00:00:00Oh boy, did the NFL coaching carousel take a fun new twist and turn yesterday?
00:00:07Mainly in big D. He is Joveneri. I am Ben Stephens
00:00:11It's one of the beautiful things about this time in the NFL calendar 14 teams
00:00:16Reached and earned a playoff spot in the NFL now
00:00:20They have a couple of those teams have been eliminated six
00:00:24In fact, we are on to the division around eight teams left standing in the chase for a Super Bowl
00:00:30Championship the 18 teams that missed out on the postseason are already focusing on the future of their franchise and in Dallas
00:00:37Joe, it really came down to today. It's when Mike McCarthy's current contract
00:00:44Expires and he would be a free agent
00:00:47We knew that was going to be the case
00:00:49but it seemed as though in the last week after the Cowboys denied the Bears permission to interview Mike McCarthy and
00:00:56we had some further reports that maybe just maybe the Dallas locker room and Jerry Jones was starting to believe that Mike McCarthy would
00:01:05Be there for 2025 and beyond and a new deal might be reached
00:01:09Nope, not the case
00:01:11Yesterday the two sides agreeing to part ways is how they are
00:01:17Putting NFL Network's Tom Pellissero reporting that the two top two sides could not agree on a contract length of
00:01:24This new deal regardless for Mike McCarthy
00:01:28He is now a coaching free agent in the Cowboys now need a new head man
00:01:34Joe, what did you make of this process?
00:01:36It may be better yet the timeline that led to the decision ultimately in Dallas that Mike McCarthy would not return as the head coach
00:01:43for next season
00:01:46It's a
00:01:47Dumpster fire. I just don't know how else to put it where yeah
00:01:53Everybody before the season a minute that McCarthy did not have an extension. They didn't work out a new contract
00:02:00He was basically a lame-duck coach and everyone thought yeah, it's just a matter of time
00:02:05Before he's fired here. But the other problem is that they set him up to fail. I mean they spent an NFL Oh
00:02:1320 million in free agency just 20 million since the end of last year
00:02:18So they didn't invest in the roster outside of the draft
00:02:22They didn't invest in Mike McCarthy as the head coach because they let him hang around all all season long
00:02:29Been wondering if they and the players wondering is this guy even still gonna be here?
00:02:34You basically set him up to fail and how it took you that long to figure out that he wasn't the guy or that you
00:02:42Wanted to move on it just it screams that there is something going on
00:02:48in the hierarchy here at Dallas that is not right here and
00:02:53Until if you're not gonna invest from the top down
00:02:56Starting with the head coach and giving him some say and some power
00:03:00I don't know what they who in their right mind wants to take this job right now here Ben
00:03:05The issue is only one person. It's the ego of Jerry Jones. He wants to be in control
00:03:11He wants to be the loudest man in the room
00:03:13Which makes what we're going to say in just a little bit about any coaching
00:03:18Replacements in Dallas all that much more confounding, but Joe the writing was on the wall
00:03:23Not this January not in November not in September not in July not in March
00:03:30last January
00:03:32after another Dallas disaster in the postseason
00:03:35Winning the NFC East for a second time in three years being a touchdown favorite at home
00:03:41against a Packers quarterback in Jordan love who had yet to make his postseason debut and you got beat
00:03:49Bad in your own home building and in response
00:03:53Jerry Jones did not give his head coach a vote of confidence
00:03:56Jerry Jones did not give his head coach a contract extension
00:04:00Jerry Jones said you will be on the warmest of warm seats the NFL or maybe any coaching circle has ever
00:04:07Seen we are not going to renew
00:04:10Your contract which means as Joe alluded to Mike McCarthy was a lame duck this season because Joe we all understood
00:04:18Entering this year that success in Dallas is judged by Super Bowl
00:04:23Championships and the Cowboys have failed to win a Lombardi trophy since their last one in
00:04:281995 in fact including last season 13 playoff trips in the last
00:04:33three decades or so around the National Football League
00:04:36Where the Cowboys have reached the playoffs and not even gone past the division around to play in a conference
00:04:44Championship let alone a Super Bowl
00:04:46So that would be the standard right could Mike McCarthy get Dallas back to the postseason sure
00:04:52But would he lead them to a playoff run if no
00:04:56He would not be the head coach Joe they didn't even get there they were seven and ten
00:05:00Hope and Dak Prescott got injured. Did you see the Cowboys with Dak on the field?
00:05:05It was even worse than with Cooper rush out there
00:05:08So why this took so long to make this ultimate determination is ridiculous
00:05:14But it's what Jerry Jones does he believes?
00:05:17He is the smartest man that has ever walked into every single room more focused on his acting career
00:05:23Then on actually leading the Dallas Cowboys to football success they could offer me five million now
00:05:30I was gonna say they could offer me five million dollars to be the head coach of the Cowboys and I would say yeah
00:05:35Cuz that's awesome. But if I'm a head coach, I'm not trying to go to Dallas right now
00:05:40It is not a system that is set up for success
00:05:44By any means and we saw this what Jerry Jones not just in his head coaching
00:05:51Decision and what happened here with Mike McCarthy?
00:05:54But waiting until the 11th hour to pay Dak Prescott and then making in the highest paid player in NFL history
00:06:01Waiting until the final hour to pay CD lamb making him one of the highest paid players
00:06:06Not at the quarterback position in NFL history
00:06:09There's more pay stubs to be had this offseason looking at you Micah Parsons
00:06:14This Dallas franchise right now is a disaster
00:06:17we heard from Troy Aikman a Super Bowl winning quarterback with the Cowboys saying that he does not consider it a
00:06:25desirable location for any successful head coach Joe this Dallas team in this
00:06:31Organization run by the Jones family is a disaster flat-out
00:06:36Well, it's run by Jerry. It's not necessary because I don't think the kids
00:06:42Are on the same page with dad here either
00:06:45But in tip listen the single
00:06:49most successful
00:06:50Period in Jerry Jones's career owning the Dallas Cowboys was when he stepped aside and let his head coach
00:07:00handle the
00:07:01Roster have a say on what personnel was gonna be that was Jimmy Johnson and ever since then
00:07:08This is what you've gotten from the Dallas Cowboys
00:07:11No doubt about it we'll talk further about the Cowboys situation up next live right here on the other line live right here on the
00:07:19Early line on sports grid six current and coaching vacancies around the National Football League in the latest to be added
00:07:26The Dallas Cowboys parting ways with Mike McCarthy better yet not reaching a new contract McCarthy a free agent
00:07:34We'll talk about his prospects in just a matter of moments
00:07:38But now the focus is on the Dallas Cowboys right as we got to the Monday night football finale of
00:07:45Wildcard weekend between the Rams and the Vikings this report from Fox's Jordan Schultz
00:07:52Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken with Colorado head coach and former Cowboy
00:07:57Of course Deion Sanders about the team's head coaching vacancies and discussions are expected to continue
00:08:04Regarding the possibility of him becoming the next coach in
00:08:08Dallas and then we heard from Deion Sanders who was reached out for comment by ESPN's Adam Schefter
00:08:15Sanders late last night quote to hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful and it is intriguing
00:08:21I love Jerry and believe in Jerry after you hang up and process it and think about it
00:08:27It's intriguing, but I love Boulder and everything
00:08:30there is about our team the coaches our student body and the community and
00:08:36Quote, that's a lot of coach speak for Deion Sanders to say. Yeah, I don't know
00:08:42Sounds kind of fun and that maybe I'm considering it Joe
00:08:46Let's start with the feasible nature of this getting done
00:08:49Would it make side for I would it make sense for either side the Cowboys or coach prime?
