00:00If you were on a bad date, what would you do?
00:10How bad are we talking?
00:12He got piss drunk and went home sick.
00:15I had to clean up his vomit in the bathroom.
00:19He stopped on the side of the road and took piss right in front of me.
00:22There was no conversation. He was like this, on his phone.
00:26She just got up and walked out with me.
00:29I nearly killed a date once by accident.
00:32We went to the 44th for a swim.
00:34It turned around she was gone.
00:36And I literally just looked down and I had to pull her back up.
00:41I was on one date before where it went really well
00:43and then afterwards told me he had a girlfriend.
00:45Oh, God!
00:50When God created a woman for me
00:54He must have been in a beautiful mood
00:59Not everybody's cup of tea.
01:02My energy sometimes will be very full on.
01:07Because I'm a bit mad, you see.
01:09Oh me, oh my, you make me sigh
01:12You're such a good looking woman
01:16Tom is not your average Joe.
01:18Stylish and coordinated, Tom's in perfect harmony.
01:22With himself.
01:23Hello, how are you doing?
01:24How are you doing, mister?
01:25I'm great, how are you?
01:26Nice to see you.
01:27Your name, please?
01:28Tom.
01:29Mateo, nice to meet you.
01:30Why are you letting us find a date for you?
01:32That's an interesting question.
01:34Because it's pretty hard to find one myself.
01:36You like that?
01:37Have a look.
01:38How do you...
01:39I have a struggle how to do this properly.
01:41Oh, watch, watch.
01:42The tunes are different, I see.
01:44Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:46Clothes are me thing.
01:47It's all matching.
01:48It's all picking up.
01:49Would you do that for me, please?
01:50Gladly.
01:51That comes with experience, you know.
01:53To me it's great fun.
01:54You know, because I was big for a long time.
01:56So I was limited.
01:57All I could wear was navy, black or grey.
02:00It's the little accoutrements that finish off the thing nicely for you.
02:03Now, that's you.
02:05I 100% believe in myself.
02:09I am what I am.
02:10And I just be.
02:11I've been divorced for about 10 years.
02:13So I'm nearly fucking single again.
02:15You know.
02:16I'm a 23 year old trapped in a 53 year old's body.
02:19But don't tell any of the girls that.
02:21That's your luck, you know what I mean?
02:23They have to be young in spirit and young at heart.
02:25So obviously they have to be nice and attractive and pretty and all that type of stuff.
02:29Oh!
02:30Oh, bloody hell!
02:32This is Amy.
02:36She's hoping to meet someone just like herself.
02:39You know.
02:40Single.
02:41Have you been on a blind date before?
02:42Years ago.
02:43And it was good fun.
02:44But after it, his girlfriend was waiting outside for him.
02:47So, I don't know.
02:48That wasn't good.
02:52Hello.
02:53Welcome.
02:54How are you?
02:55What's your name, Adam?
02:56Amy.
02:57Mateo, nice to meet you, Amy.
02:58Pleasure, pleasure.
02:59Pleasure is all mine.
03:00Nice to meet you also.
03:01I'd like to meet someone who has the same energy as what I have.
03:04That's really what I'm looking for.
03:06You ready to date, yeah?
03:07Looking forward to it.
03:08A man's man.
03:10Successful.
03:11Intelligent.
03:12Smartly dressed.
03:13Confident.
03:14With a good sense of humour now.
03:16But I love confidence.
03:17I think it's great.
03:18Hi, how are you?
03:20Nice to meet you.
03:21And likewise, Tom.
03:22Lovely to meet you.
03:23I'm Amy.
03:24Amy, lovely to meet you.
03:25Nice to meet you, Tom.
03:26Hello.
03:27You look great.
03:28Thanks for you.
03:29You're looking well yourself now, to be fair.
03:31Hello, how are you?
03:32You've got a proper gentleman here, huh?
03:33Yes.
03:34Absolutely.
03:35Would you like a drink?
03:36Can I get a Sauvignon vlog, please?
03:37You can, of course.
03:38Absolutely.
03:39Where are you from now, yourself?
03:40I'm from Dublin.
03:41We did a bit of trekking around when I was a kid.
03:43I grew up behind a bar counter, so I'd show this fella thing or two.
03:46Yeah.
03:47Jump behind there now and give it a go.
03:48That's just from the bottom here.
03:49Yeah, yeah.
03:50No.
03:51No, no.
03:52I want to stay with Amy.
03:53Do you think you're good at reading, if she likes you?
03:56You get a vibe, but sometimes you can misread it.
03:59Cheers.
04:00Cheers.
04:01Cheers.
04:02You do get excited, like, with somebody really nice.
04:04And then, you know, you're kind of going, okay.
04:07She's now in the Jacks for the last 20 minutes.
04:09Does that mean she's not coming back?
04:11Fuck.
04:12I'm going to take you to the table, if that's all right.
04:14Super.
04:15Yeah?
04:16Lovely to meet you, folks.
04:17Have a good day.
04:18Thank you very much.
04:19You're very good.
04:20Cheers.
04:21Cheers.
04:22Hey, how are we?
04:32That was very Sharon Stone.
04:36The only way to avoid irreconcilable differences is total recall.
04:43And that is Cillian's basic instinct.
04:46Have you ever ghosted someone?
04:47Oh, my God, hardly.
04:48That's so disrespectful.
04:50That's literally abandonment, like.
04:54Hello.
04:55Hey, what's up?
04:56How are you?
04:57What's your name, please?
