00:00:00not a true football friday without an actual football game this weekend we are not counting
00:00:06the pro ball games in the flag football contest we are going to see on sunday afternoon but still
00:00:12when you're nine days away from super bowl sunday and you have 30 other teams around the national
00:00:18football league focused on the future it becomes a football friday for the next hour and a half or so
00:00:25live right here on tel jordan area i said focused on the future but at the year end press conference
00:00:33yesterday in western new york bills gm brandon bean was not so focused on the future but
00:00:38discussing what happened during championship sunday and some of those controversial calls
00:00:43in the fourth quarter that went against his bills organization in kansas city let's hear
00:00:51what the bills gm had to say yeah it's frustrating um you know there's only so much i can say
00:00:57um you know i don't you know we we work with the league to try to get clarity and and i'll give
00:01:03them credit they've they've taken our calls they've sent video and things like that i just
00:01:10you know i wish you know if you're talking about like the fourth downplay that was you know i'm
00:01:17i feel like he you know he got that and i still feel like he got that i felt that
00:01:23in the moment and i nothing has changed my mind on that you know and and
00:01:32you know the the play that we challenged i thought was a good challenge i think
00:01:36i'm not sure either player had possession um on the bishop worthy play when the ball touched
00:01:44when the ball touched the ground you have to you have to have possession it's like what is possession
00:01:50and what matt says is possession might not be what elena says is possession you know what i
00:01:56mean it's a little bit but when the ball touches the ground someone has to have established
00:02:01possession and you know again they've given how they see it and that's their job and and
00:02:09um but it is what it is and that's those are just like plays we didn't make in a game too
00:02:16that so by no means are we saying that's why we lost the game
00:02:22by no means are they saying that's why they lost the game despite a minute and a half of an answer
00:02:29that really leads you to the conclusion that maybe those are the plays that lost
00:02:34buffalo the game we're gonna do this right we have some time brandon bean was asked about it
00:02:39he gave a transparent response of course they have been in communication with the league office
00:02:44all that stuff i'll share some thoughts in just a moment but joe what did you make of what brandon
00:02:49bean had to say looking back one final time on conference championship weekend
00:02:56what is that what is that smell yeah uh let me explain something to you here uh buffalo
00:03:02uh and i get i know it's hard because once again in the biggest stage at the biggest moment uh you
00:03:09guys have uh failed uh and you failed yourselves you failed the fan base and ultimately any time
00:03:16and why is it buffalo always it seems like when the game matters the most you're relying on the
00:03:23refs to make the right call or hoping the ball bounces your way instead of making your own luck
00:03:30and making your own advantages there uh somebody and i would have loved uh somebody up there to
00:03:36be like or maybe james cook is on the field at that point in the game as opposed to keeping him
00:03:44on the sideline uh that entire final drive as well maybe i don't know if the refs had anything to do
00:03:50with that but maybe that is where you should be focusing on some of those coaching decisions
00:03:55and not necessarily whether you got a half a yard on a fourth down which
00:04:00why were you in that spot to begin with ben would be my question absolutely so was dasa not short of
00:04:06the first down on the play prior yeah i think he was but if you don't want to leave any doubt
00:04:13get to the sticks on fourth and short maybe joe brady don't call your fourth fake tush push that
00:04:19has not worked with great success against kansas city's front and have your battering ram of a
00:04:24quarterback run a qb power that worked a lot better and you get the first down by a foot by
00:04:30two feet by a yard not maybe by the tip of the football allowing the referees in a very tough
00:04:38spot and a massive human bodies to mark the ball short and thus as we all know allow the call to
00:04:46stand even if it seems incorrect at the moment did the refs brandon bean keep you with three
00:04:52minutes and 33 seconds and three timeouts in your pocket from converting even two first downs and
00:04:59getting into scoring territory when you were only down by three to the refs brandon bean after you
00:05:06after all those controversial plays tied the football game at 29 all allow kansas city to
00:05:12march down the field rather quickly and set up harrison butker for a field goal that was the
00:05:18game winner was that on the refs or was that on your players was that on buffalo because joe if
00:05:23josh allen's fourth down conversion that was failed happened in the final minute and a half
00:05:28and the chiefs got the football back scored and the bills never saw it again i think buffalo would
00:05:34have a legitimate gripe there was 13 minutes remaining in the football game and you tied
00:05:39said football game and then you allowed the go-ahead field goal and you still had three minutes and 33
00:05:45seconds and three time outs only needing three points to send the game to overtime and now you
00:05:52would get the ball in overtime guaranteed or win the football game in kansas city that was your
00:06:00agency that was your action and you failed to do so once again brandon b was asked about it i thought
00:06:07his answer for the most part was loser mentality until the very end when he summed it up but the
00:06:14idea that the officials are solely helping kansas city and holding their opponents back is a tired
00:06:21idea kansas city is not overwhelming this year as they have been in years past but you know why they
00:06:27have played in seven consecutive afc championship games about to be in their fifth super bowl in the
00:06:32last six years in nfl record because they make the plays when it matters most and other teams
00:06:39have failed to do so albeit against kansas city in years past yeah i hate all of that narrative
00:06:48because ultimately listen you want to leave no doubt then you win the game you do all the little
00:06:54things correct ben and it doesn't matter if you only do 95 we played 95 a great game but the other
00:07:01five percent boy we blame the rest well then play 100 perfect game because that's what it's going to
00:07:07take to take down a two-time defending world champion who's now going for its third straight
00:07:14unprecedented third straight you can't make the silly stupid mistakes the bad calls not having
00:07:20the right personnel on the field opting early to go for two instead of kicking the x i mean there's
00:07:25a million things that don't rely on the refs in that game that caused buffalo to be on once again
00:07:32the short end of the stick yes absolutely so now as we focus elsewhere around the nfl to the teams
00:07:40that will play in super bowl 59 brandon graham one of the leaders of this eagles organization
00:07:46for a very long time back on the practice field yesterday last played in late november
00:07:53suffered a torn triceps injury it's been nearly two months joe we talked to pro football doc
00:08:00dr david chow earlier in the week here on tel on monday he expressed some caution so to say
00:08:06that brandon graham would actually play in super bowl 59 but it made a ton of sense to open up his
00:08:12practice window and at least have him back around the team on a daily minute by minute basis so that
00:08:18of course is a positive for the eagles yeah not very positive uh to get him back and you know
00:08:25that's that defense man was is you know one of the best uh down the stretch that we've seen it
00:08:31just got a little bit better a little bit more experienced that's great news for the philadelphia
00:08:36eagles defense it is indeed and again brandon graham is a guy that has been in philadelphia
00:08:41the entirety of his career he was drafted in 2010 he has been with the eagles for all 15 seasons to
00:08:49have that presence just back around you i'm sure he's been in the facility a ton over the last two
00:08:54months sure but to have that guy there in actual practice preparation that's a great thing as donny
00:08:59has once told us the greatest moment of his life was way back in 2017 when the eagles won a super
00:09:06bowl in super bowl 52 in the bg strip sack he said it was the greatest moment of his life more nfl
