00:27customers of ours their january 29th visit to the restaurant however was anything but regular
00:32i was at my first piece of perch and i man they love perch too he was bernice schmitz i looked and
00:41i said jerry are you all right and he couldn't talk he just shook his head no two bites into his main
00:46course jerry schmitz was choking on a piece of his prime rib a surveillance camera caught owner mike
00:52blank and others rushing to help saw jerry not breathing not responsive taking turns performing
00:58the heimlich maneuver over and over again on schmitz without any luck it was very is the old
01:04guy beside him still eating yes the old guy besides sitting right beside him is still eating that man
01:10oh that's not the guy they're saving on the left there i can't see the other guy they pulled him
01:15back a bit here yeah they pulled him back the other guys he's pissed off his meals being interrupted
01:20yeah watch i had this interrupt my perch i noticed he was kind of pale i looked and i said jerry are you
01:28all right and he couldn't talk he just shook his head no two bites into his main course jerry schmitz

01:38to help he doesn't know he can't see anything i kind of looked over at him shut up but he's still
01:45eating right now it's the high thing on schmitz without any luck it's gonna get cold he is eating

03:06wife comes to with that jar of pickles and you know everyone works on it and all of a sudden it comes
03:11to you and you pop it open well all the work's done beforehand and you just did the finishing
03:15compared to an open jar of pickles that's a wisconsin analogy that's wisconsin how do you prepare how
03:21do you compare this story you know what it is training i got from when my wife brings the pickles
03:26over to me when uh she can't open it and i have to use my man's drink that's really what uh was
03:31called into service during this incident yeah truly thank god for you that barb has trouble there
03:39barb can't open a jar of pickles to save the life of her so it's you know because that uh that young
03:46fella was uh he must have crushed that guy's uh lungs about a 500 times because he didn't know what
03:51he was doing breaking his ribs left and lying right you know and then i show up on the scene and i'm like
03:56it's just like barb's pickle job why don't you just move you just move out of the way and use you
04:02you know and then one two and you're done yeah one two the guy's alive the other guy's still eating
04:06his perch you know bernice is fine this is the most wisconsin story ever she got a little tartar
04:14sauce on her on her turtleneck there luckily it was a christmas shirt that's true she doesn't wear
04:20that out a lot you know but i do i i i thank barb every day for being so weak with those pickle
04:26jars being able to uh you know train me for such an incident over there at the supper club you know
04:34perch prime rib and pickle jars it's all wisconsin that's so funny that cop prepared it to that

04:44relief in the restaurant the lodge piece of meat was asked and schmitz was breathing on his own
04:51i don't can i explain it as um you know when your wife comes to with that and you know everyone
04:57works on it all of a sudden it comes to you and you pop it open well all the work's done beforehand
05:00and you just did the finishing touch and it's a team effort all the way around the life-saving
05:06measures ended up breaking two schmidt's ribs oh it did did you hear that broke two of his ribs
05:11of course i think the heimlich when done right will break your ribs especially when you're that old
05:17oh yeah right i think it does basically it's just toothpicks in them right yeah but i guarantee it
05:22was the guy who was must have done 2 500 heimlichs on him and it didn't work yeah that's so small
05:30town wisconsin that i bet the emergency call like dispatch was like yeah jerry schmitz is over there
05:35choking at the supper club uh you need to send somebody out there preferably with pickle jarg training
05:40so that they can not see oh my god not jerry jerry's down jerry schmitz bernice is there watching
05:50him we better oh well i'm gonna do my best to hurry i can't have bernice seeing jerry die
05:56you know his friend just sat there and ate his perch the whole time just to confirm you are pickle

06:25just gone jerry was gone they brought jerry back yeah thank god for pickle jar training i would pay money