04:58Cillian.
04:59Nice to meet you, Cillian.
05:00Nice to meet you.
05:01Hi, Cillian.
05:02Are you my date?
05:03You wish.
05:05I'm looking for someone who can show me a good time, make me laugh.
05:10It's desperate out there.
05:11There's not a lot of good guys, so if you can find one for me, you've done God's work.
05:15I went to a concert at the weekend about a festival.
05:18Are you a little ropey?
05:19I had a coffee, so, like, I'm fine now.
05:21Oh, well, fair play to you for making it in here today.
05:24Cheers.
05:25It has to be done.
05:27It has to be done, yeah.
05:28That will obviously help the nerves, so don't worry.
05:31Will you do another?
05:32Another one, yeah?
05:33Yeah.
05:34I love it.
05:35Good.
05:36We're here for a good time.
05:37Well, this is it, you know?
05:39There we go.
05:40Perfect.
05:41Now, nerves gone, yeah?
05:43No, I think I need another.
05:45Do you want to do another one?
05:46No, no, no.
05:47That would be fire too much.
05:49I'll do another one with him if he wants one.
05:51Yeah, do, yeah, yeah.
05:52That would be a good icebreaker for the two of you as well.
05:54Yeah.
05:55And get him with the same buzz, you know?
05:56Yeah, I love saying.
06:01In 2006, I would have separated from my husband.
06:04We were married for 15 years.
06:05Yeah.
06:06And then we divorced in 2012.
06:08Okay.
06:09Because, you know, the way you have to be four out of the last five years, you know, separate before.
06:12Oh, I didn't know the technicality.
06:13Yeah, at that time.
06:14When I left, that was it.
06:15I just said, okay, look, whatever you want, I won't hold it.
06:17That's fine, that's grand.
06:18That's great.
06:19I'd get on well, and it's good to get on well with your ex.
06:21Do you ever feel lonely for a partner?
06:23For an intimate company, yes.
06:25Yeah.
06:26Both intellectually and physically, yeah, you do.
06:28Because I like to share.
06:29I'm very big on collaboration.
06:31I'm very big on getting people's opinions and chatting.
06:35So how are the balls, your feet, what the fuck do you think of that thing, you know?
06:38My ex-husband is now remarried, so I would know his new wife as well.
06:41Oh, wow.
06:42Great.
06:43Though some guys in the past are not happy, though, when you say that you get on okay with
06:46your ex.
06:47Some of them.
06:48Just, I just begs to, I don't know.
06:51Yeah, like the father of your children.
06:53Oh, fuck am I.
06:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:55I wouldn't say it like that.
06:56Your kids come first no matter what.
06:57They do, I know.
06:58Even when they're 50.
06:59They do, they do, you're right.
07:00Oh, yeah, yeah, that's fine.
07:01Yeah, they do.
07:02What it is you want from a relationship, has that changed for you?
07:06I would say it has in so far as I have obviously a lot more time on my hands now.
07:11I don't have young children anymore.
07:13So it would be all about getting out and about doing things together.
07:18I'd like us to enjoy things together and spend time with families.
07:22I mean, especially if my partner has a family, I think the blended family aspect of it is quite
07:27exciting for me.
07:28You have one child.
07:29I have two.
07:30I believe he felt he was 17.
07:31A little guy.
07:32Yeah, yeah.
07:33This fella is a, oh, here he is.
07:35They're on to the gym.
07:36Did he do a sleeping cert yet?
07:38No.
07:39He's gone into six years now this year.
07:40Right, yeah.
07:41So, and he wants to do physio.
07:43Right, my son started off doing that.
07:45Did he?
07:46How old is Ray now?
07:47Ray is 30.
07:48Okay.
07:49And my daughter is 32, Vanessa.
07:51And then she's little ones.
07:53I have four granddaughters.
07:55My daughter had her first little girl quite young.
07:58And it's just been the pinnacle, I think, of life in general was when my granddaughter
08:05was born.
08:06And I would say now to anyone whose daughter comes home and tells them that she's pregnant,
08:11it doesn't change things for, definitely not for the worse, it's not going to do that.
08:15But in my experience, it changed things for the better.
08:18It's just been wonderful.
08:19How old are the little ones?
08:20The little ones start at, well, little, big, fifteen-year-old down to five-year-old.
08:26Jess, I wouldn't have said you were a granny now, to be fair.
08:28Oh.
08:32What's your normal type?
08:33What do you normally go for?
08:34I don't really have a type.
08:35Someone who's interesting.
08:36Good.
08:43Alex is quite the catch, but one thing he finds hard to grasp is why he often slips
08:49through the net.
08:50I hope I am a good date.
08:52I try to be, because I'm always the one, like, trying to organise the date and have everything
08:57perfect.
08:58But maybe that makes me a bit too much of a try-hard.
09:02There's no, like, review section after a date.
09:04The guy just gives a little review.
09:05Was this person a good date?
09:06Yes or no?
09:07Hello.
09:08You're welcome.
09:09Your name, please?
09:10Alex.
09:11Alex.
09:12Mateo, nice to meet you, Alex.
09:13Nice to meet you.
09:14Are you ready to do some dating?
09:15Sure.
09:16I guess that's what I'm here for.
09:17Yeah, exactly.
09:18After a date, it's either ghosting or, yeah, it's not going to work out.
09:23Or the moment, my favourite thing that people would say to me, I'm not in the right headspace
09:27at the moment for it.
09:29No.
09:30Hello.
09:31I've been expecting you.
