00:00There was about five or six C.J. Stroud references yesterday.
00:04Reggie acting like C.J. Stroud is Mahomes.
00:07These are two old-time players, and Steph Curry is pointing to him,
00:12and he just knows how to rise to the occasion.
00:15Look, C.J. had a really nice playoff win his rookie year.
00:18He hasn't done a lot in the NFL.
00:21Like, okay, like, is that a nice little Steph Curry?
00:25He was, like, comparing the two like they were equals in their sports.
00:29I know what he's trying to do, but it was like, come on, Reg.
00:32You're reaching.
00:33I give these Houston Rockets about the same chance I gave those Houston Texans
00:37against the Kansas City Chiefs.
00:39Slim to none.
00:40How about that?
00:40That's about what I got for them.
00:42Was there a moment in the fourth quarter, especially in the late third quarter,
00:45they had a 14-point lead.
00:47Did you feel like the game was in the balance at any point when the lead started to evaporate?
00:52It became a two-possession game multiple times.
00:54It got close.
00:55It got close.
00:56I still didn't think they had the guy to shoot the ball late to get them over the top, though.
01:01Throughout that whole run, I get it.
01:03A lot of Warriors fans are getting nervous.
01:04I don't view it as that hyper-focused fan.
01:07Again, the fan in you, I get it.
01:09But for me, I was just taking a step back, looking at it objectively.
01:12Like, they don't have the guy to put them over the top.
01:15They just don't.
01:16Like, who are you trusting on that team to take the last shot, Joe, for the Houston Rockets?
01:19Who do you fear them taking the last shot?
01:21Well, Van Vliet, because he's done it against you before.
01:23I mean, listen to what I'm saying.
01:25That was six years ago.
01:26Yeah, we're talking about Fred Van Vliet.
01:28I mean, how many players in the league would I name before I got to him, league-wide?
01:32And again, I will respect the high-level moments he's had in the playoffs, but that was against, you know, the Warriors six years ago.
01:39And that was a different team.
01:40That was a Raptors team that had, you know, the likes of, you know, Kawhi Leonard at the time.
01:45Or they had, they had, who's my guy that's over in the Pacers?
01:48Serge Ibaka.
01:49Serge Ibaka.
01:50Well, I can't even think of the guy that's there.
01:51Norman Powell.
01:52Siakam.
01:52There you go.
01:53Pascal Siakam, who's I was trying to think.
01:54Pascal Siakam.
01:55Yes.
01:55Big win for them, by the way, the Pacers, over the weekend.
01:57You know, Joe, there's, look, I don't want to harp on it too much, because they're going to have to make some adjustments.
02:01But I looked at some of the lineups down the stretch, and I just, I didn't love some of the combinations.
02:07So, to me, I think part of the feeling out process of a seven-game series is, hey, this is working, this isn't working.
02:14And what's working in game one might not work come game two, three, four, five, six, right?
02:18So, there's, you're always tinkering, but it's, they're up 14, 16, back and forth.
02:24It's a Jimmy, Buddy Heald, Looney, GP2, Steph lineup.
02:30And it just felt kind of clunky, okay?
02:34It just felt kind of clunky.
02:36Then they sub out GP2, and they sub out Steph Curry.
02:40And it was very briefly.
02:41This is two minutes to go in the third quarter.
02:44It's 55-68 when they sub him out.
02:46Now, again, it's very quick.
02:48You have Guy, Looney, Jimmy, Pods, Heald.
02:53That's a no-no for me.
02:55That's a no-no.
02:56I'll say it again.
02:57Guy, Looney, Jimmy, Pods, and Heald.
03:00It was, you had multiple just, ugh, possessions, all right?
03:05And look, it was quick.
03:07He only did it for about a minute.
03:09And then he subs in Quinn Post.
03:11So, at one point to end the third quarter, you had Post, Looney,
03:16which I'm not mad at him for trying two bigs.
03:19Post, Looney, Jimmy, Pods, Heald.
