00:00Live from Radio Rose, sports coverage of Super Bowl 59 continues. Joe Lisi
00:06alongside the big man, Cornelius Lucas, Washington offensive tackle. Unbelievable
00:12atmosphere here in New Orleans and a great game on Sunday, Cornelius.
00:16Yes, sir.
00:17Any thoughts about how this game potentially might play out on Sunday?
00:22I think it's gonna be, it's gonna go down to the wire. It's gonna be a nail-biter.
00:28I'm tired of seeing Kansas City win, but I really don't want Philly to win, but I
00:36think I'm gonna go with Philly.
00:38Philly, yeah. Now, you had a great game against them.
00:42I mean, Jayden and that offense put up, you know, 23 points. Just from what you
00:47see, right, in terms of, obviously, that front seven. You went up against them.
00:52Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith. Do you think that's a mismatch
00:58problem going up against the offensive line of Kansas City?
01:01It all depends on how those guys come out for the day. You know, with football, it's any
01:06given Sunday. Any man can beat any other man, and I feel like with their
01:11front seven, there's a lot of beef up front, so these guys got to be ready to roll,
01:14got to bring their lunch pail, and I'm excited to see.
01:19I don't know how it's gonna play out, man.
01:21We'll see. We'll see. We'll see. You had a dynamic season. I told you before,
01:26Jayden Daniels has been my guy. Followed him for his days at Arizona State, in
01:31terms of his freshman performance, straight through the Heisman Trophy
01:35season, and then what he was able to bring to your offense. You know, and not
01:39just Jayden, but Dan Quinn, your head coach. First year head coach comes in. The
01:44mess that you had at the end of the Ron Rivera era, right? I mean, you started fast.
01:49You win the NFC East in terms of his first season there. It was a slow
01:53regression, and then the change in ownership from Schneider to your
01:58current owner right now, Josh Harris. Talk to me a little bit about the
02:02transition from, you know, a losing organization to just a miracle
02:08turnaround in your number one. Literally, I feel like the program from that four
02:13and 13 season we had, balled up, everybody with it, thrown in the trash, and here
02:19comes in this fresh AP, this fresh DQ, fresh owners. I feel like you can't ask
02:26for a better synergy than that. From top down, I feel like everything was
02:30changed. The way we went about things, the format of our schedule, the way
02:36we recovered, the amount of money they put into every little thing that had to
02:40do with winning, the way that DQ sees recovery and the way
02:45that he keeps his players fresh and engaged. I haven't seen it in all my time
02:50in Washington. This is season five. That's incredible. That's incredible, and as an
02:54offensive tackle, right, you're protecting the quarterback. The money bag.
02:59Right, so the money bag. Two years ago, we had a, you could say Sam Howell comes in,
03:04you know, mid-round draft pick, right? Comes in 21 touchdowns, 21 interceptions.
03:09Mobile, but not anywhere near the athleticism of Jaden Daniels. What is the
03:14difference in terms of that approach, basically blocking for a prototypical
03:19pocket passer compared to what you have in terms of Superman now that can take
03:23over a game at any given moment with his legs? Night and day. Night and day. As an
03:29offensive tackle, with Sam Howell, I had to be perfect because I knew he would be
03:33back there looking at his progression, his reads. With five, I just gotta get in front
03:38of the guy, and if I get in front of him and don't get a clean shot on him, five
03:43is gonna take off or throw a dot. There's only two options.
03:47Take off for 15 to 20 or throw a dot. It's unbelievable in terms of what
03:52Jaden has done. I saw it at LSU. That Heisman Trophy year was dynamic. His
03:58leadership, though, I feel like that goes unnoticed as well because he's, I've
04:03never seen, at least following college football, following his career, I've never
04:08seen Jaden Daniels rattled in the moment. Not a big rah-rah guy at all. You
04:13probably wouldn't hear him, you probably wouldn't notice him in a room if you
04:16didn't know him, but the way he works, the way he goes about his day, I haven't
04:22seen in a rookie ever. His poise, like the leadership is in the poise. The
04:27leadership is in the coolness because we're down ten and guys as cool
04:31as the fan as if we winning. So it's like when you got a guy like that, there's
04:34always hope. You can always rally and just keep fighting for a guy, man.