00:09:14headlines and then we turn our attention to super bowl 59 next some more nfl headlines and joe a
00:09:20very positive one from yesterday concussions around the national football league down to a
00:09:26historic low throughout the 2024 nfl campaign down by nearly 17 percent from last year and one of the
00:09:36main reasons was getting rid of or at least changing the format of what many consider and
00:09:42we well know the most dangerous play in football that being kickoffs the new dynamic kickoff a
00:09:48success as we saw plenty more returns some of it very very exciting and of course joe one of the
00:09:53other reasons for the change in rule and format of that dynamic kickoff to protect the health and
00:09:59safety of players worked incredibly well again concussions around the national football league
00:10:04down by 17 percent from just a season ago or you just were better at hiding them and not reporting
00:10:14them as much could be but the kickoffs is good too ben kickoffs is good too i mean that's that's
00:10:19a great stat uh but uh i still think there are plenty of opportunities uh for guys to get their
00:10:25bell wrong here in the nfl that's what we call the nature of the beast there ben indeed you will never
00:10:31truly change the sport that is football one that is very violent but any bit of success is a good
00:10:39sign liam cohen starting to figure out his jacksonville staff hiring anthony campanile
00:10:45as their new defensive coordinator campanile was the packers linebacker coach this previous season
00:10:52so good for jacksonville joe did you watch the pro bowl games last night to see the nfc take an
00:10:58early touchdown lead 14 to 7 over the afc i had yeah i'm gonna be honest with you ben i could not
00:11:07wait uh to watch anything else other than that uh i want absolutely nothing to do with a three
00:11:14day event and you call it an all-star game i'm good i'm good with it but i'm sure it was a lot
00:11:18of fun yeah it looked like a great time i was at a sports bar last night meeting up with some
00:11:23friends before dinner we had all our plenty of viewing options watching penn state ohio state
00:11:29inside rec hall we had some golf on one of the screens then for a moment they put every tv screen
00:11:34on the pro bowl games as they were starting the the trivia contest passing the test whatever it
00:11:40was called almost lost my mind they quickly rectified they made a simple technical mistake
00:11:45but yeah i watched a little bit of the pro bowl game seemed like a great time
00:11:49indeed uh 2026 super bowl odds for super bowl 60 out in san francisco better yet said santa clara
00:11:57the odds are out the chiefs are the favorites right now at a six to one price the baltimore
00:12:02ravens plus 650 second best number the eagles at seven to one the bills at plus 850 the lions round
00:12:10out the top five at 10 to one we'll have plenty of time to dissect those numbers next week and
00:12:17for the many many months that follow super bowl 59 which is now joe just nine days away you and
00:12:25i are here today on what is turning into a football friday we will be here on the early line together
00:12:31every day throughout super bowl week we'll have some coverage of course live from maybe not live
00:12:37but from new orleans from our guys there you'll see plenty of it here on the early line but joe
00:12:43and i will be in the hosting chairs to get you prepared for the biggest game of any nfl season
00:12:48but you're really our first time to talk about these numbers together and get your perspective
00:12:54entering super bowl week here are where the odds stand for super bowl 59 nine days out the
00:13:01chiefs remain a point and a half favorite a couple of cents of movement once again on the money line
00:13:08it was minus 130 yesterday in favor of kc now minus 126 the big news joe on this friday the
00:13:16total has officially dropped by a point 49 and a hook on the fan dual sports book has now become
00:13:2248 and a half what is your early read on these numbers for super bowl 59 yes so my initial
00:13:31thought was this was about the number ben i had it at one one and a half uh to begin with and this
00:13:38is what the look ahead line was my intrigue was going to be uh with the uh the total and where
00:13:47would that go right i mean i think the look ahead line was 47 and a half we saw it get up as high
00:13:54as 49 now it's kind of settled right around the 48 and a half 49 mark somewhere in that ballpark
00:14:01i am of the belief what you see is what you get with the side ben one and a half is what that
00:14:06number is going to be i don't think it's going to move one way or the other you're not that you're
00:14:12not going to get the two it was there briefly and then it got knocked that back down to one and a
00:14:17half i don't think this is going to get closer to a pick them i think what you see is what you get
00:14:22the interesting thing to me is going to be this total because we know once we get to saturday ben
00:14:27the public is going to run to the window saturday and sunday and guess what they're going to be
00:14:32betting they are going to be betting the over uh that's what it happens every year so the question
00:14:38is does this thing move up and if so are the pros just waiting until that moment where it hits 50 to
00:14:47come in and just hammer the under i have a feeling that is where this is going where the pros with
00:14:54the big money bets are sitting on the sidelines waiting for the public to make their move on the
00:14:59total to the over for them to come in last minute ben and hammer that thing to the under yeah you
00:15:04know joe we have seen this total now work down we'll talk more about the total where it stands
00:15:09and where it could be in just a matter of moments but 48 and a half along with last year's total of
00:15:1447 and a hook would be the two lowest totals back to back the only two over-unders for a super bowl
00:15:21officially fewer than 49 points in the last eight seasons now let's talk about these two teams and
00:15:28how they compare to one another joe i think you're spot on and the idea that the chiefs were always
00:15:34going to be the favorites for this game they will remain the favorites even if it's just by a point
00:15:39and a half we've got two of the five best defenses in the nfl none better than philadelphia the
00:15:45chiefs just keep winning single score games 17 consecutive an nfl record a perfect 12 and oh
00:15:52the entirety of this year how do you compare these two teams where do you think the advantages might
00:16:00be on one side versus the other well and listen i i think it's amazing ben since this is only the
00:16:07second time in the history of the nfl where we have two teams meeting within a three-year period
00:16:13in the super bowl there's a lot of similarities with these two teams but there is a lot different
00:16:19from a few years ago here ben and i think that's going to reflect in how you should be betting this
00:16:24game we will compare these two we will look at the totals we'll do everything we'll ask some big
00:16:31picture questions in hour two but next up we round out the opening hour looking at the over under
00:16:37next let's talk the total for super bowl 59 it is slightly moved in the last 24 hours now nine
00:16:45days away from super bowl sunday in the big easy 49 and a half was what the total was for super
00:16:53ball 59 for most of this week but as you will see there it is now down by a full point to 48
00:17:01and a hook again we are talking just a single point in joe and ari shared with you before we
00:17:07got to the break what he expects out of the public later next week about a week from now friday
00:17:13saturday into the weekend and of course as we get to super bowl sunday game day joe just some
00:17:20history in terms of the total last year was 47 and a hook and despite overtime stayed under that
00:17:27number we have been under our pre-game totals in five of the previous six super bowls the only over
00:17:34the last time these two teams faced off in the biggest game super bowl 57 out in glendale arizona
00:17:41kansas city winning outright as an underdog 38 35 over a total that was north of 50 again
00:17:49since super bowl 52 when the eagles knocked off the patriots even a super bowl prior to that super
00:17:57bowl 51 so we're talking our last eight super bowls this and last year would be the only two
00:18:04totals sub 49 so how do you read where the total stands right now so this is about right uh ben
00:18:15because unlike a few years ago when these two teams met they were much more offensive oriented
00:18:23teams uh and you know we didn't give a whole lot of credit there to philadelphia's defense at that
00:18:29time we didn't you know spags always ends up having his guys ready by the playoffs was the
