00:00Every now and then, the agriculture department takes initiatives to maintain or lower the prices of food in the country
00:07like rice, pork, and garlic.
00:10Vel Custodio in the center of the news.
00:15The Department of Agriculture plans to make RFA Rice Retailers accredited by the President
00:20to speed up the release of rice stocks by the National Food Authority.
00:24If they have their own place, they have their own people, they have their own network.
00:29So, that's it. Actually, that's what's being discussed.
00:33To revive that system so that we can ensure that they are accredited.
00:40It is expected that the production of local rice will increase this year.
00:44More than 20 million metric tons of local rice production were recorded in the first quarter of this year.
00:51While 50% of the compliance level of 45 pesos maximum suggests that the retail price of imported rice
00:57started on Monday.
00:59Aside from rice, there are new projects that the Department of Agriculture is working on
01:04to continue lowering the prices of pork.
01:07Today, the pilot testing of Food Terminal Incorporated and the leading pork producer, Sipi Food,
01:13for the discount on the head of pork.
01:16Sipi will deliver directly the pork at a discounted price to the slaughterhouse.
01:25Then, the travelers will deliver their pork to the slaughterhouse.
01:31They will get the pork. Initially, the target is 100 heads.
01:36The pilot testing will be conducted in the markets in Metro Manila, particularly in Malabon,
01:41where the head price will be only P290 from the directive of the DA to P300.
01:48P240 will be the discounted price for pork and P260 for pork belly.
01:54Aside from this, the DA also plans to place a card that will serve as a tracker from the producer to the retailer of pork.
02:02The card is to know how much pork, who is the producer, how much to get.
02:09This is also a way to know where there are problems with compliance with MSRP.
02:14For now, the compliance level of pork is 88% with the farm gate price of P230,
02:21while the compliance level of MSRP is 39%.
02:24The DA will be strict with those who are against the price of pork.
02:28Even if it is not followed, it is possible to have a hearing,
02:34and secondly, it is also possible that the shipping permit,
02:40if it is proven that there is a violation in any legal process,
02:48the shipping permit can be reimbursed.
02:52Meanwhile, according to the DA, the price of imported garlic will start to drop to P120
02:59from the previous P160 per kilo.
03:02The DA, Secretary Francisco Tula Rell Jr., said that as much as possible,
03:07he does not want to place MSRP on garlic if it can lower its price.
03:12The DA will also strengthen the research and development to increase the local garlic production.
03:18Another targeted project of the government is to correct the weighting and categorization of eggs.
03:23This is to avoid buying egg sizes that do not match its label.
03:29Vel Custodio for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
