00:00Some residents of Masbate were shocked when they received an emergency alert that was supposed to be for calamity, but the content was just a campaign for some candidates.
00:11Comelec also confirmed it, especially that it is against the law.
00:15Jonathan Anda was shocked.
00:20Christian and his colleagues were shocked when they received this emergency alert on April 3 in Masbate City.
00:27They thought that there was already a calamity.
00:30We were shocked for a while because it was just after the earthquake in Thailand and Myanmar.
00:37The governor, vice governor, congresswoman, and mayor were just campaigning.
00:45He posted it on social media for public awareness.
00:48Some people doubted that they might have edited the screenshots.
00:52When they looked at the emergency alert history, there were alerts from the campaign.
00:57Tomorrow, Christian will formally complain to Comelec so that those who use the emergency alert system in the campaign can be questioned and answered.
01:06My faith in myself is very high because it is very risky.
01:09For me, one of the things that really marked me last 2022 is that you shouldn't close when you are already exposed.
01:18This is the time for you to really claim that you know what is right.
01:22I know that what I'm fighting for is right.
01:25Comelec condemned the use of the message alert and reported it to the NTC or National Telecommunications Commission and DICT or Department of Information and Communications Technology.
01:35That is a violation, not of the Comelec law or election law, but a violation of other laws, especially our telecommunication law.
01:42However, it's easy to deny because they will say that their opponents are doing it.
01:50JMA Integrated News is trying to get hold of four candidates who are campaigning for the so-called emergency alert.
01:56The NDRRMC did not like it.
01:58They are investigating how the emergency alert was broadcast when they don't have a permit.
02:04It's not from the NDRRMC and it's not from our telcos.
02:10Hopefully, the NTC can help us to trace who did it and how it was done.
02:15There are many violations of the law. First of all, it's an impersonation.
02:22Especially, it should be given by the authorities.
02:27The NDRRMC is asking the NDRRMC not to involve the emergency alert system in its campaign because the public's safety is at stake.
02:36When the time has come for our countrymen to listen, they might think that it's a fake news that they are receiving.
02:46We are talking about life.
02:49The NTC and DICT have not yet issued an official statement.
