00:11uh saint lucia uh-huh rocking the saint lucia jazz festival me and sting so
00:16wow here we are back on the grind you guys definitely have a unique relationship right
00:23yeah well listen we have a good time man um this is this is uh
00:30you know one of those ones that we've been looking forward to both him and i you know
00:34uh we toured for a year uh and change with um four four eight seven six which is the album which we
00:41won a grammy one with and um you know we enjoyed it so much but you know we all had to go back to
00:48our regular day jobs right yeah and he went and did his thing and i went and did my thing and
00:53but every time we get an opportunity to pull it together like this it is so much fun
00:59yeah it is so yeah that's dope so
01:01yeah yeah it's me and gene and shannon renee with the all new morning bounce uh july june 25th
01:09we're kicking off the summer with a big old party the 105 on the bounce birthday bash
01:14you got tlc you got en vogue you got sean kingston and the man that's joining us right now shaggy
01:19um so shaggy just a second ago you were talking about you know doing a show
01:23the saint lucid jazz fest with sting talk about that relationship how that got started and how
01:28that turned into what it is today you know it turned into uh what they call it the bromance
01:35you know uh you know stinging i you know i went i had a record that sting just kind of guessed on
01:45which was don't make me wait and just in that one session we realized we laughed more than even
01:50worked that day wow and that became something that we just didn't want to stop and it went into an
01:56album four four eight seven six we ended up winning a grammy we had a huge world tour and uh then we had
02:03to go back to our day jobs so now now every time we get an opportunity to come and do it like we did
02:11now um in saint lucid jazz festival um it's just an amazing amazing vibe and feeling and uh you know
02:20we're also doing it again on the 9th of um of september uh in philadelphia you know on the one fine day
02:29uh festival which is the sting shaggy festival we got people like coffee and thunder
02:33the cat and test the band and you know hosts of artists very uh chill inclusive diverse kind of
02:42of uh performances uh and he and i'll be very much involved in it you know so we're looking forward
02:47to that are you getting to play some of your new music from your album i definitely checked it out
02:52and i love mood like i mean bouncing in the car i'm like i need to be on a beach right now
02:57that's the only thing i'm upset about i need like a drink in the beach and nothing bothers me
03:02you know the album is called it's it's well it's an ep it's called in the mood and it's really a kind
03:09of a hybrid take on soca you know which as a as a caribbean boy soca has been a part of uh calypso and
03:18soca has been a part of my dna and you know part of uh you know or culture the jamaican culture in
03:23the household my grandmother was a big soca fan she loved lord laro and sparrow and all of these
03:29earlier guys and you know my first uh time collaborating in the genre was with marshall
03:36montana with toro toro and then we ended up doing whining season and you know songs like uh remedy
03:41remix so i've been i've been in the culture for years and i'm friends with bungee and all of these guys
03:47so when i was putting this together i wanted you know i can't really say that i'm gonna i'm i'm
03:51qualified you know because it's such a strong cultural thing but uh that's why i put you know
03:57i asked people like uh kes and bungee and skinny fabulous and um you know all of these artists that
04:05really come on board um and patrice and them because they're masters of their craft and yeah you
04:13know and they you know they really guide me i remember doing mood with kes when i when i played
04:18it for him and he was like i love this song he says but it's missing a little bottle and spoon
04:22like the bottle and spoon and he took a bottle up and he's a spoon and he says
04:27and we blended it into the track and just to give it that you know that swing you know and
04:33and that's what we mean about culture that they you know they're the master in it they know what
04:38what is needed in the music to really give it that vibe you know so i'm very very happy with it it's
04:44it it's such a feel good kind of vibe with it and um you know i'm really looking forward to everybody
04:50to this and you know have a margarita and put your feet up and roll a good one up and have a good time
04:56that's the plan and i will be listening to the album for sure right yes you know kind of hopping
05:04in in the soca lane you've been around for a long time so how cool is it that you're not boxed in and
05:10you're able to try different things and you know work with sting and work with these soca artists who
05:15you know some people might not have heard of and you're able to do kind of whatever it is that
05:19you want to do musically at this point you know i've i've earned that privilege i think you know
05:27i've done 40 million records you know i always say that i take chances and people a lot of people
05:33are scared to take chances because they're scared to fail um i always look at it that i've done enough
05:38cool shit that if i do some uncool shit i'm okay you know it's because i've done a lot of cool joints
05:48you know it's that i've done once the records and i've i've done it all i've done it my way and i've
05:53taken my time and i've done it without the help of you know really big superstar acts you know i mean
05:59you know on on it wasn't me was an unknown artist called rick rock and on angel it was an unknown
06:04artist called rayvon on i need your love is two unknown artists called mahambi and fady i just did banana
06:09two billion stream with a unknown artist by the name of you know conqueror you know i mean so i've i've never
06:16been driven by big superstar features you know which really i'm really proud of because it's
06:23really about my songwriting and my music and me just pushing it through so i've kind of earned that to
06:28really dibble into anything else and you know if if one doesn't go it doesn't go you know they all
06:34can't go you know right but i i'll have a lot of fun doing them you know yeah and a lot of fun and
06:41when then you get one that goes and it just you know you put it this way every artist is the artist