09:32Ooh.
09:33Hello.
09:34How are we?
09:35Alex.
09:36Nice to meet you.
09:37I'm Killian.
09:38How are you?
09:39I'm good.
09:40Just having a drink, yeah?
09:41Just to start me off.
09:42Oh.
09:43Hi, how are you?
09:44Hello.
09:45That's an amazing outfit.
09:47I like that you're both wearing matching necklaces.
09:49Matching styles.
09:50I mean, you look great.
09:52Black and white.
09:53Very black and white person.
09:54Where are you from?
09:55I'm from Limerick.
09:56Originally from Tip.
09:57I know a few people.
09:58Do you know anyone who goes to LSAD?
09:59I go to LSAD.
10:00Oh, Slay.
10:01What do you do?
10:02Fashion.
10:03I love going to college 9-9 and doing the things I have a passion for.
10:07Just finished second year, so still a long path ahead of me.
10:12I have my 10 years plan ahead, but I'm not rushing.
10:14Do you have a 10 years plan?
10:16I'm always ahead of myself.
10:18I have no plans.
10:19I literally don't have a plan for tomorrow.
10:21Let's see what happens.
10:23How are you?
10:24How are you doing?
10:25I'm good.
10:26I actually have a table ready for you if you're ready to head all over.
10:28Yeah, of course.
10:29Do you want to do a shot?
10:31I don't really do a shot.
10:33Okay, let's go.
10:35Guys, have a great date.
10:37Okay, lovely to meet you.
10:39Lovely to meet you.
10:40In his ongoing quest to find big love, Colm, from Dun Laoghaire, tends to avoid small talk.
10:56Ask me questions that you're genuinely interested in.
10:59I just dropped in.
11:01What's the meaning of happiness?
11:02Like, you know what I mean?
11:03What are the stars made of?
11:04Like, you know?
11:05Just really, really deep stuff, like.
11:07I said I just dropped in.
11:09It's just how we think.
11:10Like, I'm a philosopher.
11:11How are you doing?
11:12How are you doing?
11:13How are you doing?
11:14How are you doing?
11:15How are you doing?
11:16How are you doing?
11:17How are you doing?
11:18How are you doing?
11:19Very good.
11:20What's your name, my man?
11:21Colm.
11:22How are you doing?
11:23I think when you know, you know, when you meet someone, and it's just a connection,
11:26and a rapport, and, yeah, it just hasn't happened.
11:30What are you drinking?
11:31Colm's got a sparkling water.
11:32You can, of course, yeah.
11:33I'm just too busy with life, you know what I mean?
11:35Just training, walking, C-dipping, travelling, hiking, triathlons, jiu-jitsu.
11:42Oh, wow.
11:43I'm thinking you don't drink if you're having a sparkling water.
11:45Yeah, I'm not a big drinker.
11:46And you have all those hobbies.
11:47It seems you don't drink, you've got a lot of hobbies.
11:49Yeah, it's one extreme that you're a chronic alcoholic or a fucking extreme triathlete or
11:54something.
11:55I'll always be extreme.
11:57That's my try.
11:58But I'm going to channel it into the right things, you know?
12:02I've done Everest Base Camp.
12:03How was that?
12:04It was incredible, man.
12:05Such an amazing experience.
12:06Was this, like, life-changing, life-affirming?
12:08Well, I found myself, man.
12:09I found God.
12:10I found God.
12:23How are you both?
12:24Yeah, good.
12:25How are you getting on?
12:26Very good.
12:27You dig on fast it.
12:28Yeah?
12:29Yeah.
12:30You enjoying it?
12:31I am, man.
12:32Yeah.
12:33What's your name?
12:34Paul.
12:35Good to meet you, bud.
12:36Hi, Paul.
12:37Can we try something, though?
12:38Yes, I did.
12:39What would you recommend?
12:40Probably the bucket or the chicken wing.
12:41Oh, really?
12:42I'll have to check it out.
12:43Yeah, probably, I will.
12:44Thanks, Paul.
12:45Yeah, Colin.
12:47Ultimately, what is it that you are searching for?
12:49I suppose a life companion.
12:52You know, a twin flame.
12:56I like quite masculine men.
13:00I think someone similar to me.
13:01Someone that's into the outdoors, into health.
13:04I really like fitness and stuff, so this is something I could share with somebody.
13:09Someone that you can kind of travel with or go hiking with.
13:12Somebody who, like, wants to do things and experience things.
13:16Just someone that you get on really well with.
13:19Somebody who's comfortable in their own skin and they're confident and they're unapologetic.
13:24Has a good sense of humour and kind.
13:26A buddy and likes to laugh and doesn't take themselves or life too seriously.
13:33Mademoiselle, welcome.
13:34You look lovely today.
13:36Are you ready to do this?
13:37I suppose so.
13:38Here now, no going back.
13:42Yes, Maria's here now.
13:44But you never know where she's going to go next.
13:47I like genuine deep conversation.
13:51I'm one of these people where nothing is off limits.
13:54All right, so, Colin.
13:56How are you?
13:57How are you?
13:58Good to meet you.
13:59Good to meet you.
14:00What's your name?
14:01Maria.
14:02I'm Maria, how are you doing?
14:03Dressed still?
14:04Yeah, sure.
14:05How are you getting on?
14:06Good, yeah.
14:07Do you come from fair?
14:08Wexwich.
14:09Oh, wow.
14:10Wexwich is good as well.
14:11I used to go down there in the summer.