00:18:34narrative but it was all about the high flying offenses that is not the case uh this year here
00:18:42ben we've got kansas city who will have no problem draining the clock beating you by three
00:18:48uh having a chance to beat you with under two minutes to go no shootouts philadelphia even
00:18:55though they put up 55 points against washington their mo all year has been we're gonna win with
00:19:02defense it's why you bring in vic fangio it's why you spent them the draft capital and the money on
00:19:07the defensive side you wanted to have a defense and they turned out to be the number one defense
00:19:12in the nfl what 17 and a half points a game somewhere along those lines and quite honestly
00:19:19if it wasn't for the kansas city chiefs defense this year they're not 15 and 2 ben they're not
00:19:2415 and 2 because my homes and the offense were lighting teams up they're 15 and 2 because that
00:19:30defense has been maybe the best that we've seen in a while here with kansas city so i think the two
00:19:36defensive units are the best units on the field and i think given the fact that they have two
00:19:42great defensive minded uh you know the dcs there are the best in the game with a couple extra weeks
00:19:49to prepare i don't see how i think the total is exactly where it should be there ben because i
00:19:55think this game's a lot closer to 45 than i do think it's to 50 and you see those updated team
00:20:02totals now with some movement in the overall number itself and of course a couple of cents
00:20:07here and there on the money line 24 and a half for kc 23 and a half for philadelphia the over
00:20:14on the juice ever so slightly for both there's a lot of offensive talent and i do think we flirt
00:20:20with those team totals i'm a little bit skeptical of where this total actually lands and how i will
00:20:26bet it comes super bowl sunday i have yet to bet the total for this matchup between philadelphia
00:20:32and kansas city but joe to your point this game ended 21 17 24 21 under our pregame number of 48
00:20:41and a hook i wouldn't be surprised i wouldn't be shocked i would be completely understanding
00:20:47of that game flow and format five teams including the postseason all around the nfl this year
00:20:54allowing fewer than 20 points per game on average these are two of those five philadelphia
00:20:59first kansas city top three as well and joe there's been so much conversation oh the refs
00:21:05all the refs patrick mahomes andy reed that's how they're back at a fifth super bowl in the last
00:21:10six years you know who's been there for every single super bowl berth as well steve spagnolo
00:21:17the defensive coordinator for kc chris jones said after the afc championship game you guys think
00:21:24it's all mahomes you keep letting steve spagnolo not interview for head coaching jobs around the
00:21:30nfl in return as rdc we're going to be here each and every year and they're not wrong that i mean
00:21:38they're not wrong it's it's why philadelphia went out to get vic fangio they knew they needed to
00:21:43upgrade they know they had the players because ben it's cliche but defense wins championships
00:21:49i don't know why we think we've gotten away from that because it still holds true yes it
00:21:54certainly does plenty more on a football friday when our two comes your way next
00:22:01we welcome you to our number two live right here on a far friday although not officially
00:22:06a football friday with games to break down this weekend nine days away from super bowl sunday
00:22:13we'll call it a football friday here in hour number two he is germinary i am ben stevens we
00:22:19will have mike bluett join us later on in this second half hour of our second hour that's always
00:22:25an official sign of a football friday as well so much to break down for the biggest game of each
00:22:32and every nfl season and here in this second hour we will do so with a big question for the big game
00:22:40in our number three a lot of college basketball and nba handicaps for your friday evening and
00:22:46sending you into a jammed packed weekend we've got a lot to get to here over these next two
00:22:52hours on the early line yeah it's uh it's time to start here ben as uh we get ready i mean come
00:23:00monday it's going to be buckle up props are out uh all sorts of uh fun ways to bet this the uh
00:23:07the squares i am sure for folks will be taking center stage uh this week so a lot to get to here
00:23:15in this game a lot to get to indeed because here are the numbers now we are down in the countdown
00:23:22two single digits nine days away from super bowl sunday in new orleans including this friday and
00:23:29there you see the odds a point and a half spread in favor of kansas city minus 126 in the money
00:23:36line the total has officially dropped by a full point to 48 and a half will these markets change
00:23:43of course will we see more bets that we can place of course in the coming days and certainly
00:23:49in the next week in the big easy in new orleans but right here right now on the weekend before
00:23:56super bowl weekend let's get you ready in our producer extraordinaire joe friso asking the
00:24:01big questions for the big game that i will deliver and we will discuss so as we talk about
00:24:09these two teams squaring off for a second time in the last three nfl seasons the first big question
00:24:17for the biggest game of each and every season is a rather simple one joe but one of course that
00:24:22will lead to some debate who is actually the better team entering this matchup the chiefs
00:24:30or the eagles
00:24:33well ben i i can absolutely make the argument that the wrong team is favored here i can argue that
00:24:40the eagles 17 and 3 including what three playoff wins right have been way better uh than what the
00:24:49chiefs have uh who have two playoff wins but they had to buy because of the number one seed there
00:24:56when you look at the numbers on paper ben the eagles more points per game 28.4 to 23.2
00:25:04they have the number one defense in the nfl allowing just 17.9 points per game uh that's
00:25:10almost 20 points for the chiefs their defense not that far behind but again that is significant when
00:25:17we're talking about a one game uh playoff here when you put all the things out i can make the
00:25:24argument that the philadelphia eagles better team better defense more ways to beat you they
00:25:31should be closer to a two two and a half point favorite on a neutral field in this game but
00:25:38that would not take into consideration the postseason the experience the coaching and all
00:25:44the other things that go into this there is a huge edge for the chiefs in playoff experience
00:25:51and more importantly knowing how to win these kinds of games they have the better quarterback
00:25:57they have the better coach that matters in this spot here ben but on paper philadelphia is the
00:26:03better team yep i would agree roster wise talent wise they probably give the edge to the eagles
00:26:10on either side of the football but when you dive into the individual matchups i'm still going to
00:26:16trust andy reed in the combination with patrick mahomes far more than i will nick sirianni and
00:26:22jalen hertz and what do we always say what are the most important positions within a football team
00:26:28your head coach and your quarterback to decide the biggest game of the year so maybe the eagles get
00:26:35the edge from a talented roster perspective i still think overall i give the edge to kansas
00:26:41ever so slightly as the odds makers do as well joe i think a couple of years ago out in phoenix
00:26:48the eagles were far more talented the chiefs wide receiver room this year better the chiefs defense
00:26:54this year up and down the list better and performing better than they were back in 2022
00:27:01i think the eagles had the talent gap in a larger way back in 2022 this year i think it's a little
00:27:06bit tighter but one of the great x factors of course one of the biggest changes from the 2022
00:27:12birds in this year's version is saquon barkley on that offensive side of the football and joe
00:27:19there is no doubt we have two elite defenses two of the best defenses in the sport squaring off
00:27:25against one another in a super bowl we have talked about the total at length 48 and a half where it
00:27:32stands right now joe and where it might end come super bowl sunday in nine days do you think the
00:27:39total will ultimately be too high uh it's tough then uh because again there are a number of
00:27:50different paths for this thing to get up and over right but the styles that we have seen both of
00:27:57these teams approach games this year uh it's get out maybe a little if you're philadelphia right
00:28:03have a big second quarter get out have the lead at the break milk the clock 14 15 16 you know play
