24.Hours in Police Custody S01E02 (6 Oct 2014)
Transcript
00:00Oh, yes! Yes!
00:10Could you even message her, saying, I'm going to talk to you?
00:15I'm going to come to your yard and smash you up.
00:19I'm going to come there with a big knife, yeah?
00:21I'm listening to the tunes, getting ragged up and getting mental.
00:25He knows we're looking for her.
00:27Did you throw her into the door, causing her to cut her lip and gums?
00:32Did you slap her around the head?
00:35Did you grab her by the hair and drag her around?
00:38Show where you are!
00:39Did you grab her by the throat, causing her difficulty to breathe?
00:42Get on the floor now! Get on the floor!
00:44Once the suspect is in custody, the police have 24 hours to investigate and interview.
01:00After that, it's either charge or release.
01:08You have been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking.
01:11On suspicion of stalking.
01:13On suspicion of GBH.
01:15Position and making of indecent images of children.
01:18On suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
01:20Start explaining.
01:21It's the police's job to ask what really happened.
01:28Where were you on the 28th of March?
01:30It was not me. I was not there.
01:32That could have been a hundred and a month evil.
01:34There's nothing in me.
01:35Who's innocent?
01:46Who's guilty?
01:48Why would Pete say that he's assaulted him?
01:50Because he's deluded. He's a drunk.
01:52Well, that's nonsense.
01:54Hey, police! Show me your hand!
01:56From the street to the interrogation rooms.
01:59Where's the knife?
02:00Did you have a knife?
02:01He makes a specific threat that he is going to kill her.
02:05From the suspects to the head of CID.
02:08That's one hell of a shirt, David. I'm loving it.
02:14These are the men and women who have just 24 hours to find the evidence.
02:18I'm not letting him get away with it.
02:20I want him nicked and charged.
02:22If he kicks off, I'm out of the door.
02:25I might love her, not a fighter.
02:27Will they discover it before time runs out?
02:32Good news.
02:34Yeah.
02:35Got him.
02:36Got him.
02:36Right, do you want to just stand in the yellow square?
03:04Yeah, this officer's going to search you.
03:13Let's just make up a miscellaneous items.
03:16And put those both in.
03:17Meeting him was love at first sight, as soon as I saw him, I definitely loved him.
03:28Our relationship was so perfect, it was like my own version of a Hollywood movie style.
03:40Being in love is lovely.
03:41Do you need help with reading or writing?
03:49No.
03:50Do you have any medical conditions?
03:51Do you have any medical conditions?
03:51No.
03:52No.
03:53Any mental health issues?
03:54Yes.
03:55Depression?
03:56Yes.
03:57And how are you feeling now?
04:00Yes.
04:01Yes.
04:02Yes.
04:03You're really overwhelmed, I suspect.
04:04Yes.
04:05Yes.
04:06Yes.
04:07Yes.
04:08Yes.
04:09Yes.
04:10Yes.
04:11Yes.
04:12Yes.
04:13Two allegations have been made, one of harassment, one of theft.
04:17So I'm going to authorise your detention so that you can be interviewed.
04:21And this gives you the opportunity then to give your side of the story.
04:24OK?
04:25You will go into a cell, I'm afraid, until the officer is ready to deal with you.
04:30OK? You just take a seat down there.
04:31The majority of cases brought into custody
04:45are assigned to investigating officers from the Prisoner Handling Unit.
04:49Life can make people behave in strange ways.
04:55There's one incident where the male and female had an argument
04:58of who was the king of pop.
04:59I think he felt it was Elvis Presley and she thought it was Michael Jackson.
05:03She picked up a photo frame and hit him over the head with it.
05:07But he got quite a nasty, serious injury.
05:10Everybody falls in love.
05:12Love goes wrong, no matter who you are.
05:15And sometimes it ends up having the police having to deal with it.
05:23He's saying it's harassment then.
05:25What's he finding harassing and what's she saying to him?