14:12I used to have the mobile down there in Corktown.
14:14It's like a mini Dublin.
14:15Very traditional, yeah.
14:16Yeah, it is.
14:17Got a lot of spot.
14:18Great strawberries as well.
14:19So why did you come to First States to find a match?
14:23I was just scrolling on the internet and ten minutes prior to that I had signed up for
14:28a charity skydive, so I was like, why not this?
14:31It's just another opportunity.
14:32If you don't put yourself out into the world and you don't take all the options that are
14:36available, you might miss something.
14:37Yeah.
14:38He's an Everest climber.
14:39Really?
14:40I've done ice camp, but I didn't do the top.
14:41Not yet.
14:42Still impressive.
14:43It is.
14:44How are you hiking?
14:45I do like hiking.
14:46I think it's more of the being out in nature thing.
14:48Second day, top of Everest, you know?
14:51I'm in the food business.
14:52I have a couple of small...
14:53I have a cafe and a pub.
14:54Go away!
14:55Yeah, yeah.
14:56I grew up behind a bar counter, so there's nothing I can't do.
14:58I have two small businesses.
14:59One is a cafe that I set up.
15:00Well, I didn't set it up.
15:01Mammy set it up with my brother and myself in 1992.
15:02We lost Mammy last May and we lost my brother in March, but I'm still going, flying the
15:05flag.
15:06I think people think I'm a bit of a dull boy, but actually in fact I'm not.
15:08You know, you've got to get into the arena.
15:09You've got to get the sweat going, the blood in your mouth.
15:11I've always wanted to, you know, get into the arena.
15:12You've got to get into the arena.
15:13You've got to get the sweat going, the blood in your mouth.
15:26I've always wanted to open a cafe wine bar.
15:29Have you?
15:30So yeah, afternoon teas is what I'm thinking of more so.
15:32Afternoon tea is mega.
15:33Yes.
15:34I like the afternoon teas.
15:35And I'm thinking of a wine bar at night time.
15:37Okay.
15:38I am looking for someone now.
15:40I think I'm in a great position in life.
15:42I feel it.
15:43It's just that feeling that I have.
15:44And I'm looking for someone that can be by my side.
15:47I love the French look.
15:48Yeah, I have a couple of those here.
15:50They're lovely.
15:51It's really, really nice.
15:52Obviously a very good companion, someone with a very good attitude.
15:55I just miss that company, that male company.
15:59I've known you in that business a long time.
16:01Oh my God.
16:02I'd say we're all the same.
16:04The first pint I pulled, I was about four.
16:06Yeah.
16:07So it's in the family?
16:08Yeah.
16:09Yeah.
16:10I teach English now.
16:11So I teach like Brazilians and like Turkish people and like people who come to Ireland to learn English.
16:17We have like a lot of Brazilians working in our bar.
16:19You speak Portuguese then?
16:20Oh God, no.
16:21Oh no?
16:22You don't pick up a thing or two.
16:23I speak Russian.
16:24Really?
16:25Yeah.
16:26Like good.
16:27Absolutely.
16:28My parents are Russian.
16:29Oh, that's your background?
16:30Yeah.
16:31Oh, okay.
16:32I feel like I'll be a completely different person if I stayed back in Latvia.
16:40All of the extended family is in Latvia and having to live with them would probably have
16:45me more restricted.
16:47While here I live by myself, I have a job, I go to college.
16:51I work in a student cocktail bar.
16:53I'll be there Friday, Saturday, Sunday and all that like.
16:55Yeah.
16:56I love it but I don't really have a weekend.
16:58I still like go out dancing and stuff like.
17:00I remember I was...
17:01When was last time I was out?
17:03Oh, last time I was out.
17:04The way you have to think about that is insane to me.
17:07What the fuck?
17:08We are opposites like that.
17:10Like I be out all the time.
17:11I don't know how to party, I don't know how to rave.
17:13Yeah, I told.
17:14You don't know how to...
17:15I learn.
17:16I love to dance and sing and just hang out with me.
17:20And just hang out with my friends.
17:22We're always the top groupers.
17:24Just showing off our moves and like letting go and having fun.
17:27What type of music are you into then?
17:29Just whatever is on mainstream at the time.
17:31Oh, you're a pop.
17:32Yeah.
17:33You're a pop person.
17:34Yeah, and musical theatre.
17:36Oh, you do musical theatre?
17:37I don't do it, I watch it.
17:38But you love it.
17:39I'm not a concert guy.
17:40I've never been to a concert and I don't really like concerts.
17:42Why?
17:43You've never been, how do you know?
17:44The idea of like fucking so many people standing around you,
17:47it's all literally just this in a concert.
17:50But that's their choice.
17:51You can do different.
17:52I prefer to go down in a chill environment in the theatre,
17:54sit down, have a drink, watch a musical.
17:58And I know that there will be no phones because there's no
18:00phones allowed in the theatre.
18:02We are so different.
18:15Healthy, wholesome, refreshing.
18:18And here's three more things you should know about Craig.
18:21Farmer born or farmer bred and farmers in my blood I suppose.
18:25I'm also a second school teacher and a carpenter.
18:30Triple threat.
18:32Are you ready man?
18:33You dress nicely.
18:34Ooh, nice.
18:35I thought we'd be blinging.
18:37Yeah.
18:38Da-da-da-da, like this man.
18:39Uh-huh.
18:40Alright my man, that's you.
18:41You're ready.
18:42Positivity is here, my man.
18:44Why are you still single?
18:46I just haven't found the right person yet.
