00:24the way that things are going right now because um you know you're kind of involved with someone
00:30who i'm sure growing up was really um you know someone that you looked up to i'm sure with ray
00:35mysterio and being mixed in with everything that's going on with him and dominic so talk to me about
00:40what it's like to work with someone who you look up to coming up well first of all minjin thank you so
00:46much for having me absolutely i i cherish this opportunity to have this one-on-one and and to
00:53have my audience my wwe universe hear directly from me and my opinions from my life where i come
00:58from what i'm about and and yes just like you said and i just tweeted this yesterday because uh
01:03you know wwe uh schedule is pretty intense and we've been on the road uh for three weeks now
01:09up until yesterday and i was uh this weekend was a magical weekend for me and i tweeted this yesterday
01:16uh one of the most amazing weekends in my career since working with my dad together with my dad
01:24almost 20 years ago uh and i hadn't had this feeling of happiness and and just joy working this weekend
01:34with ray mysterio um there's a lot of respect admiration there uh and i'm just i'm just glad and
01:41i'm very very uh motivated uh for being part of the lwo and just just being with him in the ring
01:49uh it's just it's magical yeah yeah i mean that's a great word to describe it is magical especially
01:56because you know um you you know is growing up as a wrestler i'm sure you watched ray mysterio on tv
02:02and uh you probably got to a point where you're like oh man like he's probably going to be retired by
02:07the time i'm hitting my peak and right now he still seems like he can go for another 10 years
02:13you know what i mean so that's got to be like good motivation for you to kind of want to push
02:17forward and and do it bigger and better right yeah most definitely and the thing is i'm a second
02:22generation uh wrestler or luchador as as we're called in mexico and i met i met ray
02:28uh it was probably 1994 oh wow i i guess i was a kid i was with my dad uh i was i would always tag
02:38along with my dad and he told me he pointed at ray and he told me you see that you see that kid over
02:45there that's ray mysterio he's going places he's gonna make it in the business and i was just a kid
02:50yeah i was probably i was probably nine ten years yeah something like that and uh i just always had a
02:59him in my mind you know like all the things that he's done uh halloween havoc uh the champion you know
03:08all these things that he's he's done to set things in motion and having people like me
03:1820 years after that uh join wwe become important superstars in wwe it's just such an important
03:27legacy the one that he's got yeah ray mysterio now hall of famer now by the way famer yeah brand new
03:34hall of famer so you mentioned you know working with your dad what is that like because i'm sure
03:39again you know before you even knew who ray mysterio was your dad was probably your hero
03:43and to see him doing his thing and then you know kind of bring you along and help you
03:47and to actually get to work with him kind of like what ray and dom did before you know last
03:51summer when things kind of fell apart so what was it like for you to kind of have that working
03:55relationship with your dad where it's like he's not just your dad he's your mentor he's your coach
03:59he's all these other all these other things for you well back in the day i was younger of course
04:06uh well you know the thing about lucha libre is in mexico is a tradition
04:13and i call this my my thc yeah my tradition heritage and culture that's what lucha libre is
04:21to all of to all mexicans and and i can see now that other cultures and other countries are starting
04:29to embrace what lucha libre is you know lucha libre is a sport yeah it's a sport it's entertainment
04:34it's culture it's tradition it's in every family in mexico so growing up being trained by my dad and many
04:41other legends back in the day uh i would just dream of being on the same card as my dad yeah yeah and
04:49then as it turns out i was kind of good at this so i started i started getting the opportunities to be
04:55in the same card to be in the same show of course i would be either opening the show or you're in the
05:02lower card and then just moving up moving up moving up and then finally i got the opportunity to work
05:08with my dad wow and that's that's a very unique emotion where because you have to perform
05:17you got to be professional but at the same time you're looking at your dad
05:22it's it's almost like he's kind of tell you like hey snap out come on
05:29and and i'll tell you something that happened uh a couple weeks ago um i was having a attack
05:37match with ray and of course at this point in my career 23 years in now i'm a professional you know
05:45so i got my i got my game phase ready to go you know i'm tough we have judgment day across the ring
05:53and uh ray turns to me and says how are you feeling yeah
05:59i just told him you know i'm looking away get ready to fight i'm like
06:07this is a magical moment ray and he just kissed me in the forehead all right let's fight yeah okay
