00:00Live backstage at the QYK Guitar Pool, KC and Kathy, Chase Beckham, my man, how you doing?
00:07What's going on? I'm good, man. How are you guys?
00:08Good, good. Ready for tonight? Ready to see you do your thing?
00:11Yeah, I'm excited. I can't wait.
00:13Do you have like a pre-game ritual going into any show?
00:17Like a drink you gotta have, you gotta stretch for a certain amount of time.
00:21Like, what's your pre-game ritual?
00:24It's just old number seven.
00:28That's about it.
00:29Take that with me up there and I babysit it pretty much for the show, you know, and that's just about it, man.
00:36I don't have anything crazy. I don't got any, like, lucky underwear or nothing like that.
00:41Well, now everybody knows what's in your cup, though, so that's good.
00:43Yeah, yeah. Everybody always asks, I just tell them it's water.
00:47I am a huge fan of 23. I love it.
00:49Thank you so much.
00:49Tell me a little bit about that song and why you wrote it and then you kind of sat on it for a little bit and then it made you an American Idol star.
00:55Yeah, man, I wrote that song whenever I just, I didn't have too much left and I was kind of running on empty and, you know, I'd written a ton of music and tried to play all these shows and go do all these things.
01:08And I tried to do everything I could to get my career off the ground and it just didn't seem like it was going to happen.
01:14I wrote that song as like a last, almost like in my head it was going to be one of the last songs I was ever going to write because I was like, this, no one's going to listen to this.
01:23And, you know, I'm just going to put it in my back pocket and maybe focus on construction and fixing, you know, some of the things that I'd done in my personal life.
01:32And so I had that song and, you know, a few other things happened between then and Idol.
01:37And when I got to Idol, I sent that song into the producers and said, hey, here's some of the music I write and let me know if y'all like any of it.
01:46And they did. So they liked that song and a couple other ones.
01:50And yeah, when we got to record, I got to record that one with Ross Copperman, who, you know, is an incredible producer from Nashville.
01:58And yeah, we were able to get it out and kind of just blew me away, you know, getting the reception from fans and stuff.
02:05And, you know, two years later to take it to radio seemed kind of bizarre to me.
02:11And then it was just awesome getting to celebrate that big number one this year.
02:14Yeah. I love it. Yeah. Thank you.
02:16Well, I know everybody's excited to see you tonight.
02:18And I feel like your vibe and your voice and everything is perfect for a show like this.
02:25Thanks. So we're super excited.
02:27And we also wanted to do a little question roulette with you.
02:32Let's see it. You're not sure what you're going to get in there.
02:34We don't know what you're going to get.
02:36I like to dig around. Yeah. Really mix it up.
02:38Let's see what we got.
02:39What was your first job?
02:43My first job ever.
02:46I'm pretty sure I worked at a packed sun in the mall through the school program.
02:53So I went to the bad kids school.
02:56And so like as an incentive to keep us out of trouble, they would give us.
02:59They'd say, hey, you guys, you can go to work at 15 and, you know, but it was a school program.
03:06So you get out of school a little bit?
03:08Kind of a little. Yeah, it didn't make sense. Right.
03:11But it was a school program that paid you and not the company.
03:14So PacSun would have all these, you know, really delinquent kids come in there.
03:20We'd be in there folding shirts and stuff.
03:22And that was my I think that was my first ever job.
03:24Do you still remember how to fold like perfectly like that?
03:27That's a specialty.
03:28I've worked at a few clothing stores.
03:30So I learned how to how to fold up a sweater, sweatshirt and tuck it into the hood.
03:34And I'm real good at all.
03:36I didn't need the folding board or nothing.
03:38Oh, yeah.
03:38That's a pro.
03:39A lot of people carry that board.
03:41Yeah.
03:42I know the measurements.
03:44That's why I worked at a shoe store.
03:46I couldn't get a little bit easier.
03:50You got another one?
03:51Yeah.
03:51Yes, we got another one.
03:52All right.
03:52We got time.
03:53Let's see what we got.
03:54All right.
03:54Hang on.
03:58Do you this is actually a really good question.
04:01Do you remember names easily?
04:02No.
04:02Do you remember my name?
04:03So bad.
04:04Don't put me in that position right now.
04:07My goodness.
04:09Yeah.
04:12I'm so bad at remembering people's names.
04:14And I have to like hang out with you for like two days before.
04:17Like I've had guys on the road with me for like a week.
04:21And then I've like had to ask them like, hey, what's his name?
04:24Because like I just, if I don't like know you, know you like that.
04:27It's just in and out.
04:28Yeah.
04:28So it's rough.
04:29So then last question.
04:30Do you remember what your discount was at PacSun?
04:33Oh, I think it was like 15%.
04:35It wasn't great.
04:36I worked at another store, though, that I got half off of everything.
04:39Oh, there you go.
04:39Yeah.
04:40And that was my bread and butter in high school.
04:42Well, dude, we appreciate you, man.
04:44Thanks for sitting in with us.
04:45Can't wait to see you tonight.
04:47Thank you so much.
04:47Chase Beckham, everybody.