03:22And that was just a giant dud of a lineup.
03:25Now, maybe you go back to it.
03:27I don't know.
03:28But immediately, he subs in Steph Curry and Guy Santos
03:31and yanks out Buddy Heald and Kevon Looney to kind of finish that third quarter.
03:37It's 60-69.
03:39And I'm thinking to myself, this is a rock fight.
03:41This first couple of minutes of this fourth quarter are extremely important to me.
03:46Extremely important.
03:46They start the fourth quarter Post, Dre, Steph, GP2, Pods.
03:53And that wasn't great either.
03:55Even though they got up to a 10-point lead.
03:57They subbed Jimmy back in.
03:59And with the Jimmy lineup.
04:01So, it's Jimmy, Dre, Steph, GP2, Pods.
04:05It becomes a 73-76 game in basically five minutes.
04:09Yep.
04:10It was a slow burn for sure.
04:12And I think it was just painful to watch because most of it was just self-inflicted.
04:15They were forcing things they didn't need to force.
04:17They were careless.
04:18They couldn't get, I was mentioning Buddy Butterfingers.
04:21I was like, they couldn't get the loose balls.
04:22And they needed them to continue possessions.
04:24And again, credit to Houston Rockets.
04:26They're really good defensively.
04:27Like, that is something they're going to hang their hat on.
04:30Yes.
04:30They're not going to get punked in any of these games.
04:32They just can't shoot the ball.
04:33No.
04:33Like, that's my biggest takeaway from that game yesterday.
04:36And what's yours at 888-957-9570?
04:39We're going to get to Dominic and Berkeley here in just a second.
04:40I want to give Steve Kerr credit.
04:43As clunky as those lineups were to end the third, with seven minutes to go, he subs Moses Moody
04:49back in.
04:49And I thought, that's the play.
04:51Because GP2 rushed a three-pointer in the corner, which I know why he thinks he's got
04:56to take that shot.
04:57It's a little early in the shot clock for me.
04:58And I just, whatever.
05:00He was the only warrior, if you're doing plus minus, in the minus category, he was a minus
05:0410.
05:04But I didn't think he was a minus 10 as a player yesterday at GP2.
05:07But it's a tight game.
05:08And that's why I want to bring this up.
05:10Moody gets subbed in for GP2.
05:12It's 73-76.
05:14All right?
05:15He immediately hits a jump shot on a late shot clock situation, a 14-footer.
05:20And then Curry hits a sweet three-pointer, and then Moody gets a huge rebound, and then
05:26they end up turning it over.
05:27But Moody was a very big player down the stretch.
05:31And then with under four minutes to go, he hits a three-pointer in the corner, which, again,
05:35it kind of propelled them.
05:37I don't think you're getting that from GP2.
05:38And I want to give Kerr credit for playing Moody in that spot, because I felt like they
05:43needed some offense.
05:44And I'm really happy for Moses Moody to, A, get an opportunity to get back in there, and
05:48then make the most of that opportunity.
05:50Those are big shots for him.
05:52And if they're going to go anywhere, Moody's got to find his shot.
05:55And his first-ever playoff start, too, for Moses Moody, as well as Brandon Pajemski.
05:59And they showed up big time in big moments yesterday.
06:02And that's one of the question marks heading into the series.
06:04And really what the playoffs is going to be for this team.
06:06That's going to be the question.
06:08Can those other guys step up?
06:10Because we saw what Jimmy's going to do.
06:12We saw what Steph's going to do.
06:14Draymond, can he give you anything scoring?
06:16Only four points for him yesterday.
06:17You've got to think he's going to have a game in this series at some point where he gets
06:20the ball and he can score a little bit more.
06:22Again, Pajemski, Moody.
06:24Is there going to be a Quentin Poe situation?
06:25Guy Santos here or there.
06:27Buddy, again, only two points for Buddy Heald yesterday.
06:30He needs to hit some of these threes.
06:31He was 0 for 2 yesterday.
