00:00In Lebanon, Hezbollah issued a call for the evacuation of 25 settlements in northern occupied
00:18Palestine, sites of deployment and positioning for Israeli military forces.
00:23In Uruguay, everything is ready for the general elections, where 2.7 million people will elect
00:29the president who will govern them for the next 5 years.
00:35And in Colombia, in the midst of COP 16, organizations from the countries that share the Amazon
00:40presented a new group to advocate for biodiversity, climate change and defend their territory.
00:50Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:54Cuba.
00:55Let's begin with the news.
01:15In Lebanon, Hezbollah issued a call for the evacuation of 25 settlements in northern occupied
01:20Palestine, sites of deployment and positioning for Israeli military forces.
01:24The audio-visual warning was addressed to the Israeli settlers still present in these
01:29settlements who were ordered to leave these localities immediately.
01:33This tactic, according to several local analysts, marks a new escalation between Lebanon and
01:37Israel in addition to the impressive increase in attacks against the occupied territory.
01:41Moreover, in the last 24 hours, the Lebanese resistance has carried out 48 raids, launching
01:46airstrikes against several military installations and concentrations of soldiers.
01:55And in Iran, in the city of Mashhad, citizens gathered to show their support for Palestinians
01:59and Lebanon.
02:00The Israeli follows Israel's recent military strikes on several Iranian military facilities.
02:05Despite the significant nature of the strikes, there were no reports of mass civilian casualties
02:09or damage to the Erbato army's economic infrastructure, which may provide a route for de-escalation.
02:15In Mashhad, only scores the deep-seated support for Palestinian and Lebanese causes within
02:20Iran's citizens, as well as the country's resolve to stand by its allies in the face
02:25of escalating hostilities.
02:32And in Sudan, the United Nations has demanded that the government allow access to its personnel
02:37to address the food crisis affecting the Sudanese people.
02:40According to the United Nations Agency for Refugees and Children's Fund, Sudan's constraints
02:46are harboring international organizations from being able to deliver supplies and protection
02:51to the country's most vulnerable communities.
02:53The agency warned that at least 14 regions in Sudan are on the brink of famine, while
02:58in North Darfur, famine conditions already exist.
03:02International agencies estimate that 3.7 million children under the age of five will suffer
03:07from severe acute malnutrition by the end of 2024, who need urgent treatment to safeguard
03:12their lives.
03:18And in Portugal, thousands of protesters filled the streets of Lisbon to demonstrate against
03:22police violence and racism.
03:25The event follows a week of unrest triggered by the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old man
03:29from Cape Verde by Portuguese police.
03:31The march, which took place on the city's central avenue at the Libertade, was marked
03:36by peaceful but determined protests.
03:39Demonstrators chanted slogans such as No Peace Without Justice and Police Violence Colonial
03:44Heritage, and carried placards with messages including racism kills and Black Lives Matter.
03:50The incident has sparked widespread outrage and allegations of police brutality, particularly
03:55in neighborhoods with large immigrant communities.
03:59A young man has died.
04:04He left behind a family.
04:06Now we are asking for justice, justice to see what will happen from now on for the future
04:10in relation to what has just happened.
04:13This must be a lesson.
04:14It's enough of letting these kinds of acts be carried out by the police.
04:22There is a history of police violence in Portugal.
04:25The black population is 21 times more likely to be fatally injured by the police than the
04:30rest of the population.
04:32We have to face up to this reality.
04:35It's not the fault of the police officers.
04:37It's the fault of the police model.

05:15Welcome back.
05:16In Uruguay, polling stations opened at 8 a.m. local time on Sunday for more than 2.7 million
05:20eligible voters to elect the president and renew the parliament in addition to signing
05:24on two controversial referendums.
05:26The 7,225 voting centers set up across the country will be open until 7 p.m., time for
05:33citizens to exercise their right to vote, which is mandatory in Uruguay.
05:37Electoral authorities informed that the voting hours could be extended in those centers that
05:42needed it.
05:43According to the national press, the country is clearly divided between maintaining the
05:46ruling party or returning to a leftist government.
05:49Republicans will also vote this day for two referendums, one on night raids and the other
05:55for the social security reform.
06:02And Uruguay is voting this Sunday, October 27th, on two plebiscites to reform the constitution,
06:07one on social security and the other on the authorization of nighttime raids, which will
06:11be submitted to a vote at the same time the presidential and legislative elections are
06:15held.
