
00:58:14So you're going to be doing a bunch of different things.
00:58:16You've got some demos and stuff like that.
00:58:18But one of the things I was curious about, it says here, Jeff will be
00:58:21presenting on how to hire a contractor.
00:58:24That's on Saturday and Sunday.
00:58:26So that's a, we've been, we've hired a contractor a couple of times.
00:58:31That's a weird little dance you have to do.
00:58:32It is.
00:58:33But the truth is, is that most homeowners don't do the homework that they need to do before
00:58:38they hire a contractor.
00:58:40Right.
00:58:40It's like they're so excited to just have the work done that they look the other way.
00:58:44It's like dating, but kind of dating the wrong person.
00:58:47You're actually, you are doing, you're helping us with this very thing with our process with
00:58:52the kitchen.
00:58:52It's daunting.
00:58:53And you're right.
00:58:54Doing your, doing your due diligence will, will pay off because there's two different
00:58:59parties that don't quite know how to communicate.
00:59:01And it's also, it's not just the work.
00:59:04I mean, a good contractor should always be able to complete the work for you.
00:59:07They should be able to be a good carpenter, be a good electrician, be a good plumber.
00:59:12However, a lot of times it's fit.
00:59:13It's personality.
00:59:14We all know that we latch on to people that are, you know, they're, they, they fit us
00:59:19so to speak.
00:59:20So if it's the right personality that fits you, that's the one, you know, within reason,
00:59:25but many, many folks won't even ask for referrals.
00:59:28I just got asked for my first referral in 35 years yesterday.
00:59:33Really?
00:59:34You would, you would, you would suggest years.
00:59:36That's, that's a, that's a standard, right?
00:59:38It's a standard thing.
00:59:38And the reason why I say, and this is part of my, the, I call it a lecture, but it's a
00:59:43presentation, but it's part of that process where you have to find out, you know, and
00:59:47it's not asking like, how was your remodel?
00:59:49Do you like your kitchen?
00:59:50Do you like your bath?
00:59:51It's like, was the contractor on time?
00:59:53Was there any overages?
00:59:55Is there anything that you would change?
00:59:58What would it be?
00:59:59Like, did they respect your house?
01:00:01Did they step on your dog?
01:00:02Did they, you know, like really think about the things that when people come into your
01:00:06house, we want our shoes, like we want you to take your shoes off or what does dust
01:00:09control look like?
01:00:10Like, like we all complain about it, but to our, you know, our contractor to this, but
01:00:14it was never brought up to them.
01:00:16It's, it's very sage advice.
01:00:18You know, something else that you, you mentioned and you, and I, so again, in this process of,
01:00:23of doing our, doing our kitchen, every one of the contractors that we talked to all recommended
01:00:29that we talk to multiple contractors.
01:00:31And if one doesn't suggest that they're not going to be worth a damn, are they?
01:00:36No.
01:00:36They want you to find, as you said, find the right fit and it's not offensive to them
01:00:41for you to do it because they as well are looking for someone who will benefit for the
01:00:46most part, a good contractor.
01:00:47Correct.
01:00:48That they can work with.
01:00:49Correct?
01:00:49Yes.
01:00:50We had, we had a guy one time we were getting some work done.
01:00:52This is not a horror story, but it was just like, what?
01:00:55So we wanted to get a, a deck and a patio built.
01:00:57One of these two things made.
01:00:59And the guy showed up and we're talking to him about what it was.
01:01:01He's like, eh, I think you'd be better off with just a patio.
01:01:04And we're like, no, we want, we've decided we want this.
01:01:07We want a deck and a patio.
01:01:08He's like, well, I mainly do patios.
01:01:10I think it'd be good.
01:01:10We're just, no, no, this is what we want.
01:01:11He's like, okay, well, I'll mock up some stuff.
01:01:14I'll draw some things out and I'll come back.
01:01:15And like a few days later, he comes back.
01:01:17And the only thing he presented to us was just a patio.
