00:00The vast Bering Sea, over a million square miles of the world's most violent and unpredictable
00:12waters, and home of the deadliest catch, Alaskan crab.
00:19It's a new king crab season on Alaska's Bering Sea.
00:24A handful of adventurers will battle the weather, rogue waves, and deadly steel for a chance
00:36at big money in this modern-day gold rush.
00:45These Alaskan waters have already claimed three lives since the season opened, now halfway
00:50to the finish.
00:52Towering waves and mind-numbing fatigue push the men into making life-threatening mistakes.
01:01The hunt continues for the deadliest catch.
01:20Whoah!
01:26Yeah!
01:31Whoah!
01:38Whoah!
01:43250 miles east-northeast of Dutch Harbor is the Northwestern.
01:59Right now these guys are on the biggest biomass of king crab they've seen in years, and all
02:03of Captain Sig's fishing gear is on these grounds.
02:07Nice crab, nice and big, clean looking.
02:10His strategy of fishing 300 pots instead of the usual 150 is working, but 300 pots means
02:16an endless cycle of fishing for his crew.
02:19You know, believe it or not, I can do this all day long, my arms will never get tired.
02:25So I just put my heart on ice, but now when I'm home, cause you just might need the rest.
02:38Ah!
02:41Hi!
02:42Hi!
02:44Hi!
02:46Hi!
02:48Hi!
02:49Hi!
02:50Hi!
02:51Hi!
02:52Hi!
02:53Hi!
02:54Hi!
02:55I'm coming!
02:56I think we're running out of room.
03:06Those spots where, you know, you get your little piles,
03:09and then you have 10 pots of blanks,
03:11and then you come into these 80s and 100s,
03:13and then it's blank, blank, blank.
03:15You can keep it, man.
03:16I'll take this any day.
03:18The Northwestern crew is on the string of a lifetime,
03:25and the numbers just keep climbing.
03:2860.
03:29Ho!
03:30Woo-hoo!
03:32That's where I like to go.
03:366-6.
03:3766.
03:38This string is on fire.
03:42Yeah, this is like the Bermuda Sea.
03:44This is like the Bermuda Sea.
03:46Yeah, this is like the Bermuda Triangle of crap.
03:49This is where they all disappeared to.
03:5177.
03:53I like it.
03:54Oh, my God.
03:56Yeah, good.
03:58Yeah, baby.
03:59Woo-hoo, woo-hoo!
04:01Wow.
04:021-1-1.
04:031-1-1.
04:041-1-1.
04:05Beautiful.
04:06This string is a string that turned everything around for us today.
04:10Picked up morale.
04:11It stuffed our front tank.
04:13They've been hauling gear and sorting monster crab for 32 straight hours.
04:17Their spirits are high, but their bodies are beginning to give out.
04:20On a short jog to the next string, they collapse on deck.
04:24This is the voodoo lounge.
04:25This is where we hang out.
04:26When we can't go inside, we're not hauling gear.
04:28We're talking about anything except for fishing.
04:30The captain's buzzer signals that break time is over.
04:45Sig's been in the wheelhouse as long as his guys have been hauling gear.
04:50But stopping down when the fishing is this hot is unthinkable.
04:53Right now, it's nice.
04:54We might as well take advantage of it.
04:56You guys are, well, you look dead dog tired.
04:59I don't look tired.
05:00Go ahead.
05:01No, you look dead.
05:02You'll wake up.
05:06Over 32 hours of grinding gear turns men into machines, just the way Sig likes it.
05:29Robots are good.
05:34Robots don't think.
05:42Robots are used to repetition.
05:51Robots don't complain.
05:56If he had any motivation skills at all, they were lost long ago.
06:02The only thing that keeps us going down here is money.
06:05Robots are little zombies.
06:17As spirits on deck sink, the weather picks up.
06:21It sucks for us because you always got to be watching.
06:26My bad.
06:28The weather will wake you up a little more than coffee right now.
06:33Air-worldäll.
06:34In fact, you're not cockeyling.
06:35Man involves buying five mails for everything that experienced.
06:36I haven't done it.
06:37Don't getThere to be a very simple commandese.
06:38It must've been so Ø·ie carte carte carte carte carte
06:39Hold on.
06:41What kind of interface?