00:08:56To have them work out a partnership and deal for Deion Sanders to become the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys
00:09:05So the last time the Cowboys were actually relevant and were considered champions was when Deion Sanders was there
00:09:141995 and I'll reference it again
00:09:16The head coach at that time was Jimmy Johnson and do you know who the most powerful man in that building was?
00:09:23It was Jimmy Johnson, not Jerry Jones
00:09:26And I don't think he wants anything to do with that. I think it's great for Deion because Deion loves
00:09:33The publicity right? He loved he will parlay this all of this talk about him that a Cowboys
00:09:39He'll end up getting a couple of more recruits
00:09:42Listen, nobody knows how to play the game the PR game like Deion does but the reality is Deion has stated many times
00:09:50The only interest in the NFL any NFL job he would have is if he could coach his son's and
00:09:58Shiloh is
00:10:00Getting ready. I think to play the East West game
00:10:02He's a defensive back and we know that Shadour is gonna be taken the Cowboys have the 12th pick
00:10:08They're not gonna get Shadour Sanders. They're not they might get Shiloh, but they're not gonna get your door. I
00:10:15Just don't see it happening
00:10:17I think this is all about the PR and nobody plays it better than Deion Sanders does
00:10:21I think Belichick has a better shot at leaving, North Carolina to take the job then Deion does of leaving, Colorado. I
00:10:29Would agree with that. We got reports early yesterday after we learned Mike McCarthy would not be returning to the Cowboys that bill
00:10:36Belichick would have been interested if he knew that this would have yes come available
00:10:42He still could know that it's available and be in the running Joe
00:10:48I don't know if Deion Sanders is truly intrigued by the Cowboys opening what I will say
00:10:54I don't believe it makes sense for either Deion Sanders is a master motivator
00:10:59Deion Sanders because of his aura is a great recruiter in the way that he is building his program at
00:11:06Colorado listen, I was skeptical that coach prime would figure it out in Boulder
00:11:11He certainly has even I think without his son should or Shiloh or the guy he considers a son in the
00:11:19Heisman winner in Travis Hunter
00:11:21I actually believe that Deion Sanders has staying power at see you or maybe in other spots in college football
00:11:28to build a program his way in see
00:11:32near immediate success before Deion Sanders, Colorado won a single game in
00:11:382023 what nine this past year in
00:11:422024 and earned in Alamo Bowl bid
00:11:45I also do not believe it makes any sense or is even remotely realistic for the Cowboys
00:11:52We just bemoaned how Jerry Jones does not want to let up
00:11:56Control Deion Sanders is a larger personality even than that of Jerry
00:12:02He doesn't want to do this to be a flashy
00:12:05Newsy hire. He doesn't need to do this to bring a spotlight on the star
00:12:10And he certainly does not want to have the second biggest ego
00:12:14deservedly so in the room to me it makes zero sense for the Cowboys both from a football success
00:12:22standpoint or just in the way that Jerry Jones has kind of built his
00:12:27Franchises in the last two decades or so since their last Super Bowl championship in
00:12:331995 more the coaching carousel in our two-star staff
00:12:37We welcome you to our number two live right here on this Tuesday on the early line on
00:12:42Sports grid and all across that spizz grizz network. He is German airy
00:12:46I am Ben Stevens two more hours to go up until 11 a.m
00:12:50Eastern Time and here is the plan for our number two a little bit more in the NFL head coaching carousel only six
00:12:59Vacancies now even with the addition of the Cowboys because of what the Patriots did over the weekend in the signing of Mike Vrabel
00:13:07To be New England's new head coach. We'll hear from the new skipper of the Patriots in just a moment
00:13:13introduced yesterday once again a reintroduction if you will in
00:13:18Foxborough and then from there the updated playoff picture as we get ready for one of the best weekends of football
00:13:25Each and every season the divisional round of the NFL postseason
00:13:30What things look like in the NFC the odds outlook to contend for a conference crown?
00:13:35Same story in the AFC as well. Now that wild-card weekend is in the books
00:13:41We are on around number two German airy in the NFL postseason
00:13:46Yeah, and I spent all day yesterday going over the win totals that were just released for Major League Baseball
00:13:53So yes, man, it's just it's a cycle and it just keeps welcome to our world
00:13:59There's a once one sport closes college football another sport opens up and here we go
00:14:05Yep, absolutely
00:14:08So Joe as we know even in the NFL as eight teams contend for a Super Bowl
00:14:14Championship on the divisional round. We've got a ton of teams already
00:14:18Focusing on the future of their franchises and that includes the New England Patriots who on Sunday morning as we learned
00:14:25Had officially signed Mike Rable. Oh
00:14:28Pretends to be shocked. Everybody knew that was going to be the case in a sham of a search for New England
00:14:34It was always Rable. It was probably Rable back in early December. Here was Mike Rable
00:14:40Reintroduced to everybody up in Foxborough yesterday. Well, I think that the ability to have
00:14:47Open dialogue with with Robert and Jonathan was something that was critical
00:14:53Elliot and his staff obviously
00:14:57What I believe and what everybody else believes is it as a young dynamic quarterback
00:15:04We have some youth on the roster
00:15:05We have some veteran players that have kind of seen both sides of it and understand and that will help me and will help our players
00:15:12You know get get back to that success and understand how hard it is
00:15:18A
00:15:19three-time Super Bowl winning linebacker in New England who coached early in his coaching career under Bill Belichick
00:15:26Before taking the Titans head coaching job back in 2018 six seasons for Mike Rable
00:15:32Joe in Nashville a winning record
00:15:3554 and 45 even after two consecutive losing seasons in
00:15:39Losing seasons in 2022 in 2023. It kind of seems like Robert Kraft is arresting him there
00:15:45I understand he was getting his jacket for the Patriots Hall of Fame put on but even after two losing seasons Joe in
00:15:532022 and 23 Rable still ends his six years in Tennessee
00:15:58nine games above
00:16:00500 with multiple playoff wins to show for it as well with the Titans and things went south
00:16:07quickly in Tennessee
00:16:092021 they were the one seed in the AFC
00:16:12Playoff picture ousted early in that postseason run
00:16:172022 the AFC South
00:16:19Favorites with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry off to a seven and three start then they lost seven consecutive games to end out the season
00:16:27allowing Jacksonville to win the division
00:16:302023 a remotely competitive team, but of course not good enough at 6 and 11
00:16:36But when he was fired by the Titans Joe, even at the end of last year, it was rather stunning around the NFL
00:16:43So he was a hot commodity
00:16:45of course for this coaching search he ends up back in New England a
00:16:49Former Patriot who knows the Patriot way and as you heard Rable discuss right there