00:28:11drives and make it impossible for teams to come back and play lockdown defense and listen kansas
00:28:16city wasn't going to drop 30 points on anybody this year they didn't ben they they had to grind
00:28:22they had to have the defense uh keep the game close in order for andy reid and mahomes to win
00:28:28games late so judging the body of work from these two teams and the way that philadelphia wants to
00:28:34run the ball kansas city doesn't have a a consistent running game which means a lot of dinking and
00:28:41dunking moving the chains letting the clock keep rolling right that all of that leads me to an under
00:28:47in this game because the best defense for this game is going to win it i don't the offenses
00:28:54patrick mahomes versus saquon barkley i don't think there's a lot of difference here
00:28:59the difference to me is neither defense is going to allow the 80 yard touchdown run
00:29:04pass you name it i think this is going to be a grind of a game both teams have gone over the
00:29:11number in conference championship weekend the eagles in fact have played two consecutive games
00:29:16to the over there is so much offensive talent i don't think this game ends 17 14 could it end 24
00:29:2421 even 27 21 and barely stay under by the hook perhaps i do think both teams get into the 20
00:29:31and that's where i get a little bit weary because do i have a large edge there to keep this game
00:29:37under do i want to sweat out my buffalo wings come super bowl sunday that will be my decision
00:29:44in the coming days here for super bowl 59 i will say this joe again this is a dynastic run
00:29:51for kansas city five super bowl appearances in seven seasons that patrick mahomes has been the
00:29:56starting quarterback the main difference for kc these previous two campaigns the offense has been
00:30:03rather mediocre 12th and 13th in scoring offense the last two years 23 points per game this year
00:30:0922.2 a season ago and joe in the first uh five years of this dynastic run a top six scoring
00:30:18offense averaging at least 28 and a half points in those five seasons different this time around but
00:30:26the best defense we have seen for kc so joe it sounds like you believe there are more pathways
00:30:32to an under the defenses win this game even more than the stellar offensive talent that we have
00:30:39and ben which which is more likely to happen that the offenses play to their averages which would
00:30:46give us a 29 24 game uh or do one of these defenses play to their average 17 or 19 points
00:30:56and i think if you think one of them does this game stays under i think it's a great point joe i
00:31:02really really do and that's why the pathway makes a lot of sense and based on the trend the public is
00:31:07going to bet for points in the biggest game of a year we have seen five the last six superbowls
00:31:13stay under that pre-game total now the big questions in the big game for the big individuals
00:31:19that will impact the outcome big questions for the big game nine days away from superbowl 59
00:31:26in the big easy we talk side we talk total now it's time for the individual players that will
00:31:32dictate the outcome the big questions for the big easy for the biggest game the biggest stars
00:31:39in this sport in the biggest position of responsibility that would be the quarterback
00:31:45let's compare patrick mahomes and jalen hurts the numbers where it stands right now for superbowl
00:31:5159 251 and a hook for mahomes 29 and a half is rushing yards prop jalen hurts still a much
00:31:58lower number 210 and a hook through the air 40 and a half on the ground we will see just how healthy
00:32:04that injured left knee is for jalen hurts with the additional week of rest and still nine days
00:32:10away let's talk about these quarterbacks joe though and the biggest of the big questions
00:32:16how wide is the gap between these two
00:32:20they're two different quarterbacks though i think we also need to understand that right both have
00:32:26shown an ability and it goes without saying for patrick mahomes uh to show up in in big games and
00:32:33let's not forget in 2022 ben jalen hurts wasn't the reason philadelphia lost in that game right
00:32:39so let's let's all i mean he basically carried that team to the point where they almost did
00:32:44to the point where they almost did the unthinkable and beat patrick moms and andy reed there so it's
00:32:50been a little different path for hurts but the reality is you know jalen hurts if healthy enough
00:32:57brings an added dimension of the running uh aspect which is important to what philadelphia
00:33:02wants to do offensively both have quality receivers that they can they can look to i
00:33:08would trust mahomes a little bit more uh if it comes down to throwing the ball to have to win
00:33:15then i would jail and hurts but having said that both have superstar tight ends they can go to as
00:33:22you know safety valves they both have guys that can stretch the field so both quarterbacks very
00:33:28similar i give the edge to mahomes in this spot because the man has how many rings now he's going
00:33:34for a record third ring that doesn't happen by accident ben so until jalen hurts does that
00:33:42he going up against mahomes and a one-off it's always mahomes for me super bowl championships
00:33:48the edge is obviously patrick mahomes he has three super bowl rings at this moment compared to jalen
00:33:55hurts who is making his second super bowl appearance in three years but there is definitely distinction
00:34:02in that as well and joe leaving super bowl 57 in glendale you probably thought this gap was going
00:34:09to tighten between the two not be as wide as it is perceived at this moment because of how great
00:34:16jalen hurts was 374 total yards 304 through the air philly's leading rusher with 70 yards on the
00:34:23ground one of two players in super bowl history to have three rushing touchdowns in a single big
00:34:30game he was sensational he will philadelphia to even be close now some point to the script sack
00:34:36that nick bolton had and took it the other way to the house early in that opening half when philly
00:34:41seemed to be really in possession of that game tied it up at 14 all is it on jalen hurts or is
00:34:49it an unfortunate play where of course turnovers as a whole just cannot be a thing if you are going
00:34:56to hoist a lombardi trophy but joe what's really fascinating about patrick mahomes dropped that
00:35:02exchange on sunday night in terms of the play i believe it was isaiah pacheco in the backfield
00:35:08that buffalo then recovered and took advantage of they were sharing on the broadcast first
00:35:13turnover from a homes at a very long time in his playoff career patrick mahomes has actually been
00:35:21a little bit more turnover prone in super bowls than he had been in afc championship games 16
00:35:27touchdowns to two interceptions in his seven afc championship games in his four prior super bowl
00:35:34appearances seven touchdowns to two to five i and t's so joe i ask this second big question
00:35:44is either quarterback capable of costing his team the game
00:35:51i don't think it's going to come down to the the quarterbacks uh and i don't think it's going to
00:35:55come down to a situation because i think philadelphia's got a win on the back of saquon
00:36:02barkley right i i think that's what it's going to come down to it's going to be saquon barkley if
00:36:08you're asking jalen hurts to drop back 40 times in a game ben then you're kind of dead in the
00:36:14water anyway i i don't think that's going to work out very well in your favor as you're going to
00:36:19become a sitting target back there uh the one i think that's going to have more past attempts
00:36:24who's going to have more completions is patrick mahomes which obviously gives more variance in
00:36:31the ability to turn the ball over ben simply because they don't have a running game like
00:36:35philadelphia does they don't have a consistent running game like they did a year ago which means
00:36:40mahomes in the short passing game is what it's going to be all about and that means he's going
00:36:46to have to throw it 35 or more times uh and i think that correlates to a whole lot of over on
00:36:53passing yards over on completions over on attempts he's got to do that i think he's going to be the
00:36:59one putting the ball in harm's way more often than jalen hurts in this game and that would
00:37:05follow the numbers when you look at saquon barkley one of the best free agent acquisitions in an
00:37:10offseason an nfl franchise has ever seen 22 and a half is his rush attempts prop 1 12 in a hook
00:37:19his number for the biggest game of a season and joe we talked about pathways to an over or an
