00:00Welcome to Day 6 here at the Dubai International Film Festival.
00:11Lots of interesting movies on offer today and definitely a bit more of a regional feel.
00:15We start off with the world premiere of Peace on the River Tigris.
00:18It's a documentary by Japanese journalist and filmmaker Takeharu Watai documenting the
00:23impact of the Iraq war through the eyes of Baghdad's citizens.
00:27Iraq war documentaries are not so many at first.
00:31Palestine documentaries are a lot.
00:34There are a lot of Middle East documentaries, but Iraq documentaries are not so many.
00:39So that's why people are very interested.
00:42Also during 10 years, the 10 year period is very important, especially One Family.
00:50One Family story is very impressive, so that's why a lot of people are interested.
00:56So a lot of people can understand how is the life of Iraq people.
01:02Making its Middle Eastern premiere is the film Tigers, about an individual salesman
01:05who tries to take on some of Pakistan's biggest corporations.
01:09It stars Bollywood actor Imran Hashemi and is directed by Denis Tanovich.
01:13You never know what's going to happen.
01:14You make films, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
01:17You just keep making them and the funny thing is each time you start from zero, you think
01:22like oh God, I made so many films and now I know how it's going to go, but you just
01:28do your best.
01:29This one took eight years of my life and I just hope that it's going to be seen and for
01:35me it's even more important for this film to be seen in Pakistan or in Malaysia or in
01:41China or in African countries where this problem still persists and where most of these babies
01:47are dying.
01:48Well, the big one at the Marinat Arena here tonight is Egyptian film Cairo Nights, which
01:52stars Arab film legend Noor Al Sharif.
01:55As we reported earlier this week, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award here at DEF.
02:00Unfortunately, this huge input into our minds through the day, one would spend a lot of
02:10time in the evening deleting it so that there would be some more fresh space for us the
02:18day after for another new input and this is extremely dangerous for the human memory.
02:27Cairo time is an endeavour to activate our human memory.
02:33And a special mention goes to the film Atlantic.
02:36This unusual movie sheds light on the thriving yet obscure windsurfing community off the
02:41Moroccan coast and has a traditional love story thrown in for good measure.
02:45A large part of our film is shot on the ocean and shooting a film on the ocean is a big
02:51challenge.
02:52We were four miles off the coast because I really wanted it to feel like the open ocean
02:55and so we had to go there every day and with three boats and we had a helicopter and we
03:01had to shoot and everybody got seasick.
03:03Even the main actor got seasick.
03:04In the end, there's a scene where he throws up and it's real because he's just sick and
03:08I mean this was a huge challenge to get everybody on the boats every day to motivate them.
03:13Looking forward to tomorrow and it's the penultimate day here at DEF where we'll have the awards
03:17ceremony, special interviews and plenty of world and Middle Eastern premieres.
03:21Remember, you can stay up to date with the latest on our website, gulfnews.com.
03:25I'm Naveed Jabbarkia reporting from the Dubai International Film Festival.