00:16:53There's a lot of building blocks in place in Foxboro that are attractive to a new head coach
00:17:00So I I was at that game last October
00:17:04I believe it was or two Octobers ago where of Rabel was on a bye week
00:17:10The Patriots were playing the Buffalo Bills at Foxboro and he showed up for the halftime show Ben and came out
00:17:17Now this is a NFL head coach of a different franchise an organization and I have never heard
00:17:25anything like what the fan base went
00:17:28Absolutely bonkers when he was out on the field and he got inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame
00:17:34they could this was a no-brainer hire for them, but I
00:17:39It's the way they went about it that a lot of people are scratching their head
00:17:42I don't think anybody ever thought this wasn't happening the minute he became a free agent
00:17:48But I'm very shocked that craft went with you know, Gerard Mayo as fast as he did without
00:17:54Really giving Rable a nod, but as it works out you end up getting the guy
00:18:00you probably should have had the entire time and now we'll see what what he does with it a
00:18:07scapegoat kind of in Gerard Mayo to be that buffer if you will between the end of nearly two and a half decades of
00:18:13Bill Belichick to just turn things over to another
00:18:17former Belichick player and assistant and Super Bowl champion linebacker in Mike Vrabel exactly what Gerard Mayo was by the way and now
00:18:25Vrabel steps in there's a lot of people around the NFL angry at New England for a sham of a search
00:18:32bringing in guys like pep Hamilton and Byron left which to almost mock the Rooney rule and
00:18:38Trying to at least have the opportunity for minority head coaches to get a look
00:18:44I think Mike Vrabel had signed the contract behind closed doors Joe back in December
00:18:49I think they knew the Patriots in the craft family knew that was the plan
00:18:54Well before the regular season finale, and I think if you ever heard
00:18:58Transparently from Gerard Mayo in a tell-all he would tell you. Yeah, man. I knew what my future was in Foxboro
00:19:05It's why I went out there and told Joe Milton to go sling it so we could cost the New England franchise an opportunity of
00:19:12Drafting first overall regardless the Patriots have the future of the franchise at the quarterback spot at least for now
00:19:19Yeah in Drake Bay
00:19:20They have over a hundred and thirty million dollars of cap space this year to bolster up a roster
00:19:25That needs many different spots to be filled and they have the fourth overall pick as well again
00:19:32There's a lot to like for this Patriots team trying to now undo two
00:19:37Consecutive years of four win seasons and get back to the standard of success. They well know in
00:19:44New England plenty more to be decided in that coaching carousel six head coaching vacancies
00:19:51around the NFL and oh by the way for Mike McCarthy a lot of
00:19:56Some steam right now if you will that the Chicago Bears
00:20:00Could be interested in McCarthy and now don't need the Cowboys permission to interview
00:20:05Not only a former Cowboys head coach
00:20:08But former Super Bowl winning head coach with the Green Bay Packers a lot of people believing in speculating that McCarthy in the way that he
00:20:16Runs organizations would actually be incredibly beneficial for the young Caleb Williams
00:20:22That's the coaching carousel any other updates that we know will bring you a little bit later on
00:20:28But Joe as we look at the postseason we are on to round number two
00:20:32We are on to the divisional round around the NFL
00:20:37Postseason in the final spot that needed to be booked in the NFL's final eight was last night
00:20:42The Rams winning outlet, of course as a two and a half point dog against, Minnesota
00:20:46The Rams will head to Philadelphia 3 p.m. A 3 p.m
00:20:50Eastern Sunday afternoon that a five and a half point spread in favor of the Birds the first game in the NFC
00:20:58The one seed back in the mix on Saturday night
00:21:01It's the Detroit Lions at home against the commanders the Lions booked as an eight and a half point favorite
00:21:07Largest spread that we will see in the divisional round in Joe really where we are right now with the final four teams on
00:21:14This side of the league the NFC odds are basically what we expected a two-team race in an NFC championship game
00:21:22We all anticipate the Lions in the Eagles in the Motor City next Sunday
00:21:28Yeah, listen, I think we've got some interesting matchups in this one
00:21:34I think we've got some interesting two teams led by defense two teams led by offense
00:21:41This is going to be very interesting coming up this weekend, but
00:21:45No doubt about it Joe. So we'll go through all four divisional round matchups here in this second hour game-by-game
00:21:52to look at the early
00:21:55In this second hour live right here on the early line
00:21:58We go game by game our four divisional round matchups around the National Football League in the round number two
00:22:05Around the NFL postseason again. This is one of the best weekends of football each and every season
00:22:12quality teams in quality games with huge insignificant stakes trying to play in a conference championship
00:22:19When said conference title and of course appear in a Super Bowl Joe, let's start with the game on
00:22:26Sunday that was finalized yesterday
00:22:28It will be in Philadelphia the Eagles now know who they will be hosting
00:22:33That is the LA Rams projected hypothetical odds for this matchup
00:22:38Did see LA as a six and a half point dog in Philadelphia if they were able to outlast
00:22:44Minnesota last night, but the Rams look rather dominant in doing so
00:22:49so now the line is five and a half on the fan dual sports book with a total of
00:22:5443 and a hook and Joe let's start with the total
00:22:58We did not see a ton of points throughout the opening round of the NFL playoffs only one of six games
00:23:05Pushed to the over it was our highest scoring game the first of the weekend in Houston and it featured
00:23:10144
00:23:11Combined points and these two defenses a big reason why the Eagles held the Packers to only 10
00:23:18The Rams held the Vikings to only nine. How important will defense be Sunday afternoon at the link?
00:23:27Well, I think it's also worth noting that the Eagles had the best defense in the NFL in the second half of the season
00:23:35Ben they too started off
00:23:38Very slow under Vic Fangio and you and I talked about it early on and we said listen Vic Fangio
00:23:45There's a learning curve when Vic Fangio takes over defenses. It is not
00:23:50Just a plug-and-play kind of situation there takes guys a little getting used to but as we can see they drafted well
00:23:58Free agency worked out. Well
00:24:01Hassan Reddick really didn't matter all that much and voila the Eagles by the time they made the turns at the second half of the
00:24:08Year, they had the best defense in the NFL and we saw this very young Rams defense
00:24:15Get better and better as the season progressed and it's funny
00:24:19That seems to be a theme here, don't we because we can say the same thing about the Ravens defense
00:24:25The teams that even Washington's defense who was getting torched early on every one of the teams that remain had a
00:24:33Slow start defensively and figured it out and got better as the season progressed
00:24:37I think this one I'm gonna be very interested to see where this line goes Ben. Does this line?