06:33And he's got to think that's baked in the equation at some point in this series and going
06:36forward.
06:36If they're going to go anywhere where they want to go, Joe, what's the vision?
06:39Those guys have got to step up offensively.
06:42They absolutely have to.
06:43And I just I'm really happy for Moses Moody because, you know, he has not shot the ball
06:47well over like a pretty big still really hasn't.
06:50But he hit big shots yesterday.
06:51He did.
06:52Those are confidence builders.
06:53Those are huge for him.
06:54And I think that it could have easily been him getting ice out down the stretch.
06:58And I want to give Kirk credit because, again, I didn't love some of the combinations to end
07:03the third and like in the fourth, you were playing your best lineup, that GP2 pods, Dre,
07:09Jimmy, Steph lineup.
07:11And it wasn't it wasn't performing.
07:13He subbed in Moses Moody and then instantly he rewarded him with hitting some big shots.
07:18And I think that those are big building blocks for him.
07:21Dominic Berkley.
07:23Good morning, Dominic.
07:24Dominic.
07:24How are we feeling about that win yesterday?
07:26What's your confidence level looking like, Dominic, after a huge 95-85 win to go up 1-0
07:31in this series?
07:31Good morning.
07:32Let me tell you this, man.
07:33Let me tell you this.
07:34We all are excited.
07:37But honestly, you know, the Rockets is not the number two seed, man.
07:46They wind up getting there.
07:47They are.
07:48But I think between what was happening with the Warriors, Timberwolves, it's a sleeper team
07:55to me.
07:57That's the team that they have to watch out for.
07:59You know, we have to allow Kerr to go ahead and play this chess match, man, because it's
08:04all match-up.
08:05Look what happened when they put Adams in there.
08:08I mean, he was just killing it.
08:09Okay.
08:10They're going to go ahead and make the adjustments, man.
08:13I just think that everybody needs to calm down.
08:16Steph, Draymond, Jimmy, they've been there.
08:19And those guys are going to come through, man.
08:21They're not going to always hit all the shots.
08:23But in the moments that they really need it, they're going to hit them, man.
08:26So what are we calming down?
08:28I'm a little confused.
08:29What are we calming down?
08:31The excitement or calming down the negativity?
08:34I'm a little confused.
08:36Like, I'm talking about, like, I'm listening to you guys.
08:40I don't like what Kerr does.
08:41The match-ups.
08:43It's a chess match, man.
08:45It's just really a chess match, and everybody just have to calm down and let
08:48Kerr go ahead and do it.
08:50Oh, yeah.
08:50I mean, the guy has, I mean, we won 100 games, man.
08:54Hey, Dominic, were we trashing Steve Kerr at all today?
08:58I don't think we are.
08:59Are you watching people do that after yesterday's win?
09:04No, no, no.
09:05It's not a trash.
09:06Everybody's just expressing the dislikes and likes of some of the movements
09:10and some of the starters and stuff like that.
09:14All I got to say, man, is we need to be proud of the Warriors.
09:19Since Jimmy has got here, man, it's a whole different dynamic.
09:22Everything worked out the way that it was supposed to work,
09:25and I'm glad that they fell in the seventh seed.
09:27Just think if they had won, it would be totally different right now.
09:31Well, I would agree with you also on the team, Dominic.
09:34Look, we got our eyeball on that matchup because that would be who the Warriors
09:37play now.
09:37Correct.
09:38So the Warriors and T-Wolves are the only road teams to win in game one
09:41over the weekend.
09:42The only two road teams, the Clippers, probably, they tricked it off.
09:45I thought they should have won that game, but they didn't.
09:47Credit the Nuggets.
09:47I'm so glad we're not playing both of those.
09:49That's going to be a dogfight of a series.
09:52That's going to win.
09:53That's the one where actually OKC is probably looking like, oh, great.
09:56Yeah, you two just go out of each other.
09:57We'll pick up the scraps and blow you guys out in game one again.
10:00But here's the thing.
