Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong responded to The Workers’ Party (WP) claims on policy adoption, saying "nobody has a monopoly on good ideas". He stressed that it is ultimately not just about voting for the person, but for the party which stands behind her or him, and what the party needs in order to be able to serve Singapore well.

00:00What do I think of the WP manifesto?
00:03What do I think of the WP manifesto?
00:06It is interesting that the opposition says we have good ideas, the government has adopted them.
00:12Nobody has a monopoly of good ideas.
00:15The government does not have a monopoly of good ideas.
00:17Neither does the opposition.
00:19There are ideas which we all talk about.
00:22Some of them the opposition does not like.
00:25Some of them they do.
00:26Some of them, after we have done it, they claim credit for.
00:29And to be fair to them, along the way they have pushed for it.
00:33Sometimes we decide to do it.
00:35Sometimes we have independently made up our minds earlier and implemented it.
00:42So I am not surprised that there are some ideas which we have implemented.
00:45I think it is not possible for anybody to be wrong all the time.
00:49But I would say, taken as a whole, the PAP manifesto program and record
00:56is what Singaporeans can trust and go on.
00:59It is briefer.
01:00It is to the point.
01:02It makes promises which we will fulfil and it will work for Singapore.
01:08I think that is the most important thing.
01:10The opposition slate, the Workers' Party and I suppose the other parties too,
01:16have got new candidates which they have been introducing.
01:20Singaporeans will have to judge them and decide what they would be able to do for Singapore.
01:26And judge them not just as individuals but also as the party they stand for.
01:32And also to consider carefully that when you vote for an MP, you are not just voting for the person.
01:44You are voting for the party which stands behind her or him and what the party needs by way of support and mandate in order to be able to serve Singapore well.
01:59And in the PAP, we are putting forward a good team of people.
02:03They are individually, I think, good men and women.
02:06But at the same time, we are putting forward a slate whose purpose is to form the government in order to provide the best possible leadership for Singapore.
02:17And I hope that I will have Singaporean support.
02:29Thank you very much.
02:31Thank you, Luke.
02:34Thanks.