06:49all the time every big artist you know i don't care if it's stevie one down care if it's michael
06:52jackson you look it up they got more flops than hits yeah if you count it they have more flops than
06:58hit but i'm gonna tell you what you can't remember the flops that's why it's a flop
07:03yeah i mean and they get one hit and it erases 30 flops yeah you know oh man just he always puts
07:11these great records out oh well you remember the last five that i put out of that because they're
07:16flops so why are you worried about them you know these artists get into their heads oh i can't put a
07:21joint out man come on you know and then what i also realize is that i might put a joint that doesn't
07:27work very well in the united states but then i'll go to germany and it's the biggest record
07:32yeah yeah but when you're when you're a global act you know i have a song called feel the rush
07:37that if i touch germany it's it's probably my it's probably one of my biggest songs in germany
07:44uh in germany austria throughout you down to europe to you know it was matt because it was a football
07:51song it was for the soccer i got you um uefa cup massive massive record was never played in in
07:58america nobody knows it you know but once i go to europe i throw that in and it's a massive massive
08:04record so you know when you have a global name you put records out you know it might not be i have a
08:09song called godonde which is an anthem in india you know i mean it's you know you you know you
08:17you have to be a global streamer right you know i think that musically even just performing and
08:22internationally and here i feel is different yeah it is different as someone used to run shows like
08:27just seeing how things are over there absolutely and when you put your set list together even in
08:34the united states on i'm going to tour with me at tlc this summer and sean kingston and volgen and my
08:39set list will probably change per state because speaking of that um since you're doing our show
08:47on the 25th of june in detroit yes i'm looking for the looking forward to detroit what's your favorite
08:53thing about detroit when you come here is there a certain place you stop by someone you see
08:58no i've i've i have a lot of friends in detroit um one of our friends is that well you know he
09:04doesn't live there anymore he now moves to miami but uh olivia francois who's a good friend of mine
09:09he was a cmo of uh of chrisley he lived down there for years i used to go down there over his yard and
09:14barbecue and we'd be on a little dingy boat going around the back over there so you know a lot of
09:20people think of detroit it was like oh my god but there's some really nice places there man and um
09:25i have a lot of fun every time i'm there you know we have a bunch of friends that's down there
09:30that's that's just really cool people that's awesome i have another question is your birthday
09:35really for 22nd it's october 22nd yes mine is october 21st so we're almost birth oh really yes um so
09:45you're you're you're libra you're almost libra scorpio yeah i know we're like i'm kind of cusp i'm pretty
09:50sure yeah yeah i'm cusp definitely so what's the most libra thing or uh you know what's the most
09:58libra thing about you for me i'm indecisive no i'm very decisive actually okay yeah i'm not i'm not
10:06i'm not indecisive i i know what i want to go for it um i think one of the most libra trait for me is
10:14that i trust too much yeah i i i don't i'm i'm forever giving you the benefit of the doubt
10:23even when it's in my face like dude he's they're screwing you over i'm like yeah you know you look
10:31for the you're always looking for the little spot of good in there right yeah yeah yeah that's and i
10:38think that's bad i i need to you know i keep doing my my wife is on on me on about it all the time
10:44what are you doing yeah you don't see it it's on paper he just screwed you over i'm like yeah but
10:50there gotta be a reason for that right i definitely try to be fair and balanced right yeah sometimes
10:58it's your detriment you know so i think that's that yeah so you uh mentioned the tour you know tlc
11:04uh uh you're you're shaggy uh and hogan sean kingston uh you're gonna be here for our birthday

11:46shit and uh it's funny it's it's a roller coaster ride of songs and um yeah it's just you know big
12:00energy big energy the tour is called hot summer night for a reason because you know dress warm
12:06well i'm very grateful i'm looking forward to having you on the show and meeting you and
12:12everything and i cannot wait for the energy it's just like the perfect show to kick off the summer

12:22sure what is um like your biggest you just had to be there moment whether it's an interaction with
12:29another artist or maybe something that happened a show or a fan like what's something you can tell me
12:34that you just had to be there oh um i was invited to the uh michael jackson 30th anniversary
12:44years ago and um michael would call me about it but i was it was conflicting it was the middle of
12:54of uh you know hot shot being massive so i we schedule wise it wasn't working out to him
13:02i went and i just looked in i went into my people i said listen man it's michael jackson you know
13:07i don't care what we playing cancel that bitch
13:11we gotta be there and and we ended up uh going on there rocking it if it's online there's a video
13:21online with me doing wasn't me and michael's saying oh my god i love myself it's my favorite song and i
13:27me stopping i say michael i know it's your favorite song you the bang you the original
13:32the bang uh-huh michael's like yes i like that he was sitting there with liz taylor and you know i
13:40met him backstage and you know he was such a fan i was really really moved that he knew not just
13:48who i am but he knew the records on my album and what was asking me about them and for somebody like me
13:54who've michael jackson for years i had so many questions ended up asking me a lot about me
14:05more so you know it's almost like he was studying you know what you were doing you know i guess at
14:11the time i was like the hottest thing at the time so he's he's probably one of those guys that really
14:16study everybody that's hot yeah you know just to keep his game up so i figured that's why i knew
14:21so many things so yeah but that was one of those that's amazing that's dope well shaggy we appreciate
