00:00Today, Rupert helps the inventor and loses raggedy in Rupert and the Newfangled Heater.
00:30There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done, and he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:43Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name. Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
01:00Rupert is playing in the garden, when, hello Rupert, calls the inventor, as he comes up the path, wheeling a wheelbarrow with an enormous box on it.
01:16Hello, cries Rupert eagerly, what's that? It's my latest invention, says the inventor proudly, and I want Mrs. Bear to try it out for me.
01:27Mr. and Mrs. Bear have come out for a closer look.
01:31Good morning, says Mrs. Bear, eyeing the box apprehensively.
01:36Good morning, says the inventor eagerly. I've just invented a new sort of sun warming machine, and he demonstrates how it works.
01:45You see, these mirrors catch the sun's rays and store them in this box. Then you press this button here, and the warmth comes out and warms the home.
01:57What a smashing idea, cries Rupert. Can we try it? I'll help you install it, says Mr. Bear eagerly.
02:06But Mrs. Bear shakes her head doubtfully. Has anyone else tried it?
02:12No, you're the first, says the inventor, expecting Mrs. Bear to be pleased. No, thank you. That thing's not coming into my house until someone else has tried it out first.
02:27Oh, I know, cries Rupert cheerfully. Mr. Grimnasty's house is always cold and damp.
02:41Mr. Grimnasty is in bed when they arrive, with his nightcap over his ears.
02:46Oh, it's so cold, he shivers. I have to stay in bed to keep warm.
02:55You're just the person I need then, says the inventor happily. Come and look at my sun warming machine.
03:03Mr. Grimnasty reluctantly gets out of bed. But when he sees the machine, he's most intrigued, and more than willing to try it out.
03:13Rupert and the inventor help him install it. It's hard work, but at last everything is ready.
03:21I shall go back to bed now, says Mr. Grimnasty. And when I wake up, my room will be all lovely and warm.
03:30He climbs into bed, pulling the bedclothes up over his head.
03:34Later that day, there's a thunderous knocking at the cottage door.
03:39Rupert opens it, and finds Mr. Grimnasty, still in his nightshirt and his nightcap at the door.
03:47The poor man is in a terrible state.
03:50Come quickly, Mr. Bear, he cries. Rackety is melted.
03:53Goodness gracious me, exclaims Mr. Bear. Quick, Rupert, go and fetch the inventor while I go back with Mr. Grimnasty.
04:03Have you come to help me, he asks Rupert.
04:06No, no, please come with me. Your sun warming machine has melted raggedy.
04:12Nonsense, says the inventor. Absolute nonsense.
04:17But he agrees to accompany Rupert.
04:20Mr. Grimnasty and Mr. Bear are already at Mr. Grimnasty's house, and the bedroom is beautifully warm.
04:28What makes you think raggedy has melted, asks the inventor, puzzled.
04:33Look, look, cries Mr. Grimnasty, pointing to a puddle of water beside the sun warming machine.
04:39He was standing right there when I fell asleep.
04:43Mr. Bear looks round.
04:46Perhaps it came from that vase that's been knocked over, he suggests, pointing to the upturned vase.
04:52Well, where's Raggedy then? demands Mr. Grimnasty.
04:57What's that? gasps Rupert.
05:00It's coming from the machine, cries Mr. Bear. Quick, get it out!
05:04He and the inventor stagger outside with the enormous box, which is knocking more than ever.
05:11What's happening? cries Bill, running up with Edward.
05:17Stand well back, commands Mr. Bear. I think the machine is going to explode.
05:22The knocking gets louder and louder, and the box starts to shake.
05:29And just as they all think it's going to blow up.
05:33Help! Help! Help!
05:36croaks a little voice.
05:38Get me out! Please get me out!
05:40Why, waggedy! cries Rupert.
05:42The inventor and Mr. Bear both roar with laughter.
05:47Oh dear, I haven't laughed so much for ages.
05:52The inventor is quickly brought back to reality when he peers into his box.
05:57Oh, Raggedy has eaten all the wooden parts of the controls inside, he wails.
06:02It's ruined.
06:05It's a horrible box, croaks Raggedy hoarsely.
06:09A horrible, horrible box.
06:11And the wood tastes horrible too.
06:13There's no salt or pepper.
06:15Please take it away, says Mr. Grimnasty.
06:18I don't want to see it ever again.
06:21I shall stay in bed when I'm cold in future.
06:24And he stumps off back to bed.
06:27The poor inventor is very upset.
06:29Oh, my beautiful invention ruined.
06:33Absolutely ruined, he moans.
06:37I'll help you take it back to our house, Mr. Bear suggests.
06:42And then we'll remake the wooden parts of the controls.
06:45Come on, let's go and help the inventor and Daddy.
06:51Rupert and his friends eagerly help with saw, hammer, nails and screw.
06:56But then Bill bangs his thumb with a hammer.
07:00Oh, instead of a nail I hit me.
07:04Now just hold it nice and steady while I check that's all as it should be.
07:10Yes, everything's done.
07:12The machine is ready.
07:14And the inventor's as pleased as pleased can be.
07:17Well, says Mrs. Bear, there's no point in wasting all that hard work.
07:24We'll try your machine.
07:26The inventor is delighted.
07:29Oh, thank you, Mrs. Bear, thank you, he says gratefully.
07:32Now, Rupert, go and ask Mr. Grimnasty to tea.
07:37He's had a bad shock, continues Mrs. Bear.
07:41Can Raggedy come too?
07:43There's plenty of wood.
07:44He can eat all the shavings.
07:46Yes, says Mrs. Bear kindly.
07:49Poor little thing.
07:51He must have been frightened shut in that box.
07:54So Rupert, Bill and Edward fly back to Mr. Grimnasty's house.
07:58They find Raggedy sitting outside.
08:02Mr. Grimnasty's cross with me, says the little creature glumly.
08:07Never mind, says Rupert comfortingly.
08:10Mummy has asked him to tea.
08:12That'll make him feel better.
08:14You can come too.
08:16There's plenty of tasty wood shavings.
08:18I've gone off wood for the moment.
08:21Well, perhaps we could spare a tulip bulb, Rupert suggests kindly.
08:28Raggedy cheers up.
08:32Mr. Grimnasty is fast asleep.
08:35Mr. Grimnasty!
08:37Shouts Rupert.
08:47Mr. Grimnasty!
08:49Mr. Grimnasty!

09:13beautifully, and the whole house is delightfully warm. Can Raggedy have a tulip bulb? He's
09:21gone off wood. All right, says Mrs. Bear, handing him one. Thank you, Mrs. Bear, says Raggedy
09:29happily. Rupert opens the door. Hello, Mr. Grimnasty, he says politely, trying hard not
09:38to giggle, for although Mr. Grimnasty is fully dressed, he's forgotten to remove his nightcap.
09:45That sun-warming machine is the most sensible thing you've ever invented, Mrs. Bear says as
09:51she hands the inventor a cup of tea. Perhaps you could make a special one for me, suggests Mr.
09:57Grimnasty. Without wood, he adds, hastily eyeing Raggedy. Hmm, perhaps plastic, says the inventor
10:07thoughtfully. Raggedy pricks up his ears. Plastic? He asks. Plastic? What does that taste like?
