00:00Today, Rupert helps Poggy find a home for a kitten in Rupert and Red Riding Hood.
00:30There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done, and he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:43Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name. Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:57Rupert, Rupert, shouts Poggy, hurrying through the garden gate. I need your help. Our cat has had kittens, he explains.
01:18And I've found homes for all but one. Do you think your mummy would like a kitten?
01:23Oh no, I don't think so, Poggy. We've got a cat already.
01:27Oh, Poggy sighs. Everyone seems to have one.
01:33Have you asked Mr Grimnasty? He might like a kitten, suggests Rupert.
01:37Well, says Poggy doubtfully. Would you come with me? You know how cross he always is, he adds nervously.
01:45All right, says Rupert. Do you think Mr Grimnasty would like a kitten, Mummy? He asks as Mrs Bear comes out into the garden.
01:53Hmm. Well, there's no harm in asking anyway.
01:57Oh, hello, says Rupert, as Little Red Riding Hood passes the gate. Can we give you a lift?
02:05Oh, yes, please, Rupert. I'm going to see my granny. And it's such a long way away, says the little girl gratefully, as she climbs into the chariot.
02:15Hello, Raggedy. Is Mr Grimnasty in? Yes, he's in bed.
02:27Oh, well then, says Poggy, perhaps it wasn't a very good idea.
02:31Oh, come on, says Rupert. We're here now. It's time he was up anyway, says Red Riding Hood.
02:39As they push Mr Grimnasty's door open, a white shape rises up from the bed.
02:48A monster, shouts Poggy. It's a monster.
02:52Where, where, asks Mr Grimnasty, pulling the sheet from his head.
02:56Oh, Poggy sighs with relief. It was you.
03:01Me? I'm not a monster, cries Mr Grimnasty indignantly.
03:06Please, please, would you like a kitten, Rupert asks hastily.
03:11Mr Grimnasty's surprised. A kitten? What do I need a kitten for? I've got Raggedy.
03:18But Raggedy can't catch mice, says Poggy.
03:22And they are very sweet, adds Little Red Riding Hood.
03:26No kittens, says Mr Grimnasty firmly. I've got quite enough to do as it is.
03:32And he pulls the sheet back over his head and lies down again.
03:36Oh, well, at least we tried, sighs Rupert. Come on, let's go and see Red Riding Hood's granny.
03:43Well, maybe she would like a kitten, Poggy suggests. I really must find a home for it.
03:50Now why didn't I think of that, says Red Riding Hood delightedly.
03:55She'd love one. She hasn't got a cat.
03:58Where are you going? asks Raggedy.
04:01Why, to see my granny, Red Riding Hood explains. Can I come too?
04:06Rupert lands in front of Little Red Riding Hood's granny's house.
04:13Come on in, says Red Riding Hood, leading the way. The door is open.
04:18They all troop in after her and stop dead, staring around them in amazement.
04:26What a lovely mess, says Raggedy. For chairs are overturned and the tablecloth is on the floor,
04:35covered with broken cups and plates.
04:38Whizzity whizz, gasps Rupert. What's happened?
04:43And where is Granny? cries Little Red Riding Hood anxiously.
04:47P-perhaps she's hiding. And poor Poggy starts to tremble.
04:52It must have been s-s-something awful.
04:56We must find her, says Rupert urgently. I'll go and look in the garden.
05:01I'll go and look in the bedroom, cries Red Riding Hood.
05:04I'll look under the table, says Poggy, disappearing beneath it.
05:09I'll look too, says Raggedy, who spotted some beautiful wood by the stove in the kitchen.
05:15She's not here, sighs the little girl running back.
05:19And she's not in the garden either, says Rupert.
05:22Where's Poggy?
05:24I-I'm here, says Poggy, emerging from beneath the table.
05:29And Raggedy?
05:31Oh!
05:32And Poggy dives back under the table again.
05:36It's coming from the kitchen, whispers Rupert, creeping towards the door.
05:40He throws it open.
05:42And there's Raggedy, sitting by the stove with a large piece of wood.
05:47Come on, she must be in the woods somewhere.
05:50I'll help, look, I'll help, cries Raggedy eagerly.