18:48Just haven't got out of the yard yet.
18:50To go looking.
18:52Yes, you're going nice.
18:55Just like milking a cow.
18:57A cow.
18:58Cream on top.
18:59You ever done it before?
19:01My grandparents, they had a farm and we spent a lot of time out there
19:04kind of most days bringing them in for the milking and stuff like that.
19:07Jesus, smelly old job.
19:09Ah yeah, smelly enough.
19:11So you want a good country girl, do you?
19:13Ah sure, hopefully.
19:15Let's see what happens.
19:17Here comes Chloe, hoping to be swept right off her feet.
19:25If not now, then soon.
19:31Future boyfriend can try if we're doing well.
19:35It would be a plus, but like I could teach him.
19:37Perfect, second dish.
19:39There we go.
19:40Yeah, plan ahead already.
19:42Future husband better love me right.
19:49Hi.
19:50Well look at you.
19:52What's your name on?
19:53Chloe.
19:54Nice to meet you Chloe.
19:55Nice to meet you.
19:56I'm from Dublin.
19:57Noah Calvin.
19:58Oh, Calvin lady.
19:59Yeah, yeah.
20:00Ah, okay.
20:01I'm in a little village.
20:02Not much in it, but a pub and a shop and then that's about it really.
20:07Alright so.
20:08Hello, how are you?
20:09How are you?
20:10How are you?
20:11Not too bad on yourself.
20:12Not too bad.
20:13You're looking lovely.
20:14Thank you so are you.
20:15And I'm bloody like myself.
20:16There you go.
20:17Bit of an accident in it.
20:18Yeah, I'm from Calvin.
20:19Where are you from yourself?
20:20Where are you from?
20:21Where are you from?
20:22Oh, not so bad.
20:23Yeah.
20:24Only over the road.
20:25Only over the road.
20:26I've been single forever.
20:28I've had like a few here and there, but I wouldn't have them as like real relationships,
20:31so I guess now I'm ready to find one.
20:35You're so coordinated.
20:36I know, you'd almost say it's planned.
20:37It's like you came together.
20:39Must be fate.
20:40Must be fate.
20:45So, my mom is from Mayo.
20:47My granddad's from Roscommon.
20:49And my granddad's from Tipperary, so like I'm a culture of her.
20:52I'm a culture dub.
20:53Yeah.
20:54I come from a big family of seven siblings.
20:57Seven siblings.
20:58Yeah, big fam.
20:59There was no Wi-Fi back in them days.
21:02I came from a perfectly normal, dysfunctional family like, you know, yeah.
21:07I had a bit of a madhouse.
21:09It was a very loving home though.
21:11Dad was in the army.
21:12Mom was a nurse.
21:14My brother's the eldest.
21:15My sister Helen next to me.
21:17And my other sister Anne in Wicklow.
21:19And there's a 12 year gap.
21:20Wow.
21:21And there's me.
21:22Surprised her.
21:23What happened there?
21:24Did your mom and dad just decide to...
21:26My mother says she fell off a stepladder.
21:28That shook up her ovaries when I arrived.
21:30Nice.
21:31I lived on a farm.
21:33We always were out and about and outside and being with animals and working with animals.
21:38And I live right by the sea as well, so I love the sea.
21:41I just swim in the sea and stuff.
21:43I used to surf when I was younger, but I'm terrible at it.
21:45I really wanted to get a kayak.
21:46I'm always looking for something new to do.
21:48Just having an open wine look.
21:49Yeah.
21:50I think when I was younger, I maybe didn't kind of have that confidence.
21:56When I was a teenager, I ended up with depression.
22:01I did end up in hospital with it as well.
22:04I feel like I didn't make the most of that time.
22:08So now I'm very much like, if there's something you want to do, do it.
22:12Tattoo stuff and things are all very recent.
22:15It's only all the last couple of years.
22:16I did that for a long time.
22:17I was like, oh my God, what will people think?
22:20What was the change?
22:21What made you take the leap?
22:22I was in a relationship for a really long time.
22:25My early 20s up to my 30s.
22:28Like, it was 10 years.
22:29Right.
22:30So, then when I came out of that, I was like, what do you want?
22:33Just go do it now and stop.
22:34There's nobody else to hold you back.
22:36You can't make any diseases anymore.
22:37What did they say?
22:38The break-ups and the break-downs lead to break true.
22:40That's good, actually.
22:42Yeah.
22:43We spent too much of our younger years terrified what people think.
22:46We're afraid to be unique and weird and different.
22:48And then you get to an age where, like, we just don't care.
22:51You know what I mean?
22:52My dad's saying, you know, when he's in his 20s, all he's doing was
22:54worried about what people thought about him.
22:56And then when he got to 40, he didn't give a shit what people thought about him.
22:59But then he got to 60, he realised no one's ever been thinking about him.
23:02Because everyone's in their own head.
23:04Everyone's sitting here going, oh, we're dressed already, oh, we're shirts aren't.
23:07Because of human nature, you know?
23:08Yeah.
23:20I got back into my singing.
23:21So, literally, I always had the hairbrush out from that height.
23:24And with no fear of the stage ever, you honest with that.
23:26Brilliant.
23:27Love it.
23:28Tom Jones and an Elvis freak.
23:29Yeah, yeah, no bother.
23:30Yeah, and don't mind these ballads, no, the high stuff.
23:32Give me rock and roll.
23:33When you sing, it allows you to tap in.
23:35So, it's better than, like, two hours of fucking therapy and three hours of massage.