01:01:21And we're like, no, we wanted, we told you we wanted a deck and a patio.
01:01:26And then he started to get mad at us.
01:01:29Why are you having that conversation then?
01:01:31I did all this work already.
01:01:33And we're like, but we, we told you.
01:01:36Well, you're traumatized by having broken glass as a backsplash.
01:01:39Yeah.
01:01:40I remember those.
01:01:41From trading spaces, yeah.
01:01:43Jeff was there when we were on trading spaces.
01:01:46Jeff was working for the production crew.
01:01:51And so he saw it firsthand.
01:01:53Yeah.
01:01:53I mean, but truth be told, and this is something that people, there's a lot of disrespect going
01:01:57both ways with contractors and homeowners.
01:02:00One of the things that we do as a company, it's at Schoolhouse Woodworking is that we charge
01:02:04for estimates.
01:02:05And the reason why we do that is because it doesn't, when you go to someone's house, if
01:02:10they're not respecting your time, then they don't, they're not listening.
01:02:13They're not paying attention.
01:02:14And then you'll get follow-up questions.
01:02:15As soon as you charge for it, people are so much ready.
01:02:20Oh, I have, here's my list of questions.
01:02:22These are the things.
01:02:23And no, mind you, at the end of that, you, you can take all of the information that was
01:02:28spouted out.
01:02:29A lot of the times contractors hold their ideas really close to them and hope they get
01:02:33the job.
01:02:34But the truth is, is that how do you know how much it's going to cost unless the design
01:02:38is done first?
01:02:39It's the process we're in right now.
01:02:40There's no such thing as an estimate.
01:02:42Yeah.
01:02:42It's just that.
01:02:43It's an estimate that you'll never even get close to.
01:02:45So at that point, you're dealing with somebody in the, in the construction world or their
01:02:50sales.
01:02:51Yeah.
01:02:51So their job is to sell.
01:02:52And that's not the person that's coming to your house.
01:02:54So they see it and they're like, well, hell, that's going to cost this amount of dollars.
01:02:58I think there's an old adage in a customer service that if you do a great job and you
01:03:03know, you, you totally satisfy everything that the customer wants, the customer might
01:03:07tell one or two people.
01:03:08If you do a terrible job, they're definitely going to tell nine or 10.
01:03:10Right.
01:03:10Right.
01:03:10And I think that that's doubly true for contractors.
01:03:13You know, it's become a running joke in my family, but my, they had their kitchen redone
01:03:17in 1989.
01:03:18And to this day, they still talk about how much they load that contractor.
01:03:22It was just a terrible, awful experience.
01:03:24And, and, and subsequent years, other work was done on their house and on my house.
01:03:28And great jobs were done.
01:03:30We don't share those stories, but man, do we share the stories of the, the crap jobs.
01:03:34I'm wrong, Nick, but your parents had actually just asked for a patio and they redid the
01:03:38kitchen.
01:03:40It was the angriest I've ever seen my dad in my life.
01:03:44But you know, to that point, Jeff, like it doesn't take much and asking the right questions
01:03:49just is such a great way to get started.
01:03:51It's just, but it's time that homeowners are not willing to do.
01:03:55I mean, when we, when, unless, unless you ask for money, and I know this sounds forced,
01:04:02but unless you ask them for something that you, you invest in us, then we'll invest in
01:04:07you.
01:04:08That's when it kind of changes a little bit and then they become focused and then they
01:04:11do the work.
01:04:12Because I, I mean, I can't tell you how many times I get a phone call and saying, Hey,
01:04:16we want to redo our kitchen.
01:04:17Great.
01:04:17What do you, like, how do you cook?
01:04:19What do you do?
01:04:19Like, whatever you think was great.
01:04:21I'm like, are you serious?
01:04:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04:24I don't, I'm, I use a microwave 90% of the time and my diet consists of Twizzlers and
01:04:28donuts and coffee.
01:04:29Right, right, yeah.
01:04:30So like, I'm not a cook.