00:37:26under let's talk about a pathway to an outright victory at a super bowl championship can saquon
00:37:33barkley as an individual a running back that we tried to diminish in the last few years
00:37:39in the nfl win super bowl 59 and bring philadelphia championship by himself
00:37:49it's been a hot minute uh ben since we've had this kind of conversation about an rb being
00:37:54that kind of difference maker in this game here but the answer is absolutely yes and if he does
00:38:03have the kind of game philadelphia needs him to have yeah they win this game and they probably
00:38:08win it rather easily so we've talked a lot about how great the chiefs are defensively
00:38:13and they will be a test for saquon barkley better than the defenses the eagles have seen so far of
00:38:19course throughout their playoff run especially where saquon barkley has been historic last week
00:38:25only 118 yards but on 15 carries in his 760 plus yard rushing touchdown of the year that an nfl
00:38:33record at 205 against the rams casey is better we'll discuss more about the ground game and more
00:38:39with the individuals next we continue to ask the big questions for the big game the biggest game
00:38:45of each and every nfl season super bowl 59 now just nine days out we know that saquon barkley
00:38:53is going to have to be great for philadelphia to win a lombardi trophy and frankly he is expected
00:38:59to be exactly that a historic and record-setting season his first in philly let's talk about the
00:39:06chiefs on the other side joe it's so funny because you have these two teams right second time in
00:39:12three years they face off in a super bowl we have seen kansas city here so many times and so many
00:39:19data points to use and sample size to compare jalen hurts after super bowl 57 we thought he
00:39:26was going to be the top quarterback in the nfc for years to come still obviously has led his team
00:39:31to success but maybe not quite in that distinction at least at this moment isaiah pacheco on that
00:39:38wonderful rookie run into the postseason left super bowl 57 with a lombardi trophy 15 carries
00:39:4576 yards and a touchdown for casey ah the chiefs have done it again they have found their bell cow
00:39:52with a seventh round selection isaiah pacheco injured earlier this year a significant ankle
00:39:59injury just how healthy he is right now despite being back there that remains to be seen but it
00:40:04led on kansas city to call on kareem hunt of course a member of prior super bowl winning teams
00:40:11for casey as well and it seems as though kareem hunt is now the lead back so the big question
00:40:17for casey's backfield as you see their numbers in order for the chiefs to win joe do both kareem
00:40:24hunt and isaiah pacheco need to be good do they need production just out of one can neither be
00:40:30all that outstanding and get close to those props and patrick beholm still will the chiefs to a super
00:40:36bowl championship yeah listen let's not kid ourselves here uh pacheco is not even remotely
00:40:44close to 100 if he was ben i think we'd have a totally different look and the number would be
00:40:50different in this game if kansas city had a legit number one back so pacheco not 100
00:40:59suffered that injury you mentioned early in the season he's got just five carries in two playoff
00:41:05games so far so he is clearly the second choice in just a handful of packages for andy reed and
00:41:13this offense which means kareem hunt is going to be your lead back here so a lot of different ways
00:41:19i think we can fade pacheco uh there's a couple of different ways i think we can fade uh kareem
00:41:25hunt but this all goes back to my point with unlike last year or years prior there is absolutely
00:41:32no consistent running game for kansas city not to mention you've got a philadelphia defense that
00:41:38plays too high safeties all the time in vic fangio why because they're not letting you beat them deep
00:41:43there is you know they're not worthy's not flying down there uncovered they're not going to allow
00:41:49you to do that they're going to make you dink and dunk it i don't know the kareem hunt is a guy
00:41:54as a number one back then that i want to say oh he can take over this game he can't uh but they have
00:42:02to maintain a running game ben otherwise they become very one-dimensional and that's not a
00:42:07good thing either kareem hunt the lead back for kc throughout this postseason 17 carries 64 yards
00:42:13and a rushing score against buffalo in the afc championship game my apologies hunt has been there
00:42:19for prior afc titles but did head to cleveland in 2019 that was the first super bowl appearance for
00:42:26kansas city and they knocked off the niners and damian williams had multiple touchdowns in that
00:42:32game let's talk about the pass catchers then for kansas city of course no more prolific connection
00:42:38in postseasons past the beholmes and travis kelsey he has the highest prop but joe outside
00:42:44of travis kelsey who is the guy that needs to step up on the most significant stage for the chiefs
00:42:51yeah i i think marquise brown has gotta you know when is the breakout game for hollywood brown here
00:42:58because you know pick your poison you've got two guys that can stretch the field there and worthy
00:43:02and brown uh brown started the game off well against uh the bills and then kind of disappeared
00:43:09in the second half here uh xavier worthy has been the kind of go-to guy he's running the ball he's
00:43:15got rushes he's got trick plays but i i think you need hollywood browns why he went out and got him
00:43:22ben i think hollywood brown now healthy has to be able to make a big time play when they need it in
00:43:28this game let's talk to birds quickly here as well jalen hurts his number only 210 and a half but of
00:43:35course his two top targets a.j brown and davante smith how do you approach the eagles wide receiver
00:43:41core and their tight ends for super bowl 59 well got it got it could very well be the leading uh
00:43:48catcher in this entire game i think for philadelphia that's how important i think he is
00:43:5453 and a half his receiving yards prompt two yards up over davante smith mike bluett he's here next
00:44:02maybe not an official football friday as there's no football game this weekend but it's always a
00:44:08football friday if mike bluett is in the house and live right here on the early line there he is big
00:44:14blue for a big game in the big easy nine days out from super bowl sunday and super bowl 59 between
00:44:21the chiefs and the eagles mike bluett delivers his thoughts and his early leans on how super
00:44:27ball 59 is going to play out blue of course as always we appreciate the time
00:44:35great to be with you guys watch a little of that pro bowl games last night that was something else
00:44:40definitely not something to bet on you were the guy oh i tried i heard there was one viewer yes
00:44:48yeah i i tried joe and i looked i was sitting with my dad and i looked over i was like this
00:44:53is unwatchable this is kids games that the adults are playing and the kids game is screwed up so
00:45:02nonetheless i i appreciate that they're trying it's just not working so ben joe thanks for having
00:45:08me obviously there's a lot to go over uh over the course of the next week i'm sure we'll be firing
00:45:13off picks that we like and and angles in the game i heard you guys discussing earlier some of the
00:45:19some of the interesting cat and mouse game that i think we'll find here between spagnolo and kellen
00:45:24moore uh fangio and reed nagy so that to me is really fascinating and i i think the thing that
00:45:31i'm most curious about is how the chiefs choose to attack this eagles defense which is obviously
00:45:37strong on the defensive line has a lot of talent in the defensive backfield but they are young
00:45:42there's a fascinating number of players that have played in this super bowl before not in the super
00:45:48bowl before but dejean mitchell carter not guys with a lot of playoff experience so can
00:45:57mahomes find it in himself to attack downfield mitchell dejean blankenship i'm curious if that's
00:46:05the way that they'll go so what did you originally think mike when we talked about when we covered the
00:46:12the games last week uh we were looking at these look ahead lines and it was about one and a half
00:46:19it's still one and a half i think ben and i are of the mindset that this total it's we've seen a
00:46:26little under money we know the over money is coming in late before the game by the public
00:46:32but where do you fit do you think this leaves one and a half what did you think of the odds in this
00:46:37one is the wrong team favored i think it's a fair question to ask and a lot of people i couldn't