06:16The pension reform proposal seeks to amend Article 67 of the national constitution in
06:26order to prohibit individual saving systems for retirement purposes, in addition to setting
06:31the minimum retirement age at 60 years and establishing that pensions may not be less
06:36than the national minimum wage.
06:44The amendments proposed by this initiative involve eliminating the administrators of
06:49pension savings funds, known as FAPS, private agents of the mixed social security system
06:55in force since 1996, and granting the state the monopoly of social security.
07:01They also imply leaving without effect the retirement reform law of 2023, which raised
07:07the minimum retirement age to 65 years.
07:17The constitutional reform bill is being promoted by labor unions, various social organizations,
07:24and some sectors of the leftist broad front party, the main opposition force, including
07:29the Communist Party and the Socialist Party.
07:36The other issue to be submitted to a plebiscite is insecurity, a matter of concern for Uruguayans
07:43amid an increase in violence and drug trafficking.
07:46The plebiscite on security proposed by parliamentarians of the ruling coalition seeks to enable nighttime
07:52raids on homes, currently prohibited by the constitution, Article 11 of which guarantees
07:58the inviolability of the home and allows entry only during the day with a court order.
08:09This security initiative has generated rejection among various sectors who have warned about
08:15the implications that this measure would have on the protection of citizens' rights.
08:20One of them is the broad front, which considers that this proposal is not the best way to
08:25solve the serious security problems facing the country and has therefore decided not
08:30to support it.
08:34Uruguay's electoral court announced that polling stations will open from 8 a.m. to
08:417.30 p.m., where millions of Uruguayans will elect their next president, vice president,
08:48and other public officials who will hold office for five years.
08:51The counting of the votes will begin at the close of polling day.
08:59The mothers and fathers of the 43 Ayotzinapa students have requested a direct meeting with
09:03the president of Mexico, Clarence James Bond, 121 months after the disappearance of their
09:09children.
09:10At the end of a march held this Saturday in the capital of the country, the mothers and
09:13fathers of the students expressed their concern and asked to return to meetings with federal
09:18authorities.
09:19They ratified that they want to continue with the investigations and would not allow
09:22the army to obstruct them.
09:23Isidoro Vicario, lawyer for the families, remarked that as long as there is no conclusive
09:28and scientific proof of the whereabouts of the students, they will continue to demand
09:32that they be found alive.
09:39And after the BRICS summit, Venezuela prepares to continue with bilateral cooperation with
09:43emerging countries beyond the refugio of Brazil to join the BRICS, facts that have generated
09:48multiple reactions, details in the final report with Madeline Garcia.
09:54These silos are considered one of the largest in Latin America and are located in Venezuela.
10:00It is the agri-food company's deal.
10:02The private sector closed ranks with the Venezuelan government to overcome the illegal sanctions
10:08of the United States and move forward.
10:11The government called on us to produce more than oil because that is where we were hit
10:16the hardest by the sanctions and we had to get ahead in another way and what is the way
10:21we had to get ahead, agriculture.
10:27And getting ahead is the north.
10:30Brazil's impediment for the country to join the BRICS does not stop growth and now more
10:34than ever there are plenty of alternatives.
10:37The reactions of businessmen like Carla were not long in coming.
10:42What to do now?
10:45We have to establish commercial alliances with Venezuela's allied countries, but not
10:50only to buy and sell, but to integrate them in a win-win situation to establish external
10:56structures to the swift with other currency possibilities to trade nationally and internationally.
11:05The popular sectors were surprised by President Lula da Silva's action, but they are clear
11:10that the country has moved forward with blockades and obstacles and nothing will stop it.
11:19That is a tremendous betrayal because we have always seen that Venezuela has defended Brazil
11:25because we feel them as brothers and that they are going to do this tremendous thing
11:29to us.
11:30But it does not matter, God is with us, who has fought for Venezuela is God and will continue
11:35fighting for Venezuela.
11:37Let us give glory to God for that you know why, because we are standing up for ourselves,
11:42for our efforts.
11:45The President of the National Assembly described Brazil's position as a shame.
11:55But it is offensive, it is rude and it is a drag position to have maintained an attitude
12:01that does not match at all with the climate, nor with the objectives, nor with the principles
12:07of this meeting of the BRICS, where President Maduro took a position that is in line with
12:12the principle for which the BRICS was founded, the creation of another pole, which is a pole
12:19based on freedom, independence, exchange, solidarity and the growth of new powers.
