00:31Sharjah International Book Fair gathers 173 authors from 68 Arab and foreign countries
00:37to discuss their bodies of work in workshops, seminars and question and answer sessions
00:42to highlight their craft and broaden interest and knowledge in their works.
00:46One of the must-see during the fair is the display of the longest handwritten Quran.
00:50An Indian exhibitor who has already written a 300-meter-long Quran scroll will next year
00:54attempt to break the world record for the longest handwritten Quran.
00:58M. Dilif, a caricaturist from India, told Gulf News that he will write around 12 hours
01:03daily to add 700 meters to his 300-meter scroll to reach his 1,000-meters target by November 2020.
01:17The current world record for the longest handwritten Quran is widely said to be 700 meters, set
01:22by Egyptian artist Sa'ad Mohamed in 2017.
01:26Another unique find is the atlas collection worth 3.5 million dirhams.
01:31UK-based bookseller Peter Harrington, a first-time exhibitor, boasts several rare and collectible
01:36books on display from Shakespeare to Karl Marx.
01:39It's the most lavishly produced atlas, it's considered the best atlas ever made.
01:44It's got 599 maps in it, it was produced mainly as gifts for princes and royal family.
01:49They also exhibit a rare collectible that is of interest to Arab buyers, a photography
01:53book worth 300,000 dirhams showcasing the earliest years of commercial aviation in a
01:59Gulf comprising of 550 photographs.
02:02Rare collectibles by Shakespeare are also highly sought after.
02:05The 11-day event runs from October 30 to November 10.