05:27Well, what she's doing, she turned up, I think she turned up at his house
05:34to try and take some belongings and they've split up
05:37and they've got this house together and a lot of the stuff in there
05:40is obviously jointly owned and that.
05:41It does get messy and then it comes to us and sometimes it gets distorted.
05:47Then we have to unravel the mess.
05:51So she must still have keys then?
05:54Yeah.
05:55I think she's still got keys.
05:58But what he did recently was all the stuff that belonged to her,
06:00he's bagged it up and put it outside and she's taken it.
06:03And he is absolutely adamant that nothing in that house belongs to her now.
06:07She's had all her stuff.
06:08We were married in 2012.
06:18How could he have even thought about having me arrested?
06:22A person has taken more control than the other
06:28and whilst they see themselves as a victim,
06:33I would say that the victim is the one that's here right now.
06:37Sounds like a piece of Diane, doesn't it?
06:38I know I'm a good person.
06:57Tom Cruise.
06:58He's a really good, huge icon for me.
07:00He's had his own challenges to face as well
07:06and uses fitness and his mind
07:10to focus out of the scenarios that he's been in.
07:14He's an inspiring character, I think,
07:17to be able to think, what would Tom do right now?
07:21And he's the total opposite of my ex-husband.
07:24So...
07:25Number nine has got a swollen left eye
07:43where he's advised officers that he was punched and kicked to the face.
07:49Number five, she's a young law student.
07:52She was very intoxicated.
07:55And she wet herself twice.
07:58Her shoes are actually wrapped in a plastic bag
08:00because she'd urinated all over them as well.
08:04Number 11
08:05is a very strange chap
08:08who's phoned the police today
08:10and stated that there's a female inside the location
08:14who's being assaulted
08:15and being held against their will.
08:17So police have gone out there
08:19and knocked on the door, no-one answered.
08:22So they've forced entry.
08:23And then this guy's admitted that he's just made it up.
08:27The woman that he's said is being held against her will,
08:30he's having a relationship with, as is some other male.
08:33And she's, like, 70.
08:34So it's all a bit strange.
08:36But he's made this false allegation,
08:38and due to the fact that they've put someone's door in,
08:40he's been brought in for wasting police time.
08:43The other one in M9,
08:48she's been sending unwanted texts.
08:50He's living in the house, which they both own.
08:53He won't let her have access to it.
08:55She's trying to get access so she can get her stuff.
08:58She turns up unannounced.
09:00When he wasn't there,
09:02she basically took some of his clothing
09:04and took him to a charity shop.
09:07And there's a possibility that bail conditions need to be put on that.
09:15Thank you very much.
09:17Officers are trying to arrest Daniel Benjamin.
09:37He's accused of repeatedly assaulting his girlfriend.
09:42Bedfordshire police are making domestic violence a forced priority
09:48after official criticism of their record.
09:53Police believe they know where the suspect is hiding.
10:02Did you hear?
10:03No, it's not there.
10:04Oh, yeah.
10:05You've just got to check all the rooms,
10:07make sure he's locked there and then we'll be bored.
10:10Honestly.
10:11Yeah.
10:12Unfortunately, the job we were in, we can't trust everybody's.
10:14I don't think it could personally, though.
10:15In and out, we'll be done.
10:16I think he's here.
10:17No.
10:18He's not.
10:19He's inside there.
10:20Yeah.
10:21He's inside.
10:22Let's get around here.
10:23He's definitely going to be in there.
10:24Do you know if Daniel's in?
10:25Hi there.
10:26Am I right to have a seat?
10:27No.
10:28No.
10:29No.
10:30No.
10:31No.
10:32No.
10:33No.
10:34No.
10:35No.
10:36No.
10:37No.
10:38No.
10:39No.
10:40No.
10:41No.
10:42No.
10:43No.
10:44No.
10:45No.
10:46No.
10:47No.
10:48No.
10:49No.
10:50No.
10:51No.
