00:00All right, our continuing coverage here at Super Bowl 59, Adam Kaplan and Lijai Duesable,
00:07former NFL defensive lineman, and Lijai and I were talking off the air here, and I know
00:12you've watched Chiefs tape, Eagles tape, so let's get started, let's get right to it.
00:18You really let off a bell in my head.
00:20I love it.
00:21I was like, wow.
00:22That's why I do this.
00:23Okay, let's get, so you and I were talking about earlier that Spaggs did some stuff earlier
00:29this year.
00:30Correct.
00:31Okay, so you got Saquon Barkley, number 26, got the Chiefs defense, Chiefs one of the
00:34best running defenses in the National Football League, but as you know, as being a former
00:38defensive tackle, at any given time, Saquon Barkley could break one.
00:43So what does Spaggs need to do here?
00:44So that's the thing, right?
00:45You've got to be gap sound, and when I say gap sound, if you have a gap responsibility,
00:49you need to be in it, because as soon as you're not, to your point, Saquon Barkley can take
00:54any run, 60, 70, 80 yards.
00:56So it's interesting.
00:57It's interesting.
00:58We were talking, I saw earlier, I went back and watched the tape from the Houston Texans,
01:01and literally it was the first couple plays of the game.
01:04The Houston Texans came out in 12 personnel.
01:05For people that don't know what that means, one back, two tight end.
01:08That is what the Philadelphia Eagles major in.
01:10They major in a lot of 12 personnel.
01:13What they did, which was so interesting, Spaggs, and this is XC and OE, so if it's too much,
01:19you know, just bear with us for a second.
01:21They went to reduced front, and when I say reduced front, a lot of times you'll take
01:25that one defensive end that's usually outside of the offensive tackle, you'll put him in
01:28the inside shoulder of the offensive tackle, and you'll bring a linebacker on the edge.
01:32That way you have essentially a five down front, right?
01:35Two linebackers behind you.
01:36So what Spaggs did, instead of making it McDana as the four eyes, what we call the inside
01:41of the tackle shoulder, he put Leo Chanel there in a two point stance.
01:45Folks, Leo Chanel is a strong side linebacker, so when you watch that tape, see Spagnoli
01:49the great defensive coordinator, who once worked for the Eagles many years ago, but
01:55when you saw him do this, because when you told me this, I was like, you can't do that.
01:59Are you going to get away with it?
02:00He only did it like twice, but I think it's a caveat just to see how he can switch things
02:03up and give you a reduced front by giving you different personnel looks.
02:07Now, again, later on in the game, McDana reduced down and he had Chanel on the edge, but I
02:12think it's something that Spaggs just wants to throw out there to see how it worked.
02:15And on that play, Chanel showed well, right?
02:18He's going against a tackle and an offensive guard, and he held his own, and I think the
02:22carry only went for like two or three yards.
02:24So Spaggs in the back of his head is like, well, I can maybe switch things up and they
02:27don't know what's coming.
02:28That way I can get McDana on the edge, just in case it is heavy play action pass, I get
02:32a pass rush because this is where it's XC and OE, because when you're in the four eye,
02:37you're not in a great position to rush the passer, because you're in the inside shoulder
02:40of the offensive tackle.
02:41Fletcher Cox hated that in the beginning, when they started to run the Fangio defense
02:47with Eagles some years ago, and he had to get used to it.
02:49It was a different technique, he said.
02:50It is.
02:51It's completely different, right?
02:52So, like, it's great if you're essentially going to be the B-gap player, playing over
02:56the guard.
02:57But if you're the four eye and you have to work back outside, it's the worst position
03:00to be in.
03:01So I think that's what Spaggs was thinking.
03:03He was like, Leo Chanel can hold up in the run game, but just in case the Eagles decide
03:07to go heavy play action pass, we got McDana on the edge versus tight end rushing and he
03:12can win that one-on-one.
03:13Let me ask you this question with Barkley on the other side.
03:15You see that Eagle offensive line, arguably the heaviest in NFL history.
03:20So as a defensive tackle, how do you prepare for that?
03:22That's a mentality thing.
03:23A hundred percent.
03:24And I guarantee Steve Spagnuolo, Joe Cullen, who I love, was my defensive line coach two
03:30years in Jacksonville.
03:31He's the defensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.
03:33He will have them mentally ready.
03:35Like Chris Jones and Mike Dana and Amenahu and George Karloffis and Nnamdi, like these
03:40guys will have to play sound because you talked about it.
03:44This offensive line from the Eagles, they just move guys off the line of scrimmage.
03:47They literally move guys and change the line of scrimmage.
03:51Mekhi Becton, I mean, shout out to coach Jeff Stoutley, one of the best in the league because
03:56this guy played all left tackle his whole career.
03:59Never played guard, right?
04:00And now he's like a perennial Pro Bowl guard, right?
04:02He's going to get paid this offseason being a guard probably for whatever team he plays
04:06for.
04:07Sure.
04:08He's what?
04:09360, 370.
04:10These guys, Landon Dickerson, 360, like these guys move guys off the ball.
04:15And that's why I think when you go reduce front, it's kind of hard to do double teams,
04:19right?
04:20Because you have everybody gapped out.
04:21So it's essentially five single blocks.
04:24I think that's what Spags will do to mitigate and try to take some of that punishment off
04:28his defensive line.
04:29All right.
04:30Lee Jay.
04:31Sunday.
04:32Yep.
04:33Eagles.
04:34Chiefs.
04:35Who do you like?
04:36So I've been going back and forth because everybody talks about the pedigree for the
04:37Kansas City Chiefs, right?
04:38This is the most complete team in the NFL when you talk about the Philadelphia Eagles, right?
04:42They have the star power.
04:43I just think the look in Jalen Hurch's eyes and the way he's carried himself throughout
04:48this process, you can tell he's still pissed off about two years ago because essentially
04:52it was his fumble that kind of changed the course of the game because he was the best
04:55player on the field.
04:56Great that day.
04:57People keep right.
04:58He was the best player on the field that day.
05:00I think the Philadelphia Eagles get it done and they stopped the dynasty from three peening.
05:04Wow.
05:05OK.
05:06You heard it.
05:07You heard it from Lee Jay.
05:08Adam Kaplan.