07:09still real good numbers with 90 pots to go sig and his robots have a long grind ahead of them
07:20morning in Dutch Harbor captain Phil has just finished offloading his first hundred thousand
07:30pounds were caught in just 405 pots Phil is now the man to beat for the captain's wager
07:37but right now his mind is on a broken propeller that could keep him sidelined for the rest of the
07:48season my stomach's in knots this morning kind of cranky I just want to get this over with the
07:56propeller though made it out of Anchorage this morning so that's good the special order prop
08:04was flown 1,400 miles to Dutch I got gear out in the Bering Sea we're supposed to be crab fishing
08:10I'm delivering 150,000 pounds and now I'm screwed do you have any propellers you can put on the boat
08:16a diver goes in to remove the broken prop
08:25a small nut at the end of the shaft comes off easily the larger nut holding the prop on the
08:39drive shaft refuses to budge the work's going slow and Phil can see the dollar signs rack up
08:50four o'clock in the afternoon down now he's been down there you know four hours but the prop still
08:58won't budge just aggravating you know I'm just you know this whole thing is costing a fortune
09:03I just hope that everybody can do this well
09:05it's a big job
09:08hand tools are not enough to remove the prop so they resort to more drastic measures
09:15in order to pop it off I use a little tiny explosive charge to knock it loose from that
09:20fifth and then it's ready for now this device right here just provides an electrical pulse that
09:25that needs the charge down there a nervous Phil feels his blood pressure rising I heard a story
09:34once where a guy put a charge on a wheel and blew the whole stern tube out of the boat almost sank the
09:38sucker right at the dock that would probably go along with the day we've been having
09:45well I don't hear any of our alarms going off so apparently he did it right
09:58the explosion jars the prop loose
10:02what a shame well I'm looking at a $35,000 prop that's got half a fluke missing
10:14we'll get it put back on and be out of here in the morning and I anticipate going out and get
10:27myself back in the little zone that I need to be in and we'll finish this thing off this season
10:31but news from the docks could change his plans
10:35what's wrong now remember when they asked you about your wheel yeah you got the wrong wheel or
10:41else it's a different pitch I mean left hand rotation left hand rotation here uh this is the opposite wheel
10:49Dan did they send the wrong wheel
10:54well maybe I'll just go home and have dinner but I don't think we're putting wheel on
10:57while the season slips away the Cornelia Marie sits
11:01helpless in Dutch Harbor
11:05two hundred five miles northeast of Dutch Harbor the maverick is fishing in heavy seas
11:09and blinding snow
11:12the maverick is fishing in heavy seas and blinding snow
11:46like the northwestern this crew has been working non-stop for 38 hours
12:00it's been up close to two days now probably
12:09it's been a grind Blake's been grinding the heck out of us
12:15trying to get these crabs to take to Akatan
12:18I'm sure I'm not their favorite person with no end in sight Blake continues to push his men
12:31dangerously close to the breaking point
12:33I know they're tired I know they're beaten up and ready for bed but
12:39it's part of crab fishing that's how it goes
12:42whoever stays up the longest works the hardest makes the most money
12:47as Blake pushes the men harder his deck boss pulls them back
12:52now at this point in time where it comes out everybody just slow down a pace
12:57just slow down a step you know Blake knows you know we've been up for 30 some hours
13:04just to slow down a notch
13:06slow and steady
13:07yep
13:08keep it up
13:09then fishing comes to a complete halt
13:16when an important piece of safety equipment breaks
13:19hang on I'll be down there in a second
13:32broke the launcher
13:35this dog is what holds the pot into place on the launcher when we go to shake him to get
13:41the crab out it holds the pot in place so it doesn't go anywhere
13:44the dog is a hydraulically operated clamp that holds the 700 pound pot in place while the men
13:51are working with it so it won't move or fall injuring someone
13:55if you don't have these dogs you're out of business
14:00Blake goes down on deck leaving Scott at the helm
14:04um Blake's the master welder so he's up there trying to weld stainless tube some regular metal
14:11but uh hopefully it'll work otherwise uh we're gonna be begging for a ram or heading back to town
14:20he's graduated to captain but he's still the best engineer on the boat
14:24both of our spares are broke or don't work so we're fabricating an end up of a good one that was too short
14:33it's a little bit bigger but it should fit just fine as long as my weld holds
14:42yeah this needs to go
14:44the fix is dicey if the weld breaks a ton of crab and pot could land on one of the crew
14:51that's all I'm getting
14:54that's it
14:56guys be real careful
14:59how about we give it a test run
15:05yeah I think we're ready to go again
15:14just uh see how many more plots we can get before that weld breaks
15:21captain Blake doesn't know how long his exhausted crew will last
15:25or how long his welds will hold but he intends to push them both to the breaking point
15:3289 miles to the northwest at 4 a.m.
