00:00We know the hard work and sacrifice they go through serving our community and keeping us safe.
00:06Let's honor another First Responder on 99.5 QYK.
00:11It is First Responder Friday. We have Trisha on the phone with us.
00:15Good morning, Trisha. How are you?
00:17Good. How are you?
00:18We are great. We get to honor your husband, Matthew, today.
00:20Tell us about Matthew. How does he serve our community as a First Responder?
00:24He actually is a battalion chief out at Polk County Fire Rescue.
00:28Okay, wow. How long has he been on the job?
00:30He's been there about 15 years.
00:32And is this something he did right out of high school or right out of college?
00:36So when he graduated high school, it was right after 9-11, so there was a huge influx of people going that direction.
00:43So he had finished fire school and was waiting to get hired on.
00:47So he finally got hired on about 2008.
00:49Okay, gotcha.
00:50Oh, wow.
00:51Well, let me ask you this.
00:52What do you think, if you had to describe your husband to somebody and what you think makes him great as, obviously, a leader, battalion chief, how would you describe him?
01:00He's very passionate about his job.
01:02He loves being a fireman.
01:03So he's constantly doing continuing education.
01:05He's going to seminars and trainings.
01:08And he's always reading up on different departments, states, just constantly trying to learn more about his job.
01:15Does he talk a lot about his work when he comes home?
01:18He listens to the scanner at home.
01:21Oh, he's all in.
01:23Every time you have to tell him, turn it off.
01:24Can you turn it off?
01:26Hey, they're doing the, what is it called when they start, the hiring.
01:30They're doing the hiring shift right now.
01:31And he's got to listen to that, too, I'm sure.
01:33Oh, yeah.
01:34He's listening.
01:34He'll see, oh, there's a big fire.
01:36What are they doing?
01:36Who's in charge?
01:37And he wants to listen in and see how they did and how they handled it.
01:40Wow.
01:41Who is on the call?
01:42Love that.
01:43So what are some things you guys like to do as a family?
01:45We enjoy vacationing at the beach.
01:48Okay.
01:49We actually joined a crew a few years ago.
01:51So we do the Gasparilla thing together.
01:53Oh, cool.
01:54And because we homeschool, we like to do things with the kids, education-wise.
01:58And then our kids are into hockey now.
02:00So we are always at the hockey rink.
02:01Here we go.
02:02Oh, I love it.
02:03I love it.
02:03Well, listen, we are so thankful for Matthew and his service to our community for Polk County Fire Rescue.
02:09And we want to do this, Trisha.
02:10We want to give you $200 in Visa gift cards, one for our friends at Crown Buick GMC and the other one from Demesman and Dover Law Firm.
02:18Again, this is a small way for us to say thank you for everything that he's done and all the sacrifices he's made.
02:22And also you and your family have made as well.
02:25Oh, well, thank you very much.
02:26You got it.
02:27Awesome.