00:24:43Go to six and a half
00:24:45Does it touch seven at any particular point the total kind of still hovering right around here?
00:24:52But a quick look at the weather then for this game. I what is it a heat wave by you guys?
00:24:5843 degrees
00:25:00Is what it's supposed to be at kickoff there in Philly now the Rams going outdoors
00:25:06There are some things to consider there
00:25:08I don't know that the totals gonna move all that much
00:25:12But I'm gonna be very interested to see if this line comes anywhere close to seven when it's all said and done
00:25:18The Rams on a shorter week still a ton to deal with back home in Los Angeles
00:25:23The Eagles very comfortable at home for a second consecutive week and with a full week of rest
00:25:29Having dispatched the Packers on Sunday afternoon
00:25:32Yes, it is cold right now in the Northeast, but supposed to be rather pleasant this weekend at least for mid-january
00:25:39Standards, there is no doubt about that now as for the line itself again the projected hypothetical odds
00:25:45Philly a six and a half point favorite. It's now five and a hook. Could it get back to near a touchdown?
00:25:51I wouldn't be surprised the Eagles Joe both of these teams
00:25:55You could say got off the lackluster starts one worse than the other the Rams started one and five the Eagles two and two
00:26:02Since that even 500 two and two start for Philadelphia. They have won 13 of
00:26:0814 including of course the double-digit win over Green Bay on
00:26:12Sunday Philly is covered ten times in those 14 wins
00:26:16they have gone under nine times in those 14 games as
00:26:21Well, because they have just been so stout on the defensive side of the football
00:26:26but as for the Rams Joe
00:26:28What a season it has been
00:26:30once again a Rams team last year that started three and six one six of their last eight to earn a
00:26:36Playoff spot a Rams team this year that started one and four due to a litany of injuries really all across the board
00:26:43One nine of their next 11 to clinch a divisional title in the NFC West by the time we were done with week
00:26:5117 and since week number five the Rams with Matthew Stafford as their starter have been an underdog
00:26:58Only five times they have won outright
00:27:01Four times in that five-game underdog span the only non cover and non outright win a
00:27:08Sunday night football game and so fi where the Eagles look dominant winning
00:27:1437 to 20 and a much higher scoring affair Joe than we anticipate for Sunday afternoon in the city of brotherly love
00:27:22Yeah
00:27:23The story is gonna be obviously we got to figure out what the weather is going to be Stafford having to travel
00:27:30East on a
00:27:32You know on a short week in the in the cold, that's not exactly been great for him over the years
00:27:40But I will remind everyone he did go to MetLife and beat the gym
00:27:44Oh, no
00:27:45Okay
00:27:45So that really we probably shouldn't take that into consideration Ben because I'm fairly certain we could have done that here
00:27:51But even more importantly, I love the fact that they came out. We'll have to see what's going on with Higbie
00:27:57I understand he stayed the night in the hospital there
00:28:00after the game in Arizona, but for the most part
00:28:03They are healthy heading into Philadelphia, which I think is huge for the Rams
00:28:09And it was a critical game Joe for LA way back in week 14 against Buffalo at the time when the Rams
00:28:15Outlasted the bills in a very offensive affair
00:28:194442 LA winning outright as a slight home dog. It was the highest scoring game of the NFL season
00:28:26It was surpassed just a couple of weeks later
00:28:29But Joe, I bring that up because they allowed Buffalo 42 points. Josh Allen could not be stopped
00:28:34He had three passing touchdowns in three rushing scores
00:28:37You were left thinking ah
00:28:39Does this young LA defense have what it takes even if they are to earn a playoff bid?
00:28:44Well in the three games fully healthy with all their starters in there the rest of the regular season weeks 15 through 17
00:28:53nine points
00:28:54six points
00:28:55nine points and then Joe in a playoff game against the Vikings only
00:29:01allowing nine this Rams defense looks a very very different tune in the last month or
00:29:08So that's the first game in the NFC on Sunday afternoon down Saturday night in Detroit
00:29:15Live right here on the early line our divisional round preview by looking at those early lines on a show that is aptly named
00:29:24Continues and we go to Saturday night in the Motor City the one seed in the NFC for the first time ever in
00:29:32Franchise history the Detroit Lions will welcome in the Washington
00:29:37Commanders Joe last year where the Lions won the NFC North winning a divisional crown for the first time in three decades in the NFL
00:29:44Which meant that Detroit would host a playoff game for the first time in
00:29:5030 years just that in itself was a celebration when the Lions
00:29:55Outlasted the Rams on wild-card weekend winning a playoff game for the first time in 32 years in itself
00:30:02That was a celebration and almost unheard of SOL
00:30:06Same old Lions no more in the Motor City this year though. Things are very different
00:30:13It's not just enough to win a division or even be the one seed or even have a home playoff game
00:30:19Or even celebrate that inside Ford Field as an eight and a half point favorite
00:30:24It's about winning this one the next one in making even more franchise history
00:30:30Playing in a Super Bowl for the first time ever in Lions
00:30:35Organizational history and as you see there
00:30:38It is a hefty spread at least for Detroit to host the NFC championship game a weekend
00:30:44Following eight and a half point number in favor of the Lions against the commanders a total of 55 and
00:30:51A hook the highest total for divisional round weekend Joe. It's north of a touchdown
00:30:57it's eight and a half points live on the fan dual sports book as I
00:31:01See it. Is it too many points though in favor of the Lions against Jaden Daniels in Washington?
