00:00Day 6 here at Dubai International Film Festival, with 31 films being showcased today, we spoke
00:13to Joyce Nashawati, director of BLIND SON, which is having its MENA premiere tonight
00:18at Mall of the Emirates.
00:19BLIND SON is a mystery thriller which takes place in Greece.
00:24It's about a main character which is a housekeeper, and it takes place in the near future, where
00:35Greece has succumbed to a very heavy heat wave, and water has become a very rare commodity,
00:43and that creates a kind of atmosphere of constant tension between people.
00:49My mastery director of 3,000 Knives spoke to us about what it would mean to her to win
00:54the Moore Feature Award.
00:55We shall see about Moore, I'd be very happy, but I'm already, I feel the biggest prize
01:01has been the reaction of the audience.
01:03So if it wins a prize in Moore, it'll be another plus for the film.
01:08Sara Elshei, director of OPEN WOUND, which is up for a Moore Emirati Award, spoke to
01:13us about a woman's role in film.
01:15We really have a lot of stories to tell, and the role of women in UAE cinema is very important.
01:23Not because they are women, but because we need to see the woman's corner and the side
01:29of the story.
01:30Not just, oh, that's a woman and she's in the film.
01:34No, we need to see her point of view, we need to see depth, more depth, because it's easy
01:40for people not to see a woman's world, especially if you're so used to seeing one type of films.
01:48And that's not just for UAE, for the world, honestly.
01:50We are missing women's roles.
01:52That's it for Day 6.
