06:24make a new connection um find true love's bliss maybe and what's your usual type a human i suppose

06:33i don't like gym bods or any of those things i like kind of bearish men uh you know a bit

06:38a bit cuddlier with uh with beards and and stuff like that so uh i always say a young version of

06:55oh i get annoyed hearing finnis at the airport every time i get there's like all these fins again

07:00it's a kind of bittersweet mix that there's certain things that i miss back home and there's

07:03certain things that i'm very happy to not have to deal with i've fallen in love with ireland and

07:11and go always a great place to live and i've stuck here for seven years

07:20petri loves the irish because he's come to understand us well most of us the accents occasionally

07:27like going down to carry and i'm like what are you talking to me i have no idea what you just said

07:34i don't go to places where i would be chatted up because it's always such a tiny place we only have

17:19what do you think makes a great relationship trust you need to be able to trust each other i hate the

17:24way especially in today's kind of age where people like the girls are great when the fellas stress

17:29the home thinking oh she's cheating and all that and then saying vice versa just trust each other like

17:40been that much i've been like like i've been less than 10 times because i've been that's almost

17:45busy with work like i've been like five times more than that i mean i i i do like it when i go like

17:55conference on a monday is so rogue really going it's it even open on the one i hope so

18:02do you speak any other languages um i'm don't say vulcan i'm fluent in bullshit uh no little bits of

18:09things um i did german in school but i would say i'm very rusty at it now but it would be probably

18:14something like if you were exposed to it oh yeah yeah if i was in germany drunk i needed to order

18:22alcohol at a bar i could do it totally one of the big problems i've noticed in myself as well

18:29as to kind of to understand the difference between interest and romantic interest i've had a few times

18:35where i've realized ages later it's like oh were you flirting with me i didn't realize that this was

18:41probably not the first day discussion but second day discussion like i've had my best men chosen

18:45for my wedding eventually all right okay i've changed one of them well look at my finger it's empty

18:52i start building these dreams and and ideas and and then they they are not part of that process

18:59because it happens inside my head and then i bring them along at some point and i'm like well we have this

19:03i have this whole life plan for us like hold on well i've been married zero times me as well yeah

19:11i barely had a i think my longest relationship was a year and a half hmm okay yours uh eight and a half

19:19nearly nine oh wow yeah i'm usually a bit too quick to tell say the l word in the relationship as well

19:26that i'm i i get to feel like i want to say that but should i is it too soon is it too soon and i'm

19:31usually the first one very good so you've planned a wedding and your groomsmen and all those things

19:38yeah the only thing missing is the husband oh yeah well the first husband i suppose

19:47i've been a chef for 35 years so anything around food i've always been passionate about and i've been at

19:53the high end of kitchens you know michelin stars and stuff so i i know what it's like at the top

19:58my girls were going into college how old are they i have two girls yeah sarah and anna sarah is 24 this

20:05year anna is 21 this year yeah we're a very close-knit trio yeah yeah yeah good they've often said it to

20:14me you know not that we'd love to see you with somebody that but you know they they want me to be happy

20:19my wife passed away in 2015. all right so she died yeah she died quite young 47. right that's the age i am

20:34it was cancer so it all happened very quickly so that that happened around the uh christmas time as

20:39well which doesn't help but uh it was just uh it was just one of those things it was really really

20:46difficult for the girls the girls were quite young then yes i can imagine yeah focus on them step up

20:53and do it yeah get the girls rared and yeah good and safe and you know i had to change the whole

21:00projection of my career as well because i was working up in dublin at the time and so i had to stop

21:06and just focus on my girls i ended up working in a secondary school in the canteen type of place yeah

21:13yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah got me out of all i was doing cooking classes so i was finding ways to make

21:19money yeah yeah yeah yeah and uh support them at the same time and be more at home probably to walk

21:25after yeah yeah yeah i can look back in the rear view mirror but i'm going forward now and i'm quite

21:30positive and enjoying life you know it's it it's been challenging but good yeah

21:36what are you doing um i'm in ucd in genetics i'm going into third year so yeah i'm yeah i want to

21:47go into like forensics or something about like hereditary like diseases or something like that

21:54to do with genetics you get to pick your dissertation so i suppose to me i was going to do like the genes

21:59of why some people get really badly sunburnt and why other people don't because like ginger and i do get

22:05different my course is like massive so like you don't only get to know people until like second

22:11year and like kind of know ever so my friends groups are like my friends do history and politics

22:18like physics chemistry engineering loads of like smart my friends are smart basically would you like

22:24a smart guy yeah i would like somebody smart someone who kind of has the same values as me

22:31kind of has some sort of plan that has some aspirations of where they're going because

22:36i have plans and aspirations are you not from from dublin nope that's where i'm from i don't know it's

22:42such a neutral accent yeah it's very nice like you have such a neutral accent i have no clue where you're

22:46from so no matter what i say is going to offend you so no no no no can't do it um killer yeah

23:34that like uh everyone moves through life at their own pace so like uh you know if i'm single i'm single