00:31:09well
00:31:10The question is bandit is if you're if it's gonna stay at eight and a half
00:31:15And I think this line will continue to rise here a little bit
00:31:20You know, that's a prime teaser opportunity with Detroit here
00:31:23So if you haven't done it and you can still get it
00:31:27Might not be a bad idea to get Detroit under a field goal here. Listen, they're healthier. They're playing at home
00:31:34They have the experience they're taking on a rookie quarterback who listen
00:31:40Congratulations, they they did what they had to do to beat
00:31:43Tampa but I can make the argument that Tampa beat Tampa in that game there
00:31:48So and I give I give Dan Quinn and this defense a lot of credit
00:31:53they were awful to begin with but they figured some things out and
00:31:59Have gotten themselves a playoff win under their belt now, but again now the next step in the next level
00:32:05I just don't see Washington being in that in the same weight class here as Detroit
00:32:12So yeah, I think Detroit certainly can win this game by double digits
00:32:18The only thing you'd have to worry about here would be any sort of backdoor cover been late in the game when it's probably already
00:32:24Wrapped up by Detroit at home. But again a 55 and a half total
00:32:29Yeah, we haven't seen anything even remotely close to that so far here
00:32:34It'll be interesting to see if Washington's offense can go toe-to-toe
00:32:39Against this Detroit defense that's getting healthier and I have my doubts on that
00:32:43Yeah, listen, I would agree Joe with that statement that you just said
00:32:4855 and a half feels a little bit high as it was for that regular season finale in the Motor City that featured a total
00:32:55Of 56 and a half the last time we saw the Lions host the Vikings
00:32:59It was one of the highest totals we had seen in the NFL since 2019
00:33:04And of course it stayed well under a Detroit defense that is getting healthier a Detroit defense
00:33:10That has had a full week off and we know this Lions team has desperately
00:33:16Needed it might we see David Montgomery return. I'm not sure it really matters from your games in the three games without
00:33:22Sonic because he is knuckles was darn darn good
00:33:27The commanders Joe since week four when the odds started to catch up that maybe Washington was not this pesky underdog
00:33:34But a true playoff contender has been an underdog
00:33:37Five times they have won outright twice. They have not covered the number two times as
00:33:43well against the Ravens twice against the Eagles and of course on Sunday night in
00:33:49Tampa the Lions have been a touchdown
00:33:51Favorite or greater six times this year five and one straight up a weird week two loss to Tampa in
00:33:58Four and two against the spread now
00:34:02It's a lot to lay in a playoff game
00:34:04But I am certainly trusting Detroit to at least control how Saturday night's game plays out in the Motor City
00:34:12Yeah, and it's kind of hard not to
00:34:15because again
00:34:16Experience at home in an environment in which they have been very successful over the last couple of seasons
00:34:23They're gonna have their work cut out for a, Washington
00:34:2611 and 5 against the spread that's Detroit as a favorite this year 12 and 5 ATS
00:34:33best cover team in the NFL out of the
00:34:37Live right here on the early line a show that lives up to its billing
00:34:41Here in this second hour taking the early line approach to everything that you will see
00:34:47Indivisional round weekend in the National Football League
00:34:50Postseason one of the best weekends of football each and every year around the NFL
00:34:56We just previewed our two matchups in the divisional round in the NFC the Lions the largest favorite of the weekend
00:35:02Eight and a half point spread against the commanders
00:35:05Philadelphia in the first game of two on Sunday a five and a half point favorite against the Rams
00:35:11Joe entering last night at the conclusion of our first game on Sunday
00:35:16We knew what was at stake in the AFC
00:35:19We knew what was still out there in that conference in the final four teams that will play for a conference crown on
00:35:26this side of
00:35:28The league the Chiefs are the one seed in AFC title runs through arrowhead
00:35:33Once again in the first game of divisional round weekend 4 30 p.m. Eastern Time on
00:35:39Saturday afternoon and it ends in the divisional round with the marquee and monumental matchup that
00:35:46everybody was hoping for for two fan bases that at this current moment are not that fond of one another because of the
00:35:55Conversations that have continued throughout this season. Who's the real NFL MVP?
00:36:00Is it Lamar Jackson looking for a second in a row in three?
00:36:04It is six years as a starter around the National Football League or is it Josh Allen for the first time Joe before
00:36:12We dive into the individual division around matchups. Let's start with the odds
00:36:18It is a very close game as we expect Sunday evening in Western, New York
00:36:23And thus you see only 30 cents of separation between those two teams
00:36:28Baltimore and Buffalo to win the AFC championship plus 210 for the flock plus
00:36:34240 for the Bills the Texans have a long price
00:36:38They're over a touchdown underdog in arrowhead against Kansas City 16 to 1 and Joe the Chiefs
00:36:45Remain the favorites as they enter the playoff mix on Saturday afternoon at plus
00:36:51135 in Kansas City
00:36:53Holds home field advantage, of course throughout hoping to get back to a Super Bowl
00:36:59Hoping to make history in a hunt for that third
00:37:03Consecutive Lombardi trophy. How do you make sense of those AFC championship odds entering divisional weekend?
00:37:11Why I mean it makes sense, right?
00:37:14because the Chiefs with that number one seed really
00:37:17Whether it had been the Chargers or here with the Texans they their path to an AFC championship and maybe another
00:37:25Super Bowl was going to be the easier of the two because we both
00:37:30Basically knew the rematch between the Ravens and the Bills was coming. So having said that
00:37:36You know Buffalo Bills at a plus 240 price right now to win the championship
00:37:43the question to me is
00:37:46Do we really think by the time the Ravens and the Bills are done playing no matter
00:37:51Who wins is there going to be?
00:37:54enough in the tank to be able to go to arrowhead and beat the Chiefs because I
00:37:59Think the Ravens of Bills is going to be an absolute war
00:38:03Yeah, I almost feel like now is the time to bet the Chiefs because if they dismantle the Texans and
00:38:10We get the kind of physical game where you think we're gonna get with the Ravens and Bills
00:38:14Man who knows what it's going
00:38:16I wouldn't be shocked if Kansas City starts to come close to even money or some point then
00:38:22Depending on what happens in that game. So now would be the time to look at Kansas City if if you hadn't bet them already
00:38:30Because to me everything else between the Ravens and the Bills is a coin flip
00:38:35Yeah, and again, I kind of feel the way I feel about these AFC championship odds
00:38:40Now that I did even before the postseason started you are choosing between
00:38:46Baltimore and Buffalo for who you believe presents the best test to Kansas City in arrowhead trying to find that value
00:38:54I'm still not sure there is value because the marquee matchup on Sunday in Orchard Park is a toss-up
00:39:00It is a pick'em
00:39:01So again, you are going to have a team sure as probably less than a field goal underdog in Kansas City
00:39:08But against a Chiefs team that will have an additional day of rest and still have home field advantage for two
00:39:16organizations and two quarterbacks trying to change a narrative and for a Chiefs team that is only
00:39:23Furthered its narrative and its playoff pedigree
00:39:26This is year number seven with Patrick Mahomes is the Chiefs starting quarterback in the previous six
00:39:33They have played in an AFC championship game all six years before last year in the prior five seasons
00:39:40They had hosted said AFC championship game. They have played in four Super Bowls
00:39:46They have won three Lombardi trophies including the last two
00:39:50consecutively Joe eight previous back-to-back Super Bowl champions in the history of the NFL only
00:39:57Three have even reached a conference championship game
00:40:01None of the prior eight have even played in a Super Bowl for a third
00:40:07Consecutive year let alone win a Lombardi trophy for a third
00:40:12Consecutive season will history continue its trend keeping the Chiefs even from an AFC championship game
00:40:19Yeah, I'm not so sure. I think Casey is there
00:40:22Will it keep Kansas City from playing in New Orleans for a third consecutive Lombardi trophy?
00:40:28Yeah, I'm still not so sure might it keep the Chiefs from winning a third consecutive Super Bowl?