04:40It's amazing when you just think about the turnaround, but part of the
04:44turnaround is not just Dan Quinn, right? You talk about the winning culture, it's
04:48the staff, it's the pieces that they put in place, and it's not just Jaden. I
04:52love Brian Roberts, a great running back. You know, Ed, Austin Ackler, another
04:55dynamic running back. Chris Rodriguez, a beast from Kentucky. I mean, you talk
05:00about five yards every time he carries the football, but Cliff Kingsbury as
05:04well. I feel like Cliff Kingsbury is that OC. Mr. Aggressive. Really? Mr.
05:09Aggressive. How is he in the locker room? Because he walks in, he looks like, you know.
05:15He's like the Terminator, man. You can't kill him. Like, we could be down on 21 and he's
05:19still like, hey, let's get on these guys. Right. I got a plate called dialed up to
05:23get a seven right now, and you believe it. Right. Like at any given moment, he can
05:27call something, then five can pull it off. And he's rolling sevens every time, right?
05:31He's like at the craps table, rolling sevens. The luckiest guy knows, man. The luckiest guy side of the cliff, man.
05:38I mean, his days as Arizona head coach, and more importantly, I remember days at
05:43Texas Tech as the head coach there, just putting up dynamic numbers with Pat. What
05:48stands out for you throughout the season? Because you go 12 and 5. Okay. You
05:52know, you talk about tempered expectations. Nobody thought that you would
05:57potentially challenge the Eagles for the division, right? You were within
06:01striking distance. You know, just expectations were that maybe you win
06:05five, six, seven games. You win 12 and you're number one. 12 games. What stands out for
06:11you as a memorable moment throughout this season? Man, we had so many. The Hail
06:17Mary. The last minute when we pulled off versus Philly.
06:23Mariota getting in the game versus the Cowboys. That was amazing. Let me tell
06:31you. That was an amazing game. He comes in, he breaks a 35-yard run with 30
06:35seconds left. He's running, boys. That was amazing. And then your star, Terry
06:42McLaurin, right? With Jaden. Scary Terry. Scary Terry had his best performance in
06:47terms of touchdown receptions with Jaden Daniels. But he's been doing it. He's just
06:52consistent and he's a great professional. What does it mean to have a young
06:56nucleus like that? Especially being an O-lineman and seeing those guys being
07:00stepping up. When you can look down the field and the ball is going 60 yards
07:07into this guy's hands and it's a touchdown. And I don't have to do no more
07:12blocking. I can just jog down and line up a field goal. That's the best feeling in the world.
07:18That's awesome. Sky is the limit, right? For your number two with Jaden
07:22Daniels and Dan Quinn. I mean, Super Bowl or bus now, right? All the expectations on
07:27us. That's it. Nobody wasn't expecting anything last year, but now we got it all this year.
07:31That's it. I'm a college guy, sorry. Ask all the guys out. K-State, Wildcat, right?
07:35So, Ron Prince was there up until 2008. You were there in 2009. Bill Snyder comes
07:40back. Just talk to me about that performance. You know, playing in
07:44Manhattan, playing in the Big 12. And now when you see conference realignment, what
07:49it means for you in terms of your college days? Man, shout out to Coach Snyder.
07:54Coach Snyder was one of the hardest, toughest coaches I've ever had in my
07:58life. Really? To the point where if I had to play football, if I had to go back and
08:01redo college, I wouldn't be sitting here again. That's how hard it was. But I
08:05appreciate him for every lesson he gave me. All the hard work he instilled in me,
08:09man. I appreciate Manhattan for embracing me the way they did. I had a blast in
08:14college. I don't think I could have picked a better college to go to to get
08:17me ready for where I'm at today. And I think K-State is the reason I'm at the
08:22place I am today. Because of all the lessons and all the things I learned
08:25being there. And you see like your former quarterback from two years ago, Will
08:30Howard, that comes in, right? And he wins a national championship for Ohio State,
08:34right? Crazy. It's amazing. You think K-State could ever make the college
08:38football playoff move in full? Sure. For sure. We just gotta line it up, man. Like,
08:42with winning championships, it's all about the pieces falling into play.
08:46Because you have star players, you can have all the talent, but if the coach is
08:50not hitting, if the training staff's not hitting, if your luck's not hitting. Because
08:54at the end of the day, football is a game of luck. Absolutely. So you got to have
08:57all those things in synergy to get championships, man. Great insight. Great
09:02information. Appreciate the time. Thank you. We'll be back after this.
