00:13I work at Midwest Composites as a Composites Engineer.
00:16I am an Engineering Juris Doctor.
00:22Although the use of fiberglass and carbon is good in terms of strength and so on,
00:28it gives a bad effect in terms of carbon emission and greenhouse gas.
00:34Our innovation is that we take fiber from natural sources
00:38such as palm trees, coconut trees.
00:42Palm trees are taken by farmers,
00:45then processed into yarn,
00:47then we weave it into a fabric.
00:51We produce a composite,
00:52and finally we make it as a final product
00:55for aerospace and automotives.
01:00So by using these products,
01:03we contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and greenhouse gas.
01:08We have managed to reduce greenhouse gas and carbon emissions by 70%.
01:14The quality is on par with what is on the market.

01:24There are many experts, but the question is,
01:26how do they come up with this biocomposite concept
01:30based on innovation?
01:31Why don't we find out?
01:32Let's go.
01:35Ladies and gentlemen,
01:37did you know that our country releases 182 million metric tons of biomass waste every year
01:47that is not fully used?
01:50To solve this problem,
01:52we have collaborated with researchers from UITM
01:57by focusing on agricultural resources such as
02:02hemp, flax, jute, and hemp.
02:05We have managed to produce a product of technical textile innovation.
02:11Imagine,
02:12your fabric can be processed into a biocomposite.
02:17Our biocomposite products are as strong as stainless steel.
02:23In fact, they can reduce the weight compared to stainless steel.
02:29At present, the aerospace industry uses more than 50% of their building materials.
02:38Meanwhile, the automotive and public transport industry only uses 6%.
02:45This plant, as it grows, it stores carbon and then it gives out oxygen.
02:50So when we convert this plant into a biocomposite,
02:54we store the carbon in this till the end of its life.
02:58Biocomposites can improve your fuel efficiency.
03:01The lighter your vehicle, the lesser energy it requires for it to move.
03:05Secondly, you can improve the assembly efficiency
03:08because composites can be moulded into various complex shapes and sizes.
03:13Your lifetime maintenance cost of your vehicle will be decreased
03:16because composites are weather and corrosion resistant.
03:20And most importantly,
03:21biocomposites can reduce your greenhouse gas emissions
03:25and your carbon footprint by 75%.
03:29We want to show how strong our products are,
03:33not just empty talks.
03:36So I want to invite Uncle.

04:04What's the price differential between your product and what is used by the industry?
04:12How to get the industry to use it despite the cost differential?
04:19Over the last eight years of us playing with the manufacturing process,
04:24we have managed to reduce the cost needed to run those processes repeatedly.
04:28So this is our secret sauce of how we are going to reduce the price.
04:32There is actually a shift in customer mindset about the need of sustainability
04:37and the need of renewable materials.
04:40Those are who we are targeting for and we want to get them on board.
04:44From an innovation perspective, the idea is not original.
04:48It's just that they are all competing to bring the cost down.
04:53Not so vibrant in Malaysia market.