06:17i guess i'll put my game phase again yeah you know what i mean like it's that sort of feeling
06:23everything about our industry lucha libre wrestling sports entertainment whatever you want to call it
06:31yeah it's about respect respect respect that you command respect that you earn respect that you fight
06:41for yeah so when you have someone that you have so much respect for besides you or against you
06:50just the stakes go so high yeah and emotions rise and this emotions which is something that's what we do
07:01yeah we generate emotions that's what we do yes we do wrestling we do sports entertainment we do this
07:08we do that but yeah at the at the core we generate emotions we put smiles on people's faces sometimes we
07:16make them mad but usually we put smiles on people's faces so this emotion this natural real emotion
07:23of respect or disrespect if it's genuine the audience the w universe they get it yeah they feel it
07:34and so they're with you on the ride can you imagine this this weekend me and ray tagging together
07:41we're so into it we're so happy the crowd was into it so it was just amazing and that
07:48that's exactly what's going to happen at summer slam at summer slam yes sir you uh you played a big
07:56role at wrestlemania your first wrestlemania in la uh which which probably what people said was like
08:02you know the second or third biggest match of the whole weekend which is a lot to say when you
08:06think about some of the people that were on that card so what are you hoping to do um at summer slam
08:11here in fourth field um you know later on this summer well first of all and let me just say this
08:17and i don't know if you guys knew but it's been 30 years since wwe isn't there in detroit you know
08:26yeah for summer slam for summer slam and it's gonna be big i'm telling you yeah i'll tell you
08:34something the way i see every show every show any given show be it friday night smackdown monday night
08:41raw saturday night main event sunday stunner any event or show i see it as a party yeah it's just a
08:51party you know but here's the thing you want to be invited to the party yeah you you don't want to
08:58miss out on any parties of course the biggest party of the year wrestlemania yeah but summer slam
09:05that's the that's that's a party you don't want to miss that biggest party of the summer right so in
09:11my case lwo yeah we got to be there like we got to be there yeah so right now we we got beef with
09:20judgment day and i don't know if you watched monday night raw i did i guess i guess we're gonna have
09:26a situation going on here with with the bloodline which is fine i'm fine with it uh you know uh we
09:33share a lot of uh similarities with bloodline specifically the name bloodline we're bloodline
09:41luchadores too uh we come from tradition and family so i like that respect respect like you said too
09:48that is always comes back to the respect yeah and and uh r-e-s-p-e-c-t my man
09:55so you know you combined it yes sir you got to uh you know you talked about you know working
10:01alongside ray have you ever wrestled him and if not is that something that you want to do
10:06before you hanged it up yes i've wrestled him uh before in mexico um a couple of times here in the
10:14states but never in wwe the first time we we did wrestle was a uh a fade of four-way match
10:20oh wow uh a couple months ago uh on smackdown and and here's the thing you know when i when i
10:30wrestled him before uh it was outside of wwe it was just you know just matches big matches or dream
10:36matches as they're called of course but when i got here to wwe i wanted to take his legacy and make
10:46it mine yeah that's how that's how i was educated as a warrior as a fighter who's the champion who's
10:55the best go up against him and take what's his and make it yours yeah and and i gotta confess that's
11:02what i wanted i wanted just to go through him and become i call myself the emperor of lucha libre
11:08and that's a that's a homage to to the aztec empire uh that's why i call myself so i wanted to
11:17manifest myself as the emperor of lucha libre in wwe and to do that i had to go through him yeah
11:23there's no other way but then when when i finally had the opportunity to go up against him
11:31in the wwe ring i realized me gene that what i had for him was nothing but respect and admiration
11:39yeah now after that match ensued i decided to do something that represents the ultimate sign of
11:46respect for mexican luchadores i gave him my mask yeah yeah and in return he gave me his mask
11:54and that creates a bond that's unbreakable yeah from that point on me and my group legado del
12:03fantasma we decided that we was going to be with ray we was going to have his back and we won't let
12:10no one disrespect him yeah and that's how this lwo situation came about because he said if we're
12:16going to do that we're going to do it in style yeah and this is the result of that and now we're repping
12:23and not just the lwo lwo is for life and it's for everyone yeah the latino way of seeing things
12:34the latino way of tackling things of just going through everything the way we are if you identify
12:45with who we are or what we represent or what we're about then you are lwo yeah that's it that's it