10:52No.
10:53No.
10:54No.
10:55No.
10:56No.
10:57No.
10:58No.
10:59No.
11:00No.
11:01No.
11:02No.
11:03No.
11:04No.
11:05No.
11:06No.
11:07No.
11:08No.
11:09No.
11:10No.
11:11No.
11:13No.
11:14Hmm
11:18Job done
11:21He has actually come through your house. I think at one point he was hiding in your living room
11:26Just double-check. There's nothing missing in your living room
11:44Come on
12:00Circumstances, please
12:02Basically, the male has met up with his age partner
12:07and is allowed to continuously send texts of a threatening nature
12:13Can I just add to that, yeah? She's just chatting to your ship
12:16Okay, we've got this report and we've got to deal with you, all right?
12:21So I'll authorise your detention, all right?
12:23So that we can speak to you, all right?
12:25And secure and preserve evidence in relation to this offence, all right?
12:28I've just got some questions that I need to ask
12:32Have you ever tried to harm yourself or commit suicide? Yeah?
12:36When? Recently or a little while ago?
12:38I've done my chest and done my arms
12:40Self-harm, yeah?
12:42You had any alcohol on your drugs in the last 24 hours?
12:45Last night
12:46Last night, yeah? Was that alcohol and drugs or just alcohol?
12:48Um, I just sniffed
12:50Just sniffed
12:51Yeah?
12:52Would you say your dependents are addicted to alcohol, drugs or anything else?
12:56Yeah, I remember
12:57Yeah?
12:58Anything else you think I should know, Daniel, while you're here?
13:02That you haven't already told me?
13:03No
13:04Justine, and I even put Justine here
13:05Thank you, I think I was confident
13:07Is PC Anderson calling for Bedfordshire Police?
13:13I'm
13:14Yes, he is
13:16But he is definitely in police custody at the moment
13:28I deal with each domestic incident as how it is presented to me
13:33I don't judge people
13:35You get a lot of bitterness, a lot of anger, a lot of frustration
13:39People say to you, but everyone's like that, everyone has it, everyone does this
13:44And it's like, yeah, but not everyone then slaps their partner around the face
13:48The bits and pieces I've got in front of me are the assault that dates back to October
13:52Because he got aggressive towards you and hit you round the back of the head
13:55And then I've got, er, some messages that he sent you
14:01Which apparently said he'd put money on your head
14:05If someone comes into police custody, if I've got enough reasons to keep him in
14:10We can keep them for 24 hours
14:12Erm, the problem that I have is we obviously don't have an account from you
14:16Or your phone, your messages or anything
14:19So, ideally, I'm going to need a statement from you today
14:25Alright, I'll speak to you in a little while, OK?
14:27OK, bye
14:31In cases of domestic assault, victims often refuse to support prosecution
14:37Well, I've tracked down our victim
14:39He's phoned her and said, I know where you are, I'm going to come there, I'm going to do you in
14:45But, erm, no, she's really upset because she's like, but he'll get out, won't he?
14:49And I said, well, at the moment, with the paperwork I've got in front of me
14:53That looks very likely
14:56It's never been easier
14:59Domestics are really, really complex circumstances
15:03You're not just talking about two random people who don't know each other
15:06You're talking about people who are involved in an intimate relationship
15:09Who have feelings in one way, shape or form for that person
15:13There are so many factors that have to be considered
15:16I'll come and see you in a few minutes, mate, just a bit
15:18You know what, mate?
15:19OK
15:20Last few years
15:21Everything's gone wrong due to girls, basically, due to, like, relationships that I've been in and that
15:36And just, they've been my downfall lately
15:39I met her, like, December
15:44And then
15:46I got arrested from her
15:48It's April last year
15:49I went to prison and it all just started from there, really
15:52It's been a bit downhill from there
15:54Like, stuff had happened when I was in prison and stuff
15:58Like, I shared a baby with someone else
16:01And then we got back together and that, like, obviously
16:04It's just, it's got worse and they're really in it
16:07It's just, like
16:09It's just fucked, really, to be honest
16:15Who's the fucking bitch on bitch argument, basically?