00:40:35Perhaps but at this moment
00:40:37I am really not sure there is great value to bet in the AFC as of right now even
00:40:45understanding that whether it's Baltimore or Buffalo whoever plays Kansas City unless the Texans can pull off a
00:40:52Monumental upset in Arrowhead is going to be less than a field goal underdog
00:40:57But still I'm not thinking you're getting good rollover value right now based on what a projected money line price would be
00:41:03for said AFC championship game in Casey
00:41:07Yeah, no, I mean you missed the window Ben if you were gonna bet anybody outside of Kansas City
00:41:12You needed to do it before the games
00:41:15This past weekend here where we you know, you got much better value at that point because
00:41:22it's a pick'em between what the
00:41:25Bills and the Ravens here for the most part. It's gonna fluctuate between minus one and a pick'em, right?
00:41:31Well, it's to me. It's gonna be this in no matter who wins that game if they're going to Arrowhead
00:41:37We're probably looking at the same thing then it's gonna be there's not going to be a lot of a lot of value to be
00:41:44Rolling anything over one way or the other there
00:41:47So this is probably as good as you're going to get just you got to figure out who do you like more?
00:41:54They're gonna Arrowhead. Is it the bills at home to hold serve or do the Ravens go to an O against Buffalo this year?
00:42:02Yeah, which is going to be an incredibly interesting conversation that Joe
00:42:07let's just dive right in because it is worth the final two minutes of this segment and all eight minutes of
00:42:14Next segment it is the marquee matchup our fourth and final of the divisional round in Western, New York
00:42:20the Buffalo Bills in the Baltimore Ravens the two seed in the bills the three seed in the Ravens a game that we dreamed of
00:42:28And now we get on Sunday
00:42:31Evening a one and a half point spread in favor of the flock there
00:42:35You see 18 cents of difference in the money line
00:42:39There's only 14 currently on the fan duel sports book minus 116 that money line number on the Ravens minus
00:42:46102 on the other side for Buffalo in a total north of 50 at
00:42:5251 and a hook again plenty of time on the other side of the break to dive even deeper
00:42:57But Joe, let's start with this. Where do you begin your breakdown for this wonderful division around matchup between the Ravens and the bills?
00:43:05Well, I would caution folks to take whatever it is that you think you learned from week four when
00:43:14Baltimore took it to Buffalo in Baltimore throw it out the window because these two teams are
00:43:21Totally different right now than they were
00:43:24Way back there in week four so I would go whatever you think you learned from both of those teams
00:43:30Then I would not let it influence my decision on who's gonna win this game
00:43:35Because both teams especially
00:43:37Defensively are much different looking than they were in week four
00:43:42Much different looking Baltimore better at limiting points
00:43:46Buffalo understands how critical it is going to be to try to probably not stop
00:43:52But slow down the rustic attack of the Ravens
00:43:56The finale of division around weekend for what will be the final spot in the AFC
00:44:02Championship game between Baltimore and Buffalo in
00:44:05Orchard Park the Ravens and ever so slight favorite a point and a half in the spread minus
00:44:11116 on the money line 14 cents of distinction
00:44:15Against the Buffalo Bills with a total of 51 and a hook Joe. You said it right before the break
00:44:21You would caution everybody to look back at week number four
00:44:25Final game of the opening month of this season for both teams and think that will tell a tale for Sunday evening
00:44:32Baltimore won big in the charm City 35 to 10 easily covering as a two and a half
00:44:39point favorite in that game the Ravens did what they did on
00:44:44Saturday night to the Steelers rushing for nearly 300 yards
00:44:49271 to be exact eight yards per pop against this Buffalo defense Derek Henry had a hundred and ninety nine yards and a
00:44:56Touchdown Lamar Jackson only had a hundred and fifty six passing yards, but two scores
00:45:0254 yards on the ground and a touchdown meanwhile for the Bills
00:45:06They only had 81 rushing yards as a team, but that was way back at the end of September
00:45:13We are nearing the end of January and the divisional round
00:45:17So what will be different Joe this time around on Sunday evening in Orchard Park?
00:45:23Well, one of the biggest things is a venue change
00:45:26We're not in Baltimore anymore
00:45:29And we don't necessarily know what the weather is gonna be like or even pretend to be like come January
00:45:3619th, you know this time of year
00:45:38It's it could be you know, nine feet of snow then by the time we get to kick off there
00:45:44There could be a ton of wind so I would I'd caution
00:45:47Folks here that what we got in week four in Baltimore
00:45:52We also got against a Bill's defense. That was really banged up early on in the year
00:45:58Of course their captain Matt Milano there was not available to them. He was still working
00:46:04His way back there. We weren't sure von Miller was going to be
00:46:09In good enough shape to be able to start making a difference for this Buffalo team and well
00:46:15They they have figured some things out
00:46:18Defensively to say the least there and we just saw that on display
00:46:22against Denver
00:46:23I do think this is going to have a different feel and listen if Baltimore can go into Orchard Park
00:46:31And run for you know, what over close to 300 yards up and like they did the first go-around
00:46:39I mean if Derek Henry
00:46:41runs for 200 yards
00:46:44Baltimore's winning the game, but something tells me
00:46:48That I don't think that is going to happen in this one
00:46:52And I also don't think Josh Allen who was held to 180 yards
00:46:5716 of 29 passing and just 81 yards on 23 carries the bills rushed
00:47:04I think all of that throw it out the window
00:47:06I do think this is going to be a much more balanced game for both these teams
00:47:11I ultimately think it's going to come down to who has the ball last
00:47:15And we have seen both of these teams do some good things against teams not named, Kansas City in this spot
00:47:22So ultimately I think Ben who's got that ball last with an opportunity to get in field goal range and which kicker
00:47:29Do we trust more?
00:47:32Mmm both have had their struggles Tyler Bass last year in the postseason
00:47:37Justin Tucker
00:47:38It wasn't a story until it was certainly this year throughout the entirety of the regular season if the game lives up to what?
00:47:46The odds anticipate we are in for an all-timer an instant classic
00:47:51We're talking a couple of cents of difference on the money line a toss-up in what we expect to be a high-scoring game
00:47:57Jody your question about weather in Western, New York on Sunday
00:48:01It's not overly terrible by their standards in mid to late January
00:48:07But cold a low of 9 degrees with winds 10 to 15 miles per hour
00:48:13It's probably going to feel a little bit colder than that of 9 as well some snow earlier in the week
00:48:19Maybe a dusting throughout the weekend, but nothing overwhelming by any means there in Buffalo as we look at
00:48:27This game there are so many storylines to be had for both franchises for both quarterbacks Lamar Jackson
00:48:34Trying to turn around the narrative of a lack of playoff success now three and four
00:48:40But he has never played in a Super Bowl
00:48:43Neither has Josh Allen the Bills have won the AFC East now for a fifth consecutive season
00:48:48They have won their first playoff game during wildcard weekend all five years
00:48:54But in the last three seasons, they've been ousted in the division around three of the previous four years
00:49:00They've been ousted by the Chiefs
00:49:02Will they have an opportunity to slay their playoff dragon a week following in a potential AFC?