10:00They have a lot of veterans in both, like the Clippers and the Nugs,
10:03and I don't want to get too deep in it, but there's a lot of veterans on the court
10:07for both teams.
10:07A lot of high playoff minutes.
10:10He's been in the league a long time.
10:12You know what I mean?
10:12A lot of those guys on both sides know how to win games in the playoffs.
10:16So we'll get to that.
10:17But that Laker-Minnesota matchup would be who the Warriors would face.
10:20We've got to get through Houston, though.
10:22Was that the most surprising of the weekend, probably,
10:24what Minnesota did to the Lakers?
10:26Were you surprised by that?
10:28I actually thought Orlando putting up the fight that they did against Boston.
10:32The final score doesn't indicate how close that game was.
10:34And Palo looked sick.
10:36I love Palo being careful.
10:37Well, I mean, Tatum hurt his wrist.
10:38You know, that's something to monitor.
10:41Nick's Pistons was fun.
10:42That was a good one.
10:43That was a dogfight.
10:44Yeah, yeah.
10:46It was just fun seeing Detroit again.
10:47They were so awful this last decade-plus.
10:49They actually have hope.
10:50So again, I know round one, like in game one weekends of the NBA playoffs,
10:55it's not the same as super wildcard weekend.
10:58It's not even close.
10:59But that win for the Warriors was a shot across the bow
11:01because you had the opportunity, like, think about it this way.
11:05Had they lost that game, how big of a, wow, you had this one in your hands
11:09and you lost it.
11:11Now I got it.
11:11We got to fight in our way.
11:12What a suck.
11:13Fight back and win game two.
11:15Now it's like house money.
11:16And I think all the pressure now goes directly to the Houston Rockets.
11:19And obviously the Warriors are going to have to make certain adjustments
11:22to slow them down.
11:23I'm just not sure what their offensive adjustments are to free things up.
11:27Warriors are going to stay in multiple zones
11:29throughout the bulk of the second, third quarters.
11:32And I don't know where they're going to get shots from.
11:34Well, we had, who was it?
11:36Adam Wexler, who joined us last week.
11:37He does the pre and post for the radio side for Houston Rockets.
11:40He joined Bonte and I.
11:41And he said the series is going to come down to Jalen Green.
11:44If Jalen Green can score efficiently, the Rockets can win this series.
11:49Well, we saw what it was in game one.
11:51Three of 15 in 31 minutes for Jalen Green.
11:550 of 4 from beyond the arc.
11:57Seven points.
11:57A big, fat poo-poo.
11:59It was horrible.
12:00Let me give you his last five games.
12:04Now, a Warrior game is in there where he scored 21.
12:07His best game ever against the Warriors.
12:10He played the Clippers.
12:12He scored five points.
12:13He played the Lakers.
12:15He scored seven points.
12:16He played Denver.
12:18He scored two points.
12:20He played the Warriors in this game one.
12:22He scored seven points.
12:23And those are all Western Conference.
12:24Exactly.
12:25Those are all big boy veteran games.
12:26Sophisticated, veteran teams that know what you want to do.
12:29Correct.
12:30This is not the Utah Jazz.
12:32No.
12:33And, well, Dominic did say something about them being, like, the two-seed and, like, saying, like,
12:36well, they're not really the two-seed.
12:37I did kind of feel like that watching yesterday.
12:39Because, again, on paper, they are the two-seed.
12:42And I'm going to give them credit for that.
12:44Because they had to take the regular season seriously.
12:46A lot of these teams, like the Lakers, for example.
12:48Not that they don't.
12:49I'm not trying to say they don't take the regular season seriously.
12:52But it's not the end-all, be-all.
12:53No.
12:54They're setting themselves up because they know the most important time is right now.
12:57The Warriors, the Clippers.
13:00Celtics.
13:01Celtics.
13:02Like, and again, the Celtics and Cavs, I'll push away.
13:04Because they can win no matter what.
13:06Because they have the depth and the talent to do so.
13:07Yeah.