16:34Sharon has been arrested for harassing her husband
16:45After the collapse of their marriage
16:48I kept thinking of all those people sitting round the table at our wedding
16:51And all those expectant faces just thinking that that's going to go on forever
16:57P.C. Sheraldine Liversidge is examining Sharon's husband's allegations
17:07In the sky
17:10Diamond
17:12Shine bright like a diamond
17:14Shine bright like a diamond
17:20Bright like a diamond
17:27White's exposed to her breasts
17:30The victim rebuffed her sexual advances
17:34So she broke in through an open window
17:36And she's walked round the house and then nicked his iPhone
17:39But then he didn't do nothing about that
17:41This is just the conduct of harassment
17:43That's quite a bit of it
17:44So I'm just doing the most poignant ones that I need
17:48Not poignant, the most, um, significant ones
17:52My question is, why are we investigating this?
17:54I think we're all human, aren't we?
17:56I'm not
17:57I think the human that hasn't made a mistake has never been born
17:59I'm an alien
18:00The human that has never
18:01Actually, I'm not
18:02I'm superhuman
18:03God-like
18:06According to Emma
18:07Yep
18:09God-like wisdom
18:10So his blue eyes would do it for her
18:12Something else, actually
18:13But we won't mention that at work
18:16Oh, right
18:17Sausage
18:18There we go
18:19Sierra whiskey kilo
18:22You know the worst thing is when people say
18:24Oh, it'll get better
18:26Time's a great healer
18:27You don't want to hear that
18:29Because that person has your heart
18:32Victim of after sexual advances
18:35And she walked around the house
18:37Oh, this is fucking a nightmare, trust me
18:43Relentlessly stressed
18:45Are you good at massage?
18:46Are you good at massage?
18:47Are you good at massage?
18:48Are you good at massage?
19:00After you, sexy little thing
19:02We've spoken to your ex-husband
19:09And he's made
19:11Sorry?
19:12He's not my ex-husband
19:13Oh, sorry
19:14Your husband
19:15He's still married, I appreciate that
19:16Ex-partner, shall I say
19:18He's made us aware of some other property
19:20In relation to camera lenses
19:22That haven't been recovered
19:23So I mean...
19:24I just realised why he's doing this, don't you?
19:25I'll speak to you in interview
19:26I can't really speak about it now
19:27Because we need to save that for interview
19:29Is your son at home?
19:30I assume, so I don't know
19:32But why...
19:33It's because we need to go back to your address
19:35Just to look for these lenses
19:38The quicker we do this
19:39The quicker I can have this dealt with
19:41Okay
19:42Okay
20:07Hello, Josh, is it?
20:08Yeah, hiya
20:09I believe my colleague, Cheryl Dean
20:11Called up to say that
20:12We'd be on our way from Luton
20:13Yeah
20:14Yeah, brilliant
20:19Okay, basically
20:20What we call a Section 18 search warrant
20:23These are the details of the grounds
20:25In particular
20:26What we're looking for
20:27Is a set of camera lenses
20:29They're the items that we're searching for
20:31In relation to the case
20:32For which your mum's been arrested
20:34Do you want us to lead the way?
20:36Yeah
20:37Might make things a bit easier
20:39My mum's dad had already given her away on her first marriage
20:57So he thought it would be quite nice for me to give her away
21:00It was lovely, it was a proud moment
21:03Obviously anything that is seized that, you know, is not part of the investigation or we no longer need
21:11It does get returned back to you
21:13My mum has been arrested on three occasions for harassment
21:18She's been forcefully removed from the house while I've been here in handcuffs
21:24It's just been very traumatic for both me and my mum
21:28And it's very hard to see her that way and deal with that
21:34You believe they're innocent
21:36And they then get taken away
21:38It's very difficult to see that happen
21:40It's something that I don't wish upon anybody
21:42It's something that I don't wish upon anybody
21:44Danielle Benjamin was arrested five hours ago
22:02Daniel Benjamin was arrested five hours ago.