15:35captain Greg Moncrief on the far west leader is setting a string of pots heading into 25 foot swells
15:41it's not real pretty for the guys but we've got to get the pots in where the crab are so
15:48they're tough they can take it
15:58they're tough they can take it
16:05sleepy
16:20while the far west leader makes a 30 minute run to the next string the exhausted crew grab some rest anywhere they can
16:26coming up
16:33when they arrive at the string
16:37gonna be wet boys
16:39the seas are still wicked
16:43junior deckhand Ricky Lopez takes a turn on the hydros
16:57crane
17:00but he neglects to secure the thousand pound pot with the dogs
17:04yo yo yo hey
17:13whoa whoa
17:14grab the crane
17:15grab the crane
17:17it's alright grab the crane
17:19what happened?
17:20he dumped the
17:22dumped the table that's why you don't stand behind it
17:25here
17:26dog slipped off
17:27swing the crane over right here
17:29through the hook
17:31that's why Ricky doesn't run the hydraulics
17:34because he's not good at it
17:36if anyone had been crossing behind the table
17:39the results would have been disastrous
17:42get off the crane Ricky let me get it
17:44engineer Chile Anderson takes over the deck and the crane
17:47okay look it up right there
17:48okay we're coming up everybody clear in the back
17:51yeah
17:52okay we're coming up all the way here we go
17:54okay swing it aft watch out
17:56swing it aft
17:57swing it aft
17:59get out of the way Mabel
18:01get out of the way
18:02okay let's clear our table
18:03Toto
18:04shoot over there somebody
18:06okay we're all square
18:10things cool
18:11that's when somebody couldn't get him
18:14yeah that's why you don't stand behind it
18:16okay pick and hook
18:17here we go
18:18pick and hook Ricky
18:22you don't need to yell at him
18:24to make him feel like an idiot in front of everybody
18:26he knows he's done it long enough
18:28he knows he up so you don't need to make him feel worse
18:32and belittle him
18:34fatigue is leading to accidents
18:36and the captain of the far west leader
18:38has yet to find the big catch
18:40how many Ricky?
18:44Dutch Harbor, Alaska
18:46the Cornelia Marie has sat idle for days
18:48finally the second replacement propeller arrives
18:51the waiting has made Phil's blood pressure climb dangerously high
19:00easy on my big job
19:02you know and it makes me sick because I was on the best crab fishing of my life
19:07and we'll get there again but yesterday I was pretty down the dumps
19:12it gets to you
19:13with his boat on the mend Phil hits town to have his own health checked by the Dutch Harbor medic
19:19meanwhile the repair crew goes to work
19:28the 500 pound prop is lowered into the water
19:30and the difficult task of attaching it to the shaft begins
19:41Phil returns with alarming news
19:44my blood pressure is up like 180 or 185 over 120
19:51it's a package deal Phil we need you and the bugs
19:55but when he hears that his sons Jake and Josh have been on a spending spree
20:01Phil's blood pressure soars
20:03Phil's blood pressure
20:05Roger?
20:06these guys are cut off
20:07no more charging
20:08and I'm not talking about nothing
20:10while Phil has spent thousands fixing his boat
20:14his sons have been using his credit card
20:16you guys are the only ones that have ever done that
20:20it ends
20:21you don't even ask
20:22that's
20:24no more
20:26we used to buy a pair of rain gear and a pair of boots to go fishing
20:30going out spending a thousand
20:31fifteen hundred
20:33charge charge charge
20:34he don't even ask
20:36you know what I'm the bank here
20:39but I didn't have any gear before I came on this boat
20:42don't talk
20:43zero
20:45do I look like the first national bank?
20:47bank of Phil?