23:40Yeah, and go back to me tap dancing now on the 15th of August.
23:42I used to do it as a kid.
23:43Oh, I want to go back in.
23:44Can I tell you, I thought it was going to be deadly.
23:46My feet were struck to the floor.
23:47You're never sitting so bad in your life.
23:48It's actually shocking.
23:49Yeah, it was shocking.
23:50You have to be willing to let go.
23:52And you have to be willing to fuck it up.
23:55Genuinely, you do.
23:56Otherwise, it has to be fun.
23:57I'm looking at me left foot, telling it to move.
23:59Oh, my God.
24:00Oh, my God.
24:01Oh, my God.
24:02I'm doing hip-hop at the moment, yeah.
24:03I have to go back from the session of that on a Monday.
24:05And then I'm going to go back to my ballroom after that then as well.
24:09I love the jive.
24:10The jive is deadly because it's forgiving.
24:11If you have a bit of rhythm, you're flying.
24:12If you can feel the beat of the music, you're grand.
24:14Honest to God.
24:15Would you like a man who can dance?
24:18I love watching dancing.
24:21My friends have told me, you can do this, this, this and this, but you can't dance.
24:26I've actually been told that.
24:28I love watching it.
24:29I'll go and watch it.
24:30No.
24:31I can't dance.
24:32No.
24:33My friends told me I have no...
24:34I don't care about your friends.
24:35So you'll have to come.
24:36There's a class starting and it's for four or five weeks and it's fucking great.
24:39If you don't like it, you can just leave.
24:41It's fucking great.
24:42It's fucking great.
24:47I wake up at like 9, 10, kind of start getting myself up.
24:50Then I'll go to the gym at 11, stay there till like one o'clock, then come back, do a bit of housework.
24:56Then it depends what my schedule is for the day.
24:59Like, do I have to go to work later on?
25:00Do I not have to go to work?
25:01But college is like completely different because I'm in college nine to nine.
25:04So intense.
25:05No, it's so intense.
25:07Like my course was literally seven days a week, like 12 hours in the library.
25:12Oh my God, you feel so robotic.
25:15Do you know what I mean?
25:16You feel lifeless.
25:17Yes, but I love it.
25:18See, the thing is with my fashion degree, I don't sit in front of a book and I have to study.
25:22I just finished college, so I just need some time to relax before I go and chase those ambitions.
25:28I studied astrophysics.
25:30Oh.
25:31Yeah.
25:32So it was like very mentally draining having to study for 12 hours a day.
25:37It just, whatever, like I, it just depends what you find easy.
25:41Because I'm never like sitting and studying a book or writing notes.
25:44I'm always like either at sewing machine or I'm pattern drafting or I'm in my sketchbook designing stuff.
25:48Like, I love it.
25:51I did get told that many times by guys that I'm too mature for my age.
25:54Guys would literally be like, Jesus Christ, you're only 21 years old, but you're acting like a 30 year old.
25:59And I'm like, yeah, that's like a thing.
26:03I'm so grateful because I love my job right now.
26:05Like it's handy, that little in-between job before I have to go serious.
26:08You know what I mean?
26:09I don't know, like a big boy job.
26:11I can't wait for a big boy job.
26:12I just, I hate being like stuck.
26:16But you sound like you have a plan, you have the ambition, so.
26:19I'm sure it will find you.
26:20I try my best.
26:21Like, it will come to you only if you chase for it.
26:29I am the babby.
26:30Aww, the youngest. So cute.
26:33Are you the youngest middle?
26:34No, I'm not.
26:35I have a younger brother and then an older brother and older sister.
26:37What does your siblings do for jobs?
26:39Um, so my older brother works in a chicken factory.
26:42Oh, I worked in that chicken factory. I did not enjoy it.
26:45It's not a fun six months.
26:47Yeah, we left on Valentine's Day.
26:49In 2020.
26:5020? Yeah, 2020.
26:52Yeah, perfect day to leave.
26:53We start at 6, half 6 in the morning.
26:55It's early.
26:56It's a lovely time though.
26:57Is it?
26:58Me and the cows.
26:59They're pally enough.
27:00It's all chilled out.
27:01Ah, yeah?
27:02Farming is, you can't just hang up your shoes at 6 o'clock and go home.
27:07So, I suppose it's a good relationship.
27:09You have to have, like, someone to just have the crack with me while we're doing the work.
27:13Have you any idea what farming is about?
27:15I live in a farm, so, yep.
27:17You do?
27:18I do.
27:19Ha ha!
27:20Are you roped in?
27:22I take the numbers of the cows when he's tagging them.
27:25Yeah?
27:26Making is a great crack.
27:28People think, like, a cow shits on you every minute or, like, cows only poo when they're
27:35nervous.
27:36So, if the atmosphere is good, so the cows are telling you you should be going for the
27:40girl or not.
27:41I might be able to get you into the parlours though.
27:43Maybe.
27:44Maybe.
27:45Yeah.
27:46We're a little persuading.
27:47I wouldn't need any.
27:48Cows are so lovely.
27:49Oh, yeah.
27:50Lovely job.
27:51I used to kind of be mad into partying and session, but I kind of just had an
27:57allergy to it, like, you know what I mean?
27:59Like, you know the way, if you were allergic to, like, tomatoes, you know, you get a rash
28:04or you drink milk and you get a bit bloated?
28:06Well, when I drank, I used to just wake up naked in my neighbour's flower bed.
28:10Ha ha ha!