22:19Officers are still trying to piece together enough evidence
22:21to ensure that he's remanded to prison.
22:24This is just lots of assaults, basically, over a long time frame.
22:30It doesn't look like she's gone to the doctors at any point,
22:34so I can't see that there's any other lines of inquiries for that.
22:38Without medical evidence to support an ABH, we're screwed.
22:42Ductatting my hands together,
22:45two Facebook messages and approximately 100 missed calls.
22:50She's given a statement in relation to the assault.
22:53Yeah.
22:53But then she reported receiving messages from him again.
22:57Yes.
22:57Saying, I know where you are.
22:59I'm going to come and do you in.
23:01So she says she's still got the voicemail messages for that.
23:05But her statement doesn't really say how she knows it's his number.
23:09No, but she says she's happy to give us a statement tonight.
23:13Right.
23:14And she's in Luton.
23:16OK, if we hear a statement from her
23:17clarifying how she knows that that's his number...
23:20Happy days!
23:22Boom!
23:23Hold on toya.
23:45Let's do it.
23:46I know.
23:46Bye.
23:47Bye.
23:48Bye!
23:48All right, Sharon, if you'd like to sit in that seat there for me, please.
24:02This interview is being recorded and may be given in evidence if this case goes to trial.
24:08I am PC 982 Liversidge, stationed at Luton Police Station with the Prisoner Handling Unit.
24:13Your current husband, who you've separated from, has made these allegations of harassment
24:17and the theft of the camera and the camera lenses and some clothing.
24:23My first question to you, Sharon, is, are you responsible for these offences for which you've been arrested?
24:29I can't agree that I am responsible for the offences.
24:34When I left the house, I did take a lot of things that were in a spare bedroom,
24:40but later on I did see that there were some T-shirts of his,
24:45which, obviously, I don't want to really be in contact with him necessarily about it.
24:50So, with my things, I took them to the charity shop.
24:54Was there any other clothing apart from T-shirts?
25:00Shirts and T-shirts is what I remember.
25:02What type of shirts?
25:06Ted Baker or Armani or something.
25:10But, see, my son has got very similar clothes, so...
25:15Are they of similar build?
25:17Yeah.
25:18They are.
25:19OK, when you realised that they were your husband's clothing, what did you do with them?
25:25I scooped the whole lot up and just took it down to the charity shop.
25:29Did you make mention at all to him about having these clothing?
25:32We have discussed the clothes.
25:34I actually informed him through by his girlfriend as well.
25:37And I said, just let him know I've taken them to the charity shop,
25:39so I can't actually do anything about that anymore.
25:43He's saying it's a friend of his.
25:44That's his girlfriend, yeah.
25:45He says it's a good friend who he's having to stay at the house
25:49to look after the dogs when he's not there.
25:54I just want to speak to you about an email.
25:56She hasn't given me a date, but an email was sent to her.
26:00And I'm just going to read it out.
26:02After what the two of you started together,
26:05he is lucky that I only took some of them and dumped them in the charity
26:08rather than leaving shredded in the wardrobe like scorned wives usually do.
26:12Can you remember sending that email to Angela?
26:16Yeah, that sounds about right, yeah.
26:17OK.
26:19Just a bit about leaving them shredded in the wardrobe like a scorned wife usually do.
26:25Have you got any comments to make about that part of the email?
26:27Some people who are scorned wives do all sorts of things.
26:31And I could have made things very difficult for them.
26:34I think they're very lucky that I've sat back and let them get on with it
26:36and moved out of the house for them.
26:38And, you know, so really I think they're quite, you know,
26:43they're lucky that I'm the sort of person I am, really.
26:46And in relation to, he's saying there's a number of lenses that you've also taken.
