00:00Welcome everyone, I am delighted to see you for a new edition of the major media morning news. Here are the headlines.
00:24In Morocco, suspension of classes this Monday in public and private schools in the provinces of the Tangier region, led by Hossein Mah, because of the storms.
00:37Flooding in Argentina, at least 16 people died and several dozen were taken and disappeared. In Australia, hundreds of thousands of homes are deprived of electricity after the storm Alfred.
00:56After the suspension of humanitarian aid, Israel ceases to provide electricity to Gaza before new negotiations on the truce with Hamas in Palestine.
01:10In Morocco, suspension of classes this Monday in public and private schools in the provinces of the Tangier region, led by Hossein Mah.
01:25Hossein Mah, a decision that follows a weather alert of level of orange vigilance, heavy snowfall, heavy rain, stormy and strong gusts of wind are expected today in several provinces of the kingdom.
01:40A note from the provincial vigilance cell specifies that the risk management in these weather conditions requires maximum vigilance and preventive measures to ensure the safety of students and teachers.
01:55Classes in these provinces of the north of the kingdom will resume normally on Tuesday.
02:01The Ghana Depression is currently striking Morocco, marked by strong storms and violent winds. How to explain this storm? What is its origin?
02:23I invite you to listen to the explanation of Saïd Error, professor of climatology at the Hassan II University in Casablanca.
02:31The origin of this storm is cold gusts coming from the North Atlantic through Western Europe.
02:42This depression, which is deep in Portugal, brings us this cold earth, which penetrates directly from the north to the interior of the country, bringing the cold and humidity with it, but also condensing the local Moroccan humidity, which has a very rich atmosphere.
03:03On the other hand, in the mountains, it creates snowfalls that transform this water vapor directly into snow, at the level of the Atlas, but also in the regions of the east and southeast of Morocco.
03:22But this depression itself is the consequence of global weather conditions. It should be remembered that the phase of drought that we experienced was linked to the pacific settlement of the Niño phenomenon.
03:43It was the Niño, it cleared up, it was replaced not by a normal situation, but by an adverse situation, which is the Niña. The Niña weakly feeds the Azores anticyclone and for this reason it is weakened and leaves room for the depression and also for the polar jet that reaches Morocco and gives us this.
04:07And if these rains arrive late to be able to benefit from the agricultural campaign, these rainfall are beneficial for water reserves in Morocco. According to the data published on Thursday by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the water supply of the dams continues to improve, showing a filling rate of 28% against 25.22% in the same period, the previous year.
04:31These water supplies contribute to support the necessary water resources, to the supply of drinking water and irrigation. More details with this region.
04:43The dam reserves are improving after the last rains on March 7. The dams of Morocco have seen a notable increase in their reserves compared to the same period of the previous year. According to the data published on Thursday by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the water reserves in the dams rose to 4.715.75 million cubic meters on February 11, 2025, an increase of 649.83 million cubic meters.
05:14The filling rate of the dams has thus progressed to 28% against 25.22% at the same time in 2024. Also, and for the first time in several years, drinking water has taken the lead on irrigation, including the distribution of water resources in Morocco.
05:29In 2023-2024, 54% of the water volume from the dams was allocated to human consumption, against 46% for irrigation. Based on this, the last rains mainly benefited Bourgrug with 0.40%, Tchensift 0.34%, Omarbia 0.15% and Guirzisgris 0.05%.
05:54At the level of the dam, Ouad El Mahazine, considered as one of the essential water storage infrastructures at the level of the Loukos basin, the total volume of water resources available exceeded 462.8 million cubic meters, against 419 million cubic meters during the same period of last year.
06:12In Daraa Tafilat, the volume stored in the dam's reservoir Hassan El Dahil rose to 203 million cubic meters, a filling rate of 64.9% against about 26% last year.
06:24As for the Idriss I dam in Fasnknas, the total volume of reservoirs exceeded 290 million cubic meters, against 213 million cubic meters during the same period of last year. With the continuous improvement of the climatic conditions and the pursuit of rainfall, the dams of Morocco should record new increases in their reserves, thus strengthening the country's water security.
