00:00In endurance sports, many were impressed by Capi City, Iloilo native Jennifer Uy,
00:06who successfully completed the Ultraman Florida,
00:09one of the most challenging endurance races in the world.
00:12This Women's Month, let's revisit the remarkable achievement of the Filipino endurance athlete
00:17in this report by teammate Justin Ilano.
00:23Filipino endurance athlete Jennifer Uy is among the finishers of the Ultraman Florida,
00:28a multi-stage event held over for three days.
00:32Considered one of the most challenging and physically demanding endurance races,
00:36not all participants are able to complete the event.
00:39That's why the accomplishment of the 37-year-old Ilonga is truly impressive.
00:44She is one of the only two women to finish the entire course
00:47and the only Filipino to cross the finish line in this year's competition.
00:51She really sunk in.
00:53All I know is that I'm really happy that I was able to cross the finish line.
00:59Actually, you know, after I crossed the finish line,
01:02my husband said,
01:03You're really lucky.
01:05He said,
01:06Imagine, your strength is the run and then this is what happened to you.
01:11What will people say?
01:13It's good that you finished.
01:15Then I said,
01:17Yes, it's really,
01:20when I think about it,
01:23it's like mind over matter.
01:26Your legs are giving up, you're cramping.
01:30But no, no, I can do this.
01:33Aside from intense exhaustion,
01:35Jennifer admitted that the lack of sleep was an added challenge that made the race even more difficult.
01:41I was awake for 48 hours when I did day three.
01:44I really couldn't sleep.
01:46So I didn't experience it before.
01:49And then I already took melatonin on day two and some Benadryl to help me sleep.
01:56But nothing, I was really awake.
01:59Despite the hardships she endured,
02:01the sweetness of victory was undeniable
02:03when she managed to finish the Ultraman Florida with just two minutes remaining before the cutoff period.
02:09To be honest, when I was there with the other athletes,
02:12they're Americans, they're Europeans, they're big, they're men.
02:16Then it's like, wow, they're so fit.
02:18Then I feel like I'm getting smaller.
02:20But it doesn't matter because we're all finishers at the end of the day.
02:27And I made a contribution, I made history in Ultraman Florida.
02:34So I think I made an impact this year.
02:41I feel like they will never forget that small Filipina woman
02:45who almost didn't make it but made it because she didn't quit.
02:51After conquering Ultraman Florida,
02:53Jennifer's next goal is the Ultraman World Championships in Hawaii this November,
02:57an exclusive event open only to finishers.
03:01Justine Ilano from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