26:54No, I haven't taken any lenses.
26:56You haven't taken any?
26:57I have my own lenses because, to be honest with you,
27:01the ones that he's got are rubbish.
27:02OK.
27:06Forgive me for not understanding the relevance of all this.
27:10The relevance is he's alleging that they're his lenses.
27:13What, my lenses?
27:15You say they're your lenses.
27:17He's saying they're his.
27:19Right, OK.
27:19So they've been seized and what will happen is till we establish what we've got here
27:26and how we can prove ownership of who owns what,
27:31then obviously this investigation won't be ongoing till we get that.
27:36Has there been any letters from your solicitor
27:39asking for any of your property from that marital home?
27:43Yes, lots, yeah.
27:44Christmas decorations, clothing, books, games, jigsaw puzzles, all sorts.
27:52He's saying that you've got no property in that marital home whatsoever.
27:58He knows that I've got stuff there,
27:59including a rather nice mountain bike, which I really like back.
28:03The other day, I was just out and about
28:12and he randomly messaged me.
28:16But this is the kind of thing I mean.
28:18He just does random stuff.
28:21I don't know.
28:22He confuses me.
28:23Do you reckon he's just kind of...
28:25I think he's scared.
28:28I think he does probably like her.
28:31He just doesn't want to be with her.
28:33That's why he's keeping you there.
28:35He's throwing you a little lifeline.
28:36Keep tagging along to me.
28:39It's possible.
28:40It's highly possible.
28:43Oh, you know.
28:55To be sure of a charge,
28:57Kat needs a statement from Daniel Benjamin's girlfriend.
28:59She's sending investigating officer Olly Kotis
29:03to try and get one.
29:05Right, so Lacey, you want me to go there,
29:07talk about any messages that she's received.
29:09Yeah.
29:10How did she get...
29:11I said she changed her number.
29:12How did...
29:13How would you think it's him?
29:14How did you know it's him?
29:16And how do you...
29:18How did you get your number?
29:19Yeah, ask her the last time she had civil contact with him.
29:23Does she sound like a nice lady?
29:28I think she's all right.
29:29Sally's already Google, that's the address.
29:34It's bungalows in a street, basically.
29:37Okay, I'm going to ask you about another incident.
29:52He was in bed,
29:54and it's allegedly that you climbed through an open window
29:57at the rear of the house,
29:58and then you've allegedly said to him,
30:00come on, you know you want it,
30:02let's talk about it.
30:03At the same time, he's saying that you exposed your breast to him.
30:10Did he say what he means by, you know you want it?
30:14He's saying that there are sexual advances that you made,
30:17and the words were that you said,
30:19come on, you know you want it, let's talk about it.
30:22I went round there to talk to him,
30:25and then he put the kettle on,
30:27and I said, well, I don't really want tea.
30:30He's saying that you entered
30:31through an open rear window.
30:34I did, yeah.
30:35Okay, can you explain why you entered that way?
30:39When I tried to get in through the front,
30:40I knocked on the door beforehand,
30:43and that's when I went round the back.
30:45Okay.
30:45Did he respond to that knocking on the door?
30:47No.
30:48Right.
30:49So did he respond to you
30:50before you got in through the open window?
30:52No.
30:53But the fact that he didn't want to let you in
30:58through the door,
31:00you know,
31:02and you've then entered through an open window.
31:05But then, obviously, because I got in,
31:07he was like, okay,
31:08well, do you want tea then?
31:09So I'll put the kettle on.
31:10I'm like, well,
31:10I don't really want my kettle on,
31:12but, you know, that's fine.
31:12If you want to make me tea, that's fine.
31:15I didn't really come round for tea.
31:17You know,
31:17I just thought we could just talk.
31:18What was the reasons for you attending
31:26at that time of night?
31:32Because I wanted to speak with him
31:34and to have sex with him.
31:43Was there any prior arrangement
31:45before you attending?
31:46No, I don't need a prior arrangement.