06:49In Argentina, at least 16 people have died and several dozen have disappeared in the port city of Bahia Blanca due to floods as violent as sudden, caused by a storm on Friday, according to the announcement made this Sunday by the authorities.
07:11President Javier Gembillé declared three days of national mourning. The floods caused about 370 million euros in damage.
07:22On the other side of the planet, in Australia, power providers are still trying to restore power in more than 200,000 homes and businesses in the east of the country.
07:34After the passage of the Alfred storm, which hit on Saturday, the figures rose to 310,000 and 16,000 respectively. In both states, the Alfred storm caused heavy rainfall in this region, inflating the rivers and triggering many alerts or floods.
08:05In the Middle East, Israel announced this Sunday that it will stop supplying electricity to Gaza on the eve of the new indirect negotiations planned with Qatar on the modalities of the pursuit of the dam with Hamas, which entered into force on January 19.
08:23The Minister of Energy, Eli Cohen, announced that he had signed the order to immediately stop supplying electricity to the Gaza Strip a week after the blockade of the humanitarian aid route in the occupied Palestinian territory.
08:38We will use all the tools at our disposal to bring all the hostages and ensure that Hamas is no longer in Gaza the day after the war, he added.
08:48Hamas has denounced an unacceptable blackmail, firmly condemning Israel's decision to cut off electricity in Gaza after depriving it of food, medicine and water, according to a statement by Ezzat al-Reshq, a member of the Palestinian Movement's political bureau.
09:05The only power line between Israel and Gaza supplies the main water supply plant in the territory, serving more than 600,000 people.
09:18The international news is marked by the fragile truce in Gaza. Hamas asks to negotiate the second phase of the truce agreement and evokes positive signals for the pursuit of the truce with Israel.
09:38At the same time, Israel announced the sending of a delegation to Qatar, one of the mediators, more precisely with Raja Engo.
09:50Negotiators of the Palestinian Movement met on Saturday with Egyptian mediators on the maintenance of the fragile truce in Gaza.
09:59The delegation stressed the need to respect all the terms of the agreement, to start negotiations directly for the second phase, to open the crossroads and to reintroduce the rescue equipment in the sector without restrictions or conditions.
10:15After this meeting, Hamas evoked positive signals for the unblocking of negotiations for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
10:24In this statement, Hamas stressed the need to force Israel's mediators to implement the agreement.
10:31It also assured that Hamas was ready to start the second phase of the truce in a way that meets the demands of the Palestinian people.
10:40Israel, for its part, announced the sending of a delegation on Monday to Qatar, one of the mediator countries with Egypt and the United States, in order to advance negotiations.
10:51The mediators are multiplying efforts to try to reduce the differences between Hamas and Israel.
10:58Israel wishes an extension of the first phase of the ceasefire until mid-April, with the return of the last hostages, before moving on to the second phase.
11:07Hamas, meanwhile, insists on staying in Gaza and demands the total withdrawal of the Israeli army, but also the end of the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
11:18The news is also in Syria, where the president, by a term Ahmad al-Shara, promised yesterday to prosecute those responsible for the bloodshed of civilians,
11:28of whom at least 973 were killed in the west of the country, according to an NGO, in a flurry of unprecedented violence since the fall of Bashar al-Assad,
11:39the UN, Washington and other capitals have condemned these killings, calling on the Syrian authorities to put an end to them.
11:46According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the total number of victims rose to 973, including women and children,
11:55evoking executions, summary executions and ethnic cleansing operations.
12:01The violence was triggered by a bloody attack on March 6 by supporters of the president, defeated against security forces in Jablé.
12:09The authorities then sent reinforcements to neighboring provinces of Latakia and Tartus to support security forces operations against pro-Assad.
12:20At least 481 members of the security forces and pro-Assad fighters also perished, according to the OSDH.
12:32The action of the Democratic Republic of Congo, faced with the fall of cobalt prices,
12:38has recently suspended for four months any export of this strategic ore,
12:44of which it is the world's leading producer of a potentially double-edged weapon.