28:11Ha ha ha!
28:12Yeah, I can relate to that.
28:15No, I just couldn't have a moderate.
28:17I always have been shrinkable.
28:18And I think I was using, like, more as a kind of escape.
28:23Before I ever picked up a drink, I had this feeling of inadequacy and fear and not feeling
28:28good enough.
28:29And, you know, then when I drank, all that stuff evaporated.
28:31I felt like I just felt like to feel normal and okay.
28:35Yeah, I just abused it so much that it kind of brought me to a really negative, dark place
28:40in my life.
28:41Yeah, I was ready.
28:42My dad was sober too.
28:43He was a recovering alcoholic and he kind of pointed me in the right direction.
28:46But, like, I struggled at the start to not drink because I was just so young.
28:49But it's hard.
28:50You see, I got friends outside partying, I mean, like, I'm going to miss out on my whole
28:53life.
28:54Did you lose friends?
28:55You lose drinking associates.
28:56You realise who your real friends are.
28:58It's really popular around lads in the pub, but, you know, they barely know anything
29:04about you.
29:05When I got sober and I got into, like, the outdoors and the hiking and the sea-dip communities,
29:10I started to actually experience people that, like, knew me.
29:13The opposite of addiction isn't abstinence or sobriety.
29:17The opposite of addiction is connection.
29:19You're going to get days that are hard and days that are easy and let's just keep going.
29:24And that's one of the reasons I've done the Everest Base Camp.
29:27Because my dad used to say to me, like, some days when he gets sober, you know, it's
29:30going to be walking the park and other days it's going to be climbing up Mount Everest.
29:33So he passed by a few years ago.
29:36To kind of mark that, but to kind of mark that, I wanted to do it when I got my ten years
29:41medallion.
29:42That's amazing.
29:43I got a ten year medallion and I wanted to go up to Everest to mark it.
29:46That's absolutely amazing.
29:47And it was incredible, like, you know.
29:49But just be able to do something like that, like, yeah.
29:51I know he helped me a lot over the years.
29:52Like, you know.
29:53Very wise, man.
29:54Very wise, man.
29:55Very wise, man.
29:56Hi.
29:57How's it going?
29:58Yes.
29:59Thank you very much.
30:00Did you fancy her?
30:01Oh, yeah.
30:02She's lovely.
30:03She's lovely.
30:04Why wouldn't you?
30:05That's the ten minute call.
30:20You don't feel time, you don't think?
30:22Ah, listen, I'm grateful.
30:24hopefully she feels the same
30:27I think she does but hopefully she does
30:29we are going
30:31Dutch on this
30:32I don't mind now, I'm very old school
30:35but I have to say no, I met me

32:02but like I just feel like he's not interested in me
32:06like conversation wise
32:07he's literally asking me no questions
32:10every time that I talk about myself
32:12I feel like I'm interrupting him
32:13he's lovely to talk to like
32:14yeah we always have the conversation rolling
32:16but it's just
32:17it's not romantic
32:18okay
32:19yeah
32:20well you never know
32:20maybe that will come later
32:21you never know
32:22I feel bad because I feel like maybe he's a bit nervous
32:25and doesn't even realize that what he's doing
32:28I'm still having a good time
32:29yeah
32:29and some of them
32:30so yeah
32:30and look you never know
32:31we'll see what fate brings
32:32exactly what's meant for you
32:34won't pass you by
32:35as they say
32:35fingers crossed for you
32:36anyway
32:36thank you
32:37I'm a sales operations analyst
32:44oh well
32:45I just like enjoy the problem solving
32:47and things and things
32:48aspect of it
32:49yeah
32:49I love go posing getting to the end thing
32:51that's how you think I love jujitsu
32:53it's like chess with limbs
32:54like you know what I mean
32:55what's your idea of a really good relationship then
32:59I suppose it's honesty
33:01communication is so important
33:04you need to enjoy your life together
33:08you enjoy the little things and the big things
33:10so what do you work at this
33:12corporate wellness
33:13yeah
33:14people in an office environment
33:16and you're kind of getting them up moving
33:18getting them looking after themselves
33:19getting them looking at their sleep
33:21and yeah
33:22because I've been on both ends of that
33:23like I've walked in an office nine to five
33:25and walk in like 60-70 hours
33:27and then I remember just burning out at the end of that
33:29and took a sabbatical
33:30and went on mad
33:30like went to Asia to find myself
33:33and then I just
33:34yeah I came home then
33:35got into corporate wellness
33:37and yeah
33:38I never looked back
33:38and love is about what you put into a relationship
33:41without looking for what you can get out of it
33:43I think Mark Twain has that quote
33:44you know the best way to cheer yourself up
33:46is to cheer someone else up
33:47I'm only here for a blip like you know
33:49and you're just like
33:50you want to be looking back on
33:52I wish I'd done that more
33:53I wish I'd done this more
33:54I don't think you really look back and go
33:55I'm so glad it was hours of work
33:57yeah yeah
33:58yeah it's like
33:59would you rather drive your Ferrari to the office
34:01than drive your punta up the hills
34:03I don't eat in fancy restaurants very often
34:10because on dates
34:11the most places I get bought to is McDonald's
34:13so you know
34:14you're not being treated well
34:15what is your ideal guy
34:18I don't know
34:19because I feel like it's not looks
34:21and it's not anything like that
34:22I feel like it's more like
