Workers’ Party (WP) chief Pritam Singh was responding to a question from the media on the WP’s deployment strategy given that the People’s Action Party (PAP) has yet to unveil its candidates for several closely watched constituencies.

00:07As I mentioned, I think in the first press conference, there are no coincidences to why the PAP have left these announcements late in the day.
00:16So we will be watching it closely.
00:19We have our own plans. I'm sure they have their own plans.
00:22And those plans will be made known on nomination day.
00:26So we are expecting some surprises.
00:28Well, again, it may not be a surprise to me, but it may be a surprise to other people.
00:35Sorry, I'm not being facetious, but certainly the PAP are keeping their cards close to their chest.
00:42And so are we.
00:43So, as you know, we are a price taker, not a price setter.
00:49I say that in the context, for example, of the EBRC.
00:53When the boundaries are redrawn, I request voters to understand how we have to determine what are the best prospects of success for the Workers' Party.
01:05It is a difficult decision to make, and what we do is we continue to work the ground.
01:13Wherever we have been, we will do our best to reach out to as many Singaporeans as possible.
01:17But I have had conversations with many Singaporeans as well.
01:22And when I tell them, look, how do you feel about the fact that the opposition has to keep its cards close to its chest?
01:31And some of the answers are very revealing, and they say, Mr. Singh, we know the party.
01:37We know what the party stands for.
01:38We know what the party works for.
01:40And all we ask is just give us a committed individual who will serve the constituency well, but more importantly, serve us in Parliament.
01:50Ask the questions that are not asked in Parliament.
01:52And so I hold this direction, if I can refer to it as such, as something which I keep quite close to my heart.
02:03And we try and put the best people we can on all our slates.
02:08And they will all be individuals who Singaporeans can be proud of, and the voters in those constituencies can be proud of too.