00:46:44really argue much against saying that the wrong team is favored i don't think if it was a true
00:46:50line i don't think philly would be favored by more than what the chiefs are now but putting the chiefs
00:46:56in a position where they're plus money or they are catching a point or two would put the books i think
00:47:03in a really difficult position this line is set for them to try to take even money on it they're
00:47:08probably seeing a lot of that now the under i would suspect shades more towards philly betters
00:47:16philly can win a low scoring game i don't know that the chiefs can frankly the chiefs can win
00:47:20any kind of game but i think an under favors philly and controlling the clock and keeping
00:47:24the homes off the field but i can't say it stuns me joe but it's probably more of a strategic line
00:47:31than it is a true line of power rankings of the team i don't think you're going to see kansas city
00:47:37despite what movement there could be in the next nine days or so ever become an underdog i think
00:47:43the odds makers will be very hesitant to do just that but blue as we compare these two teams second
00:47:50time they face off at a super bowl matchup in the last three seasons joe and i had this conversation
00:47:57earlier who is actually the best team on paper when you look up and down the rosters
00:48:03from a talent perspective for the chiefs and the eagles who do you give the edge
00:48:10i think the slight edge to philly i have said many times on this show that i think the presence
00:48:19of patrick mahomes distracts people from the talent specifically on the defensive side of the
00:48:25ball but when you start to weigh the talent that philly has across the board on defense albeit a
00:48:32lot of it young like i just mentioned and their offensive line which frankly is as talented and
00:48:38dominant an offensive line as we have seen in a really long time you can start to compare the the
00:48:45these versions of the philadelphia eagles offensive line to those cowboys lines in the 90s that won
00:48:51three titles they'll have to do a lot more in order to get three titles but these guys are
00:48:57extremely talented from a lot of to johnson to dickerson we'll see what his health is as we
00:49:03approach the super bowl cam jurgens we have to see what his health is as we approach the super bowl
00:49:07the two weeks off benefit philly more than they benefit the chiefs and i think that gives them
00:49:13the slight edge clearly the quarterback edge is to kansas city but saquon barkley has been such a
00:49:19dominant player and the receiving core it really starts to even out and you have to say the the
00:49:26eagles have a better chance to neutralize what kansas city does defensively just by running the
00:49:31ball down their throat than kansas city does by to joe's point death by a thousand paper
00:49:37cuts to fangio's defense mahomes can do it but it's a higher degree of difficulty
00:49:42ben i mean uh mike when we look at this here and from a big picture perspective then the
00:49:52narratives that we're looking at here we're talking about mahomes and andy reed doing
00:49:57something that has never been done in the history of the nfl going back to back to back winning a
00:50:04third straight super bowl the goat didn't do this i mean you go back in history on some of the
00:50:11greatest football teams and champions that we have seen and kansas city andy reed and mahomes are
00:50:17have an opportunity to do something none of them ever could where will this team rank if they win
00:50:25in the uh in the history of the game or where do you think this uh this run if they lose it will
00:50:31rank i think this would be the greatest team accomplishment in the history of the nfl by
00:50:36winning three in a row that 1990 niners team got knocked off by the giants in pretty shocking
00:50:43fashion the giants really limited them in that game offensively that's the last time a team has
00:50:48even really been in this position those cowboys early 90s teams getting knocked off by the niners
00:50:54in 1994 that was a team obviously that could have gone conceivably four in a row deon sanders moving
00:51:01back and forth between teams was thought to tip the scales a little bit through all of that drama
00:51:09but it's been a really long time since a team even put themselves in position to do this
00:51:13and it's with a team that as we're sitting here now we're talking that philly might be more talented
00:51:19and have the cheese really even been that impressive at points during the year and then
00:51:24they show up in the biggest game of the year that they played to date and they score the most points
00:51:28that they have all season they drop 32 on the bill so they just have an ability to do this that
00:51:33people i still think doubt to some extent they aren't showing you their best pitches during the
00:51:39regular season they just don't do it yeah and where kansas city has been at the end of the day
00:51:46is in a fifth super bowl in the last six seasons that itself an nfl record more history the chiefs
00:51:53even playing in a third consecutive super bowl the first back-to-back winner ever in nfl history
00:51:59to even reach a third straight but on the other side an eagles team that has also been here twice
00:52:06in the last three years and flew it after a mediocre two and two start the birds have now won
00:52:1215 of their last 16 entering super bowl sunday throughout each and every stage of this season
00:52:19did you expect philadelphia to play in a super bowl
00:52:25that's a fair question i i think there i always for look i had a lot of futures on philly i
00:52:32expected them to win the division expected them to compete well into the postseason but
00:52:39i don't think anybody even the most optimistic eagles fan could not expect saquon barkley to
00:52:44be as dominant as he is now he is going to during this game pass torel davis for the most rushing
00:52:52yards in a season in nfl history regular season and postseason combined and he did it currently
00:52:5862 less carries than td had in 1998 saquon's 30 yards off the pace so he is completely dominant
00:53:06and taking them to a level that people could not have predicted yeah that has been a historic and
00:53:12record-setting season for saquon barkley he is the difference philly hopes it's enough to hoist
00:53:18a lombardi trophy we'll dive even deeper with mike fluid up next we continue to break down super bowl
00:53:2559 nine days away countdown tracks on to new orleans in super bowl sunday mike fluid is here
00:53:34he will be here that is for sure in just a matter of moments we now now talk the total for super
00:53:41ball 59 the over under 48 and a half blue it has worked its way down by a full point from where it
00:53:48was for most of the week before super bowl week how much offense are you expecting in super bowl 59
00:53:58it's a tough one last year we had very similar situation where we had a tight spread it didn't
00:54:04move at all niners and chiefs didn't move at all chiefs a slight favor the whole time
00:54:09that total was locked in at 47 and a half for the entirety of the two weeks of the super bowl
00:54:16came down a point on game day so you got some under money i felt really strongly about a way
00:54:22that the game would go last year i thought a tight chiefs win that ended up happening
00:54:26this year i'm struggling a little bit with how i expect it to play out i have some theories
00:54:33that i've sort of floated to you as can my homes attack the young defensive backs
00:54:38can those receivers be capable of them attacking those defensive backs can the chief's defensive
00:54:46line this is the most important thing for the entire game can that chief's defensive line get
00:54:51stops i don't think philly's going to get cute about it at all they have aj brown and devonta
00:54:56smith if they feel like being explosive but they haven't needed that for weeks seven rushing
00:55:01touchdowns in the nfc championship game tells you everything that you need to know i don't think
00:55:06they're going to be cute about it i think this helps them in a variety of different ways saquon
00:55:10can carry the ball 30 times they can keep my homes off the field so that is really going to be it can
00:55:15they get philly into third and longs these first and second downs for philly are going to be really
00:55:20important if they're ripping off if they're getting into third and threes third and four or
00:55:26less they're going to be in great shape and they're not going to be shy about going on fourth
00:55:31down so that's really the key for me i'm going to lean towards an under but the last time these
00:55:37two teams played in the super bowl obviously we had a very high scoring affair but it's notably
00:55:42different in the way that they operate this offense jalen hurts through for well over 300