13:08But it's not like the Celtics were fighting tooth and nail for months on end.
13:10No, they weren't.
13:11But they do have youth on their side with their two best players, too.
13:14Sure.
13:14I'll look at the Warriors and the Lakers in particular.
13:16They have a lot of older guys.
13:17They're kind of their best players, albeit Luka is now there with LeBron.
13:21Yeah, they're in, like, chief mode.
13:22They can cruise at times.
13:24So, and a young team, a team that's trying to prove themselves,
13:27is just going to take the regular season a bit more seriously at times.
13:30And they are younger and fresher.
13:31And they're going to win.
13:32So, by virtue of all of that, they are the two-seed.
13:35But I kind of heard Dominic where it's like, eh, kind of fraudulent.
13:40A little bit.
13:41A little bit.
13:41I felt like they were a fraudulent two-seed watching that game yesterday.
13:45I did.
13:45I did.
13:46Well, again, the regular season is different from the playoffs.
13:48Like, the regular season is just its own unique.
13:53You're playing 82 games.
13:55You don't play the same opponent in back-to-back games.
13:58You're flying in and out.
14:00And then you get into the regular season, right?
14:02I mean, the playoffs, excuse me.
14:03You get into the playoffs, and it's seven games against the exact same team.
14:07We get to adjust.
14:08We get to practice.
14:08There's days off in between.
14:10It could not be more different regular season of playoffs.
14:13Like, at least in baseball, you play three-game set against this team, a four-game set against that team, a three-game set against that team.
14:21And so, a seven-game series, there is some semblance of that throughout the regular season.
14:26The NBA regular season is all over the place.
14:30And then you get into the playoffs, and it's a complete—it's officiated different.
14:34It's played different.
14:36The practice level is different.
14:37The planning is different.
14:39The rotations are different.
14:41Like, everything about it is different.
14:43So, yeah, it doesn't resemble the regular season at all.
14:46888-957-9570, same number to call or text.
14:49The Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line.
14:52Your confidence level after that game is what?
14:54And also, Dub Nation.
14:57Jimmy Butler is a Golden State Warrior.
14:59What a game.
15:0025 points.
15:01What a game.
15:02Six assists, five steals.
15:05How many rebounds?
15:06Seven form, but three offensive, which felt huge.
15:09Yeah.
15:10Like, every single—and real quick, the offensive rebound disparity in this game.
15:14This is another thing if I'm the Houston Rockets waking up this morning, and I'm a Rockets fan.
15:18It's like, man, we dominated the class.
15:20We out-rebounded them 22—offensive rebounded them 22-6.
15:26We had 22 offensive—
15:27But I thought that the Warriors—
15:28We had 22 offensive rebounds.
15:30It wasn't enough.
15:31Read me off the guard rebounding totals for the Warriors, because I thought Pods, Curry, GP2—
15:37I thought they did a really good job on the loose balls.
15:39Steph had six defensive rebounds.
15:41Pods had seven defensive rebounds.
15:43That's 13.
15:44Draymond Green, obviously, five.
15:45How about Buddy?
15:46Buddy Heald, he had one.
15:48Quinton Post had one.
15:49Keith Santos had one.
15:49I know guards you're looking for.
15:50Gary Payton had three.
15:51Okay.
15:52So there you go.
15:52But they did.
15:53I mean, that's 15 from your guards.
15:55Like, that's a really good—the really good game plan.
15:57And then I just look at, like, guard production for Houston.
16:00And if Van Vliet—Van Vliet and Green are going to play that way, they have no chance.
16:06They have no chance.
16:08What gives you more confidence?
16:09I'll ask this question.
16:11Was it the combination of Stephen Curry and Jimmy Buckets yesterday combining for 56 points?
16:18Or was it the defensive performance?
16:19Because for me, like, I get it.
16:21Those two are special.
16:22That was awesome.
16:23It was their first playoff game together.
16:24I'm going away from that game saying that interior defense that they showed against that long, big, athletic team that can't shoot the ball.
