00:00You know, when I moved here to the South, I thought for sure the Carolinas had some of the best barbecue around.
00:07No doubt. North and South Carolina have a barbecue vibe.
00:11But I feel like in American barbecue, the Carolinas, like, we're almost like the redheaded stepkids, right?
00:18Like, we never get our due credit.
00:22No, we just talked about a list a couple weeks ago that didn't have either a North or South Carolina city in it for best barbecue.
00:29But they had, like, New Orleans.
00:32Well, there's another list of the best barbecue cities, and we didn't make it again.
00:37Oh, what? That's an F, dude. Who wrote this?
00:41So, to be fair, this is from Lawn Starters, so take it with a grain of salt.
00:47Yeah, Lawn people know their barbecue, Loren. Don't make the connection.
00:51Okay. Well, they looked at a couple different things.
00:56They had, like, 14 Hallmark things that they were looking at, and just a few of them were award-winning barbecue restaurants, chefs, experienced hosting in MasterChef competitions, barbecue festivals, and high fan ratings.
01:11We have all of it.
01:12Well, buddy, I got bad news.
01:16We didn't make it?
01:17We did not make it.
01:18Give me the dumb cities who did make it.
01:21Okay.
01:21What cities can we travel out of the Carolinas to go get good barbecue?
01:25Do you want the top five or the top ten?
01:27Top five is sufficient.
01:28Yeah.
01:29Okay. Memphis, number five.
01:30Memphis is really good, and probably five is too low for them.
01:33They need to be higher than that.
01:35Cincinnati.
01:36No!
01:37Cincinnati, Ohio, where Roy moved to.
01:39No wonder why he moved.
01:40Better barbecue.
01:42Kid knows his meats.
01:43Houston, Texas.
01:45Houston does have good barbecue.
01:46Do they?
01:46Yeah.
01:47I've never been to Houston.
01:49Chicago.
01:51Two?
01:52The second best barbecue in the countries in Chicago?
01:56It cannot be.
01:57Like, that cannot be, right?
01:59Oh, I hate Illinois.
02:03I really hate Illinois.
02:05Now I hate Illinois more.
02:07All right.
02:08And then the number one spot, of course, went to Kansas City.
02:11Really?
02:12Yeah.
02:13I've heard Kansas City has good barbecue.
02:15Yeah.
02:15But I think it's a different kind of barbecue than what we have, too.
02:19I need to hear the rest, though.
02:20Give us ten, because I'm shocked at Chicago.
02:23Who else did they put in there?
02:25I don't know where this is, but Overland Park, Kansas.
02:28Yeah, that's a city outside of Kansas.
02:31That would be like Fort Mill, South Carolina to Kansas City.
02:34Number nine is Minneapolis.
02:37No.
02:38Number eight is New York City.
02:41No.
02:42They have a place called Dinosaur Barbecue that's, like, just okay.
02:48First of all, Dinosaur Barbecue.
02:50Yeah, it's not bad.
02:51Okay.
02:52Upper West Side.
02:53Yeah, St. Louis and then Louisville.
02:56St. Louis, I've heard.
02:57Louisville, I've heard.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Memphis made it.
02:59That's good.
02:59I mean, gosh dang, Charlotte needs to be in there.
03:04I can't believe it's not.
03:05Holy cow.
03:08I'm trying to think.
03:09Like, well, at least I didn't go L.A.
03:11Oh, my gosh.
03:12I mean, I feel like New York City is a little L.A.-ish, you know?
03:17Yeah.
03:17Like, New York City, you're getting the best barbecue around in New York City.
03:20But they said based on festivals.
03:24Yeah.
03:25So it was award-winning barbecue restaurants, chefs, experienced hosting of master-level
03:30competitions.
03:32We have Jack Arnold here.
03:33I know.
03:34Well, I guess he's not competing in competitions.
03:36He could be.
03:37Jack Arnold is a chef of the stars.
03:39That's right.
03:40And Loren.
03:42But barbecue festivals are then high fan ratings.
03:44Of course we have the high fan ratings.
03:46Don't make me go back through our text messages and go find all the great barbecue places
03:50around Charlotte.
03:51And what do you want me to start?
03:52Max Speed Shop?
03:54Improper Pig?
03:56Yeah.
03:56Jim and Nick's?
03:58I still have to go to Jim and Nick's.
03:59Queen City Q.
04:03What am I missing, Nicole?
04:05Okay, but just humor me in this, right?
04:08Like, we live here.
04:09We love, because Carolina barbecue is more like a vinegar base, right?
04:13Okay.
04:14Okay.
04:14So maybe the vinegar-based barbecue doesn't translate to the rest of the country?
04:19I don't know.
04:20I know that we have a beef with the beef, though.