01:04:31So I'm not the guy to ask.
01:04:32So for me, I can design a kitchen for you, but I need to know these things.
01:04:37So you have to sit in your kitchen.
01:04:39You have to sit in your bathroom.
01:04:41Maybe not bathroom.
01:04:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:04:42I sit there usually.
01:04:43Yeah.
01:04:44Yeah.
01:04:44You can contemplate.
01:04:45When you're making number two.
01:04:46Right.
01:04:46But like, you have to be, you have to be prepared to tell the contractor a little bit of what
01:04:52you want and gathering those ideas and putting them on paper, putting them on paper, not a
01:04:56conversation that you have with yourself, but you have with your spouse or your loved
01:04:59one or whoever's doing it with you.
01:05:01So that way it's concrete.
01:05:03This is the information we want.
01:05:04You're going to get a better estimate.
01:05:05You're going to get a better experience and you're going to get a great remodel.
01:05:08This is essential sage advice.
01:05:09We have Lauren Pierno, who is, you know, we've known for years.
01:05:12She's awesome.
01:05:13She is the, she's the, the, the, the head of everything.
01:05:16She's our intermediary.
01:05:17So she's the one to your point.
01:05:19She translates.
01:05:19It translates in the kitchen.
01:05:21What do you do?
01:05:21What do you use it for of your pots and pans?
01:05:24How do you, you know, what do you think, you know, how much of these, these, these do
01:05:28you use?
01:05:29What, what appliances do you really use?
01:05:31And that really holds a lot of swear, but we don't think that way.
01:05:34And so you're dealing with a contract or somebody coming and go, I don't know what
01:05:37you want.
01:05:37So here, we're going to throw the works at you.
01:05:40Or we're just going to go to Home Depot and pick up cabinets off the shelf and just throw them
01:05:43in.
01:05:43And that will suffice if you don't really care.
01:05:45But then people will complain that they didn't get the kitchen of their dreams, yet they
01:05:49didn't communicate.
01:05:50So I would, my presentation is about communicating what you want and also being smart with your
01:05:56selections, not jumping into bed with the first person, getting the referrals, getting,
01:06:01meeting with them, paying them, right?
01:06:03You want a contractor to pay attention to you, say, hey, can I pay you for your time?
01:06:07I know most people will jump out of their cars, crash their cars right now if they're driving
01:06:11and listening to this.
01:06:12But imagine when you put your contractor and you value their time, they will do more.
01:06:18They will 100% do more.
01:06:19Let's take this up to the bedroom.
01:06:20Let's see.
01:06:22No, no.
01:06:22But like anybody who's doing designs for us, I want to make sure they get paid.
01:06:26Even if we don't use them, if they're going to take the time.
01:06:29Yeah.
01:06:29But that's, you're right, that's the way things get serious about the kind of work you're going
01:06:33to get, because if it's left unspoken, that's going to lead to you at the point of like
01:06:38completion.
01:06:38Like, I asked for a deck.
01:06:41Yeah.
01:06:41Yeah.
01:06:42And, you know, what the hell happened here?
01:06:44And anything you're doing, anything substantial is going to cost money, whether it is a powder
01:06:48room or a kitchen or whatever.
01:06:51A dungeon.
01:06:52A dungeon.
01:06:52A dungeon.
01:06:52I mean, that's going to cost because you're also paying for discretion.
01:06:55Exactly.
01:06:56Right.
01:06:56But you know, like as a homeowner, you, I mean, there's this thing called Google, right?
01:07:01Yeah.
01:07:01You could Google it.
01:07:02Damn it.
01:07:03We tell our kids all the time, like, hey, you want to figure this out?
01:07:05Google it.
01:07:06You could find out how much an hourly rate is for plumbers in this area.
01:07:11What is an hourly rate for a plumber?
01:07:12How long will it take to put in a toilet?
01:07:15How much is the average kitchen 10 by 10?
01:07:17You can Google it and you can get all that information now to give you some.