12:26Venezuela will continue to move forward.
12:35Brazilian deputies coincide in condemning President Lula's action, aligned with former
12:40Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
12:47What Lula has done is very simple, he has been imprisoned, he has entered into the same
12:52discourse as Bolsonaro.
13:01It is unusual to see that he shares this policy of imperialism and isolationism.
13:07He strengthens the Venezuelan ultra-right wing, that is what one suddenly finds strange.
13:21This security initiative has generated rejection among various sectors, who have warned about
13:27the implications that this measure would have on the protection of citizens' rights.
13:34This BRICS summit for Venezuela was an absolute and resounding success, why?
13:39Because nothing more and nothing less than Putin confronted Lula telling him that the
13:44President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is called Nicolas Maduro.
13:49Putin confronted Lula saying that he does not agree with the decisions that are being
13:53taken in relation to Venezuela.
13:59Brazil's blackmail, which asked Venezuela to show the minutes of the last presidential
14:06elections of July 28, which were also filed with the Supreme Court of Justice, was buried
14:13at the BRICS summit.
14:14In November, there will be a meeting of the mixed commission between Russia and Venezuela
14:19to continue advancing cooperation.
14:49Welcome back.
15:02In Colombia, in the midst of COP-16, organizations from countries that share the Amazon presented
15:07a new group to advocate for biodiversity, climate change, and defend their territory.
15:12In the middle of a space known as Mambadero, which is a traditional conversation with indigenous
15:18and Amazonian grandparents from other peoples of the world, a new coalition called G9 was
15:23born with the firm determination to defend indigenous peoples, their territories, and
15:28their rights.
15:29The new group is made up of indigenous peoples from Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Suriname,
15:34Guyana, and Venezuela, Brazil, and Peru.
15:41In the face of the threats we face—exploitation of natural resources, deforestation, exploitation
15:51of hydrocarbons, mining, organized crime, climate variability, invasion, expansion of
16:02the agricultural frontier, and dispossession of our land—we reaffirm our ancestral commitment
16:07to be a strategic partner in the protection and conservation of biodiversity and life.
16:16The environmental crisis is cured from the territories which are the best preservers.
16:20Therefore, the demarcation of our land is a fundamental pillar in the fight against
16:25the climatic crisis.
16:26Otherwise, we will not have peace with nature.
16:43Nicaragua celebrated a traditional parade of the Aguizotes, a festivity that revives
16:48the country's popular myths and legends.
16:51Let's see.
16:56During the day, Menembo in the Department of Messiah is the scene of the colorful parade
17:07of the children's Aguizotes, in which dozens of children, accompanied by their parents,
17:12participated in this tradition that shows Nicaraguan myths and legends that continue
17:18in the new generations.
17:25I am very happy thanks to the Aguizotes.
17:34Here I celebrate all the legends of Messiah, like the Taconuda and the Carreta.
17:42I am participating in the traditions of Messiah since Messiah is multi-ethnic and multicultural.
17:49It is great to transmit the customs and traditions that Messiah has, since Messiah has an endless
17:55number of them.
18:00It is the first time that my daughter participates in these events of the Aguizotes.
18:05We are proud and happy of Messiah and its traditions.
18:08We will continue with these traditions, instilling in her the traditions of Messiah.
18:24At nightfall, thousands of young people and adults walked more than four kilometers of
18:31this folkloric city, wearing costumes representing iconic characters of Nicaraguan colorful stories.
18:44Being the scarecrow is a great joy for me.
18:58Year after year I have done this.
19:03I like very much to be here dancing and enjoying everything.
19:11This tradition has been going on for about 50 years, and we have been rescuing it for
19:15about seven years.
19:17We are thankful to the good government we have, because without this government this
19:21would have been lost.
19:27The government of Nicaragua supports these popular festivities as part of its commitment
19:32to preserve and promote the country's cultural richness.
19:36We are here with these myths and legends of fear with the famous Aguizotes of Messiah,
19:44which unite all the people of Messiah.
19:46Of all generations, from children to adults, all our government, our mayor's office, we
19:52are all accompanying all the people of Messiah, as it corresponds to our good government together
19:57with the people of Messiah, bringing forward the culture and tradition, because art, culture
20:03and tradition is also part of the restitution of rights, but also of the values that we
20:08have been promoting from our government.
20:27In addition to the cultural richness, this festivity boosts tourism and local commerce.