20:48bank of Phil?
20:49I'm spending a thousand bucks an hour here
20:51he's just out charging away like
20:53bank of Phil?
20:54bank of Phil?
20:55yeah I bet you do
20:56what?
20:57he just decides that
20:59since we're family
21:00he's just gonna yell and scream at somebody
21:02it might as well be
21:03he rolls downhill
21:04and that's about how that one goes
21:06Jake tries to soften up the old man
21:08grab your shoulders a little bit
21:10oh my god
21:12I didn't even
21:13relieve the tension a little bit
21:16I guess now it's a bad time I'm asking for a draw
21:22he's got
21:23you know
21:24look at this
21:27hey I had to buy these boots
21:29I almost f*****g had my legs
21:31trying to tie up with some tennis shoes on
21:33hey they're worth it
21:34how much?
21:35this helps me help you
21:36oh please
21:37hit the bricks
21:38you too
21:39just for
21:40get the hell out of here
21:41I'm smoking
21:42I don't get
21:43just
21:44get
21:45get
21:47we love you too dad
21:48I love you too
21:49get the hell out of my wheelhouse
21:51as the day fades
21:53the repair is finished
21:54and Phil tests the new problem
21:58we'll run out here for probably half hour
22:01and if everything looks good
22:02we'll go back to the dock
22:03fuel it up and get out here
22:04Phil desperately wants to get back to the fishing grounds
22:07and get his life and blood pressure back to normal
22:10205 miles to the northeast of Dutch Harbor
22:16the maverick has nearly filled its hold
22:19hopefully we got pretty close to 43,000 pounds
22:23I don't know I think we might be a little bit short
22:25but I don't think anybody cares at this point
22:28this might be the last pot we might get some sleep here after this
22:31so far Blake's weld has held
22:36but his men are about to break
22:38did you still want to be a king crab fisherman?
22:42do I have much of a choice at this point?
22:45the final pot comes up big
22:48alright guys excellent job
22:50there's more than 50 keepers
22:53most boats would kill for these numbers
22:55but the tired greenhorn crew just wants to sleep
22:59Blake turns the boat toward the island of Accutan
23:06where he'll offload the maverick's catch
23:08you know I think I personally have a lot on the line
23:14just more with myself than anybody
23:17you know I want to prove to myself
23:19that I can come out here and do it
23:20I want to prove to these guys mainly
23:22that you know they can look up to me
23:24they can trust me to get him on the crab
23:26to make him money
23:27as far as guys that I respect that run other boats
23:30Phil, Corky, Rick
23:32you know a lot of these guys
23:34yeah it means a lot to me to prove myself to them
23:36to show them that you know
23:37that I've earned this job and that I can do it
23:40Blake has spent most of the season
23:42trying to gain the respect of the other skippers
23:44but when he spots one of Captain Phil's pots
23:48his desire for respect is trumped by his need for revenge
23:52we're gonna go fiddle with Blake a little bit
23:59a few days ago Captain Phil screwed with one of Blake's pots
24:03thanks Blake
24:05there goes a great big pain in the
24:07now it's Blake's turn
24:10Phil's pot has at least 60 crab
24:19they'll top off Blake's tanks nicely
24:22oh supposedly Phil missed one of our pots
24:25Blake makes sure the crew does it right
24:31they're not tied in the middle
24:34just when they pull it up
24:36comes up upside down
24:38the crews are a lot less enthusiastic about
24:41pranking pots than the captains
24:43the crews end up doing a lot of extra work
24:46the captains get a big kick out of it
24:48and talk about it on the radio
24:49we've got to mess around and fix all the
24:52good day to you
24:54with a sabotaged pot waiting for Captain Phil at the bottom
25:01and his own tanks topped off with 300 pounds of Cornelia Marie Crab
25:05Blake heads to Accutan to offload