16:31Like, that is what I'm coming away with.
16:34They held them to 85 points yesterday, Joe.
16:36That was their lowest of the season for Houston scoring the ball.
16:4085 points.
16:41And that's the lowest they've held an opponent all season long, the Warriors.
16:44And the first half was the least that they had given up all year.
16:48Dude, they held them to 34 points.
16:51It was—
16:5234.
16:52I was watching 2001 NBA basketball again.
16:55I thought it was the Pistons.
16:57Right?
16:57The early—
16:58I thought it was Ben Wallace and Coe.
17:00I said to you guys, and I couldn't believe I said this, I go, 87's going to win this game.
17:04I think I said that at the start of the fourth quarter.
17:06And you guys all looked at me like I could feel it.
17:09It's like, this didn't respond.
17:10We didn't.
17:11These guys think I'm an idiot.
17:12I was like, no, I really think 87 points wins this game.
17:15And you had Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry.
17:17And then you had the big shots from Moses Moody again.
17:20Like, you have the greatest shooter in the history of the sport on your team.
17:24And they're throwing out Fred Van Vliet.
17:26I'm sorry.
17:27I'm sorry.
17:27I'm just going to keep coming back to that.
17:29It is what it is.
17:30But the other aspect to this is that the Warriors can shoot better when it comes to the hands.
17:34Yes.
17:35Quinton could have a moment or at least a quarter.
17:38Buddy—God, can his buddy just do something?
17:40They're not going to be facing if they advance of defense, I believe, this ferocious and this physical going forward.
17:47Right?
17:47And so, I think Post—I would give Post another opportunity.
17:50Run it back.
17:51Let him shoot.
17:52He's got to keep shooting.
17:53And I think he needs to be aggressive.
17:55Buddy can hit a bucket.
17:56I need Potts to stay confident.
17:57We need Moody to build off what he did in that fourth quarter.
18:00Because I think if he can get to about 10 to 12 points, we're looking a lot better.
18:05GP2, continue to stay aggressive.
18:07If they can get contributions from the others, to me, the magic number is 100.
18:12If they're around 100 points, they're going to win every one of these games against the Rockets.
18:16It's when they're bottled up and Steph's not scoring and Jimmy's not scoring and then the others, it becomes more imperative that they have to contribute.
18:24I don't know if they can get that done.
18:26If it's in the 90s, in the 80s, that favors the Rockets.
18:29If you can be around 100, get the brooms ready.
18:33And speaking of that, holding the team to 85 points, Steve Kerr was damn proud of it.
18:37You know, they're the best team in the league in the possession game.
18:41You know, they got 11 more shots than we did tonight as a result of all those offensive boards.
18:47Now, we're going to turn them over, too.
18:49You know, and our defense is excellent.
18:51I mean, we just held a hell of a team to 85 points on their home floor.
18:55So, our defense is big time.
18:57And we're going to count on that.
18:58But we've got to recognize that we don't need to take chances in this series.
19:03We need to be clean with our execution and transition.
19:06We don't need to dribble through traffic.
19:08We don't need to throw lob passes, you know, to try to get a dunk.
19:13We've got to be rock solid.
19:15And if we're smart and tough, then I think we're going to be in good shape.
19:19And that is exactly what I came away thinking yesterday.
19:21Smart and tough, relying on your veterans and them setting the tone.
19:25That is what you need in a game one to calm the Moody's, the Pajemsky's, the Quinn Post,
19:30who did look shaky at times.
19:31All those guys.
19:32Buddy Heal did, too.
19:33Buddy Heal, it's not like he has a whole lot of playoff experience.
19:35He does.
19:36He was playing for the Kings for most of his career, for Christ's sake, right?
19:39Like, the New Orleans Pelicans.
19:41I took so much.
19:42I couldn't believe how much happiness I took out of watching the Kings lose.
19:46They're awful.
19:47Though the Kings fans were probably not enjoying themselves watching that Golden State Warriors
19:50performance last night by a college record.
