00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10All right, this is Military Monday.
00:12We get to honor two people today for Military Monday, and we have their mom on the phone right now, Michelle.
00:16Good morning, Michelle. How are you doing?
00:18I'm great. How are you?
00:19I'm doing good. So you must be a proud mama because we get to honor your sons, Austin and William, this morning, right?
00:24Yeah, they're two really great kids.
00:27Well, okay, they serve in our military. Tell us what branch and what their ranks are.
00:32They are both in the Army. Austin joined right out of high school, and right now he is a staff sergeant, so he's an E6.
00:40Okay.
00:41And then William waited a little bit longer, and he joined at 25, and he is a specialist, so he's an E4, I believe.
00:50Okay. So, Michelle, what do you think your boy's calling was to join the military?
00:55I mean, is this something that runs in the family?
00:57Yeah, they both have grandparents and aunts and uncles that were in the military.
01:03I know Austin's actually from a long line of Navy people, and William, he actually has always grown up.
01:11My father-in-law was an airborne ranger in Vietnam and Korea, so William always grew up going to, like, the best ranger competitions and stuff like that.
01:24So, he's always loved. He actually got lucky and got to go on an honor flight with his grandpa to D.C. and be his guardian, because at the time, Rex, I think, was 92.
01:36Oh, that's so cool.
01:37Yeah. So, they both have family ties and decided that the Army was the place they wanted to be.
01:44Well, I just love hearing about the calling, and then we got to talk to you about your feelings. I mean, obviously, you are proud of your sons and how they serve our country. I mean, how do you get through that whole thought process of, like, well, I got two sons who are serving my country, but there does come, you know, a danger with that?
02:00Oh, absolutely. And like you said, it's mixed emotions, because you are really proud. I mean, the number of people that are willing to sacrifice, you know, not only their time, but their life for something greater than themselves is small.
02:16And to have two of them is really pretty cool. But I, you know, I mean, I just hope that they're always being looked after, and they're prepared for whatever's coming. Austin did spend 10 months in Korea, and that kept you up at night sometimes.
02:34And then William's actually leaving for Korea, so it seems to be kind of the rite of passage as you get to go sit in North Korea with all that going on over there.
02:43Yeah. Well, we'll be praying for both of them, and we are so thankful for both of them. And Michelle, we're thankful for your sacrifices, and we understand that it is tough as their mom.
02:53A small token of our appreciation, we'd love to give you a $100 Visa gift card from Stingray Chevrolet. Maybe you guys can have a meal together at some point.
03:02But just as a small way for us to say thank you for their service, and thank you for you.
03:06Oh, that's amazing. I know they will appreciate that immensely.
03:10Well, again, we appreciate them. Thanks so much, Michelle.
03:12Thank you, JR.
03:13You got it. If you want to nominate someone for Military Monday or First Responder Friday, please let us know about that loved one in your life. Just nominate them at 995QIK.com.