23:42if i find someone i find someone you know they love me either way so

23:52i love giving love yeah i love being loved and giving love it's uh

23:58being able to make someone else have that same feeling it's so gratifying

26:26so that was a long time a big chunk i think a single longer we split up in 2015

26:32okay and uh eight years yeah yeah yeah yeah you know we're still friends we're like family you

26:39know i know his new wife i knew her really well anyway okay and oh he went down and got married

26:44then yeah yeah yeah and uh you know i've had different people over the years but no one that's gone

26:51you know yeah well that's the person for me yeah after that i was in a relationship that was about a

26:58year and a half but your man lived in france so it was either i moved to paris

27:07to be with him or and i was like no i just do like ireland a bit too much man ireland

27:14you know it's hard to know what makes all the ingredients stick together what's the right person

27:20like it is hard work yeah in a way but yeah you know when you feel it in your gut you've met someone

27:25and you're not the right person it's better yeah to move on so yeah i promised to myself i wouldn't

27:32take as long in the future if something doesn't feel right okay you give it a chance because you

27:37work at it no relationship's perfect but then if it doesn't feel right you need to end the cycle

27:43quicker and i think the order we get as well the more wise we get you know well you hope so

27:48we can do this the more baggage we bring in that's true as well how was your family when you came out

27:58um yeah okay really yeah and they were like oh my mother was like oh that must have been a weight off

28:06your mind and then my dad was like oh okay well we're still your family very good okay that was a good

28:14reaction yeah where do you think you learned about love you look at all the things when you're young

28:20and you look at disney and stuff and it's like oh this is what happens and you'll meet uh prince or

28:26princess charming and live happily ever after and then you just realized that was a lie you spent

28:3240 years kissing toads and no transformation ever happens how are yours not not the same not the same no

28:41okay not the same so my sister was kind of like the same she realized it and she was like oh i just

28:46need to be more open-minded in the future okay i'm earlier in my like early 20s i wasn't out fully so

28:52there were lots of people who knew me when i was still in the closet and then there were people who

28:56knew me while i was coming out and then there were people who only known me since i had come out so

29:01there was all these different perceptions of me and then i had to kind of manage all of that

29:06constantly and tried to like okay how how should i behave based on who's who's around me and she's

29:13been fine and she knew me like we were best friends my mom on the other hand is she dramatic a little

29:19bit yeah he she didn't take it well initially and then we had a big fallout and i was like to the

29:26point where i was not even sure if i was welcome home for christmas oh really not for christmas yeah

29:32well let's see in the end then she was like well you're always welcome that's all it's gonna be

29:35your home yeah it took months of really tense relationship before we kind of managed to get

29:41back to a certain level of trust and like my brother is also gay uh he came out like five years after

29:48me but he said you won yeah you beat him and then he's never forgiven me but i came out of the class

29:53at first and he came years later and he got a lot better response from my mom because she had had

29:58like five years time to four three four five years time to kind of digest having a gay son so

30:05then when she learned that she has two she was upset but she got over it a lot quicker so the three

30:11of you yeah i had another brother when i was younger but he passed away when i was 13. oh i'm sorry

30:19it's been long enough that i've been able to deal with it so it's fun but he was my partner in crime

30:24at the time so we did everything together we shared a room and we played together all the time so he was

30:29he was my whole life at the time pretty much it hit me and he was my best friend oh i'm sorry

30:34all right it's all in the past maybe he's watching you from somewhere

34:54just kind of got boring but i think there's a thing of like just like a mutual

35:01effort of like if we don't do this it's just not going to stagnate and so you got to do you got to

35:08put in that effort to to keep your life of it otherwise it's just one person is trying too hard

35:14yeah they're getting frustrated because the other person isn't trying really at all yeah and you and

35:19then like that makes you feel kind of unwanted and yes no one wants to feel like that no yeah

35:28i uh i'm a yoga teacher i teach pilares and meditation and breath work oh brilliant and i do

35:35that full time i used to be in the corporate world that's why you're not nervous you see you know you

35:38can zone all that again send myself yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah no i used to work in the corporate world

35:44and uh for many years and then i got to the point where the job split on and i just wanted an alternative

35:53yeah i was in a big job in a big multinational company which was great while i wanted it

36:01and then you reach middle age midlife crisis and you start to question everything i also had a

36:08consultancy mostly in the food industry as well but i left it recently yeah i was more into sales and

36:14marketing and uh i worked for food producers for a good few years and i was helping them export and then

36:22of course because i'm french then france being the obvious i enjoyed that for a bit but then i hit

36:28another wall and i knew then it was time to do my own thing so i launched a little business as a yoga

36:36teacher then i trained in pilares in mindfulness in breath work the trouble i have with food is that

36:43i have to slow myself down yeah for sure because yeah my whole career i've been standing up eating you

36:50know oh is the staff lunch ready yet have to get back yeah no i used to be like that and i had to

36:56practice mindful eating yeah well i know if you fancy them if i'm smiling like a gobshite

37:04i'm probably well into him as we get older and stuff you know you need to be more mindful about