25:08and his worn out crew finally get some rest
25:12231 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor
25:17the sun rises
25:19a time band and his fish through the night
25:21on a lousy string of pots
25:23a frustrated Captain Jonathan Hillstrand
25:25greets the day with more than a touch of sarcasm
25:30a lot of beautiful day in the Bering Sea
25:32look at it
25:33ooh
25:35ow
25:36eight crab per pot
25:38will never fill the boat
25:40yeah it's kind of frustrating here
25:42not too many crab we're finding here
25:44we found some crab farther to the east
25:46but we're pretty far away from there
25:49we were hoping to see some real good numbers here
25:52but so far we haven't
25:53Jonathan orders the men to pull all the pots
25:57while the pots are being stacked on deck
25:59the captain decides it's time for a radical move
26:02we're boldly going where no man has gone before
26:05we're going way up in these hills
26:07way up north of everybody
26:09like the other crab hunting captains
26:11Jonathan has spent 20 years studying crab migration patterns
26:15it seems to be this year the crab haven't moved yet
26:17they're not separating from the females
26:19so we are going to find them
26:21find the edge
26:22that edge where the separation is
26:24and then
26:25usually get pot full of crabs
26:27we've been through our gear once
26:29and we're not going to
26:31fold speed numbers
26:33and we don't want to do that again
26:34I'd rather go up here
26:36as the time bandit heads far north
26:41in search of their pots of red gold
26:43the crew must chain down the stack
26:46to keep it from shifting
26:56this is the most dangerous job on a crab boat
26:59just one misstep from becoming a grim statistic
27:02178 miles north of Dutch Harbor is the Northwestern
27:13they've continued to work through the night
27:15burning through their 300 pots
27:17and still there's no sleep in sight
27:20there's a lot of crowd right now
27:22got a nice good wind going
27:25we're almost done now
27:28we're on our way in
27:30we're close
27:31this trip's almost wrapped
27:33good
27:34yep
27:35and uh
27:36we're getting some lots of crab right now
27:38yeah
27:40come on go start crab now
27:41before the crew finally rests
27:46Sig is determined to fill the boat with crab
27:49in just hours
27:51he has to head in to make his offload deadline
27:54but until then
27:56he'll push the men
27:58and himself
27:59I slept for a half an hour
28:02it took my cousin a half an hour to wake me up
28:04so in all in all I got an hour of sleep
28:06wow
28:17wow
28:18whoa
28:19whoa
28:29this gives the meeting grind a whole different meaning
28:31we're going to wind a whole different meaning
28:54fishing continues into the night
28:56but Sig will have to quit soon
28:58to make his appointment with the processor
29:04we keep coming over the rail stuffed up like this
29:06keepers
29:07we'll be out here in seven or eight more pots
29:12we got two pots left
29:15and that tank is right there
29:17the table is full
29:19the hopper is full
29:20the hopper is full
29:22that hopper is going to be stuffed
29:25we're just going to have to slowly trickle them in
29:27to get them all in
29:29I don't know when the last time they filled this boat
29:32the king crab was
29:34I know it was before my time
29:36I spent over 18 years
29:38it's pretty cool too
29:40with a full boat of king
29:42you're looking at over half
29:43probably half a million dollars
29:45you know one load one whack
29:47we got to get going fast to make this first delivery day
29:51we should have just enough time to get in
29:53if the weather doesn't screw up our plans
30:02both the holds and the crew have hit their limits
30:05and SIG finally relents
30:08allowing the crew to take a well deserved break
30:14after a 24 hour trip
30:16the Northwestern arrives at the processing plant to unload
30:19it's about 3.30 a.m.