00:49:09Championship matchup and then there is the individual quarterback comparison not just for Sunday
00:49:16But for this season Joe and who was going to win NFL MVP
00:49:20Josh Allen closed as a minus-money favorite at the end of the regular season and then late last week
00:49:26Lamar Jackson was named first team AP all pro
00:49:30Quarterback very rarely. Have we seen a guy finish second team all pro and when the MVP
00:49:38Hardware, there is all of that Joe and to dueling fan bases that have tried to bolster up a campaign for their respective
00:49:45Signal caller now facing off for a spot in a conference championship game on Sunday again
00:49:51Game is good as you could hope for
00:49:55Storylines in narrative as good as you could hope for as well
00:49:59And it let's not also
00:50:02ignore the fact that
00:50:04from a coaching perspective here
00:50:07The this game could be detrimental to the future of the Buffalo head coach as opposed to the Baltimore
00:50:15Ravens head coach if Baltimore don't win this game
00:50:17I don't think we're gonna be talking about removing Harbaugh, but I can promise you if if they fall short here Buffalo
00:50:24The pitchforks will be out then in big big time fashion
00:50:30Yeah, there's no doubt about it, right?
00:50:31There will be some conversation about the ceiling elevated in Western New York by Sean McDermott
00:50:37Perhaps maybe with Lamar Jackson and John Harbaugh
00:50:40Is going to get a little bit of a storm per se come Monday
00:50:45Here are the props for the quarterbacks Lamar Jackson clean and efficient against Pittsburgh had I think?
00:50:5281 yards on the ground something ridiculous on Saturday night
00:50:56Josh Allen did a little bit of everything more than 270 yards to passing touchdowns
00:51:01For the bills and nearly 50 on the ground James Cook has stepped up his game as well
00:51:07Although the King awaits on the other side that is Derrick Henry the first game of the divisional round
00:51:13That would be in Arrowhead on Saturday afternoon
00:51:18The first game of four for the divisional round of the 2024 National Football League postseason
00:51:24It's the Chiefs and the Texans on Saturday afternoon in Arrowhead a 430 p.m
00:51:29Eastern Time kick something Houston is all too familiar with
00:51:34Inside Arrowhead Stadium a playoff atmosphere that Kansas City well
00:51:39understands after a week off
00:51:42Earning the one seat and a by the Chiefs are greater than a touchdown favorite at home
00:51:48Against the Houston Texans with the lowest total throughout the entirety of this second round of the postseason
00:51:54only at 41 and
00:51:56a half Joe the Texans as they did a season ago went outright as a two-and-a-half point home
00:52:01Underdog throughout wild-card weekend to earn this spot in the AFC
00:52:06Divisional round I think the natural question is can the Texans keep this game within margin?
00:52:13And if so, is there a realistic path that Houston might be able to play spoiler and upset the two-time reigning Super Bowl champs?
00:52:23Yeah, no, I
00:52:25Just
00:52:26Houston to me even in a what 20-point win against the Chargers
00:52:32At some point Stroud in the offense if you believe they're gonna have any shot at this
00:52:38You have to believe that offensively they can finally figure it out
00:52:43And be able to run the ball be able to protect Stroud
00:52:46And be able to take some shots down the field. And yes, they have been decimated that receiving core by injuries
00:52:54But now they've become so reliant on Nico Collins, it's ridiculous and any quality defense
00:53:01Is is they're gonna have their hands full and there is no better one
00:53:06Than coming into this game at Arrowhead with Kansas City and listen, you're not turning Patrick Mahomes over four times
00:53:13He is not Justin Herbert here
00:53:16This is a team that this isn't even one of the best chiefs teams that we've seen and yet
00:53:21They're still 15 and 2 either way here Ben and that tells you everything you need to know plus there are two home wins away
00:53:28From a shot at NFL history and a possible third
00:53:33Championship in a row extra time to prepare for Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes
00:53:39And oh, yeah, they they finally look like, you know
00:53:43They've been able to figure out how to use Xavier worthy how to use Isaiah Pacheco D
00:53:48Andre Hopkins the list goes on
00:53:51Yeah, this is what the Chiefs is all about. This would be like betting against Tom Brady
00:53:57In this spot here for over a decade
00:54:00How well did that work out for people waiting for Brady to fail?
00:54:03It ain't happening with my homes against this Houston team either great defense
00:54:08But the defense is not going to be enough to get you to go to Arrowhead and be Patrick Mahomes
00:54:14I think this is probably the blowout of the weekend
00:54:17Listen the Texans have been great defensively, but as Joe mentioned so too has Kansas City
00:54:24I think one of the more underrated storylines
00:54:26Entering the regular season finale weekend because we knew the Chiefs were playing all of the reserves in Denver
00:54:32Jalen Watson a guy injured for most of this year for the Chiefs back in the secondary when Watson is healthy
00:54:39Alongside Trent McDuffie who was an all-pro quarterback once again this year one of the more lethal lethal duos
00:54:47At the cornerback spots in the NFL so the Chiefs getting healthier there
00:54:52We know the Chiefs are healthier offensively
00:54:54Isaiah Pacheco back Hollywood Brown is back Xavier Worthy is more involved and they had a week
00:55:01To prepare and figure all of this out and we know how good Andy Reid is off a buy regular season
00:55:08or
00:55:09Postseason Joe the Chiefs have the benefit of the doubt. They have the playoff pedigree
00:55:14We mentioned the history that Kansas City is seeking with two wins
00:55:18Kansas City would make history even if they come up short in a Super Bowl becoming the only
00:55:24Two-time reigning Super Bowl champ to even play in a third Super Bowl game
00:55:30Now as for the spread that's where this game could be interesting. Do we believe the Texans can win outright?
00:55:37I'm, not sure you're going to find many people that believe Houston actually has that opportunity
00:55:42Do we believe Houston can keep this game within margin perhaps?
00:55:45With CJ Stroud as the starter since the beginning of his rookie season the Texans including a wild card
00:55:52Outright underdog win against the Chargers are 11 and 7 against the spread as an underdog eight outright wins
00:56:00The Chiefs we know the margins of which they have skirted by this year
00:56:04They are 0 and 5
00:56:06Against the spread juvenile as more than a touchdown favorite this year more than a touchdown
00:56:14Favorite they have not covered a number and for a Chiefs team
00:56:18That has only played seven games out of 17 in total to the over this season
00:56:23Three of their seven did happen in games where Casey was laying more than seven points
00:56:30What a divisional round that is going to be and plenty more previews throughout this week on sports grid hour three though
00:56:37Welcome to our number three our third and final live right here on the early line on sports grid
00:56:43He is joe. I am ben in this third hour a ton
00:56:48of conversation around both the association
00:56:51And college basketball on what is going to be?