12:50The unexpected measure could move the Democratic Republic of Congo away from potential investors,
12:57but also encourage ultra-dependent buyers of resources from the great Central African country to find alternatives.
13:04Keeping some specialists in mind, according to the American Institute for Geological Studies,
13:12the RDC provided in 2024 76% of the world's production of cobalt,
13:19essential ore for the manufacture of batteries and electric vehicles,
13:25whose demand has exploded since 2000.
13:28The Congolese government justified its decision by the necessary stabilization of the cobalt market
13:34in the face of the overabundance of supply on the international market,
13:38which in the last three years has divided the lowest prices by four for eight years.
13:46We go to Senegal, which hosted the 13th extraordinary session of the Ministers of the Organization for the Enhancement of the Gambia River.
13:57A meeting in Dakar to focus on the work on the completion of the hydraulic dam of Sambagaloo,
14:06launched in 2022 and which is struggling to leave the corresponding land in Dakar,
14:12with our correspondents Marie Madiop and Cheikh Endaou.
14:17At the request of the conference of the heads of state and government of the OMVG,
14:22we were told that the internal work of the hydraulic dam of Sambagaloo had been carried out.
14:27This extraordinary session is therefore an opportunity for these members to comment on the results of the investigation.
14:34The axes that emerge from this report are of course technical problems that needed to be addressed more,
14:42since the site is in the process of realization, which is realized at 31% on the physical side
14:49and almost also 32-33% on the financial side.
14:53But all this now requires a systematic review.
14:58There are responsibilities that are located on the part of the companies that were on site,
15:02in the management of the organizations, in the positions of the various stakeholders involved in the project.
15:08All this has been shown and it is on this basis that we will make the appropriate decisions.
15:13This hydraulic dam has a capacity of 128 MW and a potential irrigation of 90,000 hectares.
15:21The work will constitute one of the main sources of supply of the organization's interconnection line
15:28and the foundation for the enhancement of the Gambia River,
15:31hence the importance of restarting the work on new bases.
15:35There is a manifest will of all States to be able to overcome these obstacles
15:40and resume the work at Sambagaloo,
15:43to the extent that today, with the galloping demography,
15:47the needs that only the Croats have in terms of energy,
15:51and who speaks of energy speaks of transformed economy.
15:56If there is no energy, there is no economy.
15:58The most important thing is that Sambagaloo is also dedicated to the birth of SOGESART,
16:03which is the company that will pilot the issue of energy management and the dam,
16:08which is already underway.
16:11We are pleased to announce that the SOGESART headquarters will be installed in the Republic of Guinea.
16:17The heads of state have already decided on the distribution of the various positions between the states.
16:22This is a very big step forward and we are happy to say that in the coming months,
16:27the management company will be operational and the dam will be relaunched
16:32and that in the short term, God willing, we will achieve the results that we expect.
16:38The hydroelectric dam of Sambagaloo is funded at around €388 million by the Vinci Andrich Group,
16:46but the Senegalese government has taken care of the project.
16:52Back to Morocco.
16:54Although the month of Ramadan is an opportunity for food improvement,
17:00the holy month is especially marked by habits of consumption
17:04that are characterized by luxury and excess,
17:08which has nefarious effects on the health of young people.
17:13I suggest you learn more about it in this report by Youba Deraza.
17:16Younes Missouri, Soheil Jalil.
17:19Period of abstinence, moderation and social solidarity,
17:23the holy month of Ramadan encourages everyone to focus on the essentials
17:28and to detach themselves from the excesses of everyday life.
17:31Nevertheless, the month of fasting is often accompanied by a frenzy of spending and consumption
17:36with its corollary of food waste.
17:39These overconsumption trends are out of phase with the spirit and the principles of Ramadan
17:44are explained by social factors, commercial incitements
17:48and an unconscious desire for compensation after a day of deprivation.
17:56Fasting is especially a time of recovery and at the time of the break,
17:59the spiritual side of the fasting exercise disappears
18:02in favor of the ambivalence with tables set up like a wedding day.
18:06As surprising as it may seem,
18:09despite the surge in prices and the significant drop in purchasing power,
18:12the bad habits of overconsumption have not yet disappeared, they persist.