30:21we're just arriving at Trident Seafoods in Akatan
30:24they're going to take us right away
30:26so that worked out really slick
30:28SIG's timing is perfect
30:30there's no wait to dock
30:32everybody slept on the way in
30:33slept about 20 hours straight
30:35so
30:37everybody's got bed sores
30:39we're ready to go
30:40we needed it though
30:41we had it coming
30:42the hatch covers are removed
30:43to reveal nearly a hundred tons of live king crab
30:46the most the Northwestern has ever caught on a single trip
30:50I haven't seen this much king crab ever before
30:53in one spot in one boat
30:55just nice to see that
30:58makes me happy
31:00happy SIG good
31:01we like happy city
31:08the holds are finally empty
31:10and SIG heads to the office to sign off
31:12and get the final total
31:14thank you dear
31:18appreciate it
31:20off to see the wizard
31:22it's 194.5 is what we got
31:24I would have said 185.86
31:28so I'm real happy with that
31:31both captain and crew are anxious to get back to the fishing grounds and finish the season
31:37it's just after midnight we'll grab a little splash of fuel
31:41and then we'll just head out right away
31:44I love Akatan but there's no reason to stay
31:46the wizard is leaving Dutch Harbor after an unscheduled return to port
31:57on a crab boat the risk of injury is always high
32:00when engineer Lenny Lekanoff nearly severed his little finger
32:03Captain Keith Colburn returned to port to seek medical help
32:07the finger was saved but required 20 stitches
32:10swab it clean it
32:12iodine and sterilized water
32:15twice a day let it breathe dry a little then cover it again
32:18until the finger heals
32:22Keith will be a man down
32:24right now Lenny's just going to kind of help out as much as he can
32:28you know obviously take care of the engine room
32:30he might cook a little bit for us
32:32and we're just going to monitor the finger and see how it looks
32:35you know we're changing the dressing a couple times a day
32:3727 miles to the east of the Northwestern
32:41is the 128 foot Cornelia Marie
32:43the propeller repair gave these pots a long soak
32:49Captain Phil needs them to be stuffed with crab
32:52they're pulling up 30 to 40 keepers but it's not enough
32:56I got to keep us on a roll you know
32:59and the crab are gone around here even though we're catching some
33:03right now that's because the pots have been soaking a while
33:13the first pot was pretty good and the second one I don't know
33:18one didn't have much in it at all so
33:20still waiting to see how the string pans out
33:28on the third pot the crew gets a surprise
33:32is he on the third line?
33:36we left the bridle on the front side of the pot
33:38so when the pot gets launched the line is on the other side
33:41they didn't have a chance to get unwrapped so
33:44we come up a little bit like that
33:48go down, go down
34:01is that somebody being funny?
34:03that is, this isn't our bait setup
34:06somebody is messing with us
34:07the Cornelia Marie has hauled up Blake's prank pot
34:13that's kind of a weak payback
34:16all I got to say is Maverick is weak
34:19oh is that the Maverick being cute?
34:22it could be the Maverick
34:24god no wonder he's a bush league skipper
34:28Phil has little time or patience for Blake's prank
34:31he's still a long way from his quota
34:33and to get back in the game
34:34he's got to reposition all his pots
34:37and the weather is getting worse by the minute
34:40I've seen some huge waves
34:43when it gets a little snotty out up here
34:46it really gets snotty
34:48so we're going to rustle up a couple hundred thousand pounds quickly
34:53231 miles to the northeast of Dutch Harbor
34:56by daylight the far west leader is still heading into heavy seas
35:00the crab count is still low
35:04the Bering sea still full of surprises
35:08watch out, watch out
35:10watch out
35:14watch out
35:19you alright John?
35:21you alright?
35:23a rogue wave
35:25it's just bigger and a lot more force than what you're seeing
35:28I mean these are 8 foot, 10 foot
35:33that thing must have been 20
35:35cause it hit over the top of the wheelhouse
35:37despite the conditions and his earlier accident
35:40Ricky is operating the crane
35:42what sucks about operating a crane is
35:45you can hurt somebody so quick, so easy, you know
35:48very easy to make mistakes on the crane
35:51just trying to get used to it
35:53figure it out
35:55come on Ricky
35:57I caught him a long time ago
36:03he just forgets easily
36:05grab that pot
36:07with Ricky on the hydros
36:10history seems destined to repeat itself
36:12on what?
36:24get this out of that line
36:26and all the whole crane lines up
36:29Ricky backlash and he busted the uh...
36:32spectra, the line, look at it up there
36:34unbelievable
36:36for Greg, this is the last straw
36:41in a rage, he calls another captain to vent
36:44they up my crane line
36:46I don't even know if I got a spare
36:48Ricky
36:50he has no business on the hydraulics
36:52every time he does something gets up
36:54and now he just up the whole winch and crane and everything
36:57first pot he ran the hydraulics for the other day
37:00he didn't even put the dogs on
37:02stood the pot straight up
37:04and smashed the whole table full of crap
37:06there was to pay attention
37:08and the winch was going
37:10and it wrapped him back
37:12and overlapped or something
37:14I'm not sure what happened
37:16there's no time to stop for a repair
37:18so the heavy pots are wrangled by hand
37:20once the deck is secure
37:29the deckhands try to repair the crane line
37:36hey, Ricky, you ready?
