00:00On the other hand, the government sees it as a strategic opportunity for the country to raise the tariff imposed by the United States.
00:10In fact, Malacanang was invited by manufacturers to go to the Philippines, which is one of the lowest tariffs in Southeast Asia.
00:19Mela Lesmora is in the center of the news.
00:22Malacanang has reconciled the concerns of our countrymen following the new tariff imposed by the United States to the products of more than 100 of its trading partners, including the Philippines.
00:38According to Palas Press Officer Luce Claire Castro, it is expected that it will not affect us too much, especially compared to other countries that have a smaller percentage imposed in the Philippines.
00:52The Department of Trade and Industry is also positive about this and believes that it will still provide strategic opportunities for the country.
01:01As DTI said, the impact will be minimal.
01:06We also believe in a good relationship, the U.S.-Philippine alliance, so the 17% tariff can be studied by the government and the administration of the U.S.
01:22So we will accept this, but whatever the impact, of course, we should comply with what is right.
01:32House Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda is also an economist who believes that there are still opportunities for this.
01:42Each country has its own trade policy and was surprised because the tariff imposed in the Philippines is low compared to our neighboring countries, so the government can use this for our welfare.
01:57Mela Lesmora for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