18:19What is regrettable is that this waste is not limited only to the frenzy of buying
18:24and the tons of food that ends up in the trash,
18:27but also to the excessive use of energy resources,
18:30which has incalculable economic and social consequences.
18:33Beyond the economic consequences,
18:35there is also a place to worry about the health impacts of bulimia and excessive consumption.
18:43Eating healthily and reasonably,
18:46this is one of the most important rules to follow during this month.
18:49It is important to take balanced meals,
18:51which include at least one food from each food group.
18:54It is also essential to remember the noble values of giving
18:57and sharing with the poorest in this sacred month.
19:03To stop overconsumption,
19:05it is essential to act to consecrate the values of sharing and solidarity.
19:09Sobriety, sharing and mutual assistance are the fundamental values of this sacred month,
19:14which should be preserved in the face of consumerist drifts.
19:17Ramadan is much more than a simple religious ritual,
19:20but a time for food rebalancing and spiritual renewal.
19:26Now it's time for the best of the guests of Mediain TV.
19:39What are your thoughts on the Moroccan woman's desire to emancipate herself?
19:45It is true that we felt a shudder.
19:48There was already a study by Deloitte two or three years ago,
19:51which brought this figure to 34%.
19:53And now we really feel this desire of this Moroccan woman
19:56to go towards her emancipation and her financial autonomy.
20:00And so it is in perfect harmony with what we are doing,
20:04with this roadmap that we want to launch.
20:07Because it's true, it's still a very high figure,
20:10but it really gives us a lot of heart
20:14and encourages us to go even further on our actions
20:17and to look for this woman in all regions of Morocco,
20:21whether in an urban or rural environment, as best we can.
20:26And to say that there is a will to be an actress of development in our country.
20:34In the speech of July 29, 2023,
20:38His Majesty the King, may God assist him,
20:41committed the government to undertake
20:44the rapid and qualitative implementation of the Moroccan offer
20:47in order to enhance the assets that our country has in the matter
20:52and to respond as best as possible to the projects carried out by global investors
20:55in this promising sector.
20:57Following this speech,
20:59the head of the government published a circular on March 11, 2024
21:03for the implementation of this Moroccan offer
21:05and to allow the development of the emerging line of green hydrogen in Morocco.
21:10So what is the Moroccan offer?
21:12It is an offer that is inciting,
21:14that is competitive and that is pragmatic.
21:16It meets the expectations of investors.
21:19The ambition is to make Morocco a central actor
21:23in the global energy transition.
21:25This green hydrogen will be a real tipping point for the Moroccan economy
21:30because it will allow it to diversify its revenues,
21:33to create jobs and added value
21:36and to achieve energy sovereignty.
21:41It is important, but it is ambiguous
21:44because it would mean that the role of women is limited to you and me.
21:49Our role is not limited to, let's say, domestic work.
21:54We bring money home, but it's not just that.
21:56I said that there are housewives, workers, farmers,
21:59all these women who bring money to make the house work.
22:04We will not recognize their domestic work
22:07because it is their work in the dominant ideology.
22:10And we will not recognize this material contribution
22:13against which there is an absolute reluctance.
22:18I can say that there have been achievements, advances.
22:22I live more in Morocco, so I can say that there are a lot of achievements.
22:28But there is still work to be done. The fight continues.
22:31Today, women are a bit autonomous,
22:34in the sense that they arrive anyway.
22:37Before, they did not arrive.
22:39They are always under decisions.
22:41That is to say, they are like children.
22:43They have no autonomy.
22:45They are always being led.
22:52But today, alhamdulillah,
22:54they still manage to raise their heads high
22:59and say, here I am.
23:01At the beginning, there is the work.
23:03So I said that Morocco has made a lot of progress.
23:07I accompanied Morocco with the new policy,
23:11with this change.
23:14With the Family Code, there are a lot of reforms.
23:17And we can say that we must always accompany Morocco
23:20to get to where women can be equal.
23:36This is the end of our edition.
23:38Thank you for following it.
23:40See you next time.