00:56:54A wonderful tuesday night in the sport this year in college hoops
00:56:59It feels like each and every tuesday marquee matchups dot the docket certainly in the sec
00:57:05That is what happens when you basically have half of the ap top 25
00:57:09In one league we will also live up to the billing of the early line as we did in hour two
00:57:16By looking at the division around matchups here in hour three
00:57:19By taking that early look now less than a week away from a college football playoff national championship game next monday night
00:57:27in atlanta, georgia inside mercedes-benz stadium between ohio state and
00:57:32Notre dame and some more college football, but perhaps nfl conversations
00:57:37Around a coaching carousel that now will feature the dallas cowboys plenty to get to here joe in this third hour
00:57:45Yeah, and a lot of uh, a lot of very intriguing storylines, uh still with the nfl heading into the divisional round but
00:57:54uh
00:57:54The it just keeps getting real interesting with the nfl franchises that need head coaches
00:58:01And maybe a gm or two here ben. I think uh, I think the next couple of weeks
00:58:06Going to be a whole lot of fun for some fan bases
00:58:10So early yesterday morning
00:58:11We had six head coaching vacancies now make that five after the full introduction
00:58:16Of mike vrabel as new england's new head coach that moved by the patriots the first to fill a vacancy
00:58:23It's basically what we expected and then
00:58:26We got back up to six vacancies in terms of nfl head coaching jobs
00:58:32As the cowboys and mike mccarthy could not come to terms on a new deal. They part ways boom
00:58:39the dallas cowboys now need a new head coach for
00:58:432025 who would be at kellen moore former offensive coordinator in big d former cowboys backup quarterback now a successful oc
00:58:51In philadelphia, who would jerry jones trust what?
00:58:55Late last night reports that deon sanders former cowboy has been reached out to by jerry jones
00:59:03And might both sides have mutual interest
00:59:07Well, does it make sense and might it actually happen that was the question for all of you in fade the public
00:59:22At sports grid on twitter does deon sanders make sense as the cowboys next head coach your four options
00:59:30Yes for both parties. No, not for dallas. No not for deon. No
00:59:36It makes zero sense for either party involved again at sports grid on twitter
00:59:42Joe a pretty close toss-up here between our two options at top and bottom. Yes, it would make sense for both
00:59:49No, it would not make sense for either side which way germinary. Did you vote in the fade the public poll?
00:59:56Uh, yeah, I don't think it makes sense for either side in any way shape or form here
01:00:03I I think if deon
01:00:04And he has said it was ever going to go to the nfl and you brought it up earlier ben
01:00:10we're talking about a guy that
01:00:12Yeah needs to be the story needs to be in control
01:00:16Uh needs to be the king and one place he will always be able to do that ben is in the college ranks
01:00:22Uh, he will never do that in the nfl
01:00:26And the only way I ever see him and he has said
01:00:29That he makes the jump to the nfl if he can coach his kids
01:00:33He's got a quarterback and he's got a defensive back that are going to enter the draft this year
01:00:39The cowboys pick 12th. I don't think they're going to be in a position to take either of his uh of his kids
01:00:46so I don't think it makes any sense for him to go to a place in which
01:00:50You have a owner with the biggest ego who will not relinquish anything and just screwed up
01:00:56Uh the entire new coaching search by waiting to eventually let mike mccarthy walk
01:01:03Yes, when he was in fact a lame duck head coach with an expiring contract that is officially over today
01:01:11Mike mccarthy a free agent now and maybe a hot commodity on the market. I'm sure he's actually pleasantly
01:01:19Happy or pleased I guess I would just use the term that he is no longer under the watchful eye of jerry
01:01:25Joan, joe joe
01:01:26I voted for neither it would make sense for neither of these two sides in terms of a potential
01:01:34Partnership much like you because you have two guys that want to have the biggest ego
01:01:39In the room that often deserve at least in my estimation
01:01:44To have that biggest ego to have all of the eyeballs to have all of the notoriety
01:01:49and attention jerry jones
01:01:52And deon sanders those two things do not often coexist
01:01:57Unless one steps back and I don't believe that prime is going to allow jerry jones to say deon
01:02:03We want this guy as your left tackle. We are only going to spend this amount on linebackers
01:02:08I don't think that's how deon sanders would build his organization
01:02:12Or program certainly not how he has done things kind of out on the upper threshold of how things have been done
01:02:19In a little bit of a cutting edge way if you will in college football
01:02:24I don't think he wants to give up organizational control at all
01:02:28And I don't think jerry jones is going to do what he did in the late 80s and early 90s when either it was
01:02:35Uh, why am I blanking on his name? Who's the guy on the pregame show?
01:02:39Jerry not so help me try a cowboys head coach
01:02:44No, no, no, no, no, no
01:02:48Jimmy johnson, thank you. Oh, there you go. Jerry johnson that didn't work out
01:02:53Jimmy johnson or even barry switzer who was there the last time they won a laurie trophy jerry jones's persona now
01:03:01Far too large in 2024 as it was compared to 1994
01:03:061994 or even 1995. I don't think this makes sense
01:03:11for either
01:03:13Party, I do not believe that the dallas job is a desirable one because of all of the control that jerry jones
01:03:20Now must have in terms of this organization. I don't think it is good for deon sanders
01:03:26I'm, not sure he would see great success in dallas
01:03:30I think he is building something successful at colorado and should remain in boulder for the time
01:03:37Being I do believe the cowboys will ultimately end up hiring
01:03:42Somebody akin to a kellen moore who has familiarity with how this franchise is run at the star
01:03:48And I think would be somewhat of a yes man in his first head coaching job in terms of what jerry jones
01:03:55Wants to do that's how I see the cowboys head coaching search play out. I would be surprised truthfully
01:04:02I'm, not surprised that it's a headline
01:04:04I'm, not surprised we're talking about it that deon sanders has been contacted by his former boss in jerry jones
01:04:11I would be genuinely surprised if deon sanders actually ends up becoming the cowboys next head coach
01:04:20I'd be shocked. Uh, I really would be shocked although I guess at this point
01:04:25We should be shocked by nothing. Uh that centers around this dallas cowboys organization. It also wouldn't shock me
01:04:32Uh, if mike mccarthy goes to the jets and uh reunites with aaron rogers, i'll just throw it out
01:04:39I'll just throw it out. Yeah
01:04:41I was I don't know if they like each other all that much at least based
01:04:45From their ending time in green bay. I also don't know if aaron rogers is going to be in new york
01:04:51I think it's more likely mike mccarthy is there with the jets in 2025
01:04:55There's been a lot of speculation that mike mccarthy is actually a desirable head coach
01:05:00He's been great offensively. He understands how to build up young quarterbacks that maybe he would make some sense in chicago
01:05:07The bears did seek permission to interview him before his contract is now through
01:05:11In dallas, I think it makes some sense
01:05:15We'll see how it plays out in the windy city and what is next for mike mccarthy again
01:05:21Before mike mccarthy and probably after mike mccarthy the cowboys still have the same question to answer sure regular season success
01:05:30But not superbowl success not playoff success
01:05:34Mike mccarthy was the sixth head coach since barry switzer won dallas its final lombardi trophy back in
01:05:411995 in all six of those head coaches unable to get back to a superbowl heck even in nfc
01:05:49championship game