34:23how you like get on with the person
34:25and like how it goes
34:26personality beats editing
34:27yeah 100%
34:28mostly I'd go for like
34:29their chattiness
34:30their communication
34:32the adventures
34:33have a bit of crack
34:34I feel like I'm pretty chill
34:35seem lovely
34:36thank you
34:37so do you
34:37thank you
34:38thanks very much
34:39have you been on many dates
34:41I went for a few walks
34:43but like
34:44nothing goes anywhere
34:45okay
34:46so you're bringing me on like
34:47a second date
34:48where are you bringing me
34:49I'm going to put it to your paces now
34:50a whole date and our date
34:51a whole date
34:52right
34:53we'll start off on a hike
34:54yeah cool
34:55start on a hike
34:56yeah cool
34:57maybe a coffee on the way
34:58we can go for breakfast
34:59while we get the coffee
35:00right
35:00okay
35:01that's lovely
35:01a little hike
35:02maybe there'll be a bit of a waterfall
35:03we like waterfalls
35:05and a bit of a river
35:06nice
35:07finish off with a bit of food
35:08watch the sunset
35:09could do
35:10a whole tale of an adventure
35:11and does a walk ever lead to anything else
35:14wow
35:15no
35:16it is
35:17some question
35:19no
35:21nah no
35:21ah kiss
35:23wow
35:26really are coming out with the questions though
35:28can you
35:31can you jive
35:31can you jive
35:31I went for lessons
35:33oh
35:34okay
35:34I have the concept of doing it
35:36yeah
35:37but at the moment
35:38I probably would make a mockery of the two of us
35:41no
35:41no no
35:42cause I'll lead you the way
35:44I just need guidance
35:45yeah
35:46no
35:46I'll try to have
35:47I've been single for 21 years
35:53I've never been in a relationship
35:54you've never been in a relationship
35:55no
35:56I don't know
35:57just not much luck I suppose
35:59I wish I could at least experience something
36:02like have you seen Heartstopper
36:03no
36:03oh
36:04it's like a very romantic gay TV show
36:06about these two guys in school
36:08I never got to experience that when I was in school
36:12or something like that you know
36:12I had a really good time in school
36:15made some good friends
36:17I feel like there was homophobia
36:19but it wasn't a defining feature of my school experience
36:22I won dabs queen at my dabs
36:25which was really wholesome
36:26did you have any gay friends in school
36:28no
36:29do you have gay friends
36:30what
36:31that's crazy
36:33cause you never have anyone to talk about these things
36:35who relate
36:36actually funny enough
36:39like you'll probably be in shock right now
36:40but I'm not out
36:42what
36:44sorry I need a minute
36:48what
36:49you're not out
36:51no like I'm out to like
36:53except my family
36:54babes
36:57babes
36:58Russian culture can be very restricting
37:02there's no way in hell
37:06I could have been an opened free gay guy
37:09in Latvia
37:10oh my god
37:12it's fine
37:13it's not fine though
37:16it's not I know
37:19there's a lot
37:30in me
37:31like there's sadness
37:34there's excitement
37:35there's
37:36a lot of emotions
37:37like
37:38I felt
37:40it felt nice
37:41to talk about it
37:43and him understanding me
37:45it's like
37:46obviously everyone says to you
37:47there is never a right moment
37:49but I'm like
37:49I can't find the moment
37:50to do it
37:51I'm really sorry
37:52no because it just makes the whole gay experience
37:55so much more difficult
37:56I don't know why
38:00I just served the conversation
38:02completely in that direction
38:03we just
38:03stayed on that topic
38:04for a very long time
38:05I guess it was maybe
38:08just a build up in me
38:09that just like
38:10breathe
38:11breathe Alex
38:12like you need to let it out
38:13kind of a thing
38:14it's shit
38:17and it's tough
38:18we're getting deep
38:19but you
38:20are fucking
38:21killing it
38:21because you're still here
38:22you're like
38:23I'm trauma dumping
38:24I don't like trauma dumping
38:26you're expressing your feelings
38:28and there's nothing wrong with that
38:29because like
38:31how can you feel accepted
38:32for who you are
38:33it's hard to feel connected
38:35to someone when they don't know you
38:36you're gay
38:37you know
38:39I'm gay
38:40you are gay
38:41and you know what
38:43it's fucking fabulous
38:44and own it
38:45like what
38:46cheers
38:47to being gay
38:49and it struggles
38:49and everything else
38:51that comes with it
38:51but you know
38:52we kill
38:52slay the day
38:53as I always would say

39:26it was something I could connect with
39:28just being able to talk about the real stuff
39:30we're definitely setting the bone
39:32no we get that
39:33no don't be ridiculous
39:34then what if you got the drinks
39:37and not get the food
39:37are you sure we would?
39:39yeah yeah yeah
39:39definitely think there was a lot of things in common

39:46don't need them chips
39:47wrap those up for me please
39:49put them in your pocket
39:50put them in the bag there
39:51obviously it's a short time
39:53to get to know someone
39:54but my initial impression
39:55is I'd say
39:56like he's a really great guy
39:57see you man
39:58see you later

40:54and just people that are on
40:55kind of different journeys
40:56look
40:58I think when you meet someone
41:00and it's meant to be
41:01and you know you know

43:08it happens
43:09I'm not gonna lie
43:11I found
43:12the start of it

43:17and he wasn't
43:17like he wasn't asking
43:19much about me
43:19but towards the end
43:21I realised he was
43:22very nervous
43:23and that he had a lot
43:25on his mind
43:26that he wanted to say
43:27it didn't go as expected
