Plant Protein and Heart Disease: What the Research Says.
Eating more plant-based protein and less animal protein can significantly lower your risk of heart disease. Research published in *The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition* found that people who ate the highest plant-to-animal protein ratio had a 19% lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and a 27% lower risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) compared to those with the lowest ratio. While the average American diet has a 1:3 plant-to-animal protein ratio, a shift to at least 1:2 can help prevent CVD, and a 1:1.3 or higher ratio may further reduce CHD risk.