37:38crane cable that we have on our crane is spectra
37:41it's stronger than cable itself
37:43the reason we put it on the crane
37:45is because it's lightweight
37:47it's easy to handle
37:48it's easy for the guy running the stack
37:49to handle
37:51but if it chafes
37:53if it rubs on something
37:55it gets a weakened spot
37:57then it can break
37:59that was over a $500 mistake right there
38:02on a crab boat
38:04the quarters are much too close
38:06to hold a grudge
38:08no comment
38:10I apologize
38:12things it wasn't his fault
38:14of course it was my fault
38:16they'll blame it on somebody
38:18I'm so so sorry
38:20you should be
38:21take it easy next time chainsaw
38:25stay at the rail
38:27all's forgiven for now
38:29but the far west leader still needs to find some crab
38:32and fast
38:38SIG's fishing strategy is paying off
38:39as the northwestern climbs atop the crab count
38:49236 miles to the north northeast of Dutch Harbor
38:52the time bandit is steaming north in search of better fishing
38:55and finds itself in the middle of freezing temperatures and rough seas
38:58the time bandit encounters the trailblazer
39:12the deckhands are astounded to see a crew member chaining the pots in 30 foot seas
39:16looks pretty dangerous when they start driving
39:20no you don't look like he's in a very good position
39:23he's all the way down on the rail down by the water
39:25that ain't good raging
39:32when their shift is over
39:34the deckhands return to the cabin
39:36but captain Jonathan keeps his eyes
39:38on the vulnerable man on the trailblazer
39:40the boat is rolling so much
39:46the man can touch the frigid sea below him
39:54then
39:56he disappears
39:57corri knows
39:58man the rope
40:12oh my dammit
40:15exciting
40:18hey
40:20get the life ring
40:22and get on the boards
40:24The time bandit is in the best position for a rescue, but they have only minutes before
40:35the fisherman loses consciousness and drowns.
40:40Jonathan struggles to get the time bandit close enough for his men to throw a life ring
40:44to the drowning man.
40:45The trailblazer circles back around to assist as the time bandit crew attempts to haul
41:10the fishermen out of the water.
41:17Trailblazer, take the gun.
41:20Trailblazer, we got him, we got him, he's on board, we got him, stand by.
41:26How's he done?
41:27He's done.
41:28He's in shock, I'm pretty sure that he's conscious and talking.
41:33Right on, we got you, bud.
41:36There we are, buddy.
41:43Once you get that off, we'll get you here in the warm galley.
41:45Oh my God.
41:46Get him a warm blanket, Russ, or Neil.
41:49You guys saved my life.
41:51Thank you for being there.
41:52Oh, it couldn't have been any better.

42:01Oh, I'm just kidding.
42:03Right on right now.
42:04Josh is not out of danger yet.
42:08Hypothermia has numbed his limbs.
42:10He needs to warm up or he could still die.
42:13You got it.
42:14It's so cool though.
42:15Yep.
42:16It's so cool.
42:17Not bad.
42:18You don't want to warm up too quick though, buddy.
42:19Let's put him in on this bed, you guys.
42:21He doesn't need it for now.
42:23Okay.
42:24You got it.
42:25Slowly warm up.
42:26Yeah, we're going to slowly warm up.
42:27Russell, you guys get that suit off, Russell.
42:29I'm going to go upstairs and go.
42:31Are you okay?
42:32Are you okay?
42:33Are you okay?
42:34Are you okay?
42:35I'm going to lie, man.
42:36I'm going to live.
42:37Holy .
42:38That was scary.
42:39What happened?
42:40How did you fall in?
42:41Oh, I was chaining up the stack.
42:42I just lost it.
42:43It was cold and I just...
42:44Did that lie?
42:45I get tied off, man.
42:46Oh.

42:50Yeah, it was icy.
42:51I just lost the grip.
42:52It was icy out.
42:53Oh, I caught the chain in like a cabin second.
42:54Oh, so it looks over there.
42:55Oh, like a whole paper towels or...
42:56Yep.
42:57Yep.
42:58Or even if it's a dry towel, it'd be great.

44:01He's back.
44:02Now he just said it just like that fast.
44:04Unbelievable.