31:48And that sort of thing.
31:53He's saying that
31:54that you'd exposed your breasts to him
31:58and made sexual advances,
31:59but he rebuffed that.
32:01Did you have any sexual contact?
32:04We embraced, I would call it,
32:05if that's the proper word for it.
32:07You know, we had done.
32:08So you embraced
32:08and he offered you a cup of tea?
32:10Yeah.
32:12The fact that he's, you know,
32:14he's had you arrested
32:15for an allegation of harassment
32:17in the past.
32:19Does that not give you an indication
32:21that he probably doesn't want
32:22contact with you?
32:24Well, he's never expressed
32:26that he doesn't want
32:26to have contact with me.
32:28So if he wants to actually express that,
32:31if that's what he's trying to say,
32:32then he should just say,
32:33I don't want to have,
32:35you know,
32:35I'm not a mind reader.
32:36He could just say,
32:37I don't want to have anything
32:38to do with you directly.
32:40Please can we deal
32:40just through the solicitors?
32:42But, you know,
32:43it would seem logical
32:43not to have any form
32:45of contact with him whatsoever
32:46and to try and hope
32:49that the solicitors
32:49can make headway.
32:50But they're not getting anywhere,
32:51to be honest with you.
32:53OK.
32:55OK, I've got no further questions
32:56for you.
32:57Is there anything else
32:57you wish to add?
32:58I don't think so.
33:01It's like having a baby
33:02being here, isn't it?
33:03You sort of kind of,
33:04when it comes to the end,
33:05you kind of forget
33:05all the pain that you've been through.
33:07But Daniel,
33:13I'm going to be interviewing you
33:15in a little while.
33:17Right, you've almost been arrested
33:18for harassment so far.
33:21I've got all my paperwork
33:22and there's a couple more things
33:23that I need to further arrest you for.
33:25OK.
33:26So, I have my list in front of me.
33:30I'm also going to arrest you
33:32for an assault,
33:33occasionally actual bodily harm,
33:34which happened on the 6th October 2013.
33:38Further,
33:38eight alleged assaults
33:39and also failing to surrender
33:41to police custody
33:42on the 2nd of October 2013.
33:44So, I need to put those
33:45to you in interview.
33:47So,
33:48of course,
33:48you know,
33:48you do not have to say anything
33:49that may harm your friends.
33:50If you do not mention now,
33:51subterranean call,
33:52anything you do so
33:52may be given an evidence.
33:53OK?
33:54OK.
33:55All right.
34:06His messages are horrible.
34:07It's four pages.
34:09She's got these four voicemail messages.
34:12It's like,
34:12I'm going to smash you in,
34:13you fucking c**t.
34:14I'm going to come there
34:15with a big knife.
34:15I'm listening.
34:17You get real.
34:18I'm going to fucking...
34:19You've pissed me right off.
34:20Really, really horrible voicemails.
34:22And in the end,
34:23she said,
34:24she says,
34:24and I still love him.
34:25So, I've written it in there
34:26that she still loves him
34:27and still wants to be with him.
34:29He feels nice.
34:31Really, really horrible.
34:32Yeah?
34:33So,
34:33is that all right?
34:34That's great.
34:35Thank you very much.
34:35Do you leave me for anything else?
34:36No, that's it.
34:46After 12 hours
34:47in police custody,
34:48Sharon is waiting
34:49to be bailed
34:50and released.
34:51You just feel
34:52completely distraught.
34:54Because you actually...
34:55It's easier
34:56than I ever thought
34:58to be on this side
34:59of that door.
35:01It's...
35:01You know,
35:02I'm a normal person.
35:03I'm a normal mother.
35:05And I was saying
35:07to the police officers
35:08that brought me in here
35:09that the divide
35:10between where you are now
35:12and where I am
35:13is about a hair's breadth.
35:19All right.
35:20Miss and Mrs.
35:21Ms.
35:22Ms.
