00:00Multi-million pound budget savings are expected to be approved when councillors debate spending
00:05plans for the coming financial year. Job losses and a council tax rise of 4.99% are among
00:12measures to help Leeds City Council save £103.8 million between 2025 and 2026. The Labour-controlled
00:20authority welcomed an extra £67 million in government funding which eased pressure on
00:25some services, but it warned rising demand on children's services and adult social care
00:30will mean wide-ranging savings need to be considered. A report published ahead of the
00:34meeting said rising inflation had hit the cost of goods and services and people in the
00:39city had reduced disposable incomes. Current plans include a review of 56 children's centres,
00:45children's transport services, community committees and the council's cultural investment programme.
00:50The council has also warned about potential compulsory redundancies. The plans are expected
00:56to be agreed on Wednesday 26th February.