00:55:47yards in the last super bowl and his line right now is barely over 200 so we we've it's interesting
00:55:55because we we've seen eight previous vic fangio defenses go up against patrick moms six with
00:56:03denver two with miami and they're oh and eight uh so my homes no matter what fangio has dialed up
00:56:09uh has figured out a way just two picks 10 touchdowns 64 percent completions that's why
00:56:17i'm leaning towards hey they're going to play two high safeties they're not going to let worthy or
00:56:22hollywood brown beat them on an 80 yard touchdown pass so if we're dinkin and dunkin when it comes
00:56:28to my homes props i i mean give me his completions over give me his attempts over it it feels like
00:56:36it's got to be with my homes his arms that wins this game as opposed to jalen hurts i i don't
00:56:43think that's going to be the case i think they're going to live and die by whether or not they can
00:56:46run the ball with barkley so joe i'm totally with you is the first number that i looked at
00:56:53outside of the major numbers was my home's completions and attempts however they will
00:57:00have to win the game for him to get 24 completions or 37 past attempts they'd have to win for that to
00:57:10happen i unless you think philly is going to smash them and then we have a different conversation
00:57:15altogether but i don't personally think that's going to happen one one key too and i i thought
00:57:21this is the biggest failure of the bills philosophically and i don't think philly will
00:57:26make this mistake you know you're in for a dog fight against my homes and the chiefs
00:57:32but you cannot expect to beat them by three points do you know what i mean this has to be
00:57:37an all-out effort to be up two touchdowns as you enter the fourth quarter a quick mahomes
00:57:44stat for you for you guys and how he's operated in the playoffs uh he's trailed in the fourth
00:57:50quarter in nine playoff games in his career he's come back to win six and forced two more to
00:57:56overtime before losing uh the only one that doesn't qualify there is the tampa super bowl where they
00:58:01got blown out in those games he has a 132 passer rating with five touchdown passes and one touchdown
00:58:08run when down one to eight points in the fourth quarter or ot of a playoff game he led scores on
00:58:1413 of 14 drives which means for all the stuff that he's good at if it's late and close
00:58:23you've screwed yourself for the most part you have to put him away early and that's really
00:58:29the fault of the bills they they were playing a close game and they think they strategically
00:58:34played a close game and he got them in the end patrick mahomes and the kansas city chiefs have
00:58:40trailed by double digits in each of these two consecutive super bowl championships against the
00:58:46birds at the half in super bowl 57 last year early in the opening half against the 49ers
00:58:53bluett you have talked about saquon barkley in his instant impact in philadelphia in his first year
00:59:00the props reflect a historic and record-setting season for the biggest game of the year 22 and a
00:59:07half his carries prop 112 in a hook his rushing yards prop for philadelphia to be victorious in
00:59:15super bowl 59 does saquon barkley need to go over these numbers yes so i would actually lean towards
00:59:24the carries first i think uh people were jumping on board and that number started to get really
00:59:30inflated uh leading up to last week it was a blowout he didn't need to carry the ball 25 times
00:59:36if that was a tighter game we would have seen him the other games 31 carries 29 carries all the all
00:59:41the previous few games he's carrying the ball and the games that mattered over 25 times so i would
00:59:47bet carries first on saquon and yes i think he needs to have over 100 rushing yards 113
00:59:55you start to get to a point where like all right that that's a high enough number that i could
00:59:59lean off of it but i do think if they win the game he is over those numbers so let's go one step
01:00:05further saquon goes over those numbers which leads to a philadelphia win who wins super bowl 59 mvp
01:00:13i think he was i think because of everything that has gone into this season and the stats
01:00:18that i talked about before him breaking an all-time record i think he could break the streak
01:00:24of no running backs trell davis the last one to win in 1997 i think saquon would have a real shot
01:00:30here unless as joe said dallas goddard goes off for a hundred and a couple of scores and let's not
01:00:36forget it's a narrative award still even in a super bowl coaching terrace ellen bluett next
01:00:44nine days away from super bowl sunday two teams still in the chase for a lombardi trophy
01:00:5030 others focusing on the future of their franchise this offseason seven needing to
01:00:56hire a new head coach at some point throughout this offseason already six have done so one more
01:01:02job still outstanding that's in new orleans the saints still need to hire a head coach we're
01:01:08looking at you kellen moore when super bowl 59 comes to a close but bluett the six head coaching
01:01:14vacancies that have now been filled on your screen let's rank them who was the best head
01:01:21coaching hire so far in this coaching carousel mike vrabel not even close i think he i mean the
01:01:28pats just set them up for set themselves up for future success he obviously has to get aligned
01:01:34with the player personnel department vrabel has wanted a lot more input than he got in tennessee
01:01:40the the framing of like mike vrabel got fired by tennessee that's only said by someone that's not
01:01:48really paying attention right maybe technically that's what happened but mike vrabel got his way
01:01:53out of tennessee because he didn't want to deal with carthon and the ownership group anymore so
01:01:59he effectively got himself fired he might as well have quit but who walks away from
01:02:04you know an eight-figure salary so mike vrabel slam dunk for the pets
01:02:10and the worst
01:02:14uh well the saints don't have a head coach yet
01:02:17yeah they have a general manager that's been there since 2001 the only general manager that's been in
01:02:23place longer is jerry jones who owns his football team he elevated a guy that didn't get an interview
01:02:28anywhere else so to be honest the saints are in better shape than the jags and the cowboys
01:02:34i don't know that kellen moore is going to be any kind of great head coach but they bided their time
01:02:40and found somebody that they like better than some of the other options that were out there
01:02:44and if it ends up being anthony weaver instead of kellen moore we'll see how it goes the saints have
01:02:49a long way to go they have an expensive roster with a lot of players that are going to need to
01:02:54be released including car and what his future looks like so i think schottenheimer is another
01:03:01guy in a long line of head coaches for jerry that he doesn't really want to have a huge personality
01:03:07or push back or have any input on player personnel so schottenheimer just guides the ship he tells
01:03:14everybody what jerry wants them to be told and they move on i think cowboys are in a rough spot
01:03:20here for years to come not schottenheimer's fault solely they have roster issues as well and they
01:03:25never add anybody in free agency that's worth anything um the jaguars i think are a mess as
01:03:32an organization that's proven to be the case for the last 20 plus years and liam cohen getting
01:03:39denied from hiring some assistance from tampa is indicative of how he and they screwed up the
01:03:46whole process there was no reason to accept the tampa jobs terms until he was officially done
01:03:52with the jaguars so i think liam cohen is in for failure it's not about him but the organization
01:03:59set him up for failure sometimes when you look at bad teams staying bad it's not a head coach
01:04:05it's not a front office it's not an organization or a roster it might be that top guy the owner or
01:04:13ownership group of course anytime the new york jets are making a head coaching hire it is going
01:04:19to bring some notoriety will it what did you make of the decision for the jets to hire aaron glenn
01:04:26and will aaron glenn be able to snap a 14 year playoff drought for gang green at some point
01:04:33in his tenure in florham park yeah well that's key point at some point is probably the key word
01:04:39there ben uh i don't know that he snaps it in year one uh under the helm here but i'm a big fan of
01:04:45aaron glenn he was a great player he's obviously his tenacity and his affection that's felt from
01:04:53the players is palpable so i can appreciate that the jets are in an interesting cycle though where