05:54Rupert's becoming anxious, and he runs from tree to tree, calling.
05:59Granny!
06:00Granny!
06:01Here she is!
06:02Here she is!
06:03Cries Raggedy triumphantly.
06:05Oh, why, Granny, what's the matter?
06:08Asks Red Riding Hood.
06:10What happened?
06:11But the poor old lady is in such a state of shock, she can't say a word.
06:16They help her into the chariot, and Rupert wastes no time in taking her back to his own cottage.
06:23Tea, says Mrs Bear briskly, putting a shawl round the poor old lady's shoulders.
06:33With plenty of sugar, and a nice warm fire, that's what you need for shock.
06:38I'm going to see Little Red Riding Hood's father.
06:41The wolf must be back again.
06:43And he hurries off.
06:45Oh dear, I want to go home, wails poor Poggy.
06:49But I daren't.
06:51Now, now, now.
06:53Mrs Bear does her best to soothe his fears.
06:56You'll be quite safe here.
06:58But supposing it comes to my house, what about my mummy?
07:04He might blow my house down.
07:06Here, have a nice hot cup of tea.
07:09I've put plenty of sugar in it, says Mrs Bear, and there's a bun too.
07:13But poor Poggy isn't hungry at all.
07:16As Mr Bear hurries away, he meets PC Growler.
07:20Good morning, Mr Bear.
07:22Lovely day, isn't it?
07:23Oh, why?
07:24What's the matter?
07:26He asks.
07:27For Mr Bear is looking very worried indeed.
07:29I'm off to find Little Red Riding Hood's father, explains Mr Bear.
07:34We think the wolf has returned to the woods.
07:37I'll come too, says the constable.
07:40Ah, look, Red Riding Hood, your granny feels better now, says Mrs Bear.
07:45For at last the poor old lady has stopped shivering.
07:48Oh, what was it, granny, that frightened you?
07:51Was it the wolf?
07:53Red Riding Hood asks.
07:54But her granny shakes her head.
07:57No, no, no, it was a m-m-m-m-oh, a monster.
08:01Poor Poggy is more frightened than ever.
08:04Oh, dear me, Poggy, what an imagination you have, exclaims Mrs Bear.
08:09No, it wasn't a m-m-m-monster, says Red Riding Hood's granny.
08:13It was a m-m-m-mouse.
08:16A mouse?
08:18This is too much for Rupert, who bursts into roars of laughter.
08:31Oh, but mice are sweet, says Red Riding Hood, joining in.
08:36Poggy suddenly feels a lot better.
08:39I think I can manage that bun now, he tells Mrs Bear.
08:43Rupert, go and tell your daddy and little Red Riding Hood's father, says Mrs Bear.
08:47They'll be relieved, chuckles Rupert. Bye.
08:52Rupert flies over the common to the woods and sees Mr Bear, PC Growler and Red Riding Hood's father below.
08:59Come out, you varmint. I'll teach you to frighten an old lady, shouts Red Riding Hood's father, busily hitting each bush with his axe.
09:07Daddy, Daddy, shouts Rupert as he lands beside them.
09:11Shh! It's hiding in that bush, gasps PC Growler.
09:17Quack! The woodman thumps the bush and out runs a tiny little mouse.
09:23That's what I was trying to tell you, giggles Rupert.
09:27A mouse! Oh no! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
09:32roars the woodman.
09:33Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
09:36Come on then, let's go home, says Mr Bear happily.
09:41Well, well, what a morning,
09:44juckles Mrs Bear as she pours out more tea.
09:47You'll have to get a mousetrap, Mr Bear suggests.
09:50Oh, that's wood. Yum, yum,
09:53says Raggedy, who's hungry again.
09:55I've got a much better idea, cries Podgy happily.
09:59We've got a kitten that needs a good home.
10:02Oh, why, Podgy, what a lovely idea,
10:05says Red Riding Hood's granny gratefully.
10:07I'd love to have a kitten.
10:09Bill comes to see Rupert.
10:12Hello, he says cheerfully.
10:15My pet mouse has just had babies.
10:17Would anybody like one?