35:23Come after the desk
35:23for us, would you?
35:25You're going to get bailed out
35:26to the office
35:26and carry out
35:27some further inquiries.
35:28Have I dealt with you before?
35:30No.
35:31I have been here before
35:32so you may recognize
35:33the name.
35:34No, I recognize your face
35:35I think.
35:36I'm...
35:36I'm Nicole Kidman.
35:39Is that what they...
35:40That's what people say.
35:41Is that what people tell you
35:42or you keep telling people?
35:43People tell me all the time.
35:44Do you hear that?
35:46Nicole Kidman.
35:47Anything we can help you with
35:52before you go?
35:53That's very kind of you
35:54but I have transport
35:58when it arrives
35:59and I should be fine.
36:00Okay.
36:01That's it.
36:01No worries.
36:02Take care of yourself.
36:04Great.

41:44yeah come up to charge this daniel
41:52i'm gonna charge you
41:57hi mr benjamin
42:16um three charges uh in relation to these matters you've been arrested for
42:22officers can read them out to you and i'll give you an option to make any reply if you want to
42:28after that all right just listen up
42:31thank you
42:34right being charged with harassment to put in fear of violence by your course of conduct which you knew you ought to have known
42:40will cause fear of violence in each occasion in that the voicemail messages left on her phone were of a threatening and violent nature
42:46you're also being charged with harassment
42:48and you're also being charged with phone to surrender to police court bail at the appointed time
42:52you do not have to say anything but it may have a penalty if you do not mention now something to be later on in court and anything you do say may be given in evidence
42:59do you want to say anything in relation to those matters no sign over there then for the charge been read out to you please
43:04and do you want to know if you're getting bail
43:07no you're not so you don't know why um basically i've looked at all your previous convictions and the
43:14uh reason i'm going to give you bail is for fear that you commit further offences if you're allowed to leave this custody
43:19uh and also
43:20well listen to my bullshit then because you need to know don't you yeah it might be bullshit to you but listen to it anyway
43:27and they've agreed
43:29i haven't done some of these things yet but you know what when i get out it's cool innit
43:32when i get out from prison it's cool innit
43:35what's cool
43:35that's what i'm gonna say innit
43:36you'll have your day in court
43:39if you feel you haven't done anything wrong these charges have been wrongly imposed on you then fair enough fight the case at court
43:44that's your opportunity
43:45alright
43:46yeah i just just wanted
43:56so i take you to vermont didn't you
43:59yep
44:00no dramas or that

44:05my parents text me half an hour ago
44:10oh you're still at work
44:11yes
44:13daniel benjamin was remanded in custody while awaiting trial
44:27a couple of days later she said that she wanted to withdraw her statement
44:35she wasn't willing to go to court anymore
44:38she said that she still loved him was in a relationship with him
44:43had been all along
44:44the reason she'd made the complaint was because she was angry with him at the time
44:50she'd been living in a refuge and she'd had an awful lot of support
44:55and she'd got custody back of her child
44:58and then she told me that she'd given up custody of her child again given up her house and essentially she'd chosen him over everything that she'd achieved
45:13she is a really nice girl
45:19it makes me really sad and i promised her that i'll phone her every set that i'm on just to check that she's all right
45:26because i think there is a certain amount of responsibility that we hold for people
45:31but if they're not willing to accept the help what more can i do what more can we do
45:37you know obviously we take love from lots of different situations and each relationship i think you learn from
45:55a relationship is like a garden it's like a new garden and you've got to keep replanting the flowers that die you've got a deadhead japansies
46:16i have to look for the relationship people tell me that i deserve so i have hope
46:22i'm a very romantic person
46:26i've been so happy with that i've been so grateful to them
46:31i've always liked to have a little bit to be a little bit so i've never had a hard time
46:35and i'll throw it down
46:36i'll show you
46:38i will say
46:41i'll show you
46:42i'll show you
46:44i'll show you
46:47but i'll show you
46:52i mean