01:04:59the coaching and gm hires and when i say interesting i mean disastrous where the gm and
01:05:05the coach are not hired in accordance with one another like the bills did with mcdermott and
01:05:11they came in together so you're going to have a gm that comes in he's going to have to get used to
01:05:16the way glenn works and vice versa they have a quarterback question looming there's a lot of
01:05:22talented players on defense but finally with the jets this is a first time head coach that's a
01:05:28defensive player why they're caught in this cycle i'm not sure but the only offensive mind put in
01:05:35air quotes was adam gaze and that worked out well either oh yeah that wasn't exactly successful at
01:05:41the same time but it has been a blueprint for the new york jets we'll see if this one turns out with
01:05:48better results mike blew it as always we appreciate the time thank you for being here on a football
01:05:53friday have a wonderful wonderful weekend plenty more to come in our third and final hour on the
01:06:00early line that's up next we welcome you to our number three our third and final on this friday
01:06:08on the early line on sports grid he is jeremy i am ben stevens in this third and final hour
01:06:15a little bit more on superbowl 59 but we understand it's a lot it's nine days away
01:06:20yes it's the biggest game of each and every football season basically each and every year
01:06:25in the sporting calendar but we'll have all next week to look live in new orleans to have some
01:06:31coverage from our sports grid team out there in the big easy and where the markets start to adjust
01:06:38we'll start with a superbowl 59 and legacy conversation and then joe from there on out
01:06:44basically a basketball friday around the association big one in college hoops tonight
01:06:49the in-state rivalry between indiana and purdue in 49 other states you know what they say and then
01:06:57a huge weekend in college basketball rivalries and returns to set the stage for as well should
01:07:04be a very fun final third hour here on the early line i'm looking forward to it ben should be a
01:07:12absolutely huge and i mean a huge weekend and really for the next 10 days a lot going on in
01:07:19just about every other sport as we get ready for the biggest game uh of the year coming up next
01:07:24sunday and listen it's the final football game of a season maybe your attention will turn even more
01:07:31into the nba and college basketball we are here to get you set but let's see because that is what
01:07:39happens in the most significant stage of a season each and every season in the nfl and around the
01:07:45sporting landscape patrick mahomes is chasing greatest of all time status if he is not already
01:07:52on the precipice of being there a fourth superbowl championship in his first seven years as a starter
01:07:59in kansas city in the national football league man it would be hard to argue that resume will
01:08:06mahomes get there how close is he to that goat designation that's what we had to ask all of you
01:08:13in fade the public
01:08:22a win nine days from now in new orleans would certainly cement the fact of patrick mahomes
01:08:28on track and on pace if he is not already to surpass tom brady one day as the greatest of
01:08:35all time will he do just that at sports grid on twitter will patrick mahomes eventually surpass
01:08:43tom brady as the goat yes or no joke as close as you can really be in a fade the public poll
01:08:51those updated numbers 49.7 percent saying yes 50.3 percent saying no basically a pickem basically a
01:09:02wash is gerrinary fading the public
01:09:08i mean i think that we need some context here uh because mahomes correct me if i'm wrong is 29
01:09:15years old uh so we the argument can be made we haven't even seen the best of patrick mahomes
01:09:25i would say through 29 years of age in the nfl mahomes is already outpaced the goat in tom brady
01:09:35through 29 years old you know don't forget those early years with brady it was all about the
01:09:40defense uh they didn't ask him to do a whole heck of a lot in those early patriot days it was all
01:09:46about the defense there but eventually you know in his 30s that is where we saw vintage tom brady
01:09:54kind of take over so longevity is going to be the biggest reason mahomes doesn't get the goat
01:10:00status fen but i would say as of right now through both those bodies of work especially if he wins
01:10:08this game then he is as far as i'm concerned uh the current goat and outdueled tom brady through
01:10:15his first what uh seven years in the league i don't even think it's remotely close and joe really
01:10:22that's what it comes down to right the longevity of tom brady 23 total seasons in the national
01:10:29football league 22 is the full-time starter either for new england or of course his three seasons in
01:10:38tampa bay he has won seven superbowls no player no coach in the history of the national football
01:10:45has more he has 35 playoff wins the most ever mahomes with the victory in the afc championship
01:10:52game this past sunday moved past joe montana for the second most ever by an individual quarterback
01:10:59but he still is not quite halfway there to tom brady's numbers but again 23 total seasons will
01:11:08patrick mahomes play until he is 45 if the answer to that is yes or maybe even 40 or 42 he is more
01:11:16than likely going to surpass tom brady what if he doesn't what if he only plays until he is 36 for
01:11:22seven or eight more seasons that doesn't seem to be the case we know how patrick mahomes
01:11:27takes care of his body takes care of all that he needs to do and for the most part has avoided
01:11:33drastic injury in his career much like tom brady we shared this stat yesterday 22 full seasons
01:11:40for tom brady as the full-time starter he played the full season 20 of 22 years behold certainly
01:11:47on pace to do much of the same but joe the longevity is a big reason tom brady has seven
01:11:54superbowls he won his fourth at the age of 37 that's the crazy thing brady and the patriots
01:12:03won three lombardi trophies in his first four years as the starter in new england then it took
01:12:09them nine season seasons even to get back atop the mountain and win yet another two superbowl
01:12:16appearances in that nine-year window of course coming up short against eli manning and the new
01:12:21york giants but it took them a while to get back atop the mountain and then of course he leaves new
01:12:26england after six superbowl rings and wins another in tampa the longevity is why tom brady is
01:12:35considered the greatest of all time and it is hard to argue with those pantheon of numbers that he has
01:12:43but behold is certainly on pace to surpass that and might not need 23 nfl seasons to do just that
01:12:53i mean just look at that ben i mean 17 and 3 uh is his playoff record that is an 85 percent win
01:13:02that's the second best when you go back for anybody that has a minimum of 10 starts right
01:13:09in the playoffs uh he is only second to bart star by the way who went nine and one straight up in
01:13:15his playoff career but 17 and three could be 18 and three along with his what fourth superbowl and
01:13:23likely uh what uh mbp award too i mean it's he is on pace we never thought we'd see another tiger
01:13:32woods right then scotty scheffler shows up well we never thought we'd see another uh tom brady
01:13:37and guess what patrick mahomes is here to stay at 29 years old these numbers
01:13:42are unbelievable and unlike brady early in the career who had to rely on it was all about the
01:13:49defense and belichick these superbowl appearances and success is all about patrick mahomes
01:13:56you know what's so funny as well those three playoff losses that patrick mahomes
01:14:01has comparing these greatest of all time tom brady playing 23 years got into the national
01:14:08football league in the early 2000s and we're still talking about guys that have played against each
01:14:16other in these biggest of spots first ever conference championship game that patrick
01:14:21mahomes played in in his first year as a starter in kansas city came up short against who tom brady
01:14:28and the new england patriots and then during the 2020 nfl season these two guys met each other
01:14:36in a superbowl and who came out on top tom brady and the buccaneers so two of those three
01:14:44playoff losses that mahomes has registered already in his illustrious career against
01:14:50tom brady does that head-to-head designation mean anything in career comparisons we shall see
01:14:57patrick mahomes certainly on pace to do that at a prolific winning clip could be four lombardi
01:15:05trophies in his seven years as a starter in the national football league if all goes right for kc
01:15:12nine days from now
